NYCC has a special 1-sheet for Arnold's THE LAST STAND!!! Much Love!
Hey folks, Harry here... I visited the set of THE LAST STAND early this year and got to see quite a bit of the action in the film. Getting to meet Kim Jee Woon was awesome, I've been a huge fan of his films from South Korea. From A TALE OF TWO SISTERS to his A BITTERSWEET LIFE to THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WEIRD... I just loved his work, but then I SAW THE DEVIL hit and seriously... wow. Such a great film. THE LAST STAND will be a different tone from that, but Kim Jee Woon and Schwarzenegger have been cooking up something fun for his return to headlining films. And... how cool is this New York Comic Con poster?

I just hope he has a line like, "You shouldn't drink and bake."

Bantha fodder.

I just don't buy Arnold as the sheriff of a small bordertown.
by Stifler's Mom
Then again, I didn't buy him as the governor of California. He should stick to playing giant robots, that's more his wheelhouse.
-
Arnie has a type.
-
....much sloppy blow jobs supporting this film until it's released and then, when it's a flop and everybody hates it, followed by lots and lots of backpedalling. You knows it.
-
Arnold looks cool in a drawn format, which in this poster looks almost like comic book art. It makes me wish that some crazy filmmaker would do an action film in the style of Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly. Film it with Arnold and other actors, then paint over it in the style of this poster. That would be an interesting way to do an action flick. That rotoscope style hasn't been done for a film like this.
-
I have some quarrels with the poster, but I'm so ready for this shit. BRING IT.

I predict this movie will be surprisingly good
by Turd_Is_Floating_Underneath_The_Gravy
Of course, you won't get an honest opinion from Harry's biased ass, larded as it will be with 'pwesents'. However, I'm betting that this will be a minor action classic and pave the way for bigger and better things from Herr Schwarzenegger. He's got something to prove again, and when Arnie has something he wants to achieve, he usually does.

looks like a page from the 'Arnold Schwarzenegger Coloring and Activity Book' http://www.amazon.co.uk/Color-Me-Arnold-Unofficial-Schwarzenegger/dp/091639798X

The trailer for this that showed before Dredd was amazingly bad.
by Ironhelix
I mean, just about as bad as anything I have ever seen.

Anyone remember the Mad Magazine parody of Terminator 2???
by kindofabigdeal
I believe it was called Interminable Too: Misjudgement Day. Arnolds character had a talk bubble that went something like: "I'm a commando, not a kindergarten cop. And what's more, I have total recall." His character shamelessly plugs all his other movies. At the end he says something somethings a raw deal. Dont know why I thought of that.
-
I hope the movie is better than it looks from the trailer.
-
but yes, I have a hard time buying Schwarz as a small town sheriff. Harrison Ford would have been better.

That looks badass. And good call on the white space to balance out all that stuff that's going on.

And while it's always tough to take Arnold as a tough guy after all the politics and tabloid wife/lovechild horseshit that gossipy twits around the world love to twist between their greasy nicotine stained fingers... ..that's still a kewl poster. And while I have yet to see either Expendables, Arnold will always be welcome in my personal hall of cinematic badasses. After personifying some of my favorite cinema characters, he's earned it and then some. Wish I could say the same for Ozzy - I still see him as a bathrobe wearing wealthy derelict with that drill-sergeant pitbull wife's hand up his ass squeezing his heart so tightly that he keeps living like a 'metal' muppet...and yet, as a kid, he was the Prince of Darkness, the Madman whose musical diary we all knew so well, the writer of songs all young musicians learned first, the lunatic who would disappear and shave his head, sending the hair to his wife in a box without a single word. sigh - it's one to learn your 'heroes' or 'inspirations' are just human, another entirely to learn they're not only human but rather pathetic as well.

If I went back in time to 1985 and told someone Arnold was still making action movies in 2012, they'd probably laugh at me

Was about to make a joke about that... can't look past the douchbaggery of that double credit.
-
Sucks... I love classic Arnold but unlike Stallone who can still kick your fuckin' ass (for real) - Arnold looks like a joke.

Hipster poster, but is it really portraying the vibe of the movie? Does the pink and aqua blue represent the punk culture of the film's quiet U.S. border town?

I know that he remains popular with homosexuals, and that's cool and everything (not judging), but I think that he's mistaken if he thinks that he still appeals to mainstream audiences.

I teach art, and I'll make sure to use this as an example of using too many filters (aka bad art) in context with a movie's narrative.

This was a mis-step. He needs to get back into bodybuilding and do King Conan
by Chuck_Chuckwalla
There's nothing else that I'd rather see him do.

Not sure why this site covers NYCCC but hardly mentions Dragoncon. Dragoncon blows it out of the water.
-
i hope theres like some gun shooting in this.

The shantytown shootout would make 80's John Woo proud. And the final chase, as "the good" guy shoots his way through an army...

I saw the devil??? Oldboy Oh-Daesu playing a rapist serial killer???
by garagons
Its just one scene of "I can't believe they went there" after another. A deadly game of cat-and-mouse. In which they both have knives
-
...Was an awesome time at the movies. Wonderful world that was created there. I didn't know that Jee-Woon was the director of the new Schwarzenegger movie. Reading that fact just sent up my interest in this project ten fold.
-
That is part of the reason this film looks like fun. Arnold in this type of role is fun because of how ludicrous it is.

turd -- what do you think of my idea of a Waking Life style rotoscoped/animated action film starring someone like Arnold?
by lv_426
Done in a cleaner style like the above poster though.
-
I remember that. It was great. My favorite bit was a panel that showed the cast running from a gigantic explosion, and at the bottom it said: "Cost: $1.2 million. Stuntmen killed: 3. Audience Believability: 0.0%"

hate, Hate, HATE that poster! Completely wrong tone.

'Nuff said.

I could be 100% wrong, but I won't be watching this. ever.

He screwed California. He screwed his nanny. He's not cool anymore. Saying "I'll Be Back" on Leno is like George Burns doing schtick at this point.

lv_426, sounds like it could be cool
by Turd_Is_Floating_Underneath_The_Gravy
Maybe they should do an animated Total Recall sequel in that style? It seems to fit the tone of trippy 'unreality' that Philip K. Dick-inspired material engenders. You could have a Total Recall sequel that maybe flits between live action and that style to really mess with people. Also, who really gives a fuck that Arnold screwed his kids' fat nanny? It's not like he raped underage girls like Polanski, spewed anti-semitic rants like Gibson, or murdered anyone, is it? I don't give a fuck about Arnold's personal life (unless he does something truly abhorrent). That's all personal stuff between his family and himself. I just want to see him in good movies again.

The only important NYCC news this year..... Coulson lives!
by cookepuss
Great surprise for those of us in attendance.
-
That's what I thought when I saw his mug in this poster. After all the plastic surgery, (and some black lips), Arnie's looking a lot more like Tamburini and Liberatore's Ranxerox. Would be a cool idea for a Hard R movie...

I'm kind of surprised the chaingun-wielding bus from the trailer didn't make the poster...
by Bill C.
I guess they had to have that bitchin' Camaro, though.
