HANNIBAL teaser poster and trailer online

Published at:  May 05, 2000 3:23:35 PM CDT

Hey folks, doesn't that poster just kick friggin ass? I love the SILENCE OF THE LAMBS posters pretty fiercely, but that's darn cool. Now ol MGM seems to have decided that getting the word out on this movie is kind of important, so they've already begun the hype machine... Coool... a eight, nine month hyping of a noted Serial Killer that has a massive fan base... well, that suits me just fine! Hehehehe... To see the FLASH version of the HANNIBAL trailer, CLICK HERE!

    Gotta love Dr. Lector

    by sway

I always thought it would be nice the have another film about Lector, about without any characters from the first two movies (Silence of the Lambs, Manhunter), just a totally unrelated (except for lector) movie...

    This ROCKS!

    by sweeper887

This film is going to kick some serious ass! I mean, if just a teaser with absolutely NO new footage can get an audience pumped (go to any theater that is showing Gladiator and watch the audience reaction), imagine what a completely new film can do! KICK ASS!

Tony Hopkins is a GOD! Julianne Moore will finally do justice to the character known as Clarice Starling.

I have been looking forward to this film since Silence of the Lambs came out in theaters on Valentine's Day back in 1991!

Peace, Love, and lots of Chianti!
    Sweeper887 out!

Hannibal: The Early Years, all about before he got caught, his descent into cannibalism, his double life as head doctor/head hunter. I can see it now.. 'Doctor, what's that stuck in your teeth?' 'Oh, I just had a dinner engagement wih a patient...'

If Hannibal's eyes will be maroon in the movie. They always were in the books, and it would be a cool detail, even though it wouldn't match Mr. Hopkin's blue eyes in "silence"

GIMME A BREAK-- you people really think it's a cool poster?

    by trigger95

It's just a friggin picture of Anthony Hopkins!! There's nothing remotely interesting about it!! I bet it took the MGM advertising department all of ten minutes to come up with it. On a different note, anyone who's read the script knows that "Hannibal" is more about Mason Verger and Pazzi, the italian cop who tries to catch him for reward money, than Hannibal and Starling. In fact, I suspect that's why Foster passed on the project-- because Starling is a supporting character, at best. I don't think this is a bad thing, but I do think it will catch some people by surprise. Here's to Ridley making a decent flick.

    Hannibal is about Hannibal.

    by agtcooper

It suddenly occurred to me while watching the trailer that Hannibal (the novel at least) is a cautionary tale...what happens when you 'get closer to the glass' and 'let him into your head.'

Thank You Ridley Scott for putting the shit scaryness back into Lecter. I really hope we dont have see him shopping for soap etc.etc.etc.

Jodie will be sadly missed. But I dont think this is going to come anywhere near to the quality of Silence, that movie is sublime.

And personally I dont like the tagline. It's a bit cheezy.

    by split_finger21

i really, really love that poster. everything about it was put together real well. to the idiot who said this is a lame poster, he obviously doesn't know shit about anything. it's not just a pic of hopkins. the way they put half of his face on only one side is a neat little way of adding creepiness to it. skin tone kicks butt too.

I saw Gladiator today, and DIDN'T see that trailer! Here's the kicker: the theater showed the Gladiator trailer, BEFORE GLADIATOR! After it ended, someone yelled out "Hey, we should all see that!" That was funny. I'm not a huge Lambs fan, nor do I care for Julianne Moore, bt I would've liked to see that teaser. I love teasers, unless they're women:)

    by eliot

I think it's awesome that Ridley gets a teaser trailer on his summer release for a Febuary one he hasn't even shot yet! But what's up with all the bass? It felt like a teaser for an action flick.

    by jsp2000

I mean, have they even shot a frame of this movie yet? Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped for it, but geez, have we learned nothing? I'm sure that millions of people are going to flock to this movie anyway. I see no real point in advertising it yet. They are just going to wear people out on the movie, before anyone sees the movie. Yeah.

    I just read 'Hannibal'...

    by mr_sinister

...and the movie will only be good if the script stays true to the novel. I know, I know, this is what most people have been complainig about. But if Clarice does not taste Krendler's brains with Lecter and then become his lover, the theme of transformation which is present in all 3 novels concerning Lecter will be lost. Ok, some people will be freaked out by that ending, but it will leave the audience both haunted and disturbed when they see that Starling has willfully (perhaps) joined Lecter. >>>
Also, I read that script review of 'Hannibal' that was on here a while ago and what is this garbage about Crawford having a Private Detective Agency? His death in 'Hannibal' (while brief) is incredibly poignant for Starling. And the end with Clarice sunbaking? What in the world?! It sounds awfully hackneyed. >>>
Like somebody else suggested, if Mason Verger's sister is left out of the movie that will be a big mistake. Her absence will destroy the whole familial obsession the novel has going. There are parallels between Mason/Margot and Hannibal/Mischa (Clarice through Hannibal's wish to reincarnate his sister), giving it a quite disturbingly incestuous underscore. >>>
Now, while it is true that Hannibal is a monster, you should know that in the novel he is humanised and his cannibalism explained. There are other monsters far worse, including Mason (come on, a child molesterer and rapist), Paul Krendler, Margot Verger (to an extent), the Italian kidnappers, and even the whole patriarchal FBI thing. At least Lecter only killed complete tossers who deserved to die (excluding those who block his escape). >>>
So, Clarice IS an important element to this story and NOT just a supporting character as someone suggested. The Italian part of the novel/film is really only one act. >>>
Aside from all that, the poster is cool!

  • Anybody remember those little naked women on the moth? That was way cool. Kinda makes you want to take a closer look at this poster, which by the way, looks extremely cool. I liked the book too

    by henrik

Thomas Harris was basically thumbing his nose at everybody who was demanding a sequel. He gave them one on his own terms. The book seems very cinematic until the ending. Harris goes "Film this!" Maybe they will, as a dream sequence. Or maybe it stops a little before that and ends differently. I didn't read the report on the script, I'm hoping for some surprise. (But whatever they do, it won't be as jaw droppingly audacious as the book.)

Re: I still think this movie is going to suck

    by theafxtwin

    Hmmm....lets see...

    Speed: Action
    Lambs: Thriller

    Speed: Worthless oneshot movie
Lambs: Part of a series of books

    Speed: Speed 2, NO DIRECTOR!
Lambs: Come on, is anyone else more qualified to work on this?

While I doubt that it'll match the sales of lambs, Ridley Scott will without a doubt make a great movie out of what he's given. Hmm, Speed 2....hmm....I hardly think Scott could make a flick that stupid or void of thought.

    "Break the silence?!?!"Ugh!!!!

    by user id indeed!

I can think of better taglines than that!!I remember a poster the summer o' '97 for Godzilla. It was complete black, except for some words in white that said "Guess Who's Coming To Town",and the Godzilla logo surrounded by green(In retrospect, that one poster said more and was more enticing than the whole Godzilla-advertisement overkill blabbedy-blah).It was exciting, and it took advantage of a rare gift to movies like that and this.Lemmee explain...Hannibal Lector is by now a well-known and respected character in American pop culture,as was Godzilla. In cases like that, when you make a movie surrounding a well-known character like that,a teaser should be made to excite the senses and get hype boiling.BUT,not just a teaser. In cases like this,Godzilla,or a movie surrounding, say,Superman,Freddy Krueger,or King Kong, you can have a simple little tagline that makes you think of that character(Guess who's coming to town). This poster wastes that oppurtunity by using a tagline that makes us think of the MOVIE,"Silence of the Lambs",not Hannibal.Really,"Silence" has more to do with the fact that it's a sequel, not that it surrounds a great character. It says,"Hey,this is a sequel to SOTL",npt "Hey,you get to see Hannibal again!!!"I know I sound like a moron, but it's true. Some examples of better taglines are "The doctor is in","He's in your head",or...I dunno,"Guess who's coming to town"!!!The poster, also, makes a mistake by making Hopkins' skin a weird yellowish color. Also, the damned trailer had the idea, but a simple "Stay away from the glass"would've sufficed. They OVERexploited the idea.AAARGH,I should have an advertising agency or something!!!This has been a Moment with an Angry Man!

Anyway, how can you not know that particular bit of info about this book yet?! That's what all the controversy has been about!!!! Everyone had the end of the book ruined for them even before it became available in book stores because it came up in articles, so there.

    Isn't that the Bicentennial Man?

    by shilex0

I went to see Gladiator the other night and was I surprised to see the poster for Hannibal already hanging on the movie theater walls! Kinda early, isn't it? I was tempted to take it, but there were just too many people around. I got to admit, it does catch your eye and is very cool, but it also kinda resembles an "evil" Bicentennial Man poster. And what's with the cracks on his forehead? I didn't know that Hannibal Lector was made out of stone. (I guess they're supposed to be scars, but with the skin tone it looks more like he's stone) Either way, it'd be a sweet poster to add to my collection. :)

Let's improve on these poster slogans you guys have.....in a couple of months, release a new teaser poster and trailer (when there's footage complete) and the poster could be like this:

Photographed in the same style, hannibal's mask on the floor.

    "guess who's coming to dinner?"
