Rumors Galore!! Michael Bay May Actually Use Mark Wahlberg For TRANSFORMERS 4?!
The Kidd here...
Well, we already know Shia LaBeouf isn't returning for the continuation of the TRANSFORMERS franchise, nor are a ton of familiar robots in disguise (because only new characters sell new toys), but did anyone really expect Mark Wahlberg to be at the center of the human portion of TRANSFORMERS 4 until now?
Apparently rumors have been picking up fairly recently that Wahlberg would be the star of the sequel, based entirely on the fact that Wahlberg and director Michael Bay worked together on PAIN & GAIN, and, as you know, when an actor and a director work together once, they never want to work on other projects moving forward with anyone else ever again (Cue the sarcasm).
In fact, these rumors built up so greatly that Michael Bay took time out of his day of doing whatever the hell Michael Bay does to debunk the rumors and let people know that there's no Mark Wahlberg involvement in TRANSFORMERS 4.
Or is there?
According to Bay's latest post on his own blog, the rumors got him to thinking, and now maybe there is some room for Marky Mark in the middle of a war between Autobots and Decepticons.
"I squashed a rumor that was on the internet last week. It was about Mark Walhberg. Mark was rumored to be staring in Transformers 4. We are working on another movie together, not T4. I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain and Gain, and he gave such a great performance – well let’s say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer – so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter."
Do I think it's cool that the talk of fans may have gotten them something they wanted in a movie? Absolutely. Am I a little sad that we wasted such an opportunity to have one of our wishes granted on TRANSFORMERS 4? You bet.
I guess we'll have to see how things come together on this, but I'm not sure a Mark Wahlberg is needed for a TRANSFORMERS movie. After all, why can't we just have a TRANSFORMERS flick populated entirely by Transformers?
By the way, what do you think Michael Bay does on a daily basis? My money is on dreams of explosions.

How about letting the stars of the Transformers movie be... well, maybe the Transformers?!?
by Acappellaman
I get the need for human leads in a movie like Battleship or Othello, or some other franchise that doesn't have speaking characters, but we don't have that problem with Transformers. Let the freaking robots themselves be the main characters! Come on! That alone would escalate the movies beyond what we've seen so far.

Usually during the day, the Bay will put his finger up a puppies butt. Then light a baby seal on fire.

Sometimes he will sniff a Victoria Secret model's butt, but only if he has some Viagara left over from his raping of cinema. On the weekends he will lay awake, just to hear you breathing.

a lot of rumors come out of Hollywood. Matt Vaughn might direct Star Wars 7. Harrison Ford might be Indy/Han again. Armie Hammer might get to be Batman. Scorsese wants to direct Hyperion. DiCaprio producing Akira. Rumors. But any rumor involving Bay, or a Wahlberg Transformers, seriously WTF I don't give two shits. Probably a stunt anyway.

... they should make a movie version of the Fall of Cybertron video game. The robots and graphics looked outstanding in there. And if they had the full G1 cast going, it would be great. Also, they're bummed out over toy sales? I thumbed through the toy store the other day and didn't see any that I liked other than the new Bumblebee from the Prime series. I haven't been sold on the overall aesthetics and designs. But what does my opinion matter? I don't buy toys anymore, I grew out of that over a decade ago.

He's destroyed that franchise enough already! Please move along and kill something else already. Heard he was working on TMNT? Watch him fuck that up good :/

And Hell is watching Max Payne, The Happening and his turd performances (that you could pick 10 actors who would do a better job than him in ANY role he's ever done) for eternity....

OPTIMUS PRIME IS THE LEAD CHARACTER. NOT SOME HUMAN WHO IS COMPLETELY USELESS. OPTIMUS FUCKING PRIME. Doing a transformers series but having it be about a human is like doing an X-Men movie about Charles Xavier's non-mutant neighbors. it would be like spending $200,000,000 on a Perry White, Newspaperman movie. First one: A mute bumblebee's on Earth but not Optimus. Second One: Optimus is dead for 70% of the time. Third one: All the autobots are hiding under space shuttle for most of the film. THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT, BAY.

-

After all, why can't we just have a TRANSFORMERS flick populated entirely by Transformers?
by Simon
Mostly because it'd appeal exclusively to 12 year olds or people who happened to be 12 when the cartoon was on. Humans are the in for people who don't know what an autobot is and/or don't necessarily give a fuck. Why this is so difficult to understand for people I have no idea, it's such an utterly basic storytelling technique.
-
I don't care if hes in it or not. It's going to be shit anyway with Bay at the helm. I understand the movie at having real human actor roles in it. And im a devout TF fan! A CGI laden film with no real people is a pixar-type film. I just wish Micheal 'fuckin' Bay would do the franchise some justice by adhering to some of the original story that Marvel comics and the cartoon set out! Optimus is so out of character shouting out stuff like "Give me your face!", "We'll kill them all!' and allowing the enemies to kill so many humans before the autobots striked back in DOTM?! All the movies have so many plot-holes you could drive a truck through it!

When it comes to acting, Mark Wahlberg is more robotic than robots from outer space that pretend to be cars.
by buggerbugger
He'll be the least human element in the entire film. The CG will have more warmth. This can only be seen as a step in the right direction, as it will allow audiences to empathise more with CG vehicles and CG buildings and CG explosions of CG vehicles crashing into CG buildings.
-
Cause everything Bay does is BIG!
-
Said ideas seem to be attributed to "internet chatter" but it is highly likely that Wahlberg pitched some ideas to carve out a role for himself.

this is awesome. Mark Wahlberg is an excellent starer. i loved that M Night Shamalan movie where he stared at trees. that Scorsese movie where he stared at Matt Damon. the PotA remake when he stared at Helena Bonham Carter's monkey face. and of course, his career-defining role in Boogie Nights, when he stood in front of a mirror and stared at his own rubber johnson. that shows that he can work well in an sfx-heavy environment as well, perfect preparation for a Transformers film. if you want to hire an actor who can stare in a convincing fashion, who can really make the audience believe that he is truly looking at whatever it is he's staring at, then Mark Wahlberg is your man.

I mean I loathe with an unbridled passion every so called Transformers movie that Bay has done. I say so-called because I refuse to sully the name Transformers by associating it with that garbage. I'm with the kid what's wrong with just a damn Transformers movie where Robots fight other robots!

He toplines A-list pictures for the studios, then at the same time makes Straight-to-vid B-stuff for wrestling fans. This is not the kind of shit he is good in thou. He should pass for his own sake.
-
seriously, i thought it was a foregone conclusion that a new director was going to a part of the reboot. THE INTERNET HAS LIED TO ME!
-
Unless you go with full on animation or video-game level CG, can you imagine what it would cost to render every single frame of a movie in the HD resoultion necesary for a photorealistic environment inhabited by sentient robots? The production costs alone would likely exceed $300M. Plus, a 'star' and a 'relationship' story usually assure some female attendees. I'd love to see an all robot TF movie too, but it's gonna be a LONG time before the economies of scale make it financially feasible.
-
DAMN YOU MICHAEL BAY

But i'm tempted to open an exception on Michael Bay.

Somehow, i don't think that females who are obsessed with romance in movies would still be too open to the idea of watching a movie where so much of the screentime is devoted to robots. The romance junkie females want to watch romanc ein movies where the whole movie is about the romance. So, i find that logic to be quite faulty. I'm npt saying it's yours, you might just be repeating something said by some clueless executive. The fact is, today, many girls have similiar tastes to boys, as in, many girls are open to the idea of watching a movie about robots where they are the protagonists, and not some pair of love-struck teen fucks. I think many executives and filmmakers have their mentalities still stuck in the 80s.
