No LOUIE
Next Year!!
FX just revealed in via conference call that the fourth season of “Louie” won’t hit the channel until spring 2014.
Series mastermind Louis CK appears to be following the model innovated by Larry David with HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” building in lengthy hiatuses to maintain quality control.
Like all right-thinking Americans, I see this as a good thing.
The good news is CK sees the series going on for nine seasons (which I guess means we’ll see a series finale around 2022, if everybody eats right and exercises).

I think AICN moves some 1st posts to 2nd...just to fuck with us.

everything good makes you wait too long and delays in between episodes. Make people wait and they might stop caring. Just an opposing viewpoint. Louie can do whatever he wants. Good half hour comedies are hard to come by.
-
ya fuckers.

"Don't disagree with this or you're ignorant". I actually don't care. This is the first season of Louie that I've seen. I really enjoyed it up until the final episode. That episode was poorly put together aside from the present opening bit. Kill Posey's character for no reason other than to be indie-ish. Oh, the girl I've been infatuated with just bit it? I'll sleep it off in an airplane terminal then go feel like more of an outsider in China which is totally against character. No sir, I didn't like it. Take your break, Louie.
-
I like it when people die. I laughed really hard.
-
A good call. Louie is my favorite comedian...and I adore his FX show. But considering he has been writing every episode as well as preparing new stand up material every year for the past 3 years...he needs time to recharge his batteries. And he needs to lose a bit of weight...
-
The Sarah Connor Chronicles should suddenly come back for season 3 after 4 years of hiatus. But no, only funny middle aged guys with different kinds of belly glaze get that luxury.
-
One of the best shows on tv.

Maybe the melancholy of the finale mirrored his real life state of mind.

Louie is supposed to be mentally challenged, am I right? I really can't see it any other way....

At first I was going to yell "Nooooooooo!!!", but quality control makes sense, and I like that Louis CK has complete control over his show
by Bobo_Vision
Unlike the fiasco with a certain comedy over at NBC.

To fully understand the reason behind Liz's death in the finale, you need to remember back to one of the stand up segments from the pilot. In it he lays out that he just knows too much about life to enjoy dating. His punch-line was about how you can meet someone who completes you; who is your sun and stars and who completes your sentences and is everything a souls mate can be ... and one day they are going to die and you will end up alone, and that is why he cannot enjoy dating. Take that stand up bit and apply it to the the season 3 finale. What you now have is no longer 'indie' but fucking BRILLIANT!!!!

The whole david letterman thing, really should have been a season long arc. In many ways the season felt unfocused except for the last 4 or so episodes. But I must say Parker posey's arc was amazing, and the way it ended was kinda shocking, It's a shame she won't be in season 4
-
Seriously......they blew their wad on Charlie fuckin' Sheen for Chrissakes!! By 2014 all their good dramas will probably hit the skids and their comedy block will be 4 hours of Anger Management........
-
I love those eps.
-
is the casting of the ex-wife. She's black and the girls playing the daughters are the whitest children on television. Am I missing something here? Is Louie just f@#$ing with the audience?
-
12 year old kid in huge glasses just sitting with his hands flat on his thighs all season. Laughed EVERY time I saw him. Not thrilled to wait an extra year, but it is what it is. This is one of the most original, inventive, and rule-busting shows on television in a loooooong time. Having David Lynch on it was a nice nod to Twin Peaks, another one that fits that description.
-
The ex-wife being black is probably a metaphor for black baby mamas.... because they're usually black. And they want all your money and they had a bunch of kids. And they want your money cuz youz the baby daddy.

that last episode was totally meant to be a 'christmas' episode.
by soup74
good call on FX not waiting and airing it as a 'holiday special'... we have enough depressed people during the holidays.
-
Am I missing something here?
-
weird, my post went mental. anyways. yes. you did miss something. his wife is white. she's played by a black actress.
-
And he's said in the past that the casting is a little goofy, and not to take it literally, or too seriously.
-
You should have been here back in the day, when the talkbacks weren't even in chronological order. Now THAT was a cluster. There was even a time when the talkbacker names were in bold and the subject line was understated. It was cool - a good way to really get to know the regular "characters."

I will miss it, but if it means keeping the quality high, it's okay.

Parker Poseys new year exit was just incredible.

You Sarah Connor people are every bit as annoying as those Carnivale morons - JUST SHUT UP ALREADY
by gruntybear
Quit whining because your pet genre show didn't finish its planned run. You're accomplishing NOTHING by bringing it up practically every fucking week and it's getting ridiculously annoying. Back on topic, I'm slowly coming around to seeing the quality in Louie. I still think the Nan's stand-up is mediocre; but the melancholy tones captured in the Louie television show feel honest and truthful in the same manner that many of his jokes feel forced and stilted.
-
Lynch and Posey made the season for me too. Hope Louie's kids don't have beards by 2014.
-
Does louie just have one sister or like 4? At first i thought maybe he had several because its always a new actress but then i wondered if he just recasts the role anytime his sister needs to appear I think he did that with his mom as well, and whatever happend to his brother? I friggin love this show because it doesn't follow any set rules

Am I the only one who noticed this series gets less funny each season?
by Fries Against
First season was hilarious. After that it was "Look at me, Hollywood, I can be a serious director! Look how I use moody music over and over! Please forgive me for Pooty Tang! I want to be taken seriously as an artist! I don't mind working with directors who are into Asian pedophilia."

friesagainst - ummm, I hate to say, because I love his sensibility and viewpoint, but he may have peaked with season 1.
by openthepodbaydoorshal
Bought season 1 on dvd. Returned season 2 after a month. Just didn't hold up to repeat viewing IMO. And not like what I'm hearing about this past season....
-
That movie is a piece of shit classic!!!

Hey I'm not dissing Pooty Tang! I just think Louie is ashamed of it.

Red in his ledger.

Louie should devote some of this time off to work on the Pootie Tang Extended Director's Cut.
by Fries Against
Maybe convert it to 3D, add some Channing Tatum.
-
But I'm all for quality control. Season 8 of Curb was well worth the wait. I hope he does some more stand up in the interim though. I think his stand up is superbamazing. Whats the best moment of Louie so far? Gotta be the Anti-Masturbation league discussion. Although the wife likes the Afghanistan/duckling one

This season was too self-indulgent.. too many pretentious episodes with little or no laughs. I appreciate the effort to broaden the show but puhleez!

The parking meter sign in NYC was hilarious. The Robin Williams episode was funny. The fat kid Never was good and the Letterman Arc was solid and the scene where he was watching the daughters open the christmas presents while he had the flashbacks was funny. Other than that this season was not funny or interesting and I say this as a huge fan of the show.
-
Louis has said that there is no continuity in the show, other than his daughters. If he needs his mother to be alive in one episode and dead the next episode, he'll do that. If he needed a sister in season 1 and needs a brother in season 2, he'll do that too. His ex wife being black and his kids being white, is just the latest example of this. (Actually, Amy Poehler as his married sister was probably the latest example)
