I'm curious if and/or how much of a bump there is in viewers once High School Football season comes to an end.
-
And there, ladies and gentlemen, we have the problem with America right now summed up in a nice, succinct statement by the always-reliable Rob Reiner.

I'm shocked to admit, MOCKINGBIRD LANE actually wasn't half bad...
by TheSeeker7
However, a note on the casting... while yes she's brilliant as Lindsay on Arrested Development, Portia Delrossi is not NEARLY hot enough for me to buy her as this woman who'd make practically any man fall under her spell immediately (I realize part of it is "magic" or whatever, but the woman should also naturally be very beautiful).
-
Besides, isn't comparing ratings for a show that aired last week to one that aired 5 years ago kind of like comparing apples to elephants? Every year the networks need to lower the bar of where "respectable" ratings lie. Ratings that got a show cancelled 5 years ago would today be viewed as an acceptable plateau ("if we can just keep the ratings holding there, it's all good").
-
... and they're really good. Definitely better the second time around. I think now maybe they're going to go all out bleak dark depressing ending, possibly with some sort of time-travel reversal of events so none of it never happened type thing at the very end ... but possibly not. It'd be gutsy going super-bleak, and interesting to see.
-
I hate to sound like a broken record, but will there be a Fringe only Talkback for this episode? Pretty please?
-
Not sure what Hercs method of deciding when to devote a whole talkback to fringe or not is. So this week we get to wade through the Maher garbage again for any real Fringe discussion. Definatly agree with you about how great the Fringe episodes hold up on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and more viewings.
-
it will blow away the ending of The X-Files. I CAN'T believe I just typed that sentence, by the way. When it started, I thought Fringe was just going to be X-Files Redux... boy was I wrong. Happily wrong.
-
Can't wait to see what happens tonight.
-
Seagrass - totally right. I re-watched almost all of the X-Files a few months ago. I couldn't finish Robert Patrick's first season however. Nothing against him, in fact I liked his character a lot. But with Mulder out of the picture, it just lost something, and Scully wasn't cutting it. Loved the first ... seven seasons though. paburrows_rises - that's a bummer, as wading through that junk gets old. Talking of junk (what a terrible transition), I'm trying to make a list of the Fringe mythology episodes, plus the important non-mythology episodes (like White Tulip, which - HOLY SHIT BALLS - was possibly one of the best episodes of television anywhere, ever) for a relative. I just know that they won't make it through the monster of the week episodes of season 1 for example, but there's some important character building stuff in there for when you do get to the season 2 onwards over there arc. So, long story short, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Veronica Mars was awesome but Nikita is a very competent show as well.
by Volllllume3
Don't see what the need is to compare the two.
-

With Mulder gone, a lot of the "wit" from the show went away with him. But then again, the wit was pretty much gone by season 7.
by hank henshaw
I'd argue that Season 7 was much worse than Doggett's season 8, and about as bad as the final season. Robert Patrick was fine, but Doggett was not interesting enough to be a leading character. And pairing Doggett with Scully rarely worked, no matter how hard the actors tried. The writing was just not good or consistent. Must be said that Doggett was a much better character than Reyes, she was truly nothing. It didn't help that, during the "L.A years", the Syndicate bad guys were poorly replaced by those damn "super-soldiers" that never made any sense. Lazy writing from Carter and Spotnitz. Thankfully Vince Gilligan was able to learn from his mentor's mistakes. Imagine if The X-Files had Breaking Bad's attention to detail and continuity. It would be considered one of the best tv shows ever (which it still is the case, somewhat...)
-
Yeah, I think you nailed it, especially regarding Reyes. I think ending the series completely, then focusing all energies on The Lone Gunmen (which I thought had great potential but went in the wrong direction) would have resulted in a more satisfying series, and a better expansion of the universe. Good point re Breaking Bad and Gilligan... imagine a Lone Gunmen series with a serious tone and that kind of attention to detail and production values - total badassery. And no new characters, no special effects, just the three guys investigating non-alien conspiracies (none of that crap with the other two... I can't even remember their names) and struggling to make ends meet.

I have season 4 and 5 of Fringe sitting in my TiVo box ...
by Judge Briggs
Need to start that up!
-
I think is that it was cancelled for low ratings that would be high ratings for the CW now, regardless of eroding ratings or not for networks in the past five years. Network ratings have been eroding ever since cable. I imagine network viewers will be even lower in five years, but single episode buys on itunes or Amazon will go up. I don't like the ratings system anyway, I think it is not accurate. Bill Maher's rating should be accurate as its paid HBO, but the CW ratings are higher I really think, lots of people don't have cable so they watch cw, and they don't have Nielson boxes either

Why would The Observers NOT be swarming the warehouse ? *spoilers*
by tangcameo
When they all walk back into the warehouse they just shot their way out of, and there's no Observers about? Plus if they can see through time, as it was explained back a couple of seasons ago, wouldn't they be able to see where the Fringe gang disappeared to anyway? And how did they know that chemical car in the train would stop on that bridge? Oh wait, wrong show. ;-P

kindly recall the longstanding AICN talkback rules: No spamming No trolling No posting off-topic No personal attacks No annoying the moderator Repeated violations will get you banned. Banning automatically wipes away every message you ever posted on this site. Rachel Maddow is a Rhodes scholar, an author and the daughter of a United States Air Force captain. David Letterman calls her "the smartest person I know." Please stop posting incorrect information. Maddow and O'Reilly each have far more than 600 viewers.

from TV By The Numbers: A18-49 or Adults 18-49 Ratings - this is the advertising demographic advertisers are usually most interested in for primetime shows. It's the important number in terms of how well a show is doing. Total viewers (P2+ above) don't really make a difference. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/demystifying-the-s/

BTT: I'm eager for tonight's Fringe episode. Season 5 - so far - is the strawberry on top of that cram pie, that were all seasons before it. Can't wait to see The Bell return.. at least I strongly hope, he does!
-
Ahem.. didn't some dude back then in the eighties talk about an edit button..? ;-)

I remember watching the first episode of fringe, yep x-files clone, yup slightly wooden unemotional actress lol The strength of the show is unlike x-files which was relentlessly dark, Fringe is able to intersperse moments of humour, with moments of tension and action. John Noble take a bow, the this is greek except I know greek, this is aramaic but I can read aramaic is the case n point, like jewels of comedy then blam take out a major character. Suddenly the observer story line gets way way more interesting
-
I mean, from what Herc posted, what did he do that wasn't what he always did?
-
Loved the Observer playing Peter....and Peter making it suffer, and then seemingly turning himself into Metahuman Peter. I really hope it doesn't turn out that he's somehow the progenitor of the Observers by inserting the tech.

Herc Strikes Count. A number. Or little green, yellow and red lights in the corner of the screen. And when you hit three strikes (or whatever number) that little animation of Herc in the corner does something rude to you (by name - like that Breaking Bad emailable video) or he does some classic movie or TV thing before shutting you out (Herc as Magnum PI, turning off the TV at the very end of the series). um. okay. I'm not that curious, Herc. ;-P
-
Who saw that coming? So great. Possibiliies just went off the chart. I think we can now file the tree people episode under "filler". I get the feeling that things just keep getting better. thumbs way up Fringe team.
-
With the way the Observers were suddenly appearing out of nowhere and attacking Peter and Olivia, for some reason I was suddenly reminded of the agents in the first Matrix film. And then with ending of the episode and the promo for next week's episode, it'll be like Peter = Neo and he's suddenly realized his new powers and can take on the Observers on a more equal footing now.
-
I liked Doggett a lot, and it went back to dark and scary after several seasons of gimmick and humor episodes. And which season was it where one or both of them "died" every other episode? Dead! Oh, it's ghosts playing tricks. Dead! Oh, it's a giant fungus hallucination. Dead! Oh, it's Groundhog Day. Dead! Oh, it's the Pusher guy.

WTFWTFWTF?!?!?!? I thought I knew where this season, I can happily say that with tonight....I have no fucking clue. Badass, pissed Peter Bishop is 2000000 pounds of awesome. Just hoping that kickass Olivia joins him soon. So many questions.... Will Peter become "Observer smart" or does he just gain their physical abilities? Does the tech join him to a collective consciousness or just enhance him? Ability to move through time/space? Does this mean doom for Peter and Olivia? Did Peter build the machine? Totally blown away by this episode.

...which opened up so many possibilities. I was dreading there being too much mourning/crying sad scenes over Etta's death - not because there shouldn't be those scenes, but season 4 had so many "let's spell our feelings out for the viewers" scenes, that more of those would seem to take away from the plot and limited time to the end. But, I thought the scene near the end with Olivia calling Peter while he inserted the tech was actually very well done. Also, I have vague memories of people mentioning Peter becoming an Observer as far back as season 3 - I wonder if that's just coincidence, or an idea that was seeded by talkbackers? I hope they maintain this pace to the end, and there are no more filler episodes like the recording tree face people. I'm still trying to figure out what to take away from that episode. And someone above pointed out how amazing John Noble is, citing the Greek/physics in Observer language scene. Totally right, that was equal parts hilarious and awesome. There better be some major awards headed his way sometime soon. I think this is my favorite iteration of Walter so far - he's still funny, but he's got a piece of Walternate's scary dead-eye badassery going on too. Perfect balance.
-
Where are your women?
-
I was wondering that too. That, and where are all the actors who've been playing the Observers for the past 4 seasons. This seasons Observers are definitely more made-up... their faces have a weird texture, whereas in prior seasons they were just bald, pale guys. Probably nothing.
-
Four years ago -- when Maddow (who seems quite smart to me and, I suspect, most people) trailed both CNN and Fox News with a much, much smaller audience -- Sen. Obama beat his opponent handily. As all our figures -- yours and mine -- demonstrate, a very tiny percentage of the American voting public watches cable news. Cable news audiences don't decide elections. Having said this, I will stipulate that Fox News attracts the oldest audience of any channel (it has and will probably ALWAYS have far more viewers between 50 and 135 years of age), IF you concede that MSNBC has made staggering gains over the last four years in the 18-49 demo and now routinely beats CNN by a country mile in that demo. Now. If you contend the 18-49 demo is now meaningless to advertisers, you can take that up with TV By The Numbers. In my experience TV By The Numbers is correct: the 18-49 demo decides what stays and goes and for that reason I will continue to follow that demo for the foreseeable future. So stop annoying your fellow talkbackers with total audience figures. Or at least include all the zeroes so we know what concerns you so much. Bill O'Reilly attracts a lot of his fellow frightened elders. We get it. And, unless you're 11, stop with the daily name-calling or your posts and your access will soon go poof.

Fringe: Date Set for the Final Episode The end is almost here... by Eric GoldmanNovember 2, 2012FOX have announced the date for the finale of Fringe. The five-season sci-fi journey will conclude on Friday, January 18th with the final two episodes airing back-to-back, and the series coming to an end with its 100th episode. Said co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams, “It has been an absolute honor to have been a part of the weird and wonderful world of Fringe. I will always owe the cast and crew for pouring their hearts and souls into every dimension of this series. Creating the show with Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman was a joy, but watching it evolve over the years into such an imaginative, insane and heartbreaking ride is nothing less than a thrill. I am grateful to our blessed fans, and to Kevin Reilly and Peter Rice and everyone at the glorious Fox network for allowing Fringe to reach its bittersweet conclusion.” Executive producer and showrunner J. H. Wyman said, “Above all else, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to personally thank everyone involved with Fringe. From the most amazing fans, to our incredible cast, writers and crew, and our wonderful partners at FOX and Warner Bros. – we would not be here without you. It simply cannot be overstated how grateful I am for the ongoing and unconditional support we have received over the past five seasons. It has been both mind-blowing and humbling. I’ve always been a fan of science fiction, and to be able to tell this story about a family – a family that, through everything, fought together for survival – has been a highlight of my career. As we approach the final chapter, I can hardly believe it, and I’m just truly thankful for this unparalleled experience.” “Fringe has truly imagined the impossibilities over its five seasons and will go down in the books as one of FOX’s most riveting and creatively brilliant series,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “It has been a blast to work with J.J., Joel and their masterful creative teams, as well as with Anna, Josh and John and the rest of the most talented cast and crew in the business.”

...the conservative counter-narrative is already in effect. All one has to do is read Karl Rove's latest shit-screed to see how they will shape their excuses (i.e. Either we win or you cheated!) should President Obama win re-election. Simply the fact that they've also chosen to go after Nate Silver (WTF?) is a huge tip-off to the bizarro world reality they've chosen to inhabit. It's a sad state of affairs an all-too-predictable in an Orwellian manner.

Obama ran down to meet Cristie for a photo op which shut down any and all relief work in that area and got a slight bump in the polls and then the campainer in chief ran to Nevada and other places to tell everyone how great he is rather then actually do real relief help from the White House. Theres countless reports of gas rationing and suffering on the east coast, this is Obamas Katrina. And the more that we find out about Libya the more we are finding out that its another Watergate.

About Sandy... it's no Katrina. 1000 people died in Katrina and the survivors were ignored for weeks...
by American Mythos
... This President was coordinating with federal and state officials the DAY BEFORE Sandy hit. Even Michael Brown ('heck of a job, Browny!') criticized Obama for responding too quickly. I kid you not. You know what I saw on the news tonight? Stories about 40,000 electrical workers from the U.S. and Canada being flewn in (along with their trucks) by the U.S. military to restore power to blacked out regions. The DOD sending in gas and deisel to areas experiencing fuel shortages. Staten Island residents who just 24 hours ago felt neglected now praising the response from their government -- this 3 days after the storm hit, not 3 weeks. Mayor Bloomberg coming to his senses and canceling the NYC marathon. Governor Christie under fire from the right for effusively praising Obama's handling of the storm (Limbaugh called him 'a fat fool'). Hell, I almost feel sorry for Christie. I had pegged him as a shoe-in for the 2016 GOP nomination, now Republicans will peg him as the man who helped Obama win re-election. Obama has a 78 percent approval for his handling of Sandy (ABC News/Washington Post). Douchebag carnival barker Donald Trump is even predicting an Obama win now, citing Sandy (of course Obama was always going to win I think). Dick Morris is now toning down his Romney landslide rhetoric, saying Republicans should be worried. It's over for Romney. Over. It probably always was.

PaBurrows_Rises - You don't know what you're talking about...
by Mr. Nice Gaius
...and it's clear that you've swallowed the Kool-Aid, too. It would pretty much end Silver's career if he were found to be "cooking the books" as his reputation and livelihood is currently based on his 538 model. Silver isn't as interested in outcomes as much as he is in the validity of his analysis. It's one that has remained remarkably consistent across state and national polls as well as the Electoral College. And guess what? His isn't the only scientific polling model that's predicting a similar outcome. Now, Silver has already stated on numerous occasions that nothing is a sure bet. There are many variables at play (voter turnout & so forth). But the guy is literally willing to put his money where his mouth is (Hello, morning Joe...) for the sake of his model and methodology. I guess conservatives have got their panties in a wad over this guy because they can't find anyone with an analytical model that predicts their desired outcome. All they've got is people like Dick I'm-Always-Wrong Morris (a guy who can't even get the number of individual states electoral votes right) and dubious predictions for a landslide by various right-wing punditry and other assorted asshats.
-
I'm curious if what Peter did to himself is going to turn him against them or just make him colder like Walter was in the Season 4 episode. I always love how well they tie the mystery of the week to whatever the characters are going through.
-
2 hr series finale on Jan 19th. It'll be nice that the Obama's can watch it in their big, White House.
-
Maybe that's a side effect of the implant (I'm only half-joking).
-
Despite having his memories wiped, Walter seems more focused and therefore more "dangerous" than he's been in the past. I also love how John Noble is playing him as a grandfather who is just happy to have his family together, even in the dire circumstances that they find themselves in. The scene with Walter and Olivia and the Betamax tape was especially well played by both actors. And speaking of bad ass Walter, I can't help but feel that while he's encouraging Olivia to accept and move on from Etta's death, Walter is not above exercising some payback of his own in a future episode.
-
The problem today is that the modern GOP doesn't want to believe that people are professional - that not everyone brings a political slant to their work ... which is why they are saying Silver is 'cooking the books.' Media reports the stories = liberal bias Academia teaches the facts and science = liberal bias ...it's crazy! They truly believe everyone brings a partisan slant to their work and unless it's conforms to their reality, the work should be dismissed as faulty. I have my bottle of champagne that I look forward to popping open when I hear that Obama has secured W(isconsin) O(hio) and N(evada) ... I will drink my champagne ... watch FOX 'News' and then fuck my girlfriend to properly close out the night. I wonder if we'll see Jay or Couglins anymore after the Obama win? Who do you think the scapegoat of this election will be? Can't ACORN ... hmmm ... ?

Fringe, another really good episode, only complaint is how weak the Observers' occupation is being portrayed
by Rebel Scumb
we've have several ACTUAL dictatorships and occupations in our real world where the oppressors didn't have godlike powers, come from the future or the ability to read minds and they all ran a tighter ship than this Resistance using cellphones? Living in Etta's apartment? Working casually out of their old base at Harvard? Planting cube device in the street uninterrupted? Peter stands casually in a window in broad daylight holding a grenade launcher? 'Secret meeting' with Nyman and Fringe team on the site where the first shipment of cubes came through, mid day? I love this show, and in every other respect this season has been great, but the writers have been really lazy in terms of portraying the Observors as the conquering villians. Hell I could run a resistence against these guys, or at least it feels that way with how little effort they are putting into catching the heros. Anyways, looking forward to the rest. As I said, the characters, the scifi, the drama, the comedy, the plot have all been great otherwise.
-
I only know of her from her most recent appearance on Maher, and I'm about as left wing as they come, but I found her incredibly shrill and using the absolute lowest tactics of arguments (I can shout louder & faster than you!!!!) that made me wish she wasn't arguing for 'my side'. She just seems like the left wing equivelant to that horrible blonde Maher interviewed a few weeks ago, the neocon who wrote a book claiming racism ended in the 1970s... but also that liberals were the true racists. Maybe Maddow isn't like that on her own show, but I find it hard to believe anyone that annoying could turn that on and off.
-
Has anyone been watching? I was worried it would be just another lame action show like Strike back, but so far it's been really good and intriguing.
-
I'm Canadian so obviously can't vote in the US election, but hopefully Obama wins, and things go well for you guys. Romney seems really terrifying to me, I'd hate to think of him with any power, not to mention as Maher pointed out last week, all the crazies that get let in the door with him. Even our current Prime Minister Stephen Harper, our own homegrown brand of terrifying inhuman neocon android probably wouldn't have got elected if not for the confidence Bush getting elected gave our conservatives. Anyways, regardless of what you believe, get out and vote!
-
I think the whole fact that they almost got cancelled last season worked out really well for them. It made season 4 awesome and jampacked with payoff as they thought they had to tie everything up, and they did! Which means that this final season has basically no pressure on it to answer questions or resolve anything other than the observer storyline, so its all just a bonus. And so with that in mind they are free just to tell this good 12 part story because the show has essentially already had its series finale last year, and a great one to. This sort of feels more like when they do a movie after a show ends, like the TNG movies after the TNG tv show ended, only those were not good, and this season of fringe is.

considering what we learned like last year, I guess it was, that the Observers are just the next stage in human evolution, they've just traveled back here from extremely far in the future... well if they had the ability to jump back in time, why didn't they arrive at some point even earlier than where they are now, so humans wouldn't have nearly as advanced defenses to try and resist them?

Thing I keep wondering if they're going to address especially since the observers are supposedly only from a few hundred years in our future is the fact that wouldn't them conquering their own past potentially prevent them from ever existing? And likewise if the fringe people are fighting against an invader race that is their own future, shouldn't they also be trying to prevent whatever causes this? Or maybe like you said this IS what causes the observers. Very curious to see where it all goes.

*Four years ago -- when Maddow (who seems quite smart to me and, I suspect, most people) trailed both CNN and Fox News with a much, much smaller audience -- Sen. Obama beat his opponent handily.*--- SO? ur judgement is highly suspect anyway. btw- i didnt think flailing ones arms, lying, acting smarmy, and running from debate when challenged makes one *quite smart*. *As all our figures -- yours and mine -- demonstrate, a very tiny percentage of the American voting public watches cable news. Cable news audiences don't decide elections.*--- agreed. but FNC showing both sides is VERY needed. if not, u would have thought ablameya was the second coming. *Having said this, I will stipulate that Fox News attracts the oldest audience of any channel (it has and will probably ALWAYS have far more viewers between 50 and 135 years of age), IF you concede that MSNBC has made staggering gains over the last four years in the 18-49 demo and now routinely beats CNN by a country mile in that demo.*--- u would be wrong on the Fox stipulation, ur idiotic 50-135 of age comment is proof. as to ur MSNBC crap...again, SO? WTF does 18-49 have to do with anything? u just stated that their meager audience means nothing. and beating CNN in ANYTHING is not considered *staggering* gains. that demo (and any other) is MEANINGLESS. * In my experience TV By The Numbers is correct: the 18-49 demo decides what stays and goes and for that reason I will continue to follow that demo for the foreseeable future.*--- *sigh*...the only reason u tout these stupid 18-49 from TVBTN is because thats the ONLY thing that MSNBC and the dullard maddow can come relatively close to FNC on a *regular* basis. and it fits ur partisan narrative. * So stop annoying your fellow talkbackers with total audience figures.*--- moving the goal posts, eh?? or...another way to put it is...stop putting the dullard maddows shitty numbers in PERSPECTIVE and showing how insignificant she really is. and posting about ratings IS *on topic*. u have some really thin skin for ur dullard hero, herc. * Or at least include all the zeroes so we know what concerns you so much.*--- ??? wow. forgive me, i though progressives had SOME common sense. i will alleviate this horrendous oversight! besides, YOU ARE the one who is *concerned* since u bring up the dullard maddows numbers when she TIES BOR/FNC on some random night. * Bill O'Reilly attracts a lot of his fellow frightened elders. We get it.*--- yea, we get it alright. ur a *registered republican*, which leads me to the final point.... *And, unless you're 11, stop with the daily name-calling or your posts and your access will soon go poof.*--- ur previous statement i just posted PROVES u are a partisan hack. that *frightened elders* jab just proves it. now, IF u would be a smartass about the dullard maddows audience, then u would NOT be a f'ing hack. u would be an equal opportunity political commentator. dare i say, *fair and balanced*. but, NO. anything the dullard maddow does is *untouchable and praiseworthy*, yet anything BOR, FNC or Palin is deemed mock worthy. THIS IS WHY UR A F'ING HACK, MAN! hell, BOR gets on my nerves too, but at least im HONEST about it. YOU, however, are a blind, partisan, lying hack. the dullard maddow LIES and DISTORTS facts on a regular basis, yet u IGNORE it and heap praises upon her. this is what i call u out on. get some thicker skin if ur going to champion a dullard. i will give AICN (and u) credit, u ARE real patient with people who call u out on ur obvious bias and bullshit. kuddos for that :)

Well yea that's something I thought about as well just even with this episode. If the Observers are bringing these oxygen thingies back to 2036 from their future to build the machine, isn't that in itself potentially majorly altering the future?

Alas, these are the kinds of plot holes we seem to inevitably run into with any story so heavily using time travel.

I think the observers are from an alternate dimension's future. Not necessarily that specific world's future.
by happybunni
So them coming back in time, to another dimension, doens't impact things. Wonder what's going to happen with Peter now... Is he going to become cold and emotionless? How long is he going to hide what he is from the rest of the team?
-
He's not even left wing by the standards of most other developed countries, the US doesn't have a leftist party, they have a Right wing party, and a slightly less right wing party, or at best a middle ground party. It would actually probably improve the overall political process to have a 3rd party to give people more to choose from Our system is far from perfect to, mainly because you aren't really voting for the Prime Minister, just the party rep for your specific area, this becomes a problem when you may like a certain party, but not happen to like the specific rep for your area. Or might like the leader of one party, but not like the party as a whole. We essentially have 3 major parties, 2 smaller ones, and then a bunch of tiny ones so small they basically don't count: On the right: PC/Conservatives, our current PM is from this party The Liberal party: which is essentially the equivelant to the Democrats in the US, though like I said the name is misleading because they aren't the Left wing party here, just called that The NDP (National Democratic Party): This is the main Left wing party There is also the Bloc du Quebec, which are the ones who want quebec to seperate. and The Green Party, which are a bit further left to the NDP but still fairly small. Generally what happens in most Canadian elections (and we call them at the drop of a hat) is at the last minute most people switch from either PC to NDP to vote Liberal, as its the compromise between the 2, and all the PCs care more about NOT letting the NDP get more power, and the NDPs do the same because they don't want the PCs to get more power. SO it all ends somewhere in the middle. Anyways, I think its more than a bit of a stretch to consider Obama a socialist.
-
I guess the arguement could be the whole point of Septembers team was to analyze all the timelines to figure out when they could invade without erasing their own future. I just hope this at least gets addressed I think they should have said the observers were humans from like the year... I dunno like 45,000 or something. Saying they are only from 2300 or whatever they said a few weeks ago seems too soon in the future for this sort of disconnect

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/03/nov-2-for-romney-to-win-state-polls-must-be-statistically-biased/?hp Obama ahead in 19 of 22 swing states as of yesterday, with 83.7% chance of winning Electoral College. That's called "Math", fuckers... also "Science". Not spin or someone's opinion. Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee. Let's call a spade a fucking spade- these people are our homegrown Taliban. They don't wear turbans but that's the only difference. They still want to lock down your wives and daughters, humble and humiliate your poor and disenfranchised, and rape and pillage your economy- again.
-
Yeah those are good points. I've always wondered that, it would make sense that they only come from one specific future timeline. Otherwise, there would potentially be other timelines with alternate Observers. Or alternates but who are not Observer-ized with tech. Or maybe in the Observer far-future, they converged all timelines using their tech, hence no alternates and the ease with which they skip across dimensions, as well as through time. What did I just say?
-
Yeah as weird as it sounds what you just wrote made sense to me, in a Fringe sort of way. I still sort of think this is headed to some sort of UNDO button machine where the Observers are erased from history, but as a result it means Peter never came over from Alt world because Walter never got distracted by September. Something like that.
-
You have turned everything upside down. I don't think everything is out the window, but things are going to take turns we never expected. Also, scumb, I don't think this is going to be a standalone season. There are still tons of things they can bring full circle. If they have now made Peter the first Observer. Well, fuck me.
-
Tha's what origin the story surely implies? Maybe the first Observer (the rest being imperfect clones?), or maybe he ends up being September (hence why September went to see Walter and distracted him/saved peter in the lake?) Whatever the case I'm definitley leaning towards the reset theory. It'd be so harsh if they just lost etta forever. Also that's three kids peter and olivia/fauxlivia have lost. Etta twice and fauxlivia's baby too. Haha maybe they don't deserve to be parents...
-
Peter as the original Observer is crazy times. He would have to go to the far future to become that though, right? But not too far, somewhere in between Fringe-present and the Observer far future. That raises a similar question that was around in season 3: who built the machine? I think it was established that alternate future Walter and Peter built it then scattered the parts throughout time, correct? But if Peter becomes the original Observer by inserting tech from the far-future into his own body - then maybe traveling forward through time - does that mean that the tech was never created? It just existed? Or that his traveling forward would create an alternate timeline that used tech from another timeline (this current one)? I'm over-thinking this. I dunno, maybe becoming an Observer is too obvious. In the holographic blueprints we've seen Walter looking at, is it a different machine he's looking at? Any sense of scale - is it huge like the original machine, or handheld? I'm betting Nina will come through at the end of the day having secretly stored tech or something using her resources from Massive Dynamic - not a solution, but probably one of the final pieces needed. Huh, also just had a thought - it would be nice if they could tie the tree-face recording people to the origin of the Observers somehow - after all both groups have an interest in history and major events, and it would give that episode a little more weight.
-
I don't know why progressives seem to fear the government controlling their lives when they are willing to give it more and more power. How much money can you make, what healthcare you're allowed to receive, how big your soda can be. A government big enough to give you everything is big enough to take everything away. Remember when it was cool to fight the man instead of relying on him for all your wants and needs.
-
If you go back you'll discover I settled on the 18-49 demo for broadcast shows long before I started doing the same for cable. I swear on my and Keith Olbermann's lives that my decision to follow that demo was made long ago and had nothing to do with making sport of Bill O'Reilly's ratings. Just go back and look at my earliest ratings stories. The fact that O'Reilly appeals to a tiny slice of the very, very elderly is just a happy coincidence. But I think the most amusing thing I discovered is "The Colbert Report" -- the show that mercilessly ridicules "The O'Reilly Factor" four nights a week -- routinely pulls double or triple the "O'Reilly Factor" audience in that key 18-49 demo. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/blogs/live-feed/fox-news-oldest-cable-audience-54230

Does Jay realize Bill Maher is a comedian? His job is to say inflammatory shit. Jay, turn off your television if your virgin ears are that sensitive...
by American Mythos
Were you this PC when Rush Limbaugh sang 'Barack the Magic Negro' on air? Or When he called Sandra Fluke a slut? Or when Laura Schlessinger went on an N-word rant against a black caller, also telling her not to marry out of her race? Or when Ann Coulter called Obama a retard and said her only regret about Timothy McVeigh was thay he didn't kill people in the New York Times building? Where was your faux outrage then?
-
Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love this show; however I've noticed that Bad Robot programs tend to do a really poor job with continuity. They routine introduce important character and plot elements, then drop them and never mention them again. For example: What are they doing with Olivia this season? She was trained from childhood to be a soldier in an interdimensional war - she's supposed to have powerful psychic abilities etc. but this season they've ignored all that. She seems to be strangely passive this year completely unlike the character they've created over 4 seasons. I don't understand how you can have a writing staff that large and no one brings up stuff like that - nor is it really ever addressed. The writing on "Fringe" is much, much, much more disciplined than the writing on say "Lost" - but when they ignore important elements of a character, it bothers me. I still love the show and I'll be sad to see it end.
-
Go back and watch the end of the season 4 finale (and, at the time, possible series finale). It is explained why Olivia is probably now "normal" after the traumas she has suffered, due to her levels of cortexiphan being fully depleted. They do leave the door cracked open that she might find remnants if her abilities left someday. This issue was addressed, not forgotten.
-
The milk chocolate messiah is going down, but the jew funded neo con warmonger Romney is not much better. What America needs is a political party that looks after the racial interests of the white middle class (keeping America a white majority country) while at the same time stopping the Jew banks blood sucking of the same white middle class. There is nothing on the political scene in America that fits that bill because both liberal and conservative Americans are retarded they just differ in the specifics of their retardation. Look to Greece and the Golden Dawn party for the future they are kicking out non-white immigrants as fast as they can defending western culture and telling the Jew banks to go to hell. Greece gave birth to Western civilization and Greece thru the Golden Dawn party may lead to the West's rebirth.

I have no idea what Jay said - but Maddow is almost as insufferable as Oberman and most of FOX
by FrodoFraggins
Long winded airbags are seldom entertaining.
-
More what I mean is just that the final season isn't handicapped by having to resolve all the alt universe, ZFT, David Robert Jones, WIlliam Bell, shape changer, cortexifam stuff I liken it to if LOST (which I am still a big fan of) had wrapped up everything on the island in season 5, and season 6 was just the flash-sideways purgatory stuff. Interesting and exciting in its own way, but most of our checklist of things we need addressed is already dealt with.
-
I think LOST (until season 5) definitely had stronger continuity than Fringe has. I love Fringe but its continuity has always been very fly by the seat of its pants, the latter half of season 4 did a lot to fix that with the reset timeline + bringing back a lot of elements from season 1. However I don't think its ever been something that has really hurt Fringe in a big way, what is enjoyable about it (for me anyways) has never really been specifically the continuity stuff. LOST relied on that a lot more, and while no show is perfect I think they got the continuity stuff right the vast majority of the time (again season 5 excluded where I think the writers got VERY sloppy or just stopped caring).
-
I wonder if anyone in history has tried that before????
-
Whenever I doubt my conservative leanings, a visit to the hate-filled, venom-spewing world of Matthews and Maddow quickly cures me.
-
Whatever you think of Maher, MSNBC, etc...there is NO greater source of hate and lies ("They didn't build that" referred to roads/bridges...NOT businesses) than Fox. But it's good for a laugh...like when the bimbo Kelly said she opposed marijuana legalization because then people would break into her home and hurt her kids, as they try to get money for weed) or the flustered Fox interviewer when he ask Chris Christie if he asked Romney to come to NJ after Sandy. (Didn't get the answer that Fox was hoping for.) Yes, Fox truly is for the elderly, senile, ignorant, uninformed...and just plain stupids out there.
-
yes, that's right. it's all obama's fault we're in this horrible mess. what about the jobs report that came out the other day. doesn't that prove things are getting better? you neocons always piont out the negative when it comes to obama, and never the positive
-
BO's "They didn't build that" is actually worse in context. Everyone gets the use of the roads that those who pay taxes have built (in case you wern't aware, the government builds nothing). It's what you do with those roads that count. You can start a business to create jobs at your own risk, drive to work, or drive to pick up your welfare check. The president plays to the masses for his own benefit.
-
a National Populist party sounds a lot better. Such a party would preserve the historic race-culture of America (White-Christian) and at the same protect the middle and working classes from Global multi-national corporations and jew banks. We are a loooong way from having a party like that, white conservatives have to first give up their moronic flag waving and war mongering and white liberals have to give up their hatred of their own race and historic religion, stop listening to jews white liberals they hate your guts as much as they hate the rednecks.

And how on earth can you disdain so a genius talent like David Letterman, so respected even by his fellow late-night competitors? It certainly puts your other comments in context. Do you think it odd that lefties love Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kid Rock despite their support of the Romney/Ryan ticket?
-
Or you really are a moron. Whether you consider Mahers statement funny or not, it was clear he was joking. Your first clue could be that he said this during his opening fucking monologue.
-
Look, jay is very insane and others are feeding it. Threats of policy mean nothing in less they are carried out. He is baiting you to pull the trigger and daring it. Out of the talk back, most posts are concerning him or his mental issues. I have been here for over ten years btw jay, but honestly I never needed to speak out on someone until I saw your hate and others that shared it or fed it. This is not politics with you, and the few others that are as foolish and hate mongers like you.. It's hate and stupidity. if you wish to post your venom.. Go to yahoo and chat on it.. Or the other 1000s of sites where this is normal or welcomed. This site is not home for it or even fitting for it. People come here not to deal with racist ignorance or spewing of hate.. Honestly, why are here at all Troll? Just go away or be silent. Herc...pull the trigger or rules mean nothing. Thank you.
-
You're right. I had forgotten about that. It still doesn't explain why her character is very passive - in stark contrast to previous seasons. Again though, these are pretty minor complaints - I still love the show. If I could, I would marry it. haha.
-
She actually burned out her powers in last seasons finale. But yeah I get what your talking about with them dropping storylines, (the mob going after Peter, Peters debt to Nina, the guy from the animated episode that was going to kill Olivia, etc) But you have to admitt that any mythology rich show like Lost of Fringe is going to be extremely difficult to make sure that everything lines up.

we have had twelve straight months of private sector job growth. since obama has taken office, employment HAS GROWN, NOT SHRUNK!!!

So is it socialist to pay for the military, fire department, police department, or schools with taxes? That's the same thing as paying for health care.

If you guys are this against government/taxes etc why vote for Romney, or any republican, or any politician at all??? Why not just overthrow the government
by Rebel Scumb
and live in a feudal system where corporations and rich land owners can govern based on wealth. Because even the most hard right politician you guys could find to get behind would not fit this mold you are striving towards if your logic is that paying taxes are evil and having essential services through government = communism

regarding Olivia this season, I see it partially because she burnt out the cortexifan in season 4, but also just that she has grown as a character she sort of accomplished her mission at the end of season 4, and wanted to have her family and settle down. Things didn't go as planned, she's now very much out of her element and shellshocked and I think she's just sort of still getting her bearings to how she is going to deal with all this I suppose the flipside is Peter has been really well handled in season5, where as I always felt he was sort of the weaklink of the main characters in most other episodes/seasons. Not terrible but just not as compelling or well defined as either walter or olivia or even astrid for that matter

The stone age tribes that were living in North America pre-1492 are not Americans they didn't call themselves Americans or had any concept of an 'America'. America was created at a certain point in time when white christian Europeans braved the Atlantic ocean and created America in the early 17th century. America will always be a white majority nation if the liberals and traitor capitalists get their way and make the United States a non-white majority entity then America will not have changed but will have ceased to exist like Rome or Babylon before it, that's why a right wing racial but left wing economic party needs to be formed to straighten out the mess we are in.
-
Thanks darthcroat. That's what you get when you decide to talk politics on a website with little to no moderation. John Birch's inbred uncle/cousin/ great great grandson will, eventually, raise their misshapen head, vomit out their malformed lizard brain response to the topic at hand, and then we are all dumber for having read it.

-
You nailed it regarding Olivia, Peter in season 5 etc. I felt the same way about Peter, the character is extremely likeable, is often the viewpoint into the Fringe verse, but was under-developed and sometimes a little lacking to the point where you'd ask "Why do I care about him?" But with the benefit of hindsight, and the parallels that season 5 is making of his messed up father/son relationship with Walter, it's becoming clear... maybe ... that he's becoming, and making the same mistakes as Walter, albeit in a different manner. I'm still not completely convinced by Asteroid's comfort level with being in the future however. I'd like to see that addressed, even briefly. Otherwise, how can there be payoff to her character's arc this season - whatever that may be.
-
If you read my first post I talked about the Greek political party the Golden Dawn how they were kicking out third world immigrants and giving the middle finger to jew bankers, obviously the 19th century kkk doesn't inspire me but instead the 21st century neo-fascist european right This country was founded by white men who wanted it stay white majority for all eternity, the huddled masses poem was written by the zionist jew emma lazarus who like most jews wanted a mongrel america but a racially pure israel which is what were getting now, I guess that's what happens when a particular tribe controls both the world's media and it's money supply.
-
Yeah I've been thinking that also, Peter if facing the same tests as walter did and hopefully he can learn from his Fathers mistakes, but he might have to go through a few hard knocks in order to do so. Although I'm betting that his becoming Observer like is going to be the only way to actually save things.
-
I have to admit you're right. I'm a Jew and I'm going to finally unburden my soul. We do control the banks and the media. We actually have these secret monthly meetings where we get our extra money for the month and we laugh at you - I mean you personally - I know your real name from my Jew Internet buddies - and we laugh about what a pathetic piece of shit you are and how you're powerless against us. And we do so much more than you can even imagine. For example - and this is just one of many I can give you - we have been watching for a long time because of your anti Zionist ways and when you were younger I banged your mother just put of spite - btw I got an extra 50k at that months meeting for being able to stay erect in her presence. Anyway good on you for figuring things out and remember we are constantly watching you.
-
I imagine you would agree with me that people like Darthcroat (who us Jews are watching as we speak) are pieces of shit - but look who he's voting for. Until the republican party pushes back at the religious right that has taken control of them and stops backing the batshit insane tea party candidates how can any rational thinking person vote their way? And please don't compare crazies - we simply do not have people like Bachman and Palin and Akin and rand Paul and Sharron angle in our party. Until the reps stop pretending that these people are worth listening to you're going to lose presidential elections.
-
That is exactly how I see it. When I look at footage of the republican rally's and I see a sea of wasps and white trash hillbillies, and you hear interview clips about how Obama is an 'israeli muslim' and planned 911 it tells me everything I need to know. The thing I always find most boggling is when conservatives talk about the 'liberal media' Now most of the media is controlled by wealthy conservatives, the ted turners and rupert murdochs of the world, but I think where this perception comes from (not surprisingly ignorant of how media works) is the very silly notion that because the movie stars and tv stars are the part of the media the audience sees, they some how control it or are the 'bosses' SO if they are thinking 'why are all the movie stars liberal???' which is really what they are saying when they talk about 'the liberal media' but for some reason the answer never occurs to them: actors are artists, who spend their days working with other artsy types, art by its nature is a progressive, open minded, imaginative, rebellious process. Sure there are a few token Clint Eastwoods and whatnot, but by and large most people in the arts are going to slant to the left, or even the far left. That's just the nature of artistic culture. WHich is why I'm always surprised on talkbacks when there are people who claim to love art, love scifi, etc yet are hard right neo-facists. It just boggles my mind that anyone can love one thing, but then support the group which is entirely dead set against it.
-
Agreed - why would I want to be a part of any group of people who don't believe science, dont respect statistical analysis, are anti arts, are racist and anti-gay. Stop pandering to that very vocal minority and we can talk. They all love Reagan but they fail to realize he would be turning over in his grave if he could see what has become of his party.
-
So, Peter has to build a cube, which FOR SOME REASON does not come assembled but is like one of those puzzle things you buy in joke shops. So he messes about with it and then eventually sort of reads the mind of an Observer to find out how it fits together. The Observers are moving something through time in big white canvas boxes, so Peter fires his thing-a-ma-bob into the portal but it doesn't work. Before that we have a badly shot fight scene with an Observer who can move super-fast and yet stands still long enough for Olivia to quip at him before shooting him dead. Then Astrid, who continues to be entirely unaffected by the fact that everyone she knows outside of work is dead, works out the secret to the Observer language (something that has no doubt stumped the smartest minds in the resistance for years) simply by "using more computers". Guess no one thought of that before. Still, at least Walter's ridiculous plan of storing elements of the way to destroy the Observers on seperate video tapes around the lab was ignored this week. We have lines of dialogue like "we need that cube to destroy the portal" delivered completely straight faced, and even a bit where Peter starts talking to the Observer by saying "You and I both know this... (but I need to explain it to the audience)". The scene where the Observer described humans assigning meaning to the meaningless was cool, and the performances from the main cast still elevate it, but the gaps in story logic are becoming too big to ignore. I miss the old Fringe where something nuts would happen, the gang would show up, Walter would do crazy experiments, Broyles would frown, Peter would roll his eyes and Olivia would be bad-ass. And Astrid would bring the coffee or whatever it is she does. This future-distopia Fringe is not quite working for me. Plus, the stories are becoming really small and contained because they simply do not have the budget to fully realise a future Observer-controlled world. Hopefully they find a way to come back in time before the end of the series.
-
Shouldn't run the country. I can love artist for their talent in expressing truths, but I don't want them running my business or country. Why do you think Liberal Arts Majors can't get a job? I don't hate someone for their progressive viewpoints, just disagree. Sorry to ruin any stereotypes you may have.
-
No I actually agree with you, I don't want an artist running a country, (we're too temperamental dammit!!) I just think conservatives shouldn't act so bewildered that artists typically lean left But it all comes back to something I've brought before of how odd it is that someone can be a fan of star trek or xmen, yet also still be a bigot.

Maher has a funny way of showing his "hatred" for women. He wants to ensure the access they desire for contraception and abortion. He sleeps with a lot of them. And I do mean a lot of them. He has them on his show every week Jay, you must either stop with this childish name-calling IMMEDIATELY or I will delete your account on Monday. Sigh..and yet you make my point for me jay. Just hate and excellent trolling. This place has become a hostil environment because of you. Ok. I'm done. Continuing your venom spewing...........now!

You say that Maher hates women like it's fact - that's stupid and beneath you Just because you say "that's how the right feels about lefties too" doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Bachmann, West, Paul, Akin, Angle and other tea party candidates are really fucking scary crazy. If people found Mahers words as incendiary as Richards they would have reacted in a similar fashion - but they didn't because it wasn't. Stop it. And Darthcroat is a fucking white power scumbag and the world would definitely be better off without him. I'm not denying him his hate speech (mongrel Jews and all that stuff) But to call him "interesting" makes me sick and I don't think that reflects well on you.
-
Most of my friends are conservatives as i'm sure most of Scumb's are progressive. I don't know any that are bigots. I believe it is typically the progressive who sees everything in terms of race. Does Scumb believe that every Rebublican and every conservative is a bigot? This once again shows how progressives sell themselves as open-minded, but are, in fact, only open-minded when someone totally agrees with their point of view.
-
*Jay, so if you hate Maher so much, why do you watch each week and devote HOURS of your time to discussing him??*--- so i know what im talking about. would u rather me NOT watch and be uninformed of his bigotry, racism, misogynism etc? how else am i gonna call him out, if i dont watch? *Surely you must have a better use for your time?*--- i sure do. im cooking up some homemade sketty and meatballs as i type. plus, his trash show is only on for an hour lol.
-
*Sigh..and yet you make my point for me jay. Just hate and excellent trolling. *You say that Maher hates women like it's fact - that's stupid and beneath you*-- no, its true. do u even watch his shit show? *Just because you say "that's how the right feels about lefties too" doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Bachmann, West, Paul, Akin, Angle and other tea party candidates are really fucking scary crazy.*--- and u the left has people that are *fucking scary* too. dont know why u ignore this or try to dismiss it. *If people found Mahers words as incendiary as Richards they would have reacted in a similar fashion - but they didn't because it wasn't. Stop it.*--- thats because they ACCEPT and ENDORSE it. progressives and dems are the biggest bigots and racists in America. its sad, really. *And Darthcroat is a fucking white power scumbag and the world would definitely be better off without him. I'm not denying him his hate speech (mongrel Jews and all that stuff) But to call him "interesting" makes me sick and I don't think that reflects well on you.*--- i guess u ignored the quotation marks i put around *interesting*? and i guess sarcasm is a second language? i dont endorse what he says, didnt think i had to say i didnt. my bad, sorry.
-
*Maher has a funny way of showing his "hatred" for women. *--- no, actually he doesnt. from calling women cunts and twats to beating them, hes pretty open about it. *He wants to ensure the access they desire for contraception and abortion.*--- SO? that doesnt prove hatred nor support for women. thats just his opinion on a subject. jeez man! *He sleeps with a lot of them. And I do mean a lot of them.*--- i do too, but if i beat the hell out of one (or many) or call them cunts and twats cause they disagree with me, then...that would be some warning signs, i believe. *He has them on his show every week*--- again, SO??? by that wonderful logic, Fox CANT be racist because they have black people as guests, right?? good lord LOL!!! *Jay, you must either stop with this childish name-calling IMMEDIATELY or I will delete your account on Monday. This will deprive you of complaining here on Tuesday about how the election was fixed.*--- what name calling? are u talking about the mentally inferior (i can provide examples) maddow or are u inferring to tb'ers or you personally? be more specific, please. BTW- the election most DEF. will be fixed. when the dems support voter fraud, every election is a *toss up*.
-
Maher has never beaten a woman and he doesn't hate them. They seem to be cool with him too. Yes I watch the show and I never hear him say "I hate women" and he has them on his panel all the time. Just because you have an opinion about someone you've never met means that it's true. I didn't believe kanye when he said Bush doesn't like black people either. Who on the left is as crazy as Bachman, Christine o'donnell, Angle, west, etc. These people incite their followers by leading them to believe that Obama is a Muslim from kenya, that the jury is still out on climate change or it's a hoax, that America is a Christian nation, that god wants rape babies.
-
What are you talking about? If Bill Maher beat a woman (or anybody), why isn't he in jail? Or at least fired? This is how HBO deals with employees who beat women: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/10/technology/10iht-hbo.1.5646579.html?_r=0 Note that I have not called you names like "pig," "hack," "racist," "dullard" or "mentally inferior." See if you can manage a similar civility in future posts or brace for a nasty surprise when you try to log on Tuesday morning.

How about the glorious leaders of the democratic party? I agree that some of the people that amfpsych notes say things that I am not comfortable with. However, at least they haven't been elected as leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. If you take the time to research some of the things they've said it's pretty incredible. One of my favorites is that we have to pass the healthcare bill to find out what's in it. I believe these guys are far more dangerous than any noted by amfpsych.
-
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/crime/bill-maher-hit-palimony-suit *Yes I watch the show and I never hear him say "I hate women" and he has them on his panel all the time.*--- so calling women twats and cunts is NOT misogynistic? and why does he refer to just women in these term? cunts and twats are derogatory term to JUST women. why not call them assholes? and i guess calling a black person the n word is non racist? get a grip, man. *Who on the left is as crazy as Bachman, Christine o'donnell, Angle, west, etc. These people incite their followers by leading them to believe that Obama is a Muslim from kenya, that the jury is still out on climate change or it's a hoax, that America is a Christian nation, that god wants rape babies.*--- allan grayson, barney frank, nancy pelosi are great examples. and America IS a Christian nation, its what it was founded on. doesnt mean it discriminates against anyone else. thats what is great about America. if u want to split hairs on oblamya, he himself cast doubt that he was not an American citizen. climate change is just a theory, as is all science. its just a hypothesis. and who said God wants to rape babies? u ok, dude?

I'm glad you are defending the tea party candidates - because the truth of the matter is that until the republicans distance themselves from the batshit insane fringe that has hijacked them they will never win another presidential election. Think about this - of all the people on these boards that spout true hate speech, writing about white supremacy and shooting people in the streets, I can't remember a single one that was not promoting a republican.
-
I have to say that while I don't always agree with Jays methods if hes the definition of someone who is breaking the rules and might deserve to be banned, theres a number of other individuals who are just as rude on a consistant basis. Individuals who will call you names just because you state a conservative opinion and rather then give out a valid counter they resort to name calling. So Herc if your going to ban Jay, you also have to start banning some of the liberals who are acting like schoolyard bullys, otherwise your being hypocritical.
-
Read the story to which you linked. Nothing about Bill Maher beating a woman. In future, you can say Maher "hates women" because he is alleged to have shaken a girlfriend at a party. In my view, the term "hates women" might better be applied to a fellow who seeks to force a rape victim to seek a dangerous back-alley abortion.
-
I know, right?! I took Jay-bell to school on that one a few months ago. Classic case of a Newsbuster-ninnie scouring the internet, looking for any kind of dirt with which to smear Bill Maher. (Because, apparently, he's some sort of grand liberal gate keeper, don't you know...) Nevermind the fact that the suit was was summarily thrown out by the court and no further allegations have been made by anyone. The best part? Watching Jay-bell make his slanderous attacks on Bill Maher whilst simultaneously defending Herman Cain...a guy who got caught dead-to-rights thanks to those little, ever-so-bothersome things known as phone numbers.
-
...then why do so many women appear on his show? What does Ann Coulter or Christine O'Donnell know and like about Bill that Jay does not?
-
*I'm glad you are defending the tea party candidates -*--- when have i? *because the truth of the matter is that until the republicans distance themselves from the batshit insane fringe that has hijacked them they will never win another presidential election.*--- AGAIN, u make my point. the *left* is just as crazy as the *right*. *Think about this - of all the people on these boards that spout true hate speech, writing about white supremacy and shooting people in the streets, I can't remember a single one that was not promoting a republican.*--- care to provide examples?? i dont remember any on here. ur lost, doode.

Would you say that person hates men? I didn't think so. I've always considered the word "cunt" the equivalent of "dick," and thus have used it quite frequently in disparaging people (including males). A lot of people, including many females, probably would not agree that "cunt" is no more inflammatory than "dick," but fuck 'em. Turnabout is fair play, and I say that as an unabashed liberal. It's just another form of gender equality, in my opinion, so I'm not going to be any less crude in applying my sexual epithets to females than to males. Maher doesn't play favorites, either, which is probably why partisans like Jay hate him so much. Regardless, I find Jay and his ilk fascinating. It boggles my mind that he and I apparently enjoy the same "geek culture" even though there is a huge gulf between our respective values systems. I guess that could either be a testament to how universal literary/film/etc. themes are, or that they're just so superficial that anyone can appreciate them. I'm not sure which ...
-
*What are you talking about?*--- stuff? *If Bill Maher beat a woman (or anybody), why isn't he in jail? A dismissal by the court is NOT a settlement.

You're right - the left has tons of candidates that are as crazy as the tea party candidates - that's why Romney is going to win tomorrow. But if he doesn't please don't start thinking there's something wrong with the religious right taking over the party - you guys clearly are on the right track and there's no need to change a thing. See ya Wednesday so I can hear you blame Sandy.

Your trying to talk facts to a guy that has no interest in letting them get in the way of what he believes.

Remember, they consider us as flies. The resistance's machinations probably don't impress them much.

Oh, yes. The epistemic closure is particularly strong with ol' Jay. Just look at the way he has responded to you; he is a master of projection, slander, and deflection.
-
*I know, right?! I took Jay-bell to school on that one a few months ago.*--- in ur warped progressive mind maybe. uve never taken me to school on anything. quite the opposite. *The best part? What does Ann Coulter or Christine O'Donnell know and like about Bill that Jay does not?*--- why do they go on CNN, FNC, MSNBC etc??? for exposure, u idiot. quit being willfully obtuse. *Your trying to talk facts to a guy that has no interest in letting them get in the way of what he believes.*--- i post nothing but facts. *Oh, yes. The epistemic closure is particularly strong with ol' Jay. Just look at the way he has responded to you; he is a master of projection, slander, and deflection.*--- i *project* facts and have slandered no one nor deflected from anything. u lose again :(
-
*Would you say that person hates men? I didn't think so.*--- its not the same and u know it. quit lying. *Maher doesn't play favorites, either, which is probably why partisans like Jay hate him so much*--- really? his rants are 99% against conservatives, religion and republicans. id say that is def. *playing a favorite*. of course, u agree with his filth, so im not surprised. and, AGAIN, i hate no one. why continue this lie?? *Regardless, I find Jay and his ilk fascinating*--- right back at u buddy.
-
* But if he doesn't please don't start thinking there's something wrong with the religious right taking over the party - you guys clearly are on the right track and there's no need to change a thing.*--- no one is *taking over* anything. just because republicans value and respect religion, doesnt mean its *taking over*. *See ya Wednesday so I can hear you blame Sandy.*--- no, im more worried about voter fraud and progressives voting more than once. THAT is scary. *Your trying to talk facts to a guy that has no interest in letting them get in the way of what he believes.*--- like i have stated, i post nothing but facts. u just choose to ignore them :(

So, like, there I was watching Fringe and all the Observers and I thought "Where are all the Observer chicks?" Origin Story, indeed, a Super Peter origin story at that. The wormhole starting up again was great, showed that the Fringe team just don't think 4 dimensionally! Sure black hole damaged the Observer time for decades, but all they had to do was retarget the delivery all those years later to the same time period in the past and the nefarious deliveries continue... Peter goes bad ass, can't wait to see what happens next!

Fringe really does deserve it's own talkback. It's a shame you have to wade through political nonsense.
by Cotton_Mcknight
Oh well, I'm not in charge. If I was though, I would isolate Bill Maher/other political shows to their own talkback, because I would have the common sense to know that the discussions that follow would drown out every other conversation that people were trying to have.
-
September already told them that observers can cross timelines, travel through time... so why would they bother with all this trouble and resistance in this one particular timeline? The only reason I can think of would be that either there are a finite amount of timelines, and they've used the rest up, or they have to use this timeline in order to ensure the creation of their progenitor: Peter as observer #1.
-
So can't wait for the end of it. Thought AICN was about popular culture, Then again , I'm a Canadian so what do I know. I think the line from the Observer to Peter about the skies blackness was one of the best I've ever heard in terms of a show conveying menace.

Quote: in ur warped progressive mind maybe. uve never taken me to school on anything. quite the opposite. You're right...it was more like the woodshed. Yes, I took you to the woodshed on several occassions. There is no shame in admitting your defeat, Jay. The AICN community will understand. Quote: when have i defended Cain? and what does Cain being smeared have to do with maher beating a woman?? why do u people continue to lie about me? anyway, funny how those *women* suddenly are quiet....funny indeed. Are you being serious with this??? Must we make a journey back to those Talkbacks where I bitch-slapped you for your pathetic Herman Cain excuses? Oh dear, you're even more delusional than I thought. But the real question is: WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO LIE??? Maher didn't beat a woman and you have NO EVIDENCE whatsoever to back-up that accusation. This is textbook projection and slander, Jay. Simple as that. The women who stepped forward to speak against Herman Cain did so because their cases were already documented. Not only did they prove that the man has a record of behavior, he was caught red-handed thanks to his carelessness with his phone number. Why else do you think he ended his primary run? And why is it funny that the women are quiet? Are they supposed to be doing some sort of Palinesque milk-it-for-all-it's-worth book tour replete with appearances on The View? Quote: BTW- why is everything a zero sum game with u progressives? This question/statement is just plain stupid. Quote: why do they go on CNN, FNC, MSNBC etc??? for exposure, u idiot. Really? They're willing to hug and kiss Bill Maher (aka Jay's Woman Hater) and say how happy they are to be on his show just for exposure? You mean, there's not another more simpathetic venue for them to get said exposure? That's pretty weak sauce, Jay. Yet another piss-poor projection of implied intentions. Quote: quit being willfully obtuse. Shall we find you yet another mirror to look in? Quote: i post nothing but facts. You're a liar. Quote: i *project* facts and have slandered no one nor deflected from anything. u lose again :( No, you project assumptions and supposition. You use these to slander anyone you perceive to be Democrat/Liberal/Progressive/Libertarian/Moderate. For you, there is no center; no sense of pragmatism...only Right and Left. Let's not mince words here, Jay. The loser is you. Over and over and over again. It's you. :)

I think the only way the Fringe team can win is to completely destroy the Observers.
by Cotton_Mcknight
As in, wipe them from existence. Otherwise, you are right, they can just go back in time and start over in another period, or learn what the Fringe team did, backtrack, and stop them. I honestly don't know how else they can beat them. That said, the Peter being Observer number 1 idea, although paradoxical, is intriguing.
-
How does that come into play? William Bell was working on ways to defeat them years before they showed up- remember that "devil's trap" (Supernatural reference) that Aussie woman used for September in the season finale last year? I was kind of surprised that they didn't use that in the interrogation sequence last week.

Jay2516, what are you going to do when your fantasy world comes crashing down to reality? BWAHAHA!
by uberfreak
-
You state that you only express facts but when you say Maher beats women - that is devoid of fact. The fact (and you know this) is that one ex gf made a claim and it was thrown out of court - thyou didn't state a fact as much as you committed libel.

Jay, even Coughlins (Mr. Romney Landslide) went incognito in the face of the growing reality of tomorrow's election. Can't you do the same?

MNG- yea, im sure in ur twisted little world ur a *winner*, but reality shows different...
by jay2517
...keep lying and projecting. thats all ur good for, it seems. cant wait till the next round from u. it really is amusing to read :)
-
...not only has he been accused of beating his gf and saying racist things to her, he also calls women cunts, twats and makes fun of their looks. if u want to ignore all these examples of his misogyny, then more power to u. whats it like going through life with blinders on?
-
what the hell are u talking about? i dont give a shit what u think is going to happen tomm. what does that have to do with me posting here? ur a weird fella.
-
You're being disingenuous - I'm not talking about Maher's love or hate of women. I'm just saying you aren't stating fact (as you say you're a bastion of) when you keep writing about maher beating women.

Saves us all a lot of time...

Jay2515, you are getting railed mightily in the pooper here and without lube I might add. You are one sick fuck. BWAHAHA!

Unless they did, lost in all the political bullshit. This whole Peter as Observer one thing reminded me of the "Replacement Peter Auditions" they showed at SDCC after Peter disappeared, ultimately showing Jackson in observer makeup: http://sookiestackhouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/peter-the-observer.jpg Foreshadowing?

Talk about shuck n' jive, man!
-
Breitbart, Gingrich, Morris, Limbaugh - these people lied to you - they created a fictitious world and if I were you I'd be upset with them. And I would wonder in what other ways are they distorting the truth.
-
... but it looks like this TB is deader than original Charlie Francis. Any chance of a Fringe Talkback for tomorrow's episode? So we don't have to wade through the political garbage.
