Emily Blunt & Ruth Wilson battling it out to play Ms. Marvel in AVENGERS 2?!?!?!
Hey folks, Harry here... So whom would you prefer as Ms. Marvel?

Emily Blunt?
or

Ruth Wilson?
as

Now - none of this is confirmed - the story broke out of the UK tabloid world. We haven't heard that Ms. Marvel will even be a part of AVENGERS 2... but it absolutely makes sense. We know that a shit ton of Alien tech has just been dumped upon Manhattan from AVENGERS... we know that the S.H.I.E.L.D. series is dealing with some of those issues. We know that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will definitely expand the cosmic side of the Marvel Movie Universe - and that Major Carol Danvers became Ms. Marvel due to Alien tech issues. Specifically Kree Alien Tech.
More to the point, Ms. Marvel would add a much needed super powerful badass female to the AVENGERS... someone that can punch big baddies and look hellahot doing it. (Sorry watched some old South Parks yesterday)
Does this mean we're going to be getting CAPTAIN MARVEL? NOVA? I'm just so excited to be getting full on cosmic Marvel filmmaking coming up. I really hope this comes true - and personally, I'm rooting for Emily Blunt, just because she rules in everything she does!

They both have a Captain Marvel. There was a lawsuit about it like 50 years ago. it's why he is called shazam now and not captain marvel.

Hoofin' on a BLUNT!!!

Not for quoting South Park.

I guess these are both fine though. Plus, samuel fulmer may need some glasses

The costume designs are going to have a field day with her costume. I really don't see them going the route above. But who knows. Maybe they can pull it off. I forget where did the costume come from anyone know?

Liked Ruth Wilson in Luther for sure, but between those two it'd have to be Blunt
by Wcwlkr
I don't really see Ruth Wilson play Ms. Marvel, Emily Blunt I think would be pretty great in the role. But honestly I could acutally see Charize Theron in the role I think she'd be great.
-
The short hair on her now looks awful so does her new costume.
-
Sure Tom Hanks would be happy ...
-
Yeah, it seems like Scarlet would have made a much better Ms. Marvel and Emily a better Widow. But neither of these girls is big enough to play Carol Danvers. Christina Hendricks would be a MUCH better choice!

On the one hand it's the daily mail. On the other it's Ms. Marvel. I doubt the daily mail knows who Ms. Marvel is. Anyway between the two, Blunt. Easily. Ruth Wilson is Maxima if MOS2 goes there.

Not an omnipotent alien like Superman, though. He has the rank of Captain in the Kree army and his name is Mar-Vell. He was sent to Earth to study us. He'd fit in well with the Cosmic Marvel Universe. Sadly, their big arch-enemies are the Skrulls, who should have been the alien bad guys in The Avengers but Fox still owns the rights to them. Bastards.

Neither. Forget this pretty-young-white-girl nonsense and lets' have the black female Captain Marvel.
by kevred
Ms. Marvel is a boring, redundant character, just a female knockoff of the likes of Superman and Thor. Her powers wouldn't bring anything new to the table. It'd just be a lame way to insert more hot young white-girl flesh into the fight scenes. For Pete's sake, is Hollywood this afraid of a strong, independent black woman? She's got interesting powers, would be a nice contrast in just about every way, and would help avoid the Buffy-ization of the film, which is very much still a threat to be deterred, no matter how successful the first film was. Show you've learned something from Alba-as-Sue-Richards, Hollywood. Please.

Going to be tough going getting me to attend. As for Hendricks - ughh. She was last Hot looking in 2 Firefly episodes. If you are looking for totally untalented, go with Don Draper's wife.....What's her name ?
-
By all means , let's get Will Smith for credentials. Let him sink another movie. Number what is it by now?
-
The Chitauri were the Ultimates version of the Skrull though in the film they were more generic aliens. That's fine I guess. But Ms. Marvel's origins are tied to the Kree and the Kree are tied to the Skrulls. Now if Marvel and Fox can do a deal to get the Skrulls back, it's not an issue. The Kree-Skrull War would make for a good Avengers film and after the events of the first film, Earth being caught in the middle makes more sense, especially if you introduce Thanos pulling the strings. Then you've got the paranoia as heroes are replaced by Skrull agents, Captain Mar-vell's loyalties being tested as he doubts his superiors...there are things you can do to make it a really interesting film. But do we really need Thanos restricted to cameo appearances? The chances are, even assuming there is an Avengers 3, it won't feature the likes of Iron Man, at least not Downey as the character so while building up to Thanos in a third film is a good idea, Marvel might be wiser to get the most of the talent they have while they have it. You could certainly alter Ms. Marvel's origin to have Thanos be responsible for her powers rather than Kree technology, maybe tie it in to the infinity gems but given how close Marvel have been to the comics with the basics, it's hard to see them making such a drastic change.

by TheSeeker7
Not saying she's totally unknown or anything, of course not. But for as insanely sexy as she is, it's not nearly equivalent to the recognition she gets for it.
-
I don't expect Emily Blunt would be all that interested. Plus, Marvel Studios in known for trying to be frugal with their casting. Blunt is a big enough star to call for a sizable paycheck. Whoever gets the role of Ms. Marvel/Warbird will likely be someone they can get on the cheap, who is willing to start out on TV before moving to film.

Sorry but good acting isn't enough here, neither her face nor her body are comicbooky enough. Although i just HATE Jessica Biel: She would look great in a costume, as did Rebecca Romijn in happier X-Men-times (although that was not a costume by definition, anyway: an athletic body is important here).
-
Fights The absorbing Man?
-
She looks like the character, is statuesque, can act, and is a big enough movie star to be an audience draw and stand up to the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and company. Along with Ms. Marvel, I would like to see a SHIELD-affiliated Avengers back-up team. Maybe Wonder Man (Nathan Fillion?), Ant-Man/Hank Pym (Fury's resident sci-tech genius), the Wasp. Other possibilities might include Vision and Scarlet Witch, her brother Quicksilver, etc. Keep the original team in the fore-ground and use the B-Team as back-ups and cameos. Just an idea.

I'm sorry but Marvels cosmic stuff is 90% horrible. DC is muuuuuch better with the space stuff.
by MariusXe
Yeah yeah, I know... Annihilation and Thanos Imperative... Yadda yadda. So boring to read. Even mediocre Johns Green Lantern kicks Marvel cosmic stuff to the curb. Marvel should stick to their guns and do the Heroes like us thing they are good at. Street level and science heroes suits them much more (apart from Thor and Galactus as a big bad maybe). Let DC do the space stuff. Nova is such a bad character, it pains me to even think about him. Urgh.

Emily Blunt & Ruth Wilson battling it out to play Ms. Marvel in AVENGERS 2?!?!?!
by Alvin Lee

Blunt is wrong for this to me, she had her shot as Black Widow and didn't take it, if it was Scarlet Witch, I might see it but neither of these two seem right for me. It's interesting cos you have Sharon Carter being cast at the same time and I always though they might end up retconning/amalgamating the two characters. I heard Emilia Clarke (Khaleesi from GOT) was up for Carter but to me she seems right for Ms Marvel, all you could say is maybe a tad young. I get that Marvel have to have decent actors in the 2nd wave cos eventually RDJ isn't gonna be there. But do we have to go for "It Girl"/Fanboy picks every role? Wonder Man to me could be a great character but is the only one who should be a "big" name and it should be Dwayne... Instead of an actor make him "The Rock" of the Marvel Universe, a guy who fights, wins, acts off the back of it and it's all a way to use his power and hide. I can see why they are going with Ms Marvel, but she of all of them doesn't need to be a "name". Save that for someone like Wasp (Zooey Deschanel all the way)
-
Nothing against these two, but they are not Carol.

2/3's of whats in british newspapers is pure bollocks, so I wouldnt class it as true at all unless Marvel etc say something. Plus fitting her origin into Avengers 2 could ruin it, it would basically be Avengers fight Kree, Danvers gets hurt but gains powers, turns up at the end to make the difference and help win the battle. Cant see it, unless they introduce her in the Shield TV show, she gets her own movie or the origin happens during GOTG and the end credits have her in costume.

@mariusxe, I'm wondering if Marvel isn't specifically trying to undercut any future potential DC space-themed stuff
by kevred
You're right that space isn't Marvel's strength, and they completely mop the floor with DC in the 'heroes like us' category. So why would they be suddenly veering into outer space, with a villain that isn't exactly the most obvious choice? Maybe it just comes down to licensing, with some of their best candidates for storylines and villains tied up by Fox & Sony. Could just be that simple. Or maybe they're looking down the road to a Secret Wars blowout. Maybe. But once Marvel does Thanos on screen, Darkseid's going to look like some kind of knockoff. Once they go to outer space and feature warring alien species, crazy human/alien/animal/robot protagonists, and team-ups that cross over between worlds and races, a lot of DC's best potential is going to suddenly look like a retread to the public. DC's already way behind on establishing their movie universe - they're stuck in skipping-record mode with Batman, and everything else is nowhere (unless Superman changes this). If Marvel pulls off the cosmic stuff, with properties that resemble DC's, it could put DC behind by several steps, maybe permanently. Or to put it more simply: someone's going to make some money off of cosmic super-hero tales. Marvel already knows it can make money with the regular-world stuff, so they figure, why not us?

British tabloids are known for making stuff up all the time. They said Lindsey Lohan was going to star as Batwoman a couple years ago.
-
Got to agree that Marvel should make a good, gritty, street-level Heroes for Hire movie. Luke Cage and Daniel Rand fighting super-powered thugs and street-crime. Black Panther would be a great stand-alone movie, could lead to a later Avengers appearance for T'Challa, truly the best black super-hero, in my opinion. Doctor Strange would be a cool addition to the Marvel Movie Universe. Other possibilities: The Inhumans (would be better if Marvel had the rights to the Fantastic Four for this related property). The Defenders (could be presented as a B-Level alternative to the Avengers, sort-of a non-team of misfits). What about a Daredevil re-boot? Who has the rights? Looking forward to Captain America 2 with the Falcon. Would like to see Cap fighting both street crime and larger enemies like Hydra. Marvel rules the silver screen for superheroes. DC?Warners need to get their act together. If Marvel continues the way it is going, they will certainly dominate the superhero movie biz.

Problem for DC is they're weak outside of the usual 2 and perhaps Wonder Woman, the rest aren't anywhere near funky enough to create interest...
by steve lee
...Marvel usually have a better executed, more hip with the kids and less stuffy variation even if they aren't the original. For example: Hawkeye infinitely cooler than Robin Hood extra, Green Arrow. Namor has a sweet Vulcan do and ears, AquaMan has hideously garish duds! They just ain't got the cred, Daddio! by ChaunceyGardiner
-
I've been a supporter of Yvonne as Carol Danvers, but now that someone's mentioned it, Tricia Helfer is my new favorite. She can do glamorous, hot, and she has the gravitas to actually make you believe she's a kickass pilot in the military.
-
Don't we need some solo films first before we get into all this? Also, is there going to be a fucking raccoon starring in the next Avengers? Just wondering cuz I don't see that working.
-
In real life, she looks like Miranda from Mass Effect 3 minus the ridiculously perfect ass. On the other hand, Charlize Theron is a natural blonde and happens to be a big enough badass to play Ms. Marvel. So whoever suggested her -- good on you. As for Rita Wilson v. Emily Blunt, Emily Blunt has serious butt chin and Rita Wilson has a mean case of evil face. Either one could do the part justice, though. Rita Wilson's got a pretty awesome sarcastic smirk on her but Emily Blunt's more comic book sexy. Personally, I'd prefer Rita Wilson to play Jessica Jones and Emily Blunt to play Spider-Woman.
-
Couldnt be worse than Johansen as BW. Neither is right for the part, but at least maybe Avengers 2 will have a strong female. Emily Blunt couldve done BW or Scarlet Witch. I guess they want cosmic, but Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are far more interesting.

-
Watch they flip Nova to a chick. Or they flip man roles to female. Just do She Hulk...duh....
-
I've always thought Amanda Seyfried would be a good choice for Ms. Marvel. That being said, I think adding this character as the next Avenger is a risky move (not a BAD move necessarily, but a risky one). The reason for that is that--if I'm understanding correctly--her powers are partially the result of being exposed to another (not yet introduced) character. Therefore, it seems that either they'll have to do a rushed introduction to Captain Marvel or they'll have to do an origin for her that's not faithful to the comics. I'm all for a hot female character--and certainly Ms. Marvel fits the bill--but I hope they do it right. I'd almost rather they go with Spider-Woman. While I acknowledge that she was created at a time when female versions of existing superheroes (in this case Spider-man, duh) were a simple and arguably lazy way to add new females, at least her origin wasn't dependant on her male counterpart. Plus, with Spider-man in the hands of Columbia, it would be a way for Marvel Studios to show that THEY would do with an arachnid-based hero. Just my two cents.

-
..would be I think, a huge mistake. Let's explore the dynamic of the existing team and get to know them a little better first. Overcrowding a comic book film gives you Batman and Robin's and Spiderman 3's...and nobody likes those!

@iamlopanureggshen69, you seem to have overlooked that I'm talking about FILMS. MARVEL STUDIOS FILMS.
by kevred
I know there are several (not a lot, but several) black characters, even black female characters, to choose from. Storm's a great example - in the comics, and in a film series that Marvel sold the rights to. The issue I'm bringing up is, why can't Marvel's own films - not the Fox X-Men films - go there? That, to me, would be more interesting than just a Scarlett Johannson 2.0 that could be in the same fight scenes with Thor and the Hulk. Because let's be honest, that's what Ms. Marvel is. My concern isn't PC - it's just boredom with the Buffy-ization of seemingly all genre fiction. I'm fine with seeing strong female characters. But not little white 20-year-old pixies that are as strong as the Hulk. They don't cast little skinny petite white guys as the strongest characters. Give us some strong Amazonian women, or else different types of powers (as in, the Captain Marvel I was suggesting.) Be creative - that's what I'm asking for.

@iamlopanureggshen69 - kudos to you for referencing one of the coolest films ever in your screen name.

One of the most fun times I've ever had in the cinema was seeing that film. Love it.

Johanson was far too stubby for black widow, short and stocky is not good with a super hero costume, long and lean is the way to go. "You're all so petty.....and tiny."

...for once in a Marvel movie, hire an actual blonde to play a blonde, and the same goes for redheads. I'd love to see Strahovski in anything, but I think someone was right when they put Ms. Marvel in her mid 30's, so perhaps Tricia Helfer would be more appropriate.

I disagree. Long and tall? Really? Yeah, because all those Olympic gymnasts and weightlifters are 'long and tall', right?

Seriously, wungo, Strahovski's not a real blonde. HER EYEBROWS ARE BLACK.

She's not even trying that hard to convince people she's blonde. It's like you guys have never heard of hair dye. While we're at it, Christina Hendricks and Emma Stone are actual blondes in real life.

you are the first person to notice my handle, and it is one of the most awesome and under-rated movies of the 80's.Thank you for recognizing bad-assness!
