AICwHK: THE END??
Hey folks, Harry here...
I want to thank y'all for mainly being so kind in regards to this little show we've been putting on for the last 30 weeks. This makes it right at 7 hours of content, and looking back honestly...the whole show has been a bit of a miracle.
We're really low budget, but my director Brett Hart put together a team of folks that have been a one day a week family for 6 hrs to 15 hrs. And a post team that have burned all the midnight oils to try to make me somehow passable for an early animatronic Disney Imagineering failure. I kid, but our VFX Deity, Brian Behm has brought such a level of genuine cool. There's a ton of folks that supported this insanity of mine & Brett's. Suzette Soucie designed and brought the basement to life out of what came out of my mouth one day. I can remember explaining Boiler - but never dreamt he'd be such a function of my own Id Monster.
Given the once a week format, I felt making each episode its own thing, done as right as we could - might be fun. The notion was that we could convey film news & history in a manner that celebrated and wallowed in the medium. Each episode we tried to do something different. For me, it was learning production.
The finale episode for me had to wrap up the rest of the year and look ahead to 2013 & beyond. I just wouldn't know how to do it otherwise. We were honored to have a surprise guest pop in last minute, literally... on my way to set, kinda last minute.
This celebration of film was always scheduled to end at 30. At the beginning, I couldn't imagine it going past 3 episodes, that we actually got through all 30 is amazing to me, but now it has kind of become a habit. Tuesdays were so much fun, because we'd hit the studio at dawn and shoot till we "got it!"
Right now, we're awaiting word about a 2nd season. But the whole creative team is energized and eager to move forward no matter what. I have loved making these more than you can know. Just getting to perform on that set with my Dad and making stuff Fleischer out like we'd always discussed.
Well, Here ya go with one last adventure...
Till the bitter end, keep it cool...
This is the crew watching the playback on that final shot pulling up and out of the abandoned set. Love everyone in this shot...

this aint no end. see ya next year.

Fingers crossed for next season.
-
Yikes!
-
Well, I'll take sloppy seconds. You know Harry, I may not like everything you do or write but you are doing what you love and that's what really matters. And it shows. Hope you do another season.
-
the few I did see where fun to watch, so good job, sir.
-
Kudos Harry, loved the series (as did my wife) and I hope you get to make many more! But...just between us...you called your director "Hitman" a couple of times, didn't you?
-
Use the end music to "Wrath of Kahn" - do a sweeping shot of the basement, then focus on an empty director's chair with the name "Knowles" on it. (kinda like the way they lingered on the torpedo tube!) FADE TO BLACK
-
how many times did Harry say this??? expand your vocabulary O' Chubby One.
-
All the best!
-
I hope your show comes back for another season, Harry.
-
although that 2013 slate looks kinda lame...heh
-
Will there be an AICN-review of Skyfall within the forseeable future? Have to tell you Harry; it's seems looooong overdue.
-
I'm sure you meant no disrespect, but they are not the Wachowski BROTHERS anymore. Lana is her own person now and should be credited as such.
-
Looks like a suit from GI JOE
-
Another great episode. Hope to see ya next year!

I like you, but you're no Forry.

Can't wait until next year and thanks for using Jerry Goldsmith's THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY theme in your end credits. Keep up the great work.

You were just gettin' yer sea legs and getting comfortable with the format. I'm sure you're chock full of ideas for future episodes. Keep em' coming!

heard conflicting reports, but I'm up for it. Wonder how it'll be advertised as your average bozo won't understand what it means.

Love the Great Train Robbery music at the end! God, I can't believe that Michael Criton is not with us.

He's going to die in 2013. That's not a threat - he said it himself so many times! Poor guy...
-
Thanks for killing nearly 7 hours of my work days over the last few months! This episode was one of the best.
-
This is maybe my second comment on AICN and this is coming from someone who's been visiting the site since you were interviewed on BBC's "Film with Barry Norman" eons ago. Those visits that were once multiple times a day are now maybe once or twice a month owing to the fact that the website has uninteresting and badly written content - Beaks is an exception. I've never given a toss about your DVD column, or any of your frankly terrible writing Harry but I do believe that you've squandered a lead that today could have easily been the no.1 movie site on the net owing to distractions - of which these videos are one. Stop. Concentrate on making your website not look like something from 1997 and quit fucking around with youtube videos and bullshit like BNAT.
-
...guess you found your answer but The original The Blob also ended with The End morphing into a question mark.
-
Def his best performance. Fuck TRAINING DAY.
-
With extra snapper!
-
Why hasn't this been reported yet??? Crackerjack reporting..

Congrats, Harry! A great 30 eps! And have my fingers crossed...
by tangcameo
...that this isn't the end. I agree with you on the new Robocop. The new suit reminded me of the first GI Joe movie. I was hoping for the complete opposite, human body and computer screen face. The only thing I like about it were the gumball lights in the legs. Going to read Cloud Atlas before I see it. It's my rule, otherwise I can't get the actors faces out of my head when I read. Hoping to see the rest at my hometown drive-in (I hope) next summer! All the best in 2013, Harry! :-)
-
You have to search for them because they're buried down deep in the website. I couldn't find them in the video replay section and had to use the search function and even then they only show you a random handful at a time. You'd think someone would have revived the show by now since it's been 20 years and there's so much more to talk about with Commander Rick and NANCY.
-
I have been hearing its the best bond ever as well.
-
Since Yann Martel lives here when he's not off promoting his books or whatever. A one night premiere at the Broadway Theatre, the last indie theatre in the city - not the other one which is owned by the big cheap movie theatre chain and just tarted up to look indie and art deco.

since AICN has lazily neglected significant coverage of the Hobbit (compare this to the run-up to LOTR where we had tidbits multiple X a week and regular exclusives)... and Quint has childishly abandoned the set reports he went halfway around the world for... please check out THESE amazing set reports from io0, including in-depth discussions of each dwarf!!! http://bit.ly/QIfvri

It is the most overrated film ever! I can't believe that Harry bitched and moaned about THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and then sings the praises of CLOUD ATLAS. MATRIX REVOLUTIONS is greater than CLOUD ATLAS.

We always knew the new Wolverine movie was a stand alone. The big news is it is set after X-men 3 (with flash backs). Spoiler I've also heard that Famke Janssen is making a cameo. Interesting if it's in a flashback or the Phoenix rises...again
-
This last episode was the first one I ever saw and I liked it quite a bit. Are there links to the other episodes here on the website?

I like them but have noticed the steep decline in views. I think if you worked more on this site, that would feed into this. So you should do that. Work more on this site. It needs it. Please.

Man! That's so cool! Glad to hear the Hitman has found a hobby beyond the ring. I'll bet just the look of you makes him want to lock the sharpshooter on your bulbous ass.

and film yourself blathering on about nothing for about 8 minutes. You'll get the same amount of hits! I have no idea what you were trying to accomplish by having such a 'slick' production. No wonder this site went broke.

harry how has your head gotten? Not literally, we can all take guesses on that. But you actually call this 2-bit, no budget, one man (mostly) discussion, a season? Try webisode series. Actual television shows have seasons. Your acting like your on the bubble at NBC hoping they renew your act for another season. Harry your almost as funny as my friend who thinks he's legit comedian and badgers quasi-celebrities on twitter to try to get a response from them to look big time. Harry what's your budget for next season? Hope AICN productions really goes all out for your next season!
-
All of the episodes were great, Harry. Seeing all of your memorabilia and enthusiasm for film (and other entertaining mediums) made these episodes special. Here's to looking forward to Season 2. If not, thanks for 30 great episodes. www.nonipplesonthesuit.com
-
That was how you did a crazy. funny review show, and that was 20 years ago...Wonder what happened to Nige and Steph.
-
It's going to be great to see all of the lefties piss and moan and gnash their teeth when Romney gets elected. The MSM justifying the chosen ones loss as somehow being Obama's plan all along, Maddow and Mathews going into nervous breakdowns and losing it, most of Hollywood rewriting award speeches from praising Obama to bash Romney/Ryan, Hillary preparing for 2016, The View going apeshit with name calling, ect... (sigh) popcorn will be ready...

I never in a million years could be Uncle Forry. But he did ask me to carry the torch forward the day before he passed away, and in many ways that conversation changed my life. I always credit and bring him up because he was hugely significant in my life. Others bring it up, but I've always felt significantly different than Forry. He focused almost exclusively in his writing upon Fantasy, Horror & Sci Fi, the term he created. I am incredibly fond of those genres, his love of everything that went into those genres. I just also love gangster flicks, martial arts films, action movies, epics, foreign films, avant garde flicks, indie movies, musicals, every form of animation, Noir, Suspense - I love film and I love digital. I love meeting and talking with all manners of crew & cast. Love finding out how the get shots, what went into it. Understand and learn. Film is my favorite mystery.
-
My company is the type to scour the internet for their name or their employees and I signed a noncon agreement. It's a media/news related job, it pays the bills (barely now, thank you to Saskatoon's skyrocketing rents), it's boring and you have to be up at *checks watch* 5am to do it. It's kind of like Winston Smith's job in 1984 (without the fact-changing). To fully explain it takes five minutes (I keep suggesting they print off business cards with a QR to their website but... *shrug). It gives me the afternoons off to work on my book (4th draft) so I'm happy with it. What do you do? And how "near"?
-
This is starting to seem a bit weird.

Can one really be "dying" that much? Doesn't it take away from the use of it when everything you talk about your are death's door to witness?

You guys want a Skyfall review? I just got back. Its exactly what I thought a mendes bond film would be. A forgettable bland, drab character study drama about Bond and M's relationship (AGAIN!!). Only highlights is the opening and a short section in shanghai and the introduction to Bardem . Expecting a decent Bond villain? Forget it. *SPOILER* Does Bardems villain want world domination?Any big secret organisation? Nope he just wants to kill M due to being a mistreated agent. Hes a insane computer hacker (how original) and hes very camp...theres even a scene like Silence of the lambs. Who really gives a fuck if Bond saves M?? *SPOILER END* Thats about your lot for 145 mins. Bored out of my skull. They need to ditch the M/Bond (mother son) element I think Dench had about the same screentime as Craig...certainly felt that way.
-
Its not that its a bad film. Its just a bad Bond film. And im not even a James bond nut.
-
if only you'd care about this site (which is almost 20 years old) as much as you did your Youtube show.
-
I have only recently discovered you and this show is always a pleasant interlude in the week. I have tried to find the other 30, but don't think I have found them all yet. Who can we write ,to express our support, etc. ? Sure hope you do another 30 or 60 !
-
Not a Drop ...Nada ....of interest for Robocop. Period. And why no mention of Skyfall ? I like Johhny Depp. Will see almost anything he is in. Tonto ? No-no. Zip. Can you say Klinton Spilsbury revisited ?
-
I live in the Queen city to the south currently, but visit Saskatoon regularly. Initially I hated it here and preferred Saskatoon because of the more vibrant arts and social scene, but I've come to prefer it down here. Now when I come to Toon town it feels like the hipster town of the prairies. Also recently at Lydia's, the bartenders wouldn't serve me until they served everyone around me even though we were standing in a line, they started taking drinks from the people behind me......I'm not white. I used to frequent that place a lot, but it gets a different crowd depending on the nights. The poetry reading nights are cool, though....but never going back. As for me, I can't say where I work either....but let's just say I work with crazy people. Hence my love for talkbacks! But it's good to hear that you're involved with the arts (ie. writing). I had no idea Yann Martel lived there. I'd definitely attend if he ever did any type of public showing of Life of Pi.
-
I really liked this episode. I think this has been the most honest Harry has been with us. His passion for the actors he covered and his anticipation for the upcoming movies was refreshing. There was a bit of goofball cheese at the end, but I really enjoyed this episode.

by Hari_Seldon
I can see in you the pure enthusiasm for something that is pure joy, as it is for us. We are geeks, we do not get millions of dollars, we do not date the stars, we do not gain prizes. We just love movies for what they are. We don't care about our egoes. We are just happy movie fans.
-
Harry looks silly behind a table thats too big for him or is he hiding his sizable girth. My god is he large. That is distracting. I like the site but that show is really boring. Harry doesn't have any chemistry. And the camera just doesn't like him.

1. get the director/editor to "trim"fathergeek"s fingernail out of opening segment...for obvious reasons, plural. 2. either move "boiler" two-three feet to the left or right...or move the guest chair...reason: EVERY guest that sits in the interview""ee" chair, looks like they have glowing neon green xmas trees coming out their ears. you have SERIOUS film icons on your show, i shouldn't be distracted like that... i can't be the only one that's noticed that bad bit of set design...really, watch any episode where a person sits in the guest chair...fuckin xmas trees! & for the record, please stop using the fucking word "pwesents"...fucking like...gotta eat, lame.

great fucking episode harry. you filled me with good feelings, put a literal smile on my face. which is saying a lot. i'm not much of a smiler.
-
...are goddamn awful, and I am never in the slightest bit interested in what he thinks of a film. BUT, his movie insights into the filmmaking process/the world of Hollywood, and his unique position in being able to comment upon it, are all excellent. Plus, when he lays off the nerdgasms and actually talks without hyperbolic bullshit about film development and news, he's surprisingly watchable and engaging. This was the first vid of these I've seen, and if a second season happens-and Harry can lay off the cliched geek 'I'm excited about everything that might even be vaguely "awesome"' jive-I'll be watching. Nice work. Ps I'm reminded of EERIE, INDIANA by the basement. I used to love that show...
-
I dont give a fuck about RT ratings. If you liked it good for you...easily pleased but good for you. I like to be entertained by a film when I go see it. Skyfall didnt entertain me. It was a tepid Bond movie almost as bad as QOS...and having the fanservice Aston in it to hide the bland plot didnt fool me. FACT!. :-P
-
VIDS on the other hand is awesome.
-
Tell Nige hallo, and you're right regarding Bits and the sexy Emily Booth. I expect you already know, but she is now on the Horror Channel doin bits n bobs.

haha My company moved me into a home office in a corner of my apartment so I AM the crazy coworker! muahahaha I haven't been to Lydia's in years. The hours for my job are kind of weird, I put in a full time shift plus 4-5 hours more writing so my day is usually done just after happy hour. Plus I recall the service wasn't that great anyway. Have you tried Amigos? That's the hippest of the hipster bars in Toontown. Regina is a good place for the arts too. Live music (my Debbie Harry groupie friend was there two or three years ago), theatre, etc. There were some great tv series there too (Mocassin Flats, Corner Gas) and at least one movie that actually got play in US theatres, at least for one weekend. Before the tax credit ended. Now I'm not so sure about anywhere in SK now that they killed that. It was a very stupid move. Martel shows up for literary festivals or library meetings once in a while. I've seen him over at McNallyRobinson and would have seen him at my old bookstore if my boss hadn't drove it into the ground. Ya I'm on the fourth draft of my book. Letting friends near and far read it and maybe pass it on to people they know (and hoping none of them sue me haha). I may move out of the city and back to my hometown though. All the things I moved to the city for nearly 20 years ago you can find or access in any small town. haha SORRY, HERC! It's just cool to bump into a local on here. :-) Forgive us! p.s. *checks skin* white but still not going to Lydia's

I still have faith in the intelligence of America, and comon after Bush, I hope we all learned our lesson. People really wanna go back to those policies? (and don't say it's better than Obama's "Socialist agenda" because you're dumber than an earthworm if you believe all that) Harry's right, the world might as well end if Romney gets elected. Tacoloft please meet me here on AICN on november 7th so I can laugh and mock you. On topic, thanks Harry for the series, I enjoyed it, although I was a lil creeped out at times....
-
if you'd vote for that wafer thin excuse for a corporate whore then you will get the apocalypse you god bothering assholes deserve... shame you'll drag the rest of the planet down with you.
-
...so please stop asking me to. Like most Americans, I can see through the LIES, DISTORTIONS and general BULLSHIT that spews out of our current pathetic excuse of a president. As you will quickly find out, many of the people who will vote for Governor Romney are NOT part of any "tea party." As a black man, I am embarrassed that Obama represents us as the "first black president." I guess that we can just blame his failure on the white half of his genes. :-)

I actually didn't watch a single episode cuz Harry ended ep 1 about a Prometheus "script review" teaser that was bullshit so he could get hits
by Al
I found that blatant lie-filled hit-whoring a bit pandering, because he took the super-fake Prometheus script and "reviewed" it to simply blow up numbers for his web TV show. So I didn't watch. Ever. (and I know that's how ep. 1 ended with him teasing Prometheus script review cuz somebody else on the internet said so). May Hurricane Sandy bring a righteous, cleansing fury upon us all.

Harry...you have the brain of a 12-year-old girl. What the fuck do you know about politics? The economy is as worse as its ever been because of our president. He failed. He said he would fix the economy in 4 years and he didn't. And he also covered up secret missions in the middle east which did not go well. He's a failure and a liar. I don't expect you to understand that though. As you probably get your daily politic news from MSNBC
