John Ary here with a quick look at a few action figure lines making headlines this week. As always click on the photos for an embiggened pic and for more information follow the pre-order links...
Major Bludd from Sideshow Collectibles

Tactician, war criminal, mercenary, murderer… all words to describe Cobra’s most notorious major. Sideshow Collectibles has announced this new 12-inch version of Major Bludd, complete with weaponry and a detailed costume. The figure will include a removable helmet, heavy armor chest plate, cybernetic arm with articulated fingers, a multi-barreled sabot rail gun with three darts, a harness to store 4 additional darts, sub-machine gun with four magazines, a .50 caliber revlover, dog tags, combat boots with knife and a sheath. The Sideshow exclusive version will also feature an alternate head with a scarred eye and clip-on augmented optical unit. It will release in June or you can pre-order him here.
Ada Wong from Hot Toys

Capcom introduced Miss Wong in Resident Evil 2 as a supporting character. Now she’s getting her very own 1/6 scale action figure from Hot Toys. Ada will feature a TrueType body with more than 25 points of articulation, 7 interchangeable hands, a scarf, 1 pair of high heels, a red qipao, shotgun, machine gun, punisher with holster and thigh straps, a wire gun with hooks, crossbow, dagger, sunglasses, cell phone with holder, briefcase and figure stand. Look for this anti-heroine to release in March or you can pre-order her here.
Marvel Universe Wave 20 from Hasbro
It looks like three Marvel characters will join the 3.75-inch action figure lineup this winter. Professor X, Jubilee and 2 variants of Blastaar (regular or a poseable clear 'blasting' forearm/hand version) will join Psylocke, Incredible Hulk, Beta Ray Bill, Spider-Man Unlimited, Shattered Dimension Spider-Man and Silver Surfer on the toy pegs at your local retailer in January or you can pre-order the entire wave here.
Play Arts Kai Raiden from Square Enix

From the upcoming game Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance… wait… is Revengeance even a real word? Annnnnnnnnyway, the half-man, half-machine protagonist will get the Play Arts Kai treatment complete with multiple points of articulation, a sword, knife, three throwing knives, two sets of hands and more. Look for him to release in February.
Michael Knight from Diamond Select Toys
The Hoff will soon get a new action figure. Diamond Select Toys plans to release an 8-inch version of K.I.T.T.’s best buddy, complete with a cloth costume, multiple points of articulation and deluxe collector packaging. He should arrive this in April or you can pre-order him here. And finally this week, Patrick Boivin, the king of 1/6 scale stop-motion animation, has a new video. Here's his latest commercial starring Cuba's greatest superhero that also happens to be sponsored by a liquor company. Why am I suddenly in the mood for a mojito?
That's it this week. Be sure to follow my toy blog ArticulationTimes.com on Twitter and Facebook and subscribe to the AICN Youtube channel.

Remember Major Bloods straight left arm with a circle for his hand.

So what you're saying is that it looks exactly like David Hasselhoff? I want to know if there's a variant version that comes with a half-eaten cheeseburger from Wendy's.

Why did they make the legs on Professor X functional? www.nonipplesonthesuit.com

He's been able to walk a number of times in the comics, usually they break them again eventually, but there has been a number of times.

What's with those ridiculous action figures where the clothes are made of cloth? The David Hasslehoff one here, for example, but there's also a bunch of James Bond ones and others. They look like dollies that are wearing snowsuits that are too big for them. To whom does this look appeal?

I'm pretty sure I saw one at my local comic shop just this morning.

they are done to resemble the 70s Mego figures/dolls. Yes, toy companies are intentionally making things shittier to appeal to peoples weak nostalgia. Half the time, they do it to properties that don't make sense (aka, properties that aren't from the 70s or early 80s). The only people who buy them are those who really really want a Michael Knight figure but cant get one better than this....

Poor Argument. Obviously, from the looks of that Major Bludd
by Bedknobs and Boomsticks
and the anniversary line of ARAH from a few years ago, the figures made to appeal to nostalgia improve upon the originals. The Matty Collector MOTU line is another example. Also, it wasn't incongruous to offer The Venture Bros. in a Mego-style, as the show takes it's inspiration, design, and milieu straight from 60's and 70's (and some 80's) cartoons and comics.
