If the food doesn’t kill the Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day, the service will!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Today we are looking at a pair of pictures that give us a close look at a very recognizable prop for Freddy nerds. In the admittedly lesser, but still fun, Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, directed by Renny Harlin, there’s a scene where Freddy appears to the lead at a nightmare diner and sees the delivery of what is known as the “soul pizza,” which has the trapped souls of his victims as meatballs.
It’s actually a really effective and creepy effect that was done with a combination of cinema tricks… from real actor’s faces in close up screaming for help to a big, special effects pizza with mechanical faces. Thanks to the Practical Effects Group we have a close look at the front and back of this pizza, so you can see some of the mechanics put into this sequence. Click to enlargen!

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s pic is coming. Be afraid.

Cool. I always liked the one with the heroin addict whose track marks were like little mouths. An accurate depiction of addiction.

NOES 4 is one of the BEST in the series, shit I'd say it's the truly last great Freddy movie. I love the group of kids, all different, but they work well together. It's got a KILLER soundtrack and the best effects of any Freddy movie. The goddamn roach transformation is worth the price of admission alone!

Hey, you guys wanna see a really awesome movie trailer from 1987?
by Bobo_Vision
Sorry for being off-topic, but had to share this. Malone, starring Burt Reynolds. Hadn't seen this trailer since 1987 and it's even more awesome today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZM05b6nPhk

That had a face in the pizza singing ''pizza man, pizza man'', i'm pretty sure the house they lived in was on an old Indian Burial Ground. Anybody have any idea what the hell that film is?

and that scene scarred me for life as a child

"Malone" definitely has IMO, one of the greatest taglines of all time.

I have little more then contempt for this movie. It's the Renny Harlin effect.
by albert comin
It's the first Freddy movie where stuff started to get goffy and for the pun, instead of the straight horror movies of the previous movies. And the worst for that. In fact, it's the first Freddy movie where Freddy becames the main character, instead of his victims. The only good thing i have to say about this exacrable movie is the lead actress Lisa Wilcox, who plays a very sympathetic role, and who does give the movie a dignity it doesn't deserve. And as anybody who watched the feature lenght documentary "Never Sleep Again" knows, she turned into a mega-hot super-MILF of total babedom! By the way, the Renny Harlin Effect is when a movie should and could had been so much better if not for the misguided choice of the director who ends up fucking up needlessly. It is also known as the Michael Bay Effect (and JJ Abrams is this close to also give his name to this phenomenum as well, thanks to "Super 8").

Number 4 is great, and Harlin ain't so bad. Check yourself.

My buddy and I use to crack up over the VHS box art. So much that I found one and gave it to him for Christmas. Burt's face on that cover is priceless. As for Nightmare 4... sorry I'm on Team Jason.

I'd still eat that. More pizza places should offer souls as a topping.

Dominos does, but it's the exception.

If only people from this past decade and beyond still took the time to CREATE amazing practical FX instead of just having some shitty 22 year old college intern create bullshit on a computer, we would be looking back at a movie from 10 years ago and saying how cool it looked instead of saying how dated the CGI looks. Of course, some practical FX looks dated as well, but at least you had to have some talent in CREATING them instead of pressing fucking buttons on a keyboard.

I actually enjoyed it as a kid, but the series overall doesn't resonate with me anymore. I can still watch the Friday series (not that one, Smokey) with great affection. That being said The Dream Master has one of best posters of the series, but sorry Vinnie Vincent Invasion, you're no Dokken. We're the Dream Waaaariaaahs!
-
I don't say such things light-hearted. "Dream Warriors" is mediocre and unworthy of the "Nightmare On Elm Street" name, and Renny Harlin can go fuck himself, the talentless hack! It's such happy tidings he is no longer helming big movies and he's now only relegated to cheapo direct to video movies. Karma, sweet karma!

Malone was a disappointingly unfaithful adaptation of the novel by Samuel Beckett.

Also, the soul pizza scene, with pepperoni, meatballs, and puns. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZJsCD489lY

while Part 3 will always be my favorite, partly because it was my introduction to the franchise, this is the Nightmare movie i've seen the most often and the one i watch most when i'm in a Freddy kinda mood. its the first one i saw in theaters so that probably helps but i think its because this came out when Freddy mania was really at its highest. when i think about Freddy, this is the movie i think about. this is the physical look i always picture in my mind when picturing him. and it also contains what i feel is the best looking glove of the entire franchise. someone before me said something like this was the last good one....you know, thinking about it thats pretty true. while i enjoy it more today, Part 5 was definitely a step down and part 6 is an insult not only to the franchise and the fans but to movie making in general. i know we all how different tastes but how anyone can find anything good in that one is beyond me. Part 7 is more stand alone so it worked fine for what it was and didnt have to live up to anything. then of course the Vs. movie was fun and i still love it but it wasnt a pure Nightmare movie. so yeah....4 is definitely the end of an era both figuratively and quality wise.

And that pizza looks pretty good actually. Mmmm...pizza.
