Updated With First Look At The Mandarin!! It's The IRON MAN 3 Teaser One Sheet!!
The Kidd here...
I've got to say... Marvel Studios goes with simplicity for its IRON MAN 3 teaser poster, and it looks mighty damn good.

It's artistic, you know exactly what movie they're referencing, and it gets you a nice bit excited about seeing Tony Stark suiting up next May. Well done, Marvel. Now how do I get one of these for my wall?
Now just hold on for the teaser trailer which is coming later this week. I'm not showing you the teaser to the teaser on general principle.
* * * * * * * * * *
UPDATE: It looks like it's going to be an IRON MAN 3 kind of week, as, in addition to this first one sheet for the film and the coming trailer tomorrow, Entertainment Weekly managed to get their hands on the first official look at Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin.

For those of you who have been waiting for the character's inclusion in the franchise since the first film, is this everything you'd hoped it would be and more?

Has Downey said anything about coming back for Avengers 2?
by skiprat1
Nice poster also. Nice to see some restraint, and no floating heads - though I'm sure that will come.

This whole "teaser for the teaser" seems awfully silly to me, but it must be working.

an Exclusive Trailer in 1 Day (I assume that'll be sometime tomorrow).

Also, why is the Iron Man Mk II suit in Tony's collection when Rhodey stole it and turned it into the War Machine suit?

I know, I know, it's only a poster.

Here... http://tinyurl.com/9rgayk2 Still not crazy about the gold-heavy armor. To me, Iron Man should always be more red than gold or at least equal parts.

There might be an explanation for the Mark II being there.
by hank henshaw
Actually, every single suit gets trashed in one point or another during the course of the movies, so you could as yourself "why is the Mark I there?" "Wasn't the Mark V heavily damaged by Whiplash?" Considering how relatively fast Tony Stark and Jarvis are able to build those things, I figure that they just build replicas to display in the collection. It's not like Stark ever goes back to use one of the older models anyways. Oh, and I hope the new one, with all the pale gold, gets destroyed early in the movie.
-
Oct. 22, 2012, 11:57 a.m. CST
Most likely no one will refer to him as "The Mandarin" in the movie.
by hank henshaw
Just like you never heard anyone calling Rourke's character "Whiplash" or "Crimson Dynamo".

Bruce Wayne would beat the shizznit out of Tony Stark. With or without armor. You know it to be true, bitches.
by MariusXe
He wouldn't beat Tony in a constructors competition, or some such, but in every other area imaginable. Sorry, I had to geek out there for a sec. But seriously, the 17 seconds of the teasers teaser looked great. Much bigger scope than both Iron Mans. The only stupid thing about it is Tony new hairdo. Ouch. That looks so frikking douchey.

The theatrical one will probably be the same old lazy floating heads with explosions underneath but that teaser poster is great. I can definitely see that hanging on my wall someday.

If you're saying Iron man vs Batman, I'd give it up to Iron Man, but Stark Vs Wayne...no contest.
-
If i remember right it's explained on dvd/blu ray extras the iron monger suit evolved from the hulk buster suit designs so there are no plans to do a hulk buster suit......still I'd love to see hulk vs hulk buster in the future of live action marvel films.

Paranormal Activity sucks! Iron man 2 sucked! Man of Steal is going to suck! (But only because Zack Snyder is shitting all over it)

however, with a great actor they can even transcend ridiculous character design. if the writing is great then kingsley can deliver.

Whose bright idea was it to start that movie off with a "making of" montage, a lecture, and a committee hearing? ZZZZZZZZZZZ!

does that mean Ben Kingsley is fulfilling his role as the go-to guy for Asian characters not played by Asians?

... have yet remarked "Wow, so Iron Man will be fighting Qui-Gon Jin's dad in this one?"

I´m also agree with the idea that Mandaryn´s apperance is shit. Althought I would see some similarity with the comics and the most important is that they can create a interesting Villein in the film.

by Twisted Wisdom
That seemed to work out pretty well. So Kingsley should be OK to play the Mandarin. Sometimes you just need to find the best actor for the role, regardless of race.

They didn't want to go the way of the possibly racist Fu Manchu knockoff. I don't care.

Since he doesn't look the least bit Chinese, I'm guessing they're not making him Chinese in this film.
by kevred
Looks a bit ridiculous if he is supposed to be Chinese, but really, jettisoning that part of the character would remove the most outdated/stereotypical part of the character. And let's be honest - it is even really that necessary that the character be Chinese? Sure, there's the name, but he was always a free agent, playing the big powers against one another so he'd come out on top himself. Based on the hints dropped in the first IM film, it would make sense for him to be a free agent who aligns himself with Middle East terrorists and China itself to suit his ends, without really being a member of either community. Everything's global these days anyway, so bad-guy-ness relying on ethnicity is pretty much old hat now anyway. Unless you're a Fox News viewer.

Yeah, IM2 was inexcusably awful, but Avengers has convinced me to be interested in this again.
by kevred
I'm assuming they can't screw it up again as badly as they did with IM2. It worked so effortlessly well in the first IM film and Avengers, and now they have what should be a great villain. I don't give a damn about War Machine or Hulkbuster or Iron Patriot any other latter-day IM goofball nonsense. Just give us a fun, interesting story with compelling characters, good action, and a pronounced lack of horrible time-wasting nonsense compared to IM2.

His name was Ra's Al Ghul, though, not The Arabian.
-
I just rewatched both films recently. IM1 is GREAT. And I always remembered it as being my fav after Capt America. I was never a hater of IM2, but I didn't like it as much as the first film. Time has changed that. Maybe it's because of the Avengers, maybe it's because Marvel has refined and perfected the Stark/IM character now after a few outings, I dunno. But I immensely enjoyed IM2 this time around--even moreso than the first (which was a shock to me). And Cheadle is a much better Rhodey, no question about it. The film is just more fun and enjoyable on repeat viewings than the first. I know I'll catch hell for this, but whatever. It's my point of view. IMO, the world of nerddom really over-exaggerated how "bad' IM2 was. Looking forward to 3. Great poster. And, @ rev_skarekroe: I would think Stark would have more than one MKII suit--especially by the time period of IM3.
-
Why is the Mark I armor in that lineup? Isn't that it, far left? I thought he left that in the desert and the ten rings took it.
-
And the suit's been a gold-alloy since the first movie with red for style.
-
If you look at the suits from left to right, it's a chronology of all the suits. I doubt all of them will actually be setup like this in the film. Looks to me that it's just for the poster. It's covering the whole timeline of IM suits from the first film to now (the newest one on the far right).
-
What's most disappointing is how promising it was, and how good it could have been. :(
-
The ending is horrible. I always thought it was a weak ending, but I forgave it because the rest of the film was done so well. Getting into a duel at the top of a building? Hmm... how many thousands of times have we seen that? It's really disappointing. And I think seeing how GREAT the next few Marvel films are... It really has dated IM1 for me. The vibe and mood is different. It's much more serious in tone (more akin to Incredible Hulk than Avengers). I prefer the more refined, "fun" versions of these characters that started after Hulk. IM2 is much more similar in tone to Avengers or Thor. IM1 and Hulk (though I love both films) have a completely different vibe to them--which is fine, but I prefer the newer, current film tone they've achieved). BUT... I completely get that I'm in the minority here. But those are my reasons for going against the grain, haha.
-
I'm really looking forward to this trailer tomorrow!
-
Look, by no means was Iron Man 2 as good as 1, but it's certainly not the screaming trainwreck internet nerdlets are making it out to be. How about we all stop the drama queening, move on, and continue to enjoy what is shaping up as a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic experience (the unified Marvel canon). For fuck's sake - you'd think Favs had followed you home and personally raped your dog, judging by some of the over-reaction here.
-

I'M REALLY WORRIED THAT MARVEL IS GOING TO FUCK THINGS WITH GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!!!FACT!!! IT'S HARD ENOUGH TO MAINTAIN CREDIBILITY WITH IRON MAN, HULK, CAP, THOR ETC..... BUT......

A fucking talking Racoon is taking things too far. I think Phase 2 should be Iron Man 3, Cap 2, Thor 2, another Hulk movie and a S.H.E.I.L.D. spin off. That's five movies that could be used to build towards Avengers 2. There's 6 infinity gems, so, each of those five movies should revolve around one of the gems in some way with Avengers 2 showing Thanos getting the gauntlet together. Just some thoughts....

The tiny fight at the racetrack, the under used roarke, the rock'em sock'em battle with robots at the end. Fine for other films, but Marvel should be better than that. I thought it was better the second time I saw it, but then again, I was pretty baked.

I don't think you need to worry about GoG. Feige is the man. He's absolutely earned my trust, even with a few missteps (nothing is perfect!). I'd never even heard of GoG until the film announcement. And, yeah, at first I thought WTF? But the idea has really grown on me. I'm actually pretty pumped up for it now. When the Thor teaser posters arrived, it was the first time I thought "oh no, they've fucked this up--it looks 'Batman & Robin' bad". But I was obviously WRONG. And glad for it, too! Thor rocked and I'm looking forward to the sequel! But, really, I don't think you need to worry over GoG. There's no reason to doubt Marvel Films at this point. So, I say, bring it on! =)

HERE'S MY PRE-AVENGERS REVIEW FOR IRON MAN 2!!!FACT!!!......
by CreepyThinManForever
I thought Iron Man avoided the first film training wheels by delivering a very solid and entertaining movie. I was hoping that everyone was going to bring their A-game and give us a sequel that could stand along side The Dark Knight, Spider-man 2 and X2. What we got was a piece of fucking shit. The first flick had FOUR screen writers that Favreau used to craft the story for part one and did it successfully. With part 2 we got a script by Actor/Writer Juston Theroux who had only ONE screenplay credit to his name, Tropic Thunder, which, of course, starred Downey Jr.. So it appears that Downey is using the Iron Man franchise to basically act like a nepotistic douchebag and fuck up the series that put him back on the A-list. Further evidence of this is that Shane Black was recently announced as the Writer/Director of Iron Man 3 and this is ONLY because Downey starred in Blacks ONE and only feature as Director, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Getting back to Iron Man 2, these are the problems with the movie…. 1# The main villain sucks shit. Some Russian jerkoff wants revenge on Stark because his Daddy spent a few years getting his asshole renovated in a gulag because of Starks father. Said dickhead spends most of the movie, apart from the one brief scene of action in Monaco, tinkering with equipment belonging to weapons manufactured and Stark rival…. 2# Justin Hammer who is less of a rival to Stark then a fucking clown only in the movie to make Stark (Downey) look good. A good IM movie would have used this guy as the dark side of Stark, someone willing to develop Arc technology for the highest bidder which would have drawn the concern of….. 3# James Rhodes who should have been written as not some military tool just trying to get his hands on Tony’s tech but as the person who basically explains to Stark that he’s going around as Iron Man to alleviate the guilt he feels for having started a whole new weapons race that will unleash who-knows-what Horrors upon the world. The conflict between Rhodes and Stark should have been one of ideology which is why he feels justified in betraying his friend and stealing the suit that helps him become War Machine. Rhodes decision should have been further cemented by the fact that….. 4# Tony Stark is descending into alcoholism because he knows that his intentions to create world peace will now lead him to being remembered as a modern day Oppenheimer. He’s cracking under the strain of knowing that the US military would like his help to develop arc tech while also knowing that at some point, in the near future, they will stop asking and just take it. He also knows that rivals like Hammer already have the tech and are now developing it for other nations who will no doubt use it as a weapon. He doesn’t trust his best friend who he believes is supplying the Government with info that he knows they’ll use to justify seizing his invention under the guise of “national security”. Meanwhile, his company is going down the shitter because he wants to use Arc tech as an alternate fuel supply that would get the USA out of he middle east and imperialistic warfare but Congressional asswipes, in the pockets of military defense contractors/oil, gas and coal companies, refuse to put any money into developing Arc tech on a national scale while using their right wing mouthpiece’s to shit on the idea 24/7. All of this further adds to the strain between Tony and…. 5# Pepper Potts who is now under massive pressure to run Stark Enterprises with its owner AWOL most of the time or in a drunken stupor, which keeps her from being able to pursue a meaningful relationship with Tony who, it seems, can’t be relied on which throws her into a lesbian relationship with….. 6# Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, a Russian born agent of S.H.E.I.L.D. who was planted in Stark’s company to keep an eye on things and report back to her superior, Nick Fury. Some of this was actually done in the movie but they placed WAY TOO MUCH emphasis on S.H.E.I.L.D., purely because Marvel has been setting up it’s movie universe which is expanding with the release of Captain America, Thor and the upcoming Avengers movie. I want an IRON MMAN movie, not the S.H.E.I.L.D. Chronicles so I hope they’ll keep that shit in the background from now on although I didn’t mind the inclusion of…. 7# Agent Coulson who made for an effective G-man although they could have added some dimension to his character by having him in a homosexual affair with Tony’s driver…. 8# Happy Hogan who dutifully serves Stark and offers no bullshit sage advice for his boss in times of stress when Tony sometimes can’t see the forest from the tree’s. It’s he who should have saved Tony’s bacon by putting a bullet into the head of…. 9# Ivan Vanko, the shitty “main villain” (of this piss poor waste of 200 million dollars) who should have been capped right after the end of the Monaco sequence as his only purpose was to create a bunch of remote controlled robots that went after Tony only for himself to stupidly take on both Stark and Rhodes and be killed like a fucking bitch when he could have easily lived to fight another day. All of these reasons are what made Iron Man 2 a piece of fucking shit while my alternative ideas were soo simple that I can’t believe they weren’t as obvious to the entire cast and crew. This is the sad reason that Iron Man 2 didn’t match up to great sequels like The Dark Knight, Spider-man 2 and X2.

AND HERE'S MY FEELINGS ABOUT THE IRON MAN SERIES POST-AVENGERS!!!FACT!!!
by CreepyThinManForever
Just to re-cap; Iron Man - Apart from Ang Lee's HULK (which IMHO is an underrated near-masterpiece) Iron Man was one of the most confident comic book origin movies of the last decade or so with only a weak climax being the only real flaw. Apart from that the script was a well done and Jon Favreau's Direction was solid. But the films masterstroke was in the casting of Robert Downey Jr. who is perfect as Tony Stark. Iron Man 2 - Is a shitty movie and while some blame the rushed production schedule, I think the success of Iron Man went to RDJ's head and that he was responsible, along with Marvel, for that films failure. The problem was two fold; RDJ wanted his buddy, actor Justin Theroux (American Psycho, Charlie's Angels Full Throttle) to script IM2 only because he also happened to have written Tropic Thunder which, of course, RDJ starred in and recieved an Oscar nomination for. Tropic Thunder was also Theroux's only produced screenplay and he was the only credited writer on IM2 compared to part one which had four writers on board, two of which had Children of Men on their resume. As a result, IM2 is under-written with a terrible lead villain while the chemistry between RDJ and Don Cheadle (as James Rhodes) isn't as strong as it was between RDJ and Terrence Howard who played Rhodes in the first film. The clear narrative path for part 2 was the Demon in a Bottle storyline from the comics which dealt with Stark's descent into alcoholism in the face of the new arms race he's sparked off with Arc technology. But instead they decided to focus on Stark's daddy issue while also using IM2 to set up The Avengers which is why IM2 feels less like an Iron Man movie than it should. Overall the movie was a HUGE dissapointment. The Avengers - Had the benefit of Joss Whedon who is able to do ensemble storylines in his sleep while IM2 failed because of too many characters and storylines not properly handled. Luckily, because Whedon had a multitude of characters that he needed to wedge in, RDJ wasn't able to screw with the script to suit his own ends and as a result The Avengers feels like the Iron Man sequel we should have got where everything is balanced. IM2 almost killed my interest in seeing another Iron Man movie but The Avengers has me looking forward to Iron Man 3......with some trepidation. Iron Man 3 - Shane Black is the new Writer/Director of Iron Man 3 after Jon Favreau decided not to return. Now, Black's a great screenwriter (Lethal Weaon, The Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight) but I have to question the motivation behind his hiring. You see, Black made his Directorial debute back in 2004 with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which was the movie that re-launched RDJ's career after years of alcohol and drug abuse not to mention incarceration multiple times as a result of his substance issues. KKBB is a great movie and reminds us of what a great actor RDJ can be with the right material while Blacks Direction is very good. Now, I know you're probably thinking "well, clearly Black was the perfect choice for Iron Man 3 given his experience with people wearing robotic suits while shitfaced".... http://cdn.chud.com/f/f7/900x900px-LL-f757c283_MovieQuiz_1183-0695986.jpeg But I have a worrying suspicion that the real reason that RDJ backed Black for the job was that not only was he getting a friend of his to write it, again, but Black's only Directing credit to this date is still KKBB which concerns me considering the scale, scope and budget of IM3 which is reported to be 200 million. Black writing credentials are unquestionable but I hope that RDJ isn't using his inexperience as a Director, not to mention the size of the project, to manipulate Black into shaping the narrative to RDJ's whims as he did on IM2. One has to wonder why Jon Favreau didn't return to the Director's chair considering the 3 year lead time he would have had to develop IM3 unless RDJ pushed him out the door to get his own way which is what I believe happened. I will end by saying that I'm very happy that Shane Black is doing IM3 and that I just don't want RDJ running roughshod over him and screwing up IM3 as it could be a huge boost for Black in the same way The Avengers has been to Whedon. Both guys are hugely talented Writers and I'm happy to see them succeed. Anywho, I've been a fan of Black since I was a kid but the 04:00-07:10 section of the video below made me love the man. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=49ndDMgzdn4
-
Everyone complains so much about how SHIELD took over the film. I just don't see that. Sure SHIELD is there and has a presence, but it took the spotlight away from IM/Stark? Nah. I've never agreed with that. Still don't The balance is fine.
-
you can quote me
-
Cheadle is WAAAAAAAY better as Rhodey. The 2 aren't even in the same arena. Cheadle is a much, much better actor. And the chemistry between the 2 actors is better than with Howard, as well. Also, while Bana was an awesome choice to play Banner/Hulk, Lee's 'Hulk' was a rubbery cartoon with a really awful plot. Just terrible. Loved how he directed it, though (all the 'comic panels' and whatnot). And I liked Jennifer Connelly much better than Liv Tyler. But over all... I'd rate that film a "D+". I don't even think there's a better film hiding in there somewhere. It just wasn't very good. But, that's cool. If we all agreed, life would be incredibly boring.
-
But Ang Lee Hulk was a stunning film. Terrific acting by all involved. Wonderful exploration of spectacle and mystery and a damn good interpretation of the core concept behind the Hulk. That other one was a shit.

kremzeek, I'M SHITTING MY PANTS OVER GotG BECAUSE OF JAMES GUNN!!!FACT!!! THIS GUY IS IS KNOWN FOR A BUNCH OF MEDIOCRE TRIPE!!!FACT!!! SURE, I THINK TROMEO AND JULIET IS A MASTERPIECE BUT....
by CreepyThinManForever
He only scripted that and Lloyd Kaufman is well known for making shit up as he goes along so who knows how much of T+J was Gunns doing? Apart from that most of his "geek" cred is that he wrote two movies about regular people pretending to be superheroes (Super, The Specials), both of which were shit, not to mention those fucking wretched Scooby-Doo abominations and the fucking awful Dawn of the Dead remake. But people keep sucking his dick because he made ONE semi-decent Horror movie SIX FUCKING YEARS AGO (Slither) which is only remembered because it starred perennial Geek favorites Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker. The fact is Slither was forgettable. No. I think Gunn has just been sucking a lot of dick and I fear for Marvel's Phase 2.

I'm not fighting anyone. Just expressing my opinion--which is different than yours, and that's totally cool by me.

I just have before.

Stark has a better haircut and the CGI has been improved...less motion blur.
-
Yeah, I can understand that. After my initial, negative reaction to 'Thor' being proven wrong, I just have no more doubts in Kevin Feige. The guy knows what he's doing (too bad DC doesn't have an equivalent on their side, but that's a whole different topic). So, really, they could get Orci/Kurtzman to write one of the next Marvel movies... and sure, I'd raise an eyebrow of concern (I can't stand either that writing team, so I used them as an extreme example), but after the initial "uh, what?!", I'd be fine with it. As, again, I trust Feige. But I get ya.
-
Do the briefest of research, you dopes.

I'm not mad tho. I think its funny.

It wasn't Shakespear so you're all going to cry about what a let-down it was. Get a life, kiss a girl. I'd be nice if it was. And it might very well be, but It's not like if it fails it'll stop Avengers 2 from doing well. They're not stupid enough to interlink the plots so that the audience needs to have seen it. It'll just mean we won't get shit like Planet Hulk in the future.

That's what made me think 'Thor' was going to be 'Batman & Robin' bad. The suits look terrible in regular lighting--like a bunch of silly high schoolers wearing rubber suits for Halloween. But once the film was actually done and we could see everything in context, I was proven very, very wrong--thankfully! I agree--these magazines and whatnot need to get better shots before they release them. If I were Marvel/Disney I wouldn't allow these mediocre stills to be published.

I can't agree on the Ang Lee Hulk movie love - only the desert fight was good - The Hulk in the Avengers did the riding the jet far better - and Hulk Dogs? Hulk size changing?? and Nick Nolte as Banner's Dad / The Absorbing Man??? Seriously? The Edward Norton Incredible Hulk was far superior in almost every regard (but I did have problems with the look of the Abomination). Fortunately Edward Norton's normal desire to take over the writing and direction put him on the outs with Marvel, which resulted in giving us Mark Ruffalo! Mark Ruffalo's Banner/Hulk are the best incarnation yet and I hope for either a solo movie or a Iron Man / Hulk movie one day because the chemistry between RDJ and Ruffalo was phenomenal!

Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has explained how Sir Ben is going to play the originally Oriental baddie: by not actually being Chinese. “It’s less about his specific ethnicity than the symbolism of various cultures and iconography that he perverts for his own end,” Feige told EW

None really in the entire third act, but RDJ as Stark is always enjoyable. Love him as Ritchie's Holmes, and would love to see a sequel to KKBB. Here's hoping that Shane Black knocks this out of the park. <BR> My two cent MCU report card: <BR> IM: B+ <BR>TI Hulk: C+ <BR> IM2: D+/C- <BR> Thor: B+ <BR> CA TFA: C- <BR> The Avengers: A <BR> In retrospect, I'd say that all of these films, even The Avengers, suffer from an under-scripted Third Act, as do pretty much all Super-hero films, it seems. Sure, The Avengers finale was a lot fun, but, heck, NYC might as well have been attacked by Reavers, and enough with that ID4/Phantom Menace mother-ship kill switch. <BR> I guess we're never going to get a lot of credibility or move radically away from "the big showdown" formula during a super-hero dénouement (which, as The Tick pointed out, is "French for 'when we beat up the supervillain!'")- but they can't just keep doing a rinse and repeat thing with these forever, can they? <BR> Please no more finales that involve... secondary characters clacking away at keyboards, WWF-style smack-downs, portals to another dimension above the Chrysler Building, or the main character flying away with a nuclear device to either sacrifice themselves or deliver the come-from-behind bomb to the endzone.
-
Remember when many of us thought that Thor's costume wasn't all that great but it turned out fine. Most people haven't read any Iron Man comics so I have no sympathy towards the fundamentalist comic fanboys. I didn't like the casting of Ben Kingsly but this is a pretty good look for him. This is the best case scenario imo. Oh, and Iron Man 2 sucked and I'm not excited about this movie anyways.
-
IM: A+ TI Hulk: C+, incomplete, please reword the 2nd and 3rd acts for extra credit IM2: C- Thor: A CA TFA: C+ The Avengers: A The Avengers deserves an A even though I found it rough at times and didn't like it nearly as much as most people seemed to.

Awesome DC Films outside of 3 batman films and two superman films..its certainly possible.. for example:

The Phantom stranger love that story Alan Moore wrote for him back in the 80's..Dan Didio is currently destroying this character.. Sandman:for obvious reasons Preacher:again..obvious D.C./Warners.. if they had any consistant marketing talent..or huge enough balls, could set out to successfully develop and express the types of story's that marvel/Disney studios are plainly afraid to..marvel even refuses to go near and adapt one of their cash cows best, and most famous story arcs. (we don't want alienate the kiddies and old folk by taking our prized franchise into mature territory by making him a alki for 1 hour in a 2 hour movie..) D.C. has all the material necessary to be able to stand tall and apart from marvel by actively producing some powerful, evocatively meaningful films that have the weight and heart to withstand the test of time.By skillfully utilizing the best exponents from their wonderful catalog of story's created in the last 30 years, instead of watering them down and flat out running away from them like marvels currently doing.by creating trends instead chase them.

tony strark "is" iron man and vise versa, so your post makes no sense to me
by TheAwareness
he..doesn't have the same kind of schizim that batman or a well written spider-man has..marvel killed tonys duality angle at the end of IM1.. iron man 2 had no genuinely palpitate sense of dramatic gravity..just tacked on bits of "heart ake"that didn't serve to adequately develop the story beyond the action scenes in a satisfying manor. The narrative just feels kinda nebulous when looking at it as a fleshed out self contained story with actual "stakes" and not just a fluffy set up along the road to The Avengers.
-
more sense to have Chow Yun-Fat in the movie because he is a big movie star in China? that way the movie will be more accessible in that specific market. But what am i saying? Hey, if Liam Neeson can play Ra's Al Ghul, surely Ben Kingsley can play The Mandarin.
by Royston Lodge
Right?
-
I think Feige's explanation is a good one and a great way around a racial stereotype. By having Kingsley's character co-opt Chinese stereotypes and cultural iconography, they're saying that the Chinese stuff is a character affectation and an Orientalist one at that (someone who fantasizes about exotic Eastern cultures). Far, far better than a Chinese actor, which would have been awkward. And this is Ben Kingsley, one of the greatest actors of his generation, who worked with Patrick Stewart, among others in the Royal Shakespeare Company. Gandhi, House of Sand and Fog, Sexy Beast. Does anyone doubt he will bring the awesome?

With the exception of his oddly placed gay fantasies, I actually agree that Iron Man 2 could have had a lot more depth and more interesting character work. I don't think it was a bad film, just a little light without a good narrative punch or enough character depth. But creepy's read of what Hammer and Rhodes (and Stark himself) should have been is spot on. Maybe we'll get more of that in 3.

from CBM.com Taken from some schmuck who violated his N.D.S THOR: THE DARK WORLD - Thor becomes reunited with Jane who becomes possessed by a Dark Spirit, which is connected with the Dark Elves; a race the Asgardians have fallen out with many years beforehand [...] The Dark Elves attack Asgard, and they take a huge hit. So Thor has to rebuild Asgard by putting together an army to go and take the battle to the Dark Elves and defeat them. But the only way he can do this is – he needs to cross over to the Dark World, and the only person who has access to the dark side of Asgard is his old brother Loki, who at the beginning of the film is locked up in prison. “So what happens is Thor basically has to negotiate this truce with Loki, and he goes on this great trek with Jane, all three of them. They go to this far side of Asgard, which is being shot in Iceland, where they train and assemble an army to go and attack the Dark Elves’ world.” “But the exclusive twist…is that one of the things that happens during the Asgardian attack is that Thor’s mother gets killed. So it becomes like a vengeance thing. And they were keeping very tight-lipped about what actually happens with Loki, you don’t know whether he redeems himself or he’s still the bad egg.” IRON MAN 3 - “Well, there’s going to be a big fight sequence with The Mandarin, who’s the main villain, which will involve none other than forty different iron man suits. There’s an amazing rescue where The Mandarin basically wants to bring down the American government and kill the President, and he launches an attack on Air Force One. All of them – the President and his men and staff – get sucked out of the plane, and Iron Man rescues them by forming this amazing human chain in the sky. “There’s some pretty spectacular stuff that goes on. There’s an amazing sequence where he has this rooftop house that he builds to store all his Iron Man suits, and it gets attacked by The Mandarin and these gunships [...] I was shocked to discover there are like forty Iron Man suits written into this feature in various ways…so that’s going to be pretty impressive. But apparently he needs this Iron Man army to go up against The Mandarin’s forces.”

I agree that Terrence Howard was a better Rhodey. He was cocky and kind of a dick which is exactly what Rhodey should be, rather than a ridiculously dark, skinny dude (who speaks too calmly all the time and show no emotion) like Cheadle. Oh and how does Disney explain casting someone who is clearly NOT Chinese as the Mandarin?? There was a bunch of Asian crooks in a blockbuster like TDK (yet I don't recall anyone complaining how supposedly racist that might be) and yet having ONE Chinese actor play the Mandarin is NOT allowed? WTF is going on??
-
Yes Roarke wasn't used enough in it and putting him in a suit of armor was lazy and unnecessary on the part of the producers. Roarke should have been wearing the redesigned look of Whiplash in the comics: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b8/Whiplash_IV.jpg/250px-Whiplash_IV.jpg Roarke could have even dyed his hair green like Ledger did for TDK! ;) And killing Whiplash off just for the sake of big band at the end of flick was stupid and unforgivable. Tony and Rhodey should have simply knocked him out and hauled his ass back to Russia.

Iron Man would win!Bats could never fling his EMP batarang far enough, fast enough, or high enough. Tony would fly so fast and blast his batarang than take down the dark knight.
-
An actual Iron Man movie please. If there's one thing I really liked about the Avengers film it's that Iron Man is more interesting as an actual character. These types of movies tend to sideline the superheros for whatever reason and focus on little stupid things we don't care much about. I'll explain. Understandably the first iron man is his origin, so of course they couldn't possibly fill the majority of the film with iron man heroics, and they don't, they focus on tony stark's stuff. Then when it gets to iron man, the movie becomes a good film, but then it's over. See what I'm saying? Which is why it baffles me that the second film has barely any Iron Man in it. Lots of films do this stuff. Drama is nice, but I want to see the hero fighting bad guys etc. Nolan's batfilms are guilty of this too. Thankfully they're behind us. Let Iron Man be the central focus of this one, be subtle, have a message about what it means to be an Iron Man. Is it the suit that makes Tony Iron Man, or his cold calculating intellect. Shit.

Just the wrong fit for the comic book world.. Broke back mountain yes, life of pi yes.. Hulk no. Jesus Christmas the stink he left on that franchise nearly scuppered the whole marvel movie universe. -

-
Cuba Gooding Junior or Rockmond Dunbar would be a cool Rhodey too. Oh and I'm praying if there's ever a Luke Cage movie, Terry Crews gets the part!

But they seem to be on the right track. It's the first 'third' superhero movie which doesn't suffer from the usual 'multiple villains' crap that Spiderman, Batman (both 90's and Begins series), X-Men, Superman and the like all fell into.

Thank you Peter_Bishops... I wholeheartedly agree. Kingsley is a very capable actor who can pull off the ''intensity' of the Mandarin Character. He can do sinister, conniving and just pure evil very very well which is what the Iron man franchise has been missing.. a very strong Villain. Marvel has made many ethnicity changes in their characters. I'm sure this will not be the last. Geez.. get over it. No wonder it's hard to bring these movies to the silver screen when every little change is seen as sacrilegious. Nick Fury being black didn't change shit. Neither will this. The trailer clearly shows Marvel isn't playing it safe on the storyline. All hell is breaking loose. Stark was overdue for some humility. (By the way, Ang Lee's Hulk did suck..mightily...LOL. About as bad as Superman Returns and the melodramatics over him being a baby daddy. )

This is all very confusing. I hope Kinglsey's brings us the 'Sexy Beast' crazy/ominous while still being smart and diabolical. Hate to say it (and hope I'm wrong) but that Mandarin shot looks like those photos of people's unfortunate pets forced to wear their asshole owner's idea of a "hilarious" costume and then forcibly shoved (held down) into some awkward position so some myopically self-centered dickhead can take a thousand photos to show it off to their pasty faced, twinkie guzzling co-workers.
