From Django To Electro?

Nordling here.
Well, at least it sticks to the rhyme scheme. According to Variety, Jamie Foxx is in talks to play Spidey villain Electro for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, or whatever it winds up being called. I'm very curious to see how Foxx is in DJANGO UNCHAINED, but it seems obvious now that this is a new stage in his acting career, and a big tentpole like THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 will be just the ticket.
Electro has always been a favorite in Spider-Man's rogue's gallery, and I'm happy to see them bring that character back, but I've always thought Electro was a bit of a thug, and not very challenging to Spider-Man on an intelligence level. Really wish they'd introduce Kraven The hunter, my favorite Spidey villain and one who I think done right can really be impressive onscreen. But I like that Foxx is up for this, and hopefully he will sign on the line that is dotted. At least that's one villain we know about for the movie.

Have you ever read the really early Lee/Ditko ASM issues? Spidey was more of a sick than a wise-cracker... Just sayin'

Dick not sick Stupid autocorrect.

...I can see the writers playing him up as a sort of evil mirror image of Peter, which in a way he is (normal guy granted powers by circumstance), and Jamie has chops enough to pull that off. That said, I really want to know what his costume will look like...

Really, you want a villian who talks to himself about his schemes. So lame and cliche. All of those original movies sucked. The new one had way better characterization, though it did feel made for tv at times.

Watched it recently, couldn't believe all the stuff that was in the trailer and not in the movie. It bored me to tears, anyway. I would be cool with that Kraven story they did with Vermin but Spidey is in the ground for most of that so it won't happen. Also, Ryan Gosling would be a better choice for Electro. Foxx is probably going to be hamming it up big Willie style.

Electro could be cool, I guess. But I agree he always seemed more of a hired thug without appropriately grandiose schemes. How bout Electro running wild under the direction of the Kingpin? After 4 movies, the biggest baddy in the city still has not shown his face. He could at least play a part pulling strings behind the scenes.

How long before the first "Elecbro" comment? Oh, that might've been it. My bad.
-
Its practically impossible to judge whether or not this would be "good" casting, because Electro is a character that is wide open to interpretation(he's had multiple takes on his origin, and he's never really had a "defining" story arc or big moment in the comics). He's a villain that the writers can pretty much build from scratch, with the only caveat being that he has electrical powers. I think there is potential there, especially if they utilize some of the features that James Cameron had written into his quasi-Electro villain, "Carlton Strand"... ie: the ability to absorb/erase/manipulate digital information from hard drives and computer mainframes simply by touching them. You could even go as far as playing him as an anarchist threatening to wipe out the country's credit card debts, Tyler Durden style. Either way, Foxx has the chops. And if that's the caliber of actor they're looking for in Electro, it seems to me that he's going to be the main villain for sure... which is a good thing: save the Goblin for part 3.

I don't like Foxx for this franchise, though at least he can act. I'll still hold out hope they cast someone else for Electro.
-
I think Foxx just threw everyone a red herring. Electro he is not.
-
Its like if ryan reynolds played the black panther or Stone cold steve plays luke cage or jackie chan playing sherlock holmes, there would be uproar about that too. Its nothing more than knee jerk reactions like when Michael Clarke Duncan played kingpin, yet it worked although we would have all preferred it if it was the proper comic book kingpin
-
It seems like all the people who say ASM sucked list lots of reasons why.....and the people who say it was awsome just say "It was awsome!!" and nothing else. What does that mean?
-
I don't care if they want to alter the race of the character, but... Jamie Foxx??? How about Kevin Bacon? That dude's got Electro all over him. Or maybe Stephen Colbert? How awesome would that be?

These seem like dumb choices. Big dumb bad guys with zero dimension or complexity. And I'm not a fan of the first film.
-
The Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom, Carnage, The Kingpin and I'd say the Lizard too are all great villains. After those, however, there's not much left in the Spider-Man universe that's of much interest. We're kind of going into lame territory now with Electro. The likes of Shocker, The Vulture, Mysterio and Rhino are just too uninteresting to me. I'd rather they either came up with something new or re-use ones that were done in the Raimi series. This is a reboot afterall and it didn't hurt The Dark Knight using The Joker again.
-
It was how the character was written in the film that was the problemas he was the Dr Connors from the comic book the closest we got was in Raimis films and he was just a kind of cameo
-
WE NEED MORE CRANES!

They were in the same preschool, together struggling with daddy issues. The link between them is that Curt Conners dated Electro's mom while she worked for Oscorp, not guessing that Peter Parker's dad's brother is actually Electro's Father! The technology that gave the spiders bite-power came from the same energy source that caused Electro's mutation!

Jamie Foxx as Electro? Why not cast Liam Hemsworth? Or David Bowie? Or Scott Bakula? Or some other white guy...

They'd be horrible in the part, but as a white supremacist they make me feel a lot more comfortable looking at the screen. Seriously, AICN Talkback. You're hilarious.
-
The last one was shite , despite Andrew garfield and Emma Stone. Conspiracy theories my arse.
-
Sometimes it's simply a matter of people not caring to see something change. Fans can be funny about stuff like that. They don't like seeing radical changes to a character or a costume and changing a character from white to black is a significant alteration. I'm not happy that The Mandarin isn't going to be Chinese. Does that make me racist? When Kingpin was played by Michael Clark Duncan I was apprehensive but interested because literally apart from his being a different race he was one of the few actors who could physically take on the role and they really didn't change the character that much. I think was a success. I think with Electro nobody cares enough to make much of an issue of it but the people who do might just be folks who don't like their comic book characters tinkered with. They're not all racists. Some of them are just obsessive-compulsive nerds.
-
There are two black actors I'd rather stay as far away as possible from my comic book movies and they are Will Smith and Jamie Foxx. Both of them are (oddly) both entertaining and nearly unwatchable to me. Just can't stand to sit through two hours of anything these two are in.
-
Electro has one of the worst super-villain costume and mask of all time. Shocker's was much cooler and even his name is better
-
um, lets look at wall street...and the senate...and congress...whoever runs corporate america...and your mother, dandelien (who can't even spell his own name)...
-
amazing spiderman awful and boring. boring and awful. nothing good about it. Nothing. It was really boring. Am I making this clear here. It's awful.
-
JF is a solid actor (and pretty damn funny too) but as Electro? Hmm...just might work. Oh...and The Amazing Spiderman was at least as good as anything from the original trilology, if not better. I liked the originals' cast just fine but Garfield fits the Parker/Spiderman character a bit better.
-
They should really get a white guy to play him ala classic comics.....but thats just me, Ive always seen him as sleazy skinny white guy, not a beefy Jamie Foxx. Amazing Spiderman was kinda shit at times with moments of brilliance. Disney/Marvel should just buy their damn franchises back and let their team do the work. Sometimes classical archetypes and respect for source material are just better. If not, why even fucking do it at all? Just do something else with Jamie as a superhero.
-
Foxx comes across as that cocky fuck who just loves himself. Who the Hell changes their name to Foxx anyway? I despise that kind of arrogance. I get this odd feeling that Foxx in this movie would sort of be like Nicholson overshadowing Keaton in Batman...which, as good as the Joker was, was a huge mistake. Foxx may not be as iconic and as powerful in Hollywood as Jack, but I think he's a gloryhound seeking the limelight as much as he can.
-
It's Electro, you prick.

The Raimi were flawed, very flawed, but were still more entertaining than ASM. Personally I want Marvel studies to get Spiderman and do him right, like they did Stark, Thor, Cap, Hulk. It'll be that stupid Ultimate Spiderman comics version of Electro costume
by Detective_Fingerling
Bald, black with a one piece black onesie with a lightning bolt cut into the neck part. You'd think when an artist has license to re-envision classic villain's costumes from scratch (Ultimate universe) that they'd create kick ass variants of the classics. Instead, they're all pretty much black and boring. Can't wait for the Green Goblin in part 3 to look like a fuming Abomination clone.

Please stop using the phrase "Sign on the line that is dotted", AICN Staff. In other news leaves Jamie Fox as Electro, leaves me feeling non-plussed. But I should probably see the Amazing Spider-Man first...

This guy can generate unlimited amounts of electricity right? And what major cities or country can never have enough cheap, ready electricity? Sooo, sell Electro why don't you rent yourself out to those who can afford your price instead of pursuing a life of petty crime? The Amazing Spider-Man, I'm really sorry I didn't go to see it on the big screen as it it is the second best comic adaptation this year (first being Avengers). I don't even like Spider-Man all that much but this actually rang Batman Begins type bells. MUCH better than TDKR and I honestly think that Raimi fans need to get it together, as good as the first two where this one got it right.

Stunt casting and a boring, 1-dimensional villain. Great way to get the franchise moving.
by kevred
Really, what does this iteration of Spidey have going for it besides the novelty that was only good for one film? Is anyone in the universe really dying to know what happens to this Spidey next? This series can only be described as an "equation" series. No one asked for this reboot, and no one really cares about it. It came and went and caused no sensation at all. But Hollywood has calculated what they need to do to make X amount of money with X ingredients, and since Spidey is a known quantity, the equation is reliable. Churn 'em out, keep the rights to the character, rinse and repeat. So this zombified corpse of what used to be genuinely exciting for the masses is now just another one-week splash at the box office, nose-diving toward Fantastic Four film territory, plummeting out of sight below the rarefied air of Avengers, Batman, and maybe soon X-Men again. In short, they've made Spidey ordinary. What a screw-up.

thulsaboom: the 1990-2000 Wesley Snipes, hell yes. The 2012 Wesley Snipes...I dunno...
by Bill C.
Then again, he could probably pull off a somewhat more world-weary twist on it...wasn't the guy supposed to be borrowing money from criminals and such before he got his powers?
-
By that, I mean he's the most visually uninteresting villain in Spidey's rogue's gallery as far as movies are concerned. What are we going to see that we haven't already seen before? A bad guy that shoots electricity? And this will be different from The Emperor or Count Dooku? Doctor Doom? Raiden in Big Trouble in Little China? EVERY other movie where someone has the power of electricity or lightning?
-
ASM is so rife with Joker killed his parents moments I could punch a baby. It is Spidey in name only. Sure Raimi may not be for everyone but ASM reminded me huge of Halle Barry's Catwoman due to the amount shit getting thrown around to see what would stick. Not to mention ASM is the worst offender for keeping the mask on. I thought Spidey having a secret identity was literally pointless by the after credit scene. I could go on all day about how much ASM bugged me. Don't get me started on TDKR.
-
Does him being White define his character? I do remember Daredevil I remember MCD being the only redeeming quality about that movie. There was NO white actor of the stature needed and had the acting chops to pull it off. The most important is to make Elctro a compelling character. I dont men to Poop on any Electro fans, but he's not what anyone would consider a heavy hitter, which Is probably why they will retool his origin.

by Phategod2
Most of us were up for it. because No one thought RDJ would even do a movie like that. Again what difference does Electro being White affect him a character in any way? I don't think so unless he some type of german Nazi experiment, Which he might as well might have been, I do believe his origin is tied into the Red Skull.
-
Honesty what difference does it make?? It's not like Electro's race ever constituted an integral part of his identity... He's really just a one-dimensional villain so I'm all for seeing what Foxx could do with the role.
-
Seriously, in a summer that had the Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises does anyone even remember or care about The Amazing Spider-Man? I'm still waiting for that perfect Spider-Man movie, in the vein of Batman Begins, which Marc Forster's movie was clearly trying to be, but fell far short. Nothing against Andrew Garfield or Emma Stone, but I was seriously bored throughout that entire movie. I never wanted to know the "untold story" of Spider-Man. Just a ridiculous approach to take with this character. Raimi's version, while certainly flawed, at least managed to keep me entertained. I can't comment on Spider-Man 3. Never finished it.
-
I think Spiderman is tied with Batman having the greatest Rouges gallery. And saying Kraven is you're favorite is like saying Firefly is you're favortie batman villan. Generally, I'm all for people having different taste but really? He's a hunter. That's it. A Russian hunter. Green Goblin probably the best comic book villain ever. He's half Lex Luthor half Joker(with better toys /color scheme) and in a way the closest thing we've seen to an evil batman. Dr.Octopus a badass mad scientist with robotic arms. Venom granted he lost his luster with really bad writing and no one knowing what to do with him.But he was a badass palete swap for a while. Solid b list villains like mystero,Hobgoblin,Scorpion,Jackel, Sandman,Vulture, ect ect. But none of them you go with the deadliest game ripoff. Serious?
-
Those posting any positive comments are either brain dead retards or work for the studio. Lizard was ruined. The plot made no fucking sense and they turned Peter Parker into a total fucking asshole. The movie was just fucking terrible. I can see like hipster teens liking it because Peter skate boards and hates authority but anyone older than 17 liking this is beyond pathetic. The sequel has so much work to do to make up for this. I mean seriously Spider-man has been taken down a notch. I'd say right now Iron Man is more popular due to the reboot. Jamie Foxx is a solid actor. I doubt this story is true though. And maybe this was just leaked bull shit because the Green Goblin should be the villain in the sequel.

They'll save Kraven (and maybe Vulture) for the 3rd Flick
by Chewbacca_Khan
Kraven should have been in the first Spider-Man 3 instead of Venom. It could have been that series Dark Knight, with Spidey forced to think about what his presence brings down on those around him. Now they'll do that with the 3rd in this series, and it won't be as successful as it would have after the greatness of Molina in Spidey 2 and the general positive feeling fans had then.
-
integral to the story, considering that LUKE CAGE: HERO FOR HIRE initially was Marvel's jumping on the whole 70's Blaxploitation Craze...So spare us your angry DISENFRANCHISED WHITE MALE act.
-
Electro sucks. They won't do Kraven's Last Hunt. Can't do Carnage without Venom unless they do something weird and lame to get the spawned symbiote. I suppose Kingpin or Vulture could be cool but it's like... there's better options so why not go with those? It's frustrating that the pacing and build up of the Avengers heroes was really great and they can't seem to figure it out for Spidey.

Taking Electro for ASM2 is like taking Firefly or Killer Moth for the next Batman.
by MariusXe
They should've gone big. Kraven, Goblin (in a really cool amd creepy vein) or Venom.
-
He's a huge prick IRL. Detestable human being. I was looking forward to Spiderman 2 but I don't want to put a single dollar in that shitheal's pockets.
-
Kraven is one of the few villains who ever actually defeated Spider-Man *entirely*.
-
Kraven shows up in NYC to hunt the Lizard-Man of the sewers, and Spider-Man has to stop him bc Doc Connors is a friend. Spidey gets in the way, Lizard attacks him, Kraven decides to go after Spidey... Spidey stuck in the middle... Best possible story. And of course Sony fucked it up. Of course, with The Liz still being alive, they could always do that in a sequel.

by ChiefRoberts
"Costume fits well." Hmmmm, time will tell. The Ultimate Electro costume is boring. I hope they brighten it up a LOT!
-
None of the Sinister Six can hold being a solo villian. Spiderman whoops them individually all the time. That's why they group together.Plus, they have all been used sans Mysterio. They should have Osborn hire thugs to volunteer to capture Spiderman. 3 answer and get get suped up with Osborn juice and armor. The 3 are Rhino, Scorpion and Chameleon. Big battle, Osborn loses his marbles after Capt. Stacy helps Spiderman trick the goons into a trap. Osborn goes mental and does the juice himself. Last shot is a silouette of Goblin on the glider looking in at Gwen and a cackling laugh...part 3 is all Goblin. End it . Sell the rights back to Disney wait 5 years then do it right.

Horrible first film, horrible sequel. Makes sense. You people who praise this crap are goons.
by Behemoth
Seriously, I read comments saying this was "best film of the year" and "perfect." You imbeciles suck skank taint. Seriously. Your right to an opinion should be immediately revoked. Yellow eyes. Boring villain. Terrible action. Mask comes off every five seconds. And now this news. How they hell are they going to do justice to Electro? No one can get this franchise right. I was excited to see Macguire and Raimi get shit-canned. Oh, and Dunst, too. But these films suck just as much Jezebel schlong. Horrible, horrible movie that can only be praised by horrible, horrible people with half a working synapse. Go lick fecal resin off a newborn yetti, you disgusting freaks.

All the morons complaining about white-to-black character changes...
by Mojo-Wan
Notice the only black character you can come up with is Luke Cage? Yeah. This country and this genre did not come into being in 1990. Comics are almose 80 years old as a concept, and much like cinema over the majority of that time has limited the vast majority of those characters to whites of non-hispanic decent. Hard to even find an Italian in there. One of you idiots is even trying to cast Jamie Foxx as Black Dynamite instead... Hey, Genius, Black Dynamite was a live action movie about four years ago and did NOT starr Jamie Foxx. Frankly, I don't much care for Electro. But in this day and age you have more black mainstream actors than you had in the last century. So don't whine when one gets a role that was created back when creating a black character was practically not allowed.

I think there was a good fight scene with the lizard in the school. I liked Emma Stone in the Gwen Stacey role. I never really rolled my eyes in the movie like I did in the Batman movie. There were several spots in that movie that took me right out of the experience. Like the part at the end where a nuke was about to go off in mere minutes and he had to chit chat with Gordan and Catwoman. Holy Smokes!

Come on now, racists. Most prisoners are white. 70% of reported arrests are white people according to the FBI. HOWEVER...
by Baked
A significant number of PRISONERS are black. Because black juveniles are 9 times as likely to be incarcerated for criminal convictions and 6 times as likely to be charged as adults for THE SAME CRIMES as whites and 9 times as likely to be stopped and frisked in New York City and 4 times as likely to be arrested when found with drugs in California. But, you know, the justice system isn't racist or anything.

Suprised how average Amazing Spider-Man was. Some of it was really bad.
by Quake II
It's like everything I hated about Raimi's Spider-Man was fixed in the reboot but everything I liked about Raimi's version was dropped. The main improvements were the lead actor, love interest and costume but the CGI was pretty "rubbery" during the battles and the death of Uncle Ben was seriously unemotional. I felt nothing. The Lizard was weak as well. The Dark Knight Rises and Avengers really drove home the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man was a pretty shitty superhero film.
-
Nov. 2, 2012, 12:48 p.m. CST
And my 10 year old son who LOVED Avengers and TDKR didn't like Amazing Spider-Man.
by Quake II
My son is pretty easy to please, he's 10 and just wants to have fun at these superhero movies. He loved Iron Man, Captain America, Green Lantern (let it go fanboys), TDKR and Avengers but didn't like Amazing Spider-Man much at all. He said he would rather just watch the 1960's cartoon on Netflix. I agree. As far as reboots go. TASM was a serious waste of time and money. I'll wait for the next reboot in 2020 when we can see the "super-duper secret of Peter Parker's best friend's dad". Give it back to Marvel and move on Sony.
-
Nov. 2, 2012, 12:55 p.m. CST
Anyone who hated TDKR has no taste and their opinion is irrelevant.
by Quake II
Fucking masterpiece that movie is. I can't believe the same people that bash The Dark Knight Rises praise that loud, generic, shallow CGI-fest Avengers. The Avengers was a paint-by-numbers movie meant to appeal to the masses. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it but after watching it at home two more times I'm beginning to realize that it's just empty calories. There's no substance in The Avengers. It's a lot of action scenes sandwiched between some "witty" dialogue and undeveloped characters. I never thought for a second that the heroes were in any danger and after New York is attacked by a horde of aliens there's not single moment of peril. Hulk smash indeed.
-
The Living Vampire!
-
When are you TDKR apologists going to stop? Do you still defend The Matrix Revolutions too? Lol. I enjoyed BB and TDK as much as the next guy, maybe even more, but I know how to tell the difference between quality and shit parading as quality.

first of all - amadeo zeller and mojo-wan are right on the money. Who cares what race or ethnicity Electro is? It's not integral to his character. And all the people who complain that white guys can't be Luke Cage, you must be the same idiots who complain they're not allowed to use the 'n-word.' There are a handful of non-white characters in superhero comics. Most mainstream superhero comic books are still pretty far behind the actual diversity of our culture. So if it doesn't change the core of the character, then why not? Granted, the whole thing with Electro isn't the powers or the costume. Like any good superhero movie, it's the STORY. A few years ago, the depiction of Electro in The Gauntlet storyline in ASM was actually quite brilliant and prescient of the Occupy movement. In that story, Electro becomes a cult hero for those who have been screwed by the system. He becomes a formidable villain because he knows how to manipulate social media to get the crowd behind him. For the first time, Electro was an interesting character to me. So if there's good writing, Electro can work just fine. I liked BOTH Avengers and DKR, although I had way more fun at the Avengers, which was a much more satisfying movie experience (consistently the case with the Marvel films vs. the Nolan Batman films, which were also brilliant but for very different reasons). Quake ii, I don't know what movie you saw, but the Avengers I saw had brilliant character development and interaction, and a positive depiction of superheroes unlike anything I've seen on screen since the first Superman movie in 1978. This was a dysfunctional family that put their shit aside to save the planet (if only the Democrats and Republicans could do the same). A winning story, if you ask me. Amazing Spider-Man will never match the fun of the original Raimi film, but that's only because it was just after 9/11, the country needed a pick me up, and tentpole superhero films were still pretty new. ASM is a new kind of superhero film with different goals, and I think it was a pretty fun movie. Maguire's Peter Parker was an archetype. Garfield's Peter Parker seemed more like a real person. I'm on board for this new series. While Foxx isn't my favorite, he is a good actor and if the script is good, I'd be fine with him as Electro. Plus the fact, that we know the story will be more complicated than just Electro. He won't be the main villain, I'm sure.
-
Come on...that's like Spidey v. the Drag Queen
-
Which I've never had but I'm pretty sure it was. I mean come on man... come on... Not even I think it was perfect, but it definitely put spidey back on track which was the whole point. Yes I agree, my main problem with it is that it's kinda by the numbers superhero movie, but the film works. Better than that limp dick captain america movie. I hope they take it a step further next time, give us a memorable super hero theme, and give the movie its own identity so it's not interchangeable with smallville or whatever.

Anyone remember the Superman's Funeral SNL skit from 20 years ago where Sinbad played Black Lightning?
by Autodidact
-
What dose that even mean. A lot of villains have beat spiderman. Spiderman has a pretty crappy win/loss ratio as far as superheroes go. Shocker has beat spiderman a few times. Just because a writer has villain beat a hero it doesn't make the villain interesting. Doomsday killed Superman that doesn't make him a better villain that lex luthor. I'm not saying he's a bad villain but definitly not top tier. Maybe you're right i just don't know him because I definitly do not understand the love he's getting. The only memorable thing I know he's done was blow his brains out and even Mysterio did it better
-

ASM was a MINOR improvement on SM3 at best....FACT!
-
Did anyone else find Spidey leaving his real name on his camera really stupid? How about leaving the machine that can weaponize gas and too dangerous for commercial use in a office building in NYC too fucking obvious? So if the machine is that dangerous why is it not ina vault in an army base? Hate say it but ASM has some far dumber moments than the Avengers! TDKR had some moments that bad too that I didn't expect from Nolan
-
Kraven, Vulture, Rhino, Morbius, Punisher, Hydroman, Sandman, Kingpin, Doc Ock minus the shades, etc... So why adapt a villain that wears a mask considering the actor likely won't be wearing it for very long in the movie?
-
If Paul Soles got a cameo in a Hulk movie, Chris Wiggins should get a Spiderman or Thor cameo appearance.
-
Spider-Man is relatively useless in helping the current crisis.
-
Exactly! And that's story potential. What if Electro literally gave "power to the people"? That would put the public on his side, making him a decent nemesis.
-
Nov. 3, 2012, 8:49 p.m. CST
Why the hate for Foxx? Did he do a bunch of douche-bag interviews? Is it because he's a singer as well?
by Detective_Fingerling
Didn't know so many people didn't like him so much. I never got the impression he was a dick.
-
And then you'll understand what I mean by him beating Spider-Man "entirely". It does sound like you don't have much experience with him beyond knowing he commits suicide. Check out his best work and then judge him again. And if you still don't like him, at least you read a great Spidey story.

by UltraTron
Iron Man to look like Downey Jr. Same font in credits and music riffs on first movie and I guess this is what you would call a Sony spiderman comic. Can totally picture hulk and gang battling alongside this spiderman. He moves like the games and comics. Gotta say this one works in all kinds of ways. I guess electro is peter's adoptive father. All I know is lizard regenerates faster than wolverine.
-
Ugh! Why would they do Electro? he's a thug with no story. Just a classic gimmick villain. The Vulture would have made for an interesting movie kinda like Up for supervillains. Kraven could be a deep complicated psychological plot of hunter/prey. Lots of good stuff there. Something with Silver Sable or the Black Cat, great. Hammerhead. Silvermane. Heck Mysterio could probably be turned into a great movie. He is by nature sort of a Hollywood meta story. But Electro is just yecch! About the only possible way to make any vaguelly interesting use of him on screen would be to do a Sinister Six story. But even then he is the least interesting villain in the six. (ie Vulture, Kraven, Mysterio, Doc Oc and Sandman. Hmmm?)
-
The most unnecessary movie of the year

This sounds like "He's doing a big movie let's bring up his name" to me
by Stephen
but Electro is a pretty blank template. Bendis did a lot of great things with his Ultimate Spidey universe, but Electro was decidedly not one of them. Boring, dull, thug for hire. When reinterping characters my philosophy is this: take established villains and make them interesting, important characters. The relatable thing they did in the Spider-Man OT (haha I'm calling it that now) with Gobby and Doc Ock having a good person at the core works, but it's by no means the only way to go. If you want thugs, create new characters to support the cool villains. If people haven't read James Cameron's Spider-Man then google that shit. A very interesting (unorthodox) version of an Electro character. There's a million things you could do. Jamie Foxx could absolutely play Electro, because at this point Electro can be anybody. Not saying he couldn't play 616 comics Electro well. I think he could, but why would he? kind of a boring character. I would look forward to a new and interesting interpretation if we hadn't gotten such a shitty 1 dimensional Lizard in that last one. Seriously. Straight from the comics in the worst way. I don't like this new franchise. My expectations are low, but as with all superhero movie ever for the rest of time, I will hope for a good one.
