STATHAM! The Trailer For PARKER!
Nordling here.
There are no words that can equal a Statham-punch. All I'll say is that Taylor Hackford directed PARKER (based on the Donald Westlake novels), which is something of a surprise considering the movies he's made before now. And Statham's exaggerated Texas accent made me LOL. Seriously, I said "LOL" when I watched it. Thanks to Machinima for the trailer:
PARKER opens this January.

I admit a lot of brits are good at our accents, but when they suck, they suck bad

Just don't even, man.

Is this the movie where Statham plays a guy with marital arts skill who goes seeking revenge due to a double cross?
by Gutshot Clown
If so, I heard it was good.

Stupid enter button. I was asking where is the trailer for Movie 43???
by kindofabigdeal

All is forgiven.
-
They already did these books with Mel Gibson and screwed the pooch. Pass.
-
loves me some statham but not enough to put up with that hack over publisized reality star!
-
She's well fit. And Jason Statham is good at what he does.

Um, I am pretty sure that Texan accent bit is supposed to be funny, why else is it in the trailer?

Looks like he's in on the joke to me, I mean look at that hat for crying out loud.

Sucks that it'll take another 15-20 years before someone makes a noir Parker story. Cooke's graphic novels are amazing and do the books justice, these failed attempts are just horrible.
-
Yep. Jennifer Lopez is a deal-breaker for me as well. Won't see it.
-
Seriously, Statham can't act his way out of a paper bag but he fights real gud. He's the Charles Bronson of this generation.
-
another reboot to Spider-man. You know it crossed your mind!

As a big fan of Westlake's books and Darwyn Cooke's aweseom graphic novel adaptations...
by captaincosmos
... I just wish someone would actually make a fucking Parker movie. This just looks like more Statham. And while I think the guy's got talent, I don't think he's the action god many try to make him out to be. I think he's capable of far more than he's delivered thus far. Why not just call this an "original" story for a Statham project, and leave an honest-to-goodness Parker adaptation to a producer-director-star that actually respects & understands the source material and gives a shit. Still... it's got J-Lo in her undies, so I'm sure I'll catch it on cable at some point. BTW - Clive Owen (who could probably pull off a passable American accent) would make a FAR BETTER Parker, imo.

@a_j_pennypacker. Nothing that a few more packs of no-filters and a quart of J.D. wouldn't fix

That's Nick's breakfast regimen, or so I suspect.

Lol. I'm serious but... lol.

I like it better when this was called Payback. Or was it Point Blank?
by openthepodbaydoorshal
And I don't know if movies are looking more like tv series, or if tv series are looking more like movies, but that looks like a promo for an upcoming USA network series. Even the name Parker sounds like a tv series name.
-
And I know it won't happen, but I sure would like to see more of J-Lo undressed!
-

Looks eerily similar to Mel Gibson's Payback, only that character was PORTER

And Lopez looks to be a long way away from her Out Of Sight days.
by openthepodbaydoorshal
Remember, she was damn good in that. And a standard actioner being released in January? Surprise!
-
Burrito taco taco! Burrito taco, taco taco!
-
Not sure if you're kidding or not, but just in case you don't know... Both Payback and Point Blank were adaptations of the first Parker novel, "The Hunter." This one is an adaptation of a much later novel in the series called "Backflash." During his lifetime, Donald Westlake -- aka Richard Stark -- refused to allow any adaptations to use the name Parker for the character. Now that he's gone, that rule has been lifted by his estate. Seeing this trailer, I think that those of us who love the books wish that Westlake's policy had been maintained.

Chiklis I meant, not Chicklis. Sorry Vic. Don't punch me. Man... I miss that show...

Good villain, Lopez looking a lot like Out Of Sight days. I'm very down.

Looks like every other Statham movie. However, in his case that's ok.
by moonlightdrive
Thank god for Statham otherwise we wouldn't have any action movies like the halcyon days. Shame JLO is in it though. Way to ruin a movie.
-
You were half right mtoast. It's based on Flashfire.
-
What was his name again....Parker, Posey, PORTER! Yeah, seems to me to be a remake of PAYBACK which was a remake of itself anyway.

The touching story of a single father desperately searching for his young son's lost parka, in the midst of the worst winter in years.

Please God up there in Heaven with Pol Pot, Sammy Davis and all the lads, please can you stop Jason Statham making any more films.
by Baron Von Penguin
-
...then you'll never see U-Turn or Out Of Sight. YOU LOSE. I don't like her much either, but she can act fine.
-
Here is a better solution: Don't watch them since nobody forces you to.
-
so he is not missing anything there..
-
...but as we all know, opions are like assholes. Asshole.
-
Statham films are always worth watching... ...just not at the cinema. This one looks good for a rental tho!
-

wow, an asshole calling someone who is stating a fact, an asshole.
by Jack Black
now that's a first.
-
Hackford is not a very encouraging name for a film director.
-
There was nothing remotely Parker in this trailer! I'm re-reading the Darwyn Cooke adaptations, they're brilliant.
-
It were called "Mackey" and Chiklis was the lead. And this is what Mackey was rushing off to at the end of The Shield.
-
Oct. 3, 2012, 2:31 p.m. CST
Hackford directed a small bit of this at a TV station I was working at last year.
by jayhest
Really nice guy. They filmed a news story about the robbery that is supposed to play when Parker wakes up in his hospital room.
-
Mmmm, Posie. Statham has GOT to break out of this formulaic rut, or he might as well get on the bus with Snipes and Gooding, Jr., and relegate himself to straight-to-dvd work. Boy did he look bad in that wig. Seriously, he's got to have enough cash by now to be able to exercise a little creative control. I can't imagine doing the same thing over and over is fun. What a waste, I always thought he showed great promise. I don't mind Jennifer Lopez, but South Park has forever tainted my image of her. My name ees Hennifer Ropez...
-
The Bank Job showed Statham can do more than standard action schtick. Too bad he's in autobot mode for this film. I was hopeful Hackford would try for a genuine noir. But the trailer shows the film has none of the tone, nuance or flinty violence of the books.
-
Never thought I'd see that line-up in a film before. So what would happen if J-Lo and Statham became a couple? Jatham? Jason-Lo? Jasiffer? Or Chiklis and J-Lo? Chik-Lo?
-
I will see this...
-

I will see it...when it comes to Redbox on a rainy drunken night
by SlyWalker
-
I'll never be able to enjoy this movie now that I know she's in it. Oh well, I've only read the Darwyn Cooke stuff but Statham is not who I'd picture as parker, the dude that played Hawkeye in Avengers would be more to my idea. Doesn't preclude me from enjoying a straight up Stahtham actioner but god I hate JLo, what an insipid, desperate attention whore she is.
-
Funny to hear his music in this trailer.
-
Boo to MC not being credited in the trailer, though. I'm guessing this is going to be a somewhat more comic (in its way) entry in Jason's filmography, if decidedly 'Payback'-ish.
-
I have seen.
-
I should've listened to my gut and Googled that fact before I posted. It's been a while since I read the series. I knew it was one of the post-haitus books with "fire" in the title. I had a one-in-three shot and I blew it. Oh well, too bad that this movie seems to have nothing to offer a real Parker fan.
-
Oct. 3, 2012, 5:21 p.m. CST
I think I could do a pretty good job of cutting together this trailer from previous Statham films combined with a few shots from Out of Sight.
by Ray_Tango
Talk about deja vu.
-
No worries, mtoast. I had looked it up earlier. I haven't read any of the post-hiatus books (although I do own them). I actually stopped when I got to Butcher's Moon as it was impossible to find without spending an absurd amount of money. It is now like 4 bucks on Kindle so I have an excuse to read the series again and go all the way through it this time.
-
...Amen, brotha! That would be perfect!
-
Tho it might be correct to say "I LOL'd", in the same way that you might say "I coughed", vs "It made me cough" when you actually cough as opposed to sit there saying C.O.U.G.H. And thus, my work here is done.

Parker, Transporter, Commuter, Left Indicator, Drifter, Fast lane hogger,
by Fireflybck
Some existing and future Statham movie titles
-
But it might be smart and true to the Parker series. Looks like they combine a couple. The first story and the one where they complete heist a gambling island resort. Statham is fun to watch.
-
Talking waaaayyyyy toooo much. At least in this here trailer. Maybe if they crammed in every last bit of Parker's dialog for this trailer. Besides Parker doesn't have rules. He is about the score, period, end of story, the end.
-
Them making out in the shower better be the very end of the movie....cause Parker doesn't bang except until after a successful job.
-
Don't pretend you don't. It's a known quantity. You know there's basically a certain level of enjoyment from him and his movies. He's one of the few actors I'll check out anything he's in.
-

No need to see this, just watched the entire film in the trailer
by Swordfleece
-
I imagined she considered herself a "real" ackteuer and now she is doing a movie with a mere action dude.
-
We need more Statham flicks to continue enjoying in January and April.

Jason Statham is Jason Statham in Jason Statham: The Stathaming
by Stegman84
Get your Statham on! Seriously though, this looks nothing like Westlake's Parker and everything like just another Jason Statham movie, albeit one with a slightly higher budget and slicker, more hollywood look than usual. Looks entertaining enough on that count, but not good enough to pay cinema prices for.
-

I redbox'd SAFE and it was a fun watch with a 12 pack of PBR
by Deaft0ne
It's essentially a clusterfuck mashup of Mercury Rising and The Professional but very watchable and The Stath kicks major ass whilst smirking as aways.
-
Fact.
-
I don't mind Statham; he has grounded himself as a feasible action man, but i just had to laugh at the ridiculousness of the texan attire and accent he was sporting. And Nick Nolte always looks as though he is on the verge of death. The film looks like another piece of formulaic cinema, and another platform to showcase Statham's ruggish, inner hard bastard.
-
Just like she will suck the life out of the movie.

Basically all she's good at is sucking.
At least that's what Casper says...

Uh I defy anyone that hates on Payback! That movie was GREAT. Now for this
by Wcwlkr
I like Statham so I could see myself renting it, but I definitely don't know about going to see it. For Lopez alone makes me want to avoid it. Plus it didn't look to have anywhere near the fun or coolness that was Mel Gibson in Payback.
-
And I'm a BIG fan of the Parker novels, but this...doesn't really feel like one. Parker doesn't dangle from buildings and get into extraneous fisticuffs or gunplay...he just does what he needs to do to get the swag, and then walks away. Still, it looks like a fun movie, just not the Parker of the books.
-
If you couldn't see that the accent, the hat, the cowboy get-up were a gag a mile away, you're a fucking moron. Worse, you're not paying attention to the trailer, since J Lo basically calls him out as a phony right away. Now, I'm not saying Statham is some genius at dialects and could do better, but it's all justified here.
-
Something like 'Looper' or 'Inception', something with a shred of originality to it....is a welcome change of pace.
-

Disgrace to the awesome books and badass character that is Parker
by Marc
This looks like a stock Statham (who I love) movie. Parker should have been played by Josh Brolin. Perfect Parker

You sure this is not from 1998?
