THE OFFICE's Schrute Farm
Spinoff Not Going To Series!!

NBC will not take to series “The Farm,” the proposed “Office” spin-off that would offer a closer look at Dwight Schrute’s family and the bed-and-breakfast he runs at the Schrute beet farm.
"NBC has passed on moving forward with The Farm TV show,” tweeted Rainn Wilson, the spinoff's star and co-creator.. “Had a blast making the pilot – onwards & upwards!”
There’s no word as to whether NBC will air the episode of “The Office” that will serve as “The Farm’s” backdoor pilot, but I’m almost certain it will.
Co-starring with Wilson in the episode/pilot are Matt Jones (“Breaking Bad”) as Dwight’s cousin Zeke, Thomas Middleditch (“The Campaign”) as Dwight’s marijuana-farming brother, and Majandra Delfino (“Roswell”) as Dwight’s sarcastic, more worldly sister.
Tom Bower, who played stammering airport janitor Marvin in “Die Hard 2,” has been cast as Dwight Schrute’s Great Uncle Heinrich, a likely Nazi war criminal.
"The Office" concludes its current, final season in May.

Apparently they just made the announcment they will also be turning upo all night into a multi camera sitcom filmed with a live audience. NBC is whefre TV goes to die
-
The only worse thing they could to is make "Up All Night" an audience/multi-cam comedy. Oh, wait...
-
Really? You need to "scream" that some show isn't being picked up? Lame.
-
This season they made Dwight not be the father to Angela's baby, he mentioned a freeloading sister, and I think he mentioned having a nazi war criminal relative a few episodes ago.
-
Well now those things just stand on their own with some the other strange stuff that he's said over the years.

Def. saw those not too subtle hints dropped about Dwight's family.
by PumaPride
And what's the deal with them setting up Erin leaving Andy for that Pete dude? Weird stuff.

I love The Office, but this sounds like a desperate milking situation that just was not going to be good quality. Probably for the best.

I'm pretty sure this is for the best. It always sounded like an uninspired crappy idea. The sort of thing someone said off the top of your head.

Given how crummy the Office has been the last couple of years
by Bass Ackwards
I can only imagine how much of a turd this spin-off ended up being. Especially for NBC to actually pass on it (you'd think desperation alone would have green-lit this show).

What does this not being a series mean for Community? NBC won't have 30 Rock or The Office next year. This was the offices replacement one assumes. Up All Night going to multicamera suggests it may not be for Thursdays any more? That also seems like a final attempt to try make the show worth watching. It's not terrible or anything, it's just not good enough to watch. I wonder what new re-tooling they'll do. Turn the Baby into a smart arsed kid? So what will the line up be? Or will they just kill must see tv? Community still has plenty of life in it, this has got to in some way be good for it if it's ratings are ok when it returns replacing UAN early next year. Saved from Fridays. If that is what'll happen.

maybe you haven't noticed but about 90% of the headlines on AICN have exclamation points
-
Seems like that show goes through a lot of studio input, instead of just being cancelled. Must be someone's wife/daughter working on it. Or maybe show's as banal as Up All Night are just ones studio execs are more comfortable messing around with.
-
I wanted to see it.

This was there turdiest of all turdy ideas.

Good idea, I enjoy the office and thought this sounded terrible.

The Office and 30 Rock are gone. Community is on the bubble. Is Parks and Rec also in trouble? What is their comedy stuff Up All Night and Whitney?

I bailed on the office last season, was totally gonna watch The Farm. Ah well, it's 99.9% certain they'll show it this season anyway. Maybe pull a TOS "Menagire" and make it a two parter
by Al
Like Dwight is in the office conference room with whoever the new Michael Scott running the office is and they have footage of The Farm. Shoot some bumpers and make it a two parter.
-
Up All Night comes to us from SNL's Lorne Michaels, creator of one of the most profitable franchises in NBC's history. That goes a long way to explaining why the network sticks by it.
-
Love the Dwight character but not at a half hour a week
-
I don't know. I find Dwight irritating now. He has become a charactiture of himself and gets too much screen time (he is better in smaller doses). I would probably watch the show, but I doubt it was going to any good.
-
This show never sounded all that appealing to me. Dwight is the butt of jokes and I can't see it working out if he is the leader of some family. www.nonipplesonthesuit.com

Had to stop reading the talkbacks as I just spoiled some things for myself but Matt Jones would have been great!

He's always been hilariously depressing in Breaking Bad.

As said above - would Dwight become the "straight" man to a family of even more bizarre weirdos?
by openthepodbaydoorshal
And rube comedy can only go so far. It would be as if The Newhart Show had a Larry, Darryl and Darryl spin off. Fun on the edge, but the center of the series?
-
be to introduce a new "straight" to play off Dwight?

The fact that NBC passed tells met this would have been a smart, funny, brilliant series.
by Emperor_was_a_jerk
I like how everyone here is saying things like "Good. It probably would have sucked". Like they have any idea at all.
-
Ayup.
-
This is what I mean... This story about a television show that nobody will ever see gets 2 !!'s. Star Wars Freaking VII coming in 2015 gets 1 !. Sort it out AICN.
-
Could be because the cancellation of that Dwight abortion is much better news than yet another "Star Wars" film to piss off and offend the fans, forcing even more to whine ad infinitum about George Lucas raping their childhood.
-
Don't be an asshole, NBC. Do the right thing.
