See The LINCOLN Spielberg/Day-Lewis Q&A!
Nordling here.
I can't wait to see LINCOLN. Duh. In the meantime, the film screened for some students and teachers tonight, and a Q&A with Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis followed. I have to say that this was one of the more impressive Q&As I've seen, with intelligent questions and responses. You can tell that Spielberg and Day-Lewis are immensely proud of their film. I want to see it yesterday - how could I not, like Quint I'm a bonafide Spielberg freak. I think we duel it out on which one of us loves the Beard more. Still that crusty seaman has met him, while I as yet have not, so he wins. Here's the Q&A!
LINCOLN opens November 9th.

Great. I think I'll pass. If it's as historically accurate as the abortion known as Munich, you're better off watching Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
-
What in holy fuck happened with that movie? Why is it being so highly praised by every critic on the planet? While the acting and technical aspects are beyond reproach, that movie destroys itself with its final 45 minutes! I'm not someone who often complains about a movie being too long, but was there any point in the movie going on past the motorcycle scene? After that sequence, a previously brilliant character-driven drama becomes a hopelessly pointless, meandering, self-indulgent pile of prune-stuffed oranguatan shit! Am I the only guy who felt this way?

a biopic about The Smiths/Morrissey. He's kind of got a Moz-ish look about him now.

I will see this film Lincoln by Spielberg but I will NOT vote for that lying piece of shit of President that Spielberg supports.

Munich is essentially a scene-for-scene remake of Sword of Gideon which starred Steven Bauer and was also based on 'Vengeance' by George Jonas. Tony Kushner kinda-sorta adapted the book but he mostly just 're-wrote' the teleplay of SOG basically. Joaquin Phoenix is going to win best actor for The Master, hands-down.

We could make this into a drinking game. Every time Spielberg gives Danial-Day that "What the fuck are you going on about?" look, everyone takes a shot.

I kid though, great video by of the masters. Thanks to AICN for putting up the link.

Yes, and Vengeance is a well known fraud. I truly think Spielberg fell for it, but I don't cut Kushner the same slack. His equivocation of terrorism and counterterrorism is right out of the playbook of those who would love to see a second Holocaust. With the exception of the massacre and the depiction of Operation Spring of Youth, literally nothing in the film is accurate. So, no thanks on Kushner's latest "historical" drama.
-
While ddl looks amazing here, the best actor race is joaquin phoenix's to lose. His performance is seriously the stuff of movie legend, as bare and destructive as acting gets. Too bad that movie is a letdown.
-
Yeah i'm not saying any of Vengeance is that historically accurate, just that Munich was a remake of Sword of Gideon, and when you see the original TV movie and then Munich, it's very evident that Spielberg just used Gideon as a template while shooting Munich. Much like Brett Ratner clearly used Manhunter and Silence of the Lambs to a lesser extent while shooting Red Dragon.
-
...I just think it's weird (maybe tragic or infuriating are better terms) that both of Spielberg's forays into historical drama with Tony Kushner involved false or highly questionable source material. With Munich it was Vengeance, and with Lincoln it's adapting known plagiarist Doris Kearns Goodwin's book about Lincoln. Were all of the real historians out to lunch?

Yeah but Spielberg has always been more about the mythical aspects of any of his films and telling an engaging story rather than being historically accurate
by Deaft0ne
Schindler's List and Amistad are woefully inaccurate historically as well. Although Schindler's List is a hell of a great movie and Amistad was shit.

That's the point in the video you can skip to to avoid the dull moderator's banal and overly long intro.

There was no need for the the interviewer to announce Spielberg and his credits, or even the man himself - just bring the bearded one on. There has been great word of mouth for this film so far, so heres hoping.
-
Purse your lips into a nice tight pucker and them place them firmly against my asshole and suck and keep sucking until my colon prolpases out of my body and runs down your troat and gags you until you puke, you fucking faggot.

People want to know. Actually, they don't.
-
A restrained Spielberg, a restrained Williams, masterclasses in acting from Day-Lewis, Jones, Strathairn.... can't wait. Of course the Oscar will end up going to a high-end TV movie like Les Miserables or Hitchcock. Fuck the Oscars.

Let's keep the politics out of here gentlemen. There are plenty of douches in Hollywood to bash.
by kindofabigdeal
For instance, have you guys heard that Fox put a halt on the sequel to Chronicle because it wasn't an exact clone of the first one?
-
OwebamAA+ said he would do it back in 2008. And you believed him. Now you claim it cannot be done. So what was it that made you 'come to your senses' over the last four years?
-
Maybe I didn't. And trust me, it's a movie I wanted to like. And my problem with the movie has to do with the meandering nature of the last act. I don't see how anything the movie had to say wasn't served by everything up to and including the motorcycle scene. Can you explain anything about the ending? Why does PSH sing "Slow Road to China"? What is served by the sex scene in the end? I thought the entire last 45 minutes of that movie was an assault on my patience. And no, there is no callmeroy2 to my knowledge.
