The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day is gonna be pissed if he sees you screwin’ around! C’mon! We got shit to do!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

I ran a Friday the 13th Part 3 photo recently and spouted about my love of the movie there, so I won’t go over the same territory again, especially since that opinion isn’t exactly common amongst horror fans (whereas we can most agree that IV and VI are about the best of the sequels).

But I do have a really fun picture from the making of Friday the 13th 3-D that I wanted to share, featuring a young Stan Winston posing with actors Steve Susskind, Richard Brooker and director Steve Miner, with Brooker in an early version of the uner-the-mask Jason make up. Granted, Jason looks a little more like a Dick Tracy villain here than a mentally handicapped, semi-undead psychopath, but it’s still a grand photo.

Stay tuned afterwards for two more BTS pics as I play catch up (I owe you three, Friday, Saturday and today).

The first HOUSE scared the shit out of me as a kid and the second… well, didn’t really scare me, but it was perfect for kids. It’s really silly and features undead Cowboys, crystal skulls and Bill Maher, but damnit, I still kinda like it. Call it nostalgia if you want (and you’re probably right), but I like it.

Here’s a picture of make up being applied to the big bad guys of House 2 and, if I’m not mistaken, it’s being applied by one Mr. William Forsche (turns out I am mistaken! Gasp, shock! That is not Mr. Forsche, but rather Mike Smithson applying the make up. Apologies, Mike.). Here’s the pic, click to enlargen!

Finally, I have a picture of Humphrey Bogart applying his own make up for one of his only forays into sci-fi/horror, The Return of Doctor X. Apparently, Bogart disowned this film, feeling it was one of his worst. I wouldn’t disagree with him on that, it’s not very good, but it is fascinating considering just how much of a legend Bogart became.

Thanks to Peter Osteried for sending this one along!

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.

Now we’re all caught up! Tomorrow’s pic will thrill you.

    House II

    by DrSherlockHouse

I totally agree with the House II assessment. I LOVED that flick as a kid, big time. It's funny, I've never been a horror guy. But, when I was a kid, I watched a lot of it, and most of it not the big time mainstream stuff, though I was obsessed with Freddy and watched all of the nightmare movies. The ones I loved though were House II, April Fool's Day, Creep Show, Tales From The Darkside (which the succubus sketch from V/H/S owes some credit to), and The Twilight Zone. I will also cop to watching two separate Slumber Party Massacre flicks, though I'm fairly certain my interest in those lied less with scares and more with boobs.

    F-13 3D

    by NixEclips

Weird, considering the amount of time you actually see the Jason make-up, that they made such a big deal over it. Winston sculpted and painted his design to best translate to the 3D format and it was scrapped for ... whatever that was that ended up in the film.

    Quint...

    by Sandy

I'm with you on Friday the 13th Part 3. I used to be one of those who thought it was crap, but a number of years back I took another look and ya know, it just seemed...fun. Part 4 was at one time my favorite, but I can't go back and enjoy that one as much as I do Part 3. 4 is the better film overall, but 3 just has that classic 'popcorn' horror movie feel. It's fun to have a little something to drink and talk to the screen when you know somebody's about to do something dumb and Jason's about to chalk up another one, even though you've seen it over and over. I'd even go so far as to say Part 3 is now my favorite of the series. Hmm....ya know, I've got a copy of that one in 3D now, as it was meant to be seen...think I may have to throw that one in the machine here soon and sit back with a bucket of popcorn...

Might want to get the facts straight...

    by Bob

You are mistaken...the make up artist on House 2 is none other than Mike Smithson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0810480/). Bill Forsche didn't work on that film.

What has happened to this site?

    by DrGogol

Return of Doctor X isn't very good? Why? Because Bogart didn't like it? He didn't like it because he felt he was above the material, but he still gave it all he had because he was a professional. And it's a good performance in, if nothing else, an interesting film. What's really hilarious is the production company-mandated shoot-out ending that was tacked on specifically because Bogart was making a name for himself as a gangster character. There are some great horror elements in Return that I think get ignored. They give a scientific explanation for vampirism that borders on body horror. It's pseudo-science, sure, but it makes a silly sort of sense. AICN used to be about appreciating these kinds of films. Now I don't know what kind of site this is. Disappointing.

One of the writers disagrees with me on a film! How could this happen? Every post on every film site should be 100% in line with my opinions, otherwise I just don't know, man...

    You sarcasm is noted, tjcoolguy

    by DrGogol

But you fully missed my point. Film appreciation isn't liking everything I like or even liking everything. But, you know, it's cool you have an opinion. Go with that.
