The Official BNAT14: THE LUCKY ONE Attendee List - 160 names
Hey folks, Harry here... There were nearly triple the applications as last year. But it also seems that a great many applications were eliminated due to a mass email glut that occurred on HALLOWEEN, people that sent on that day, especially waiting during that final 4 hours... I got an enormous block of email and apparently several emails were lost, the scope of which I can't determine. But at least 8 close friends had this occur.

If you are on the list, then you have officially won the right to purchase a ticket to attend the 14th Annual Butt-Numb-A-Thon, nicknamed THE LUCKY ONE. I am in the midst of programming and am already seeing some rather wonderful opportunities for this year's festivities.
The event will be December 8th and 9th. Plan on entering sometime before noon and exiting sometime afternoon on the second day. Mind Blown. Smile leaving marks. And friends for life. The ticket price gets announced once the line up is completed and the expenses are calculated. If you won, there will be an email with more news soon. As well as updates here on AICN, all of which will be linked by my Twitter account.
The event will be at The Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar here in Austin, Texas. See You There!!!

Send me some swag if there's any
-
If by some off chance people aren't able to attend is there a waiting list we can be put on for BNAT?
-
Congrats to everybody who got in - bummed I'm not on the list, and double bummed to hear that my application probably got lost in the glut you're talking about :( that's what I get for doing things at the last minute, I guess...
-
I think that's the last time for me, can't deal with this disappointment again. Spent way too much time on my app, and WAY too much time refreshing Harry's twitter feed and the BNAT facebook page the past few days. Have fun everyone.
-
It was fun to apply, and there's always next year!

This would be SOOOO FUN! A giant feast of movie bliss.
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
Happy birthday, Harry. Have a fucking blast.
-
not saying that in a smartass - he looks the kind of guy who would want to partake in the fun of applying. Having said that, he probably didn't.....

So one would have to go through a lengthy application only to be given the right to buy a ticket?
by Louis Rocco
That's like buying a personal seat license for 5 grand just to have the right to buy a ticket for an Eagles game
-
Though I have gone to BNAT for the last four years in a row, this year I am not on the list. Sharing the sadness with all of the non-accepted, but also very happy for the times I did get, the great friends I have made and the awesome memories. Will meet some new friends in the standby line! (ticket has been booked for months already) and I LOVE Austin. See you there! (Susan)

I expect The Hobbit, and the Evil Dead to be played at BNAT.
by Michael_Jacksons_Ghost
Also, if your reading this Harry, has there EVER been a film that premired at any of the BNATs that no one liked, or walked out on, or made fun of it during its showing? Just wondering.
-
Finally not just a bridesmaid!
-
Anyone know how it works and odds of getting in?

Pretty sure that Che played in both parts to awful reception. Rightfully so, and it completely seems like a buzzkiller. Fuck Soderbergh and fuck Che Guevara. Also, I think The Poughkeepsie tapes played as well to similar reception.

Too bad BNAT doesn't only show new films or you might be onto something.....
by john
If all BNAT showed were new films, it wouldn't be nearly as enticing or special. New films peppered with old ones make it something special. Also, who the fuck cares about This is Forty?

by Harry Knowles
-
I'm in shock I got in! For those that didn't get in, don't give up! Next year!
-
A) its got Arnie, and Harry would love to get a special appearance from Arnie. B) more importantly, Harry loves South Korean movies, and the director of the Last Stand is Kim Jee-woon who directed the brilliant I Saw The Devil. Which from memory Harry loved.
-
But highly likely there will be footage of both. As well as footage of Iron Man 3 and new Star Trek.
-
Humble thanks. Can't wait to see you and the crew.

Has BNAT played any huge tentpoles that weren't to be released within a few weeks?
by john
Green Hornet maybe? But yeah movies like MOS and Pacific Rim are highly doubtful. Maybe pieces of them/sizzle reels/trailers.
-
Sent in the last hour... I know I should have put in that I saw NATUAL BORN KILLERS - got laid for the first time and did smrooms for the 1st time before all this occur
-
I'm honored to be on the list and can't wait to watch all those movies! Thanks with all my heart!
-
Thanks so much Harry! Look forward to meeting everyone!
-
I've always thought it was lame that after all the fucking work you do, you have to shell out to be there. Not including airfare. Does anyone know how much this shit costs?
-
The Passion of the Christ, V For Vendetta and 300 showed at BNAT a few months before there theatrical release.
-
Boob-Numb-A-Thon. Yeah, I know.
-
Yes, you still have to pay, usually in the $80 range, which for a 24 hour film festival is exceptionally reasonable. On top of that, the money at least in part goes to fund movies for kids, so I'm all for that. As for Elijah Wood, as far as I understand it, he fills out a full application every year, and appears in the year book just like everyone else. (there's stuff in the year book that comes out of the applications).
-
Lucky sob, and yes I am jelly.
-
Were you invited to BNAT 14?
-
Thanks so much for the opportunity to attend. I can't wait!!!
-
First off, I know that this event is put together for Harry by Harry
-
The way standby line works is a couple of hours before BNAT starts the people in standby getting raffle tickets then about 30 minutes before BNAT begins they pull they pull numbers for the amount of open seats from people who had to back out. The years I did standby line there was 4-5 vacant seats and around 40-50 people in standby, mostly locals of course and a few crazies from out of town like me that drove out from Miami to take a chance at getting in. The last couple of years I heard there was only a one or two vacant seats so your odds of getting in can be anywhere from 2-10% of getting in through standy line, most likely closer to 2%.
-
First off, I know that this event is put together for Harry by Harry so he can really do whatever the fuck he wants. Having said that, why make it sound like there are 160 seats available? There aren't. 4 of those names have "Knowles" at the end of them, you have Peter Sciretta (who writes for slashfilm but obviously is a film geek), Elijah Wood (how would Harry say no to this dude even if he didn't do an app?), Jaime King (actress), Ernest Cline (author of Ready Player One), C. Robert Cargill (I've seen this guy at Fantastic Fest for years but he also is the writer for the film Sinister which just came out), and Lana Del Rey??? Come on! Lana Del Rey? You're telling me that Lana Del Rey is a bigger movie fan and did a better application than some of these past BNATTERS? Give me a break. These people were in when they hit "Send" on their apps.
-
Thanks, Headgeek, for the opportunity to mingle with some of the best people on Earth. To the fortunate few: see ya in about a month. To the disappointed: I've been there. It's not a great feeling. Try again and keep trying. I do feel so lucky... Probably the luckiest. :)
-
Really - She's a geek? Oh my word.
-
I was told that these BNATs run on autopilot after the initial selections. That means the DVD column will be up on time tomorrow?
-
One year only 2 people got in on standby, but other years there were more spaces. It's a lottery, you show up Saturday morning with everyone else, then when all tickets are picked up and everyone is seated they check the empty seats and draw some names of the people in standby. There's no waiting list, you have to arrive the day of. Harry will post more info in the next few weeks, it depends what time BNAT will start this year.

Long Live BNAT! I'll see you all in early December! It's become an annual tradition for me to throw out some mystical predictions about possible premieres!
by The Reluctant Austinite
Geek Christmas, here I come, after two years of forced absence during these tough economic times that we all live in. Even AICN has felt the financial pain this year, and my prayers go out to everyone who reads this website or contributes to it in some way that has suffered the loss of a job or stressed over how they were going to get through the month. We've got to stick together. Now I'm going to ramble on about what new stuff we MIGHT see. Of course, like many attendees, it's usually the vintage stuff that either makes or breaks the whole event, depending on our individual tastes and what we have and haven't seen. BBbbbbuuuuuttttt, it's the advance stuff that everyone on the outside is thinking about, so I'll take a stab at a few possible titles even though my accuracy rate has been historically pretty low. "The Hobbit." Duh? It's the 14th BNAT, the Lucky Number, and this comes out the next week. ALL of the LOTR movies have played BNAT. If there's one certainity, this is it. "This is 40." BNAT usually plays one new comedy, and Harry is 41, plus "Knocked Up" played BNAT and Paul Rudd is a website friend, and everybody loves Paul Rudd! "Jack Reacher"? It's a possibility, because Tom Cruise seems to be sympathetic to the website and "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" and "Valkyrie" both played BNAT. Not sure about this one, however. "Cirque du Soleil: World's Away." Dont't write this off so quick! James Cameron is the Executive Producer and BNAT almost always plays some type of musical (for the same reason, don't discount "Les Miserables"). It looks like a visual feast as well. And it's kind of Christmas-y. "Django Unchained." If there was another certianty other than "The Hobbit," this would be it. Tarantino is a friend of the website, the film will be ready for screening and the whole affair just screams BNAT. I look for this to close the party. "West of Memphis." Sure, it's a Peter Jackson produced documentary. It's getting amazing reviews and would make a solid, socially important premiere. We know we're seeing "The Hobbit," so this would be an easy sidekick to tack on. Strong possibility (and that makes me very, very happy!). "Texas Chainsaw 3D." BNAT usually provides one horror film, generally in the Midnight or 2AM slot, and we ARE in Texas, right? Harry loves TCSM. Films like "My Bloody Valentine 3D" have played BNAT before and this also provides a 3D gimmick. This is my last guess, and somebody above suggested "The Last Stand," but I'm not psychically feeling that one. But, if something does play a couple of months in advance, I don't think it will involve Arnold or Bruce. But Sly? Stallone is a friend of the website, and WALTER "Fucking" HILL directed "Bullet in the Head," so that would be my dark horse contender. However, I've been wrong about Sly before. "Rocky Balboa" played BNAT and I was 100% sure that "Rambo" would too, but BNAT only got clips from that one. This is the longest shot of all my guesses so far. Any thoughts?

ok here's my thougs on whats gonna be showing at Bnat
by Wilford_Brimleys_Diabetes_Rage
1...Harry has the Teaser to the new Wolverine flick..expect that. 2. Someway, somehow Harry has the advanced screening of the new Robocop..shitty as the movie may be 3. with the new Disney/Lucasfilm merger there has to be something Star Wars/Indiana Jones related there. 4. Trailers for Ant-Man, Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 5. Expect the Kick-Ass 2 trailer..if not the whole film..Harry showed the first one at BNAT so why not this one.
-
But I can't get fricking anywhere these days so *pfffft*. :-(
-
They basically do a drawing for everyone who is there by a certain time (let's say 11 AM).
-
Judging just based on the stories of friends, POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES was probably the most poorly received premiere in the history of BNAT.
-
This was very poorly received as well.
-

Congrats to the winners...but whats with the AICN staffers making the list?
by Logan_1973
Reminds me of TV contest rules which prevent employees of the hosting station from participating. How does it look when Brian Williams wins the NBC sweepstakes?
-
What?!? AICN writers are invited to an AICN event?!? Someone call Drudge! There's some heavy Bush-Orchestrated-9/11 shit going on here and you uncovered it! Seriously, though, that analogy is incredibly flawed. This isn't a contest with a prize, it's an Ain't It Cool event that also happens to be Harry's birthday party.
-
My point is shouldn't these coveted and rare spots be reserved for the common folk who are not on Harrys A-list?
-
It was so bad, the filmmakers didn't even stick around for the Q&A afterward. I felt bad for Moriarty trying his best to defend afterward. It was truly awful.
-
That is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard in my life. Do you invite homeless people to your birthday party??? Harry can invite whoever the fuck he wants. And yes, I got in. Hopefully I'll be seated right between Lana and Elijah (yeah, bitch, first name basis because we're going to be cool like that!)
-
Calm down son. Maybe I misunderstood the guidelines, and yeah Harry can invite whoever he wants of course. All I'm saying there really wasn't 160 "open spots" for people to apply to, now was there? Geez you boys are sensitive.

"Tiptoes," for the love of God, somebody mentioned the film that can not be named!
by The Reluctant Austinite
"Tiptoes" is a scar that will never heal. I also remember a fairly negative audience response to "House of 1,000 Corpses." The whole audience applauded at Rob Zombie's name in the credits, and everyone was laughing and engaged during the opening scene, but 30 minutes later they turned on the film and it got nasty and quiet after that.
-
Win this auction and mail the contents to Harry Knowles. I'm pretty sure you'll have a BNAT seat for life. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Medicom-Super-Inframan-Skeleton-Warrior-12-figures-set-Mint-in-Box-RARE-/251179524844?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item3a7b7762ec

xiolableu01 - so am I, but nobody ever gets it. Becasue of the Darth.
by Nintendarth
Even though there are lady Darths. Whatever.
-
I hear that the Gatsby blue flying magical dinosaur sequences WALK ALL OVER the ones in AVATAR.
-
And if it did... was I not worthy? were my thoughts and feelings not good enough? was it the fact that I left out the optional video of a recreation of a favorite scene? I wanted to see if my words are good enough and not some flashy video I made. was the fact that the translation from Mac's text to an email erased the double spacing and(trying to make up for it) tried to make it look double-spaced in the email body but ended up looking really weird in the final sent email? Why do I care? Is it because I put so much of myself and privacy into that application? Does it mean I am not worthy of geek love? Look what you've done to me Harry. I feel like a jilted stalker that you denied love. What is to become of this psyche borne of rejection? A supervillain? A world-ending madman? A superhero, out to prove himself? Subconsciously vying for love and acceptance from Harry that he never got from his father? An agent with no identity, looking for who he is to everyone outside his mind?
-
The devilish part of me wants to reply to you, but it could be misconstrued as snarky especially since most of your post is in jest. I didn't get in the first time I applied. :-/ But, as for it not getting to its proper destination, we'll never know. I sent my app the morning of the last day, and it seemed to be one of the lucky ones for that day. Making a video always helps. I have the camera built into my laptop and an ironing board for my "tripod," so it wasn't flashy by any means, but it shows extra effort put forth. Several of my friends used cameras on their phones to record. It's that little touch of extra effort that really helps out in the end. I use a Mac, and I went back to manually double space after it single spaced my previous double spacing; I feel your pain. Though you may not have gotten in this year, there is still standby and other years. One guy just got in after 9 years of applying. As long as you keep caring, keep applying. We care because we love movies...at times a bit too much for the taste of the masses.
-
Girlfriend and I (oddly 98 and 89 respectively) will be there! Just moved down to Texas with eyes on Austin early next year. This is the first time we've applied but I've wanted to go since I was 15. Beyond geeked.
-
Seriously, I thought once he left CHUD and moved west he was invited to all the geek circle jerks. Is he on the outs with all the celebs he used to name drop on the Chewer boards?

by Jaka
That just seems like some pretty basic logic, actually.
-

Elijah Wood - cool, I figure he's part of it now. Jaime King - she was FOINE back in the day...
by Jaka
...I'll assume that hasn't changed too much. Cool that she'd be interested in attending. But Lana Del Rey?!? lol That one TOTALLY threw me. Weird, and cool... I think.
-
Nov. 9, 2012, 9:08 a.m. CST
Remember, Elijah has "Maniac" coming out and Jamie King has "Silent Night" coming out: Two horror films that would benefit from having their actual stars in attendance for possible Q&A's. Will they screen? Stay tuned!

DON'T READ THIS IF WANT TO BE SURPRISED ON THE DAY OF BNAT! You've been warned! Bullet to the Head The Hobbit Jack Reacher Les Miserables (after attempts at The Great Gatsby failed) Machete Kills Pain and Gain Surprised that Maniac isn't screening, but maybe they felt one Elijah film was enough this time. No Evil Dead, either, but be thankful that Texas Chainsaw 3-D didn't pull through. Django Unchained isn't included either, but it will be released pretty shortly afterward. There is also a work-in-prog
