Are You Curious Enough To Check Out The New Trailer For DJANGO UNCHAINED?!
The Kidd here...
The second Quentin Tarantino announced he was doing his next film, I was psyched. The moment I finished reading through the script for DJANGO UNCHAINED many months ago, I was sold. Watching the trailers for the film... well, that's just icing on the cake.
The Weinstein Company premiered the new trailer for QT's "Southern" tonight, and, while the overall framework of the story remains the same, it's quite clear Tarantino has changed some of the details along the way from that early draft. And surprisingly it may be for the better. I burned through those pages with the quickness, as once again rich characters and intelligent dialogue pull you into this world he's created... and he may have somehow even improved upon that.
This is what I'm waiting for under my tree on Christmas morning.
DiCaprio looks really damn good as the villain for once... and Samuel L. Jackson... and... oh, damn. This whole thing has amazing written all over it.

Tarantino is laughing *with* the colourdes in all his movies, not at them
by Mugato5150
He can use the N word because he's being ironic.
-
He steals a lot, but he gets great performances out of actors and his movies always look great. And he's never made a bad movie. Death Proof could've been better, but it was still better than a lot of other director's movies. I would love to see Quentin remake High Risk. It's a movie that's relevant today and it's a movie that a good director can really turn into a great movie.
-
Jonah Hill? Huh? The rest looks pretty darn good!

even the trailer makes this look like typical selfindulgent tarantino

Too much dialogue. Too many self preferential crape. Queentin where did the genius who made reservoir dogs go?

Kildeer1, Yeah, cuz Reservoir Dogs didn't have a lot of dialogue in it.

Tarantino is expanding from crime movies, so what, he made as good a films in that genre as possible. He's expanding. And I'm telling you, I read the script, it's awesome!

That's who Samuel Jackson is playing, right? Uncle fucking Ben?

To ruin it, I assume.

IT LOOKS LIKE EVERY OTHER SELF INDULGENT MEDIOCRE MOVIE TARANTINO HAS MADE SINCE KILL BILL!!!!
-
It would have been better if they made the J silent instead of the D.
-
Logan_1973, the Reservoir Dogs/City in Fire issue is about the writing, not the direction. Also, the two movies are wildly different. Reservoir Dogs takes the same premise and explores it from a completely different perspective, to the point that, despite some superficial plot similarities, it tells a very, very different story.

I'll see it just to witness Leo smiling onscreen for the first time in over a decade. Looks like he's finally loosened up. Guy can be charming when he's not caught up in fits of angsty manliness. (I'm not counting the 18 frames during which he let go a smirk in one of INCEPTION's early scenes with Ellen Page.)
-
Jonah Hill being in this is as bad as Mike Meyers in Inglorious Basterds.

You are what you love, and Tarantino loves fun movies. Whether he crips from other films or not, it works to his advantage
by Bobo_Vision
That's why he's infinitely better than his colleague Kevin Smith who also rose to fame in the 90's, who has an undying love for Degrassi Junior High.

There are any number of cameos/bit parts being filled by famous actors in this, so what's wrong with his? Can you provide us a reason beyond "he sucks!" or "he's not funny" and get more to the heart of the matter with something like "I didn't buy his transition to dramatic material in Moneyball" or "He reminds me of my loser cousin therefore I can't stand to lay eyes on him"? The hit and run comments don't give your opinions any validity. Give us a big WHY and we'll listen. I know what you're saying about Mike Meyers, a guy known for impressions, trying to play a straight role, kinda detonates the reality of the scene... but I don't get the parallel. Tell us?
-
Damn. I forgot. You're right. "Catch Me if you Can" was his last charming role and easily within the last decade. What a great film. Great score too, very original. And it was the last time Kaminski did great with blaring sunlight schemes. Though it didn't hew to the true story of Abagnale, it was a great fictional cream puff of a pastry...
-
If the trailer is a sampling of DiCaprio's amazing acting and character transfornation then... He will definitely get best supporting actor! Evil Ed says Obama 2012
-
One of the greatest directors of all time. I'll admit I haven't liked every movie of his, but I feel the same way about every director. However, he delivers the goods. That's like saying Steven Spielberg is a crappy director because he's made tons of shit like Hook. Get over yourselves, pretentious talkbackers. The man is good at what he does. Your comic book guy sarcasm of predictable shots and complaints of dialog are nothing more than petty annoyances. If you truly hate his work, I feel sorry for the 99% of crap you are forcefed to see on an annual basis.

That Jonah Hill bit was horrible. Please QT, give Jonah another mill and cut his scenes.
by Tank Williams
Watching the trailer, I was excited. Jonah hills scene came up, and it was like the biggest fucking buzz kill I've ever experienced. So out of place and flat out goofy. There is enough star power in this film to bring in your average viewer. So why the fuck Jonah hill?? Bad casting choice if you ask me. Having said all that, this movie looks amazing and you can bet your ass I'm seeing this
-
I agree. That was a weird cameo indeed. He was actually good in that role, but point being it was bizarre. Almost like an episode of SNL.. How many stars can we squeeze into this thing! Personally, I'd like to see QT work with up and comers. He's made dynamite stars outta several actors.

It's the execution that is to be admired or derided, chumps.

TARANTINO...UNORIGINAL? PLEASE. EVERY NEW MOVIE IS BASED ON AN OLD IDEA. QT KNOWS HOW TO BREATHE LIFE INTO OLD IDEAS.
by Wacky Packages

I'm in.
-
would be "The Gold Watch" sequence; The sublime, and undoubtedly his finest work, "Jackie Brown", and obviously "Reservoir Dogs", but that was a Quentin Tarantino of another place and time. Now a lot of his films are derivative - and that's just the soundtracks. I don't mind filmmakers quoting or referencing other peoples work - i mean, it's that invaluable pecking order that filmmakers of today always succumb. But a bit too much over indulgence is a killer for originality. Although i enjoyed "Inglourious Basterds" and will likely be tickled pink by Mr. Django, i just wish he would drop the over-referencing and deliver something from the deeper resesses of his "Own" imagination. There is probably another Pulp Fiction in there somewhere.
-
Oct. 11, 2012, 4:07 a.m. CST
So Tarantino's movies are not derivatives although he steals from other movies?
by frank
but other movies from other directors are? you hypocrites with your double standards. Tarantino is hugely talented both as a writer and a director but to call him original is a joke.
-
I don't think Jonah Hill can single handedly ruin a Tarantino film. Is he the guy in the script that DiCaprio shoots to steal his black slave lady? In the script I could imagine Jonah Hill in that part.
-
Jackie Brown is by far Tarantino's most underrated classic.
-
Don't call me a hater because I hope I'm wrong. I genuinely hope the film is a blast. But I can't see any reason to get excited by the trailers so far. Nothing remotely witty. A whole lot of camp. Bad taste masquerading as cool. A grindhouse plot.
-
Can't wait to see in in the theater opening weekend. Funny thing is everything I read seems to be what I envisioned. Should be good times.!
-
Yeah, he takes from other movies--that's his style. And he makes it work, the only measure of success. Shakespeare never told an original story. It's all in the method, and the guy is superb. Can't wait.
-
Oct. 11, 2012, 6:06 a.m. CST
saying Quentin is unoriginal must mean that Hollywood is full of fresh new ideas.
by UsultheMahdi
-
Proof: The history of film.
-
...that it's bad, but it is a fact. It is how you re-tell and present these stories that matters. Chaplin influenced Tati, Lucas was influenced by Kurasowa, DePalma was influenced by the New Wave camera-work, etc. To just call Tarantino "the most unoriginal director out there" is an ignorant statement. The unoriginal directors are the ones wasting their talent on major tent-pole franchise films. Tarantino has never been one of those, nor will he ever be. Take your "unoriginal" comments outta here.
-
As any other national cinema. They do tentpoles, but tons of smaller stuff as well. Film, stage, novels...all play off each other, hugely. It's part of the game, actually. "Literary" writing does this very deliberately, echoing previous works for the delight of the tiny audiences who will get the references. Tarantino's fiercest defenders are cinephiles who "get" the references, and how he recombines them. That is his style. I know of no one who does that particular thing better.
-
I was a little let down when I heard Jamie Foxx got the role over Idris Elba & yeah even Will Smith. But damn that looks good!
-
Oct. 11, 2012, 7:48 a.m. CST
Ya know why QT is the man, even if he "borrows" ideas?
by Kentucky Colonel
Two words: NO SEQUELS! (Kill Bill=one long ass movie)
-
Apart from a few scenes in Kill Bill, I really can't think of anything he's done wrong. He makes great-looking films with amazing dialogue that actually deliver and reward the viewer. And his films are fun as hell. I'm REALLY looking forward to this, but I've held off reading the script this time, even though it's sitting here on my hard drive. I read the scripts for Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds before seeing the films, and I'm not sure that was a good idea. I'd rather go in with some surprises left.
-
Oct. 11, 2012, 8:37 a.m. CST
so hipshot you do agree that Tarantino's movies are derivatives of other
by frank
movies, no?
-
And Jamie Foxx's acting looks much better too, though the "D is silent" delivery still feels false to me. Everything else though looks great. Sam Jackson as Uncle Ben for the win.
-
Will drive certain quadrants of the audience insane. Compare the number of films about the Civil War with the number of films dealing with slavery, from the slave's POV. Or the number of films dealing with the Holocaust. This is no accident. You still have Conservatives bleating about how slavery was a positive, benign institution as opposed to the horror it was. It will be fun to watch and see who gets offended by this.
-
Except for the fact that many of you just hate Jonah Hill outright. Like someone said up above, if that was Chris Penn, you guys wouldn't be complaining.
-
laughed all three times i watched it and he said it Damn straight, where's my bong? Is it Friday yet?
-
Somebody had to say it.

dont let him be Tarantino. Jackie Brown, his greatest masterpiece, is the example of that.

If you've read the script, you know the scene Jonah Hill is in is comedic...
by Gabe Athouse
...and he'll make it work. Don't compare it to Mike Meyers in Inglorious Basterds - that was a mistake, and made the dolts in the audience laugh at an inappropriate time. This isn't that. And, yes, it's that characters only scene. (Spoiler!)
-
I'm in.
-
I didn't laugh or see anything wrong with that scene. I thought it was a nice bone to throw to Meyers since that Indian curry-swelling shitfest of a movie he tried to sell us. Quebec Pizza?...that's the best you could come up with?
-
I hope Jonah Hill gets a best supporting actor nomination for this role you fucking whiners.
-
I cant imagine anyone not 'In' on the whole Tarintino thing thinking anything other than, "That shit is actually a movie?"
-
it was a bit more punchy. I hope we get a real film this time though, as opposed to something that's self conciously trying to be cool. Loved the musicsnippet from the original Django at the end though!

Tarantino officially has no idea what he's doing anymore. He entere self-parody with those awful Kill Bill films, and he's reached a new level of confusion here. This looks so completely embarrassingly bad, but I'm sure it will be a hit and people will call it brilliant. Sad.

Yeah, I'm in agreement with the Jonah Hill criticism.
by DanielnocharismaCraig
I just can't take this guy seriously as an actor. At all. I just have visions of him partying it up with Michael Cera and Mclovin' during Superbad. Yeah, it sucks to be stereotyped, but at least he has a job. And a well paying one at that! Tarantino might as well have cast Paul Reubens and get more dramatic impact. I seriously hope this movie is straight up comedy. Like Blues Brothers. That's the only thing going for it at this point.
