By the pricking of my thumbs, The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day this way comes.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
If you want nightmare imagery, you picked a good day to click on this column. I will warn of spoilers if you haven’t had the good fortune to be exposed to the fantastic piece of “they made that for kids?” fucked up family genre fare by the name of Something Wicked This Way Comes.
So, if that’s you and you care about spoilers, bookmark and come back after you’ve made your world righter than it was before. For the rest of us...
Here’s a look at how the big bad of the story meets his end, with a little help from Mr. Stan Winston. It’s a great series of work-in-progress shots that ends in something that I’m 99% percent sure lives under your bed and is going to eat your soul tonight when you go to sleep.
Thanks to Dimitar Dimitrov and the Practical Effects Group. Click to enlargen!

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
In the morning, I’ll be heading out to destinations unknown. Tomorrow’s pic gives a not so subtle hint as to where in the world I’m going.

I rule. Nerds drool.

My favorite author and was a true gentleman. And this is a great movie.
-
Loved the library scene. Always reminded me of my grandmother's library in the basement of an opera house. That and the scene with Jonathan Pryce/Mr Dark with the boys drawn as tattoos on his hands and squeezing his fists until blood spills out.
-
Something Wicked This Way Comes is also my favorite Ray Bradbury novel. Disney had a streak of great live-action flicks during this time. The Black Hole, Dragonslayer, Tron, etc. Every children's movie should have at least one good scary scene. The tunnel sequence in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the mutant toys coming out from under the bed in Toy Story, etc.

So much work for this ended up not used: Delerue's score, CG circus train and entire VFX sequences. Suprised it turned out as well as it did.

Sixth (it's the new first bitches) Stunning artistry!!!! Stan was a sculpter on equal grounds with the master of old! That's not hyperbole. Quint, I have a platform bed so there is no "under" my bed...Thank god. There are draws come to think of it...God Damn!

... made at a time when studios made films for the experience, and were willing to scare the shit out of kids along the way... without outside interference or 'demographic' horseshit. I miss days like that. Not only that, but I honestly can't recall Jason Robards staring in a bad movie.. EVER. ALL his movies are worth seeing and/or owning. They always had exemplary supporting casts and well told stories to boot!
-
I still see that shit in my head when I open my curtains.
-
where he tears out the pages representing time "GONE!"
-
it says click to enlargen the Gods still hate me, fuck! oh well, carry on
-

I though this was supposed to be about some Macbeth movie! Damn your deceptive ways!!
by albert comin
Because, like, god forbid a geek enjoying a movie based on a Shakespeare play. It's not like it's supposed to be Shakespeare, right?
-
i don't remember where i heard this or who told me, but the scene where the kids are in the bedroom with all the spiders was additional footage done a year after principal photography. if you pay attention, you can tell the kids have aged a bit...

I'm a geek and I enjoyed the Playboy produced version of MacBeth
by tangcameo
Especially since it was in a class in high school and the teacher didn't bother to fast forward through the nude scenes - although zipping through the naked old witches scene would have been nice (blech!). Something wicked this way comes is probably the most quoted lines other than "Out out damned spot" and "When shall we three meet again...". Could've been a BTS photo of an old Miss Marple film.

@Mr tangcameo, i beleive te most quoted line would be "Is this a dagger i see before me?"
by albert comin
But the play is so damn quotable, anyway, hard to say which line is most popular.

Also, the playboy's version of Macbeth has a naked Francesca Annis when she was in her 20s. Drool!

Listen for the Imperial March in James Horner's main theme
by Nasty In The Pasty
He barely even bothers to disguise it.

Epicly embarrassing for a certain lying flip-flopper.
-
. . . this and Return to Oz would definitely top my ' They Made THAT for Kids??? ' list. After those, I'm not sure. Gotta think . . .

Now this is one horror movie that I would actually be excited for a remake.
by The_Credible_Hulk
Not that the original isn't good...it just could be so much better.
-
Love his work and it's truly a loss with his recent passing. This movie scared the crap out of me by mood and atmosphere alone...especially the bedroom scene. Haven't seen this in well over 15 years...maybe over 20 and yet I clearly remember that scene...have to pick this up!
-
The ending is just fucked up beyond belief.
-
movies like this, and Watcher in the Woods, and REAL CARTOONS!! when the artists run the studio, they might not make the most commercial stuff, but the projects had depth, and they influenced scads of artists who came later.
