Here's Necronomicon Ex-Mortis From The New EVIL DEAD!!
The Official Facebook Page for the forthcoming EVIL DEAD re-whateveritis has posted two images of Necronomicon Ex-Mortis - "The Book of the Dead" - from the picture, scheduled for release April 2013.
The version featured in Sam Raimi's original films looked like this:
The new version...is not dissimilar, although lacking in obvious face.

Much to my surprise,. I rather like this re-whateveritis' recently released trailer...
...and have heard very good things about this project's demented script. Can't wait to see how it all comes together late next Spring!

Last time we saw the book, it was ripped up to the point where Ash had to collect the pages...
by Aidan
So it makes sense that it would look different. Bring it on, Alvarez!

Don't know why they didn't just make this a sequel, another gang discover the cabin. Would leave the door open for Ash to return in a sequel

by CountOrlok
In other words, it's completely dissimilar. It's like when people say "I have that EXACT SAME SHIRT only mine is red." Good lord.
-
When you make a book from human flesh, you do it in sheets, in order to give it a smooth look. Not bad, just a bit..."trendy".

The Necronomicon artwork from 2 had a Ron Cobb look about it.
by openthepodbaydoorshal
This.....not so much.

I'm sorry Ash was just too cool & too iconic. So I know it would've be hard to find anyone to equal the coolness that Bruce Campbell displayed but at least try.
-
Ash co-wrote and is producing it. Campbell is too old to take the physicality that is demanded of that role. So he's doing the next best thing. He's getting behind the film, and has gone on to stake his reputation on it. Sam Raimi too. I'm not sure what to expect either with this "reboot." But Rami, Tapir and Campbell (all the principal players from the first 3) are all involved. That at least should make you curious.
-
...well, I still wouldn't buy it..
-
Is the evil dead series supposed to be a comedy? Because AOD sure was! But the trailers for Evil Dead look rather serious.
-
Saw CABIN IN THE WOODS last night and quite enjoyed it. Bit silly but worth a watch. Particularly liked the throwaway reference up there on the whiteboard to ANGRY MOLESTING TREE. Anyone else spot that?
-
And I was like, why would ANYONE ever want to drop out of the band responsible for ''Smell the Witch''?

@dhaemon: ED1 horror with little comedy. ED2, horror/comedy hybrid. AoD, Three Stooges with an skeleton army.

Fuck this shit. The original book had personality with that head,
by frank
it was not just an item but something terrifying and probably with its own mind. This revisionized turd looks like a cheap collectible that some fanboy made.
-
Let's face it - EDI is the only serious film in the series. But that's o.k. If they're simply going to re-make 'Cabin in the Woods,' then no one here is going to be happy. The cold, hard facts are these: We love Bruce Campbell; we love Bruce Campbell as Ash; we love Ash because he is 'the' soul of the Evil Dead franchise; we want Bruce Campbell back as Ash in an Evil Dead sequel. Every element of this equation must be met before we'll get what we want. And by God, we want it now.

The problem with the original is that it wasn't graphic enough. Or serious.

Everyone who still doesn't see that this is INDEED a sequel to the first Evil Dead, clearly needs glasses.
by MariusXe
The girl in the blood rain scene has even the necklace Ash gave his girlfriend in part one. I think she will turn out to be Ashs daughter, or something like that. He might have lived through the ending of the first film. Even if not, this CLEARLY is a sequel. Its the same cabin, the same book, just decades later, with new kids.
-
we are living in the world of excess i.e "Saw" and "Hostel" which, according to this pathetic trailer wants to denote that fact...Oh well, Sam, at least you are directing a hand-me-down known as "Poltergeist"..My goodness. What happened to the irreverance of horror cinema, that "Dead By Dawn" delivered in spades?
-
Its a brand new part of the Evil Dead series.
-

mariusxe, the trailer may give that impression, but it has been stated that this is indeed a complete remake. The other films didn't happen
by FreeBeer

might have to say some hail marys after or something.

Necronomicon ex Mortis is a tautology. Necronicom by itself means Book of the Dead. So Necronicom ex Mortis means Book of the Dead of the Dead. They realised the mistake and that's why it's only referred to by the one word in Army of Darkness. Also the book looks different in all three of the original movies, so there's no need to get agitated by another redesign (I would have preferred a face on there though, maybe it's on the back cover).
-
Yeah, I caught Cabin a few weeks ago. Really enjoyed it. I paused the white board and noticed that and Deadites as well.
-
A friend and I tried to struggle through 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days last night... ugh, boring as hell! She fell asleep, I turned it off. I noticed it was another Rob Taper production. I'm not saying Evil Dead is sacrosant, but it seems more like a moneygrab, rights thing than a good idea. The trailer wow's some people with it's seriousness, but it turns this old timer off.
-
for once!

It is entitled “Naturon Demonto”, roughly translated, “Book of the Dead”
by fedalvar

The trailer is one of the creepier previews I've seen in a while, though. I'm glad they've got the possessed hand/arm but, otherwise, are going for the bleak tone of the first film. The second film was way more campy.

Fuck this shit.

So, if its the same universe as the original or keeps that door open, then maybe ... we MIGHT get an opportunity to converge it into the original trilogy or maybe not... The original trilogy is perfect as is and doesn't need any add ons, but maybe this new trilogy will be an appendix they can strap on to the original's arm... or maybe not.

To be honest, I thought the trailer looked pretty cool...
by biscuithead
...just such a shame it's a remake and not a sequel. Would have been happy with an Ashless Evil Dead if it was in spirit of the original and set in the same universe. Even reprising classic scenes (Possessed hand, tree rape etc) would be fine, as Raimi traditionally did that anyway...
-
Ahh, so the film ends with Jane Levy's obvious face ending up on the front of the book via spooky magic just in time to reveal it's a prequel to 'The (other) Evil Dead'? No, wait, it's an amalgamation of all the kids' faces, because their initials spell "D-E-M-O-N", of course! One by one, they all get absorbed by the book, giving it its obvious face and then the movie cuts to a final scene of a car pulling up outside the cabin and young Bruce Campbell alights from the vehicle to a THUD-THUD-THUD from a chair on the porch.
-
Not being formally trained in Latin, I would read that as "Book of The Dead/Undead" or maybe "Undead Book of the Dead". Either way, I think we can all agree that "dead" becomes a silly sounding word if you say it too many times.
-
it's an ancient book, right? The skin should look leathery with mold spots and dry rot. That thing looks like a fresh silicone skin fx job. They should have used latex mixed with fiberglass insulation- Just like Robert A. Burns did for the leatherface masks for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This new Book looks like a special effect, The pages inside might look cool, but the bind job wasn't thought out well, unless it's a fresh skin job/binding.

Didnt like the sound of another Evil Dead sans Bruce but this actually looks pretty fucking awesome.
-
The trailer looked good, nice return to some old school chills and gore. But. They had to throw a freakin dog in the mix. I hate this movie for that. Of all the horrendous gory shit that happens in Carpenter's The Thing- I always have to look away when the dog pen - alien attack scene starts. All that high pitched dog yelping- freaks me out.

Just another tired reboot. Same identikit characters from the Halloween, Texas Chainsaw, Friday 13th, Nightmare on Elm St. reboots. The Evil Dead is, and will always be, Ash.

* of course, I am accepting of the fact that this is not the Bruce Campbell version(s), and that's fine......I am going in expecting something thats a spiritual successor to the FIRST movie, NOT Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness
