What's The Latest On DEADPOOL?!?!
The Kidd here...
Not too long ago, it looked like a solo DEADPOOL movie was finally on a fast track to being made. However, things have appeared to stall since Tim Miller was hired back in April after plenty of rumors circulated about who might step behind the camera to bring the Marvel character to the big screen.
Well, Miller is talking, giving an update as to where DEADPOOL currently stands, and it appears that right now it's really up to the studio as to whether or not the idea for a film based entirely around him proceeds.
Miller recently told Nerd Reactor, "We’ve turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that–I’m confident–would get the fans stoked. And Ryan still loves the project. So it’s really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens–all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead."
Okay, so Ryan Reynolds is still in if the film is a go, and that go is totally dependent upon what Fox wants to do right now.
Come on, Fox... the ball is in your court. If the script is amazing, why wouldn't you pull the trigger? You just let Daredevil walk away for nothing... who knows when your FANTASTIC FOUR reboot is going to come together... and right now all you've got is the X-Men. I don't see where the difficulty of this decision really lies.

FOX doesn't have the balls to do a hard R Deadpool movie

Mr. The Kidd, are you seriously encouraging Fox to do a Deadpool movie?

Using DAREDEVIL and FANTASTIC FOUR movies as reference points, no less?? Even at imagination stage, this movie fucking sucks.

I hope everything goes back to Marvel

Axl Rose in it?

I'm surprised by your radio silence as to the recent departure of Rothman. Is it just the slowness of this site now starting a few years back or are you just being classy and not wanting to rub it in his face that you were right and he was wrong?

...otherwise Dredd 3D wouldn't have been the bomb that it didn't deserve to be. Deadpool is a great character for those in the know, but he's not Batman. You aren't going to get many 50somethings in a theater for a Deadpool movie. The movie *could* be great - but with every X-movie their film continuity gets retconned, revamped, re-imagined and now this is going to somehow erase the fanboy insult that was the end of "Origins: Wolveremo"? I can't keep up, and I don't know how much more the public will want to. If they really wanted to make some money they'd simply make a profit sharing agreement with Marvel so that these "families" of characters could share a cinematic universe. Wishful thinking.

THE KIDD - BEGGING FOR MOVIES TO BE MADE JUST SO HE CAN EVENTUALLY GIVE THEM HORRIBLE REVIEWS.
by Joe Dissolvo
Seriously. You think a Fox made Deadpool movie is going to be good? Its Fox. Scripts don't mean shit, and its not going to be the hard R rating it deserves. Its going to be a mess and borderline horrible if Fox decides to move forward with it, and make it a wide release. The film makers should partner with the studio making the game and just make tons of promo material for it, that way they can just do whatever the fuck they want.
-
Are we seriously taking it on faith that the script is amazing?
-

They shouldn't do a Deadpool movie if it's not going to be Deadpool (AKA the one in Wolverine). Don't bother.

Other than that, has anyone seen Lockout? The way Guy Pearce acts is DP spot on. His jokes are very similar. There has been talk that Joe Kelly wanted to write the script. If that happen this might be a movie worth watching. Unfortunately it will probably suck. Stephen Norrington is a better candidate for directing this.

ROBOCOP's failed retreat was also brought about by DREDD.
by Nintendarth
DREDD has been like a lightning-powered automatic guillotine to fanboy fever dreams everywhere. It's wonderful.
-
But the real world audiences have had their say, shown their power and they are FAR mightier than any fanboys.
-
I think Fox should have started off with a hard "R" animation on one of the cable networks to introduce the character to the masses and test the waters. I am thinking on the level of Afro Samurai or the old Spawn show. As it stands right now, if it is dependent on general movie audience's appeal for Ryan Reynolds then we might end up with a watered down version of the character again because they will insist on showing his face.
-
Nor is anyone excited by lobo or fucking robocop. we want quality not a drip feed of shit to satiate us. Dredds failure at the box office is an unfair comparison. marketing "3D" and dates screwed it. A great movie which stays faithful to its origins and core audience will always ( bar any other factors) succeed. I Hope that it recuperate it money via blu ray and dvd sales. BUt if it doesn't it will be assured of a cult classic status much like the original robocop does. Maybe one decent movie you can watch over again and again beats 3 shit sequels.

If someone can do a faithful Deadpool film and do it right....that would just be so awesome.
by Sean
Till then, it looks like the upcoming game will fit the bill. His treatment in the Wolverine film was just heart breaking. The bitter pill to swallow as well is that Rob Liefeld co created Deadpool, meaning he isn't completely pure evil. Damnitt!

It's a good movie. US audiences are lead purely by marketing, and as it had none, really, it tanked. Complete shame.

You're basing your dismissal of Tim Miller on his pitch to try and rally fans together to get THE GOON made? Do you even know who he is? Stephen Norrington is a better candidate? Only on the internet, folks.
-
The movie sucked, but the idea behind Deadpool in the movie I thought was a neat way to do the comic character, incorporating the disfigurement, ultra healing, teleportation, and "swords." And it's easy to see how that kind of experimentation would play with his sanity, and assume they figure a way to get him talking again, I think I'd be more interested in seeing that character develop into Deadpool then just seeing another martial artist assassin.
-
The whole Wolverine:Origins movie is long forgotten. People will need to be completely reintroduced to the character. Secondly, Ryan Reynolds is box office poison. His Freddie Prince Junior 15 minutes is up and over. Thirdly, R-rated action movies are out. It's too expensive to risk appealing to such a small market. The under 18 crowd makes up huge numbers of people who actually bother to go to the theatres anymore. Fourth, A Ferris Bueller style comedy/violent action film is shit.
-
This movie would be fucking awesome...ands screw anyone who thinks differently(mostly loud mouths who havnt had the privledge to read this jewel that fox, purely out of their own fear, greed, and stupididy wont give this the green light it ..they had rob rodriguez ready at the helm to to make this something memmorable if they would'uv let him have the "hard" R it dersved, but they balked at that. .so they could adaqutely could market/ sell toys of a deformed psyco killer to the kiddies................. hell its the same reasion that aronofski walked from "The wolverine"

Evidently the new archetype for "hero" is interchangeable with "douche-bag." I guess they're both clean shaven with a strong jawline. But how about a douche-bag who's also a great actor? And isn't Deadpool supposed to be kind of gritty? Are they just going to give Reynolds a 5:00 shadow? Speaking of gritty, I'm looking forward to seeing a new actor playing Wolverine someday. Jackman is kind of a sweety pie-- Wolverine should look like he could be a garbage man. He shouldn't be pretty, and he shouldn't cry all the time. End of rant.

Unless Fox has secretly started working on a new DD film already, the film and tv rights revert to Marvel this month.
-
Oh, you mean the Snake Plissken who's not in on the joke. Right. Ryan Reynolds did a very good Deadpool, except the writers of the script in Wolverine: Origins obviously hated the character and weren't afraid of telling the audience that every five minutes through surrogates.

First: they aren't going to do the Deadpool from the comic
by MichaelH
No big name actor is going to let them obscure the face, at least not for long. So they'll put in dismemberment and regeneration, but he's still going to be handsome, which takes away the insanity. He'll be kooky and spooky, but it won't be Deadpool. Given that Deadpool is the Sarah Silverman of comic book heroes, do we really want the studios doing for movie superheroes what Sarah Silverman has done for the Obama campaign?
-
They definitely need to recast Green Lantern. But Deadpool is totally in Reynold's wheelhouse. If they do this right, this could be groundbreaking hard R 4th wall-breaking superhero/assassin craziness.
-
We are now doomed to PG13 comic movies forever.
-
Rehashing a bit, but I am a fanboy and definitely don't want this movie to happen for several reasons: 1. Ryan Reynolds, as has been said, is box office poison. 2. Ryan Reynolds is bland. He isn't bad, per se, but he is bland... he is the male Jessica Biel. Not interesting at all. 3. Deadpool is a crazy, hilarious guy with a messed up face. Even if it isn't Reynolds, it will be someone wanting to show his handsome face. 4. This movie seems like a sure flop destined to please no one. It will be made to attract the non-fanboys and will not please the fanboys. 5. There hasn't even been an animated Deadpool that could be violent, hilarious, maimed, etc. It would build interest and test the waters at the same time. Just NO!

Write a Respectful homage to the character and they will come!
by Ryan Kinsel
Marvel proved that if you do the character justice and make the character faithful to the source material then audiences will come in droves. The best thing about Deadpool, in my opinion, is the character breaks down the fourth wall and talks to the audience at times, and it works because the character is crazy. Deadpool is the audience and people will relate and be drawn into the character. Deadpool: The crazy assassin! Bring it on!

Deadpool Video game is awful, and the version in Hulk v. Wolverine is a joke
by kdoc13
Got an advance copy of the video game. It's a fun game, but not a great one. And the Deadpool character isn't even close to the comic books, it's not a good representation at all. Then there's the Wolverine v. Hulk movie. Terrible version of him there too. I just don't think anyone outside the funny-book writers know how to write him well. Kind of gives me a bad feeling about any movie version.

re: Actor won't let themselves be masked... *points to V for Vendetta*
by VAwitch
While perhaps Hugo Weaving's voice is a bit more recognizable than Ryan Reynolds', major actors will allow themselves to be covered. Now - will the studio? Who knows. I think they might be able to make a PG13 Deadpool - but it'll likely be a careful cut to avoid an R. That said - I can't see Fox greenlighting a final product - they've been screwing up this franchise for a while, aside from "First Class".
-
First time I've completely disagreed with him. There is no need for a Deadpool movie--especially one starring Reynolds. (And this is coming from a Reynolds fan.) This should not be made--or at the very least, recast Deadpool and do not base it on the version that appeared in 'Wolverine'.
-
He also stole the show in the end credits scene that was a sold mix of being both very cool and extremely creepy.

The best way to retcon that terrible X-Men Origins:Wolverine adaption...
by TheMachinist
Would be to adapt X-Men Origins:Deadpool. It's a good comic, and the little bit at the opening with the directors would work well. Say something like "You'd better not give me eye lasers."
-
I'm starting that campaign now.
-
And fox doesnt have the balls to do it and ryan reynolds would be fantastic in this role. Breaking the 4th wall throughout the whole movie making jokes as he decapitates someone really hope this happens
-
I wanna make sure it's for the right reasons. If anyone's fucking this up, it's Fox. Ryan Reynolds (who generally bugs the shit out of me) actually did a decent job as Deadpool before they turned him into that bullshit "Dudepeel" monstrosity at the end of "Origins", and he has come out as saying that he is a huge fan of the character, and that he did not appreciate what they did to him in that film. The script, from everyone I've talked to who's read it (and quite a few people on this talkback), is apparently great. From the description I was given by a friend (who's about the world's biggest Deadpool nerd), it sounds like over-the-top, fourth-wall-breaking, straight-up comic book Deadpool, and even includes a direct write-off the "Origins" horse-shit. I know I'm echoing some other commenters, but I just want to make sure everyone knows: Reynolds isn't the problem, the script isn't the problem, Fox's inexplicable desire to ruin every Marvel license they get (I haven't seen "X-Men: First Class", though people seem to like it) is the problem.
-
They deserve each other

The proper term, from what I recall, is Barakapool.
