Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Today’s shot is pretty great in that you can see a real proto-AICN. It’s no secret that Harry’s personality was more than a little influenced by Famous Monsters’ Forrest J. Ackerman. In fact, if you go back and find some old Famous Monsters issues and read Uncle Forry’s words you might think Harry’s 4e’s illegitimate son (and if you’ve never met Father Geek and seen the obvious resemblance you might start demanding to see Harry’s birth certificate).
Forry was unapologetically fanboyish in a system that frowned upon it even more than it did when Harry began Ain’t It Cool. Not only that, but he was a collector. Boy was he a collector. He let his geek flag fly and truly is the father of modern day fan-driven blogs.
So, knowing just how much Forry loved this stuff and worshipped these genre actors today’s photo really does fill me with light and warmth. It was taken on the set of The Raven (a really fun and funny flick, by the way), directed by Roger Corman, and shows Forry showing off a few Vincent Price-centric issues of FM to… well, Vincent Price.
