Park Chan-Wook's STOKER, his first English Language Feature is out!
Hey folks, Harry here - just now saw a link to this, been at FANTASTIC FEST all day/night/early day. It looks like Chan-Wook Park's first feature is of the Hitchcock variety - and with Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode - it looks absolutely fantastic it. Give a look see for yourself!

I'll allow myself to be a dreaming nerd, here: Park should take over Dark Knight
by beastie
He's the only director that I can think of that can build the same kind of tension and same kind of dread that is displayed in those films.

Everything's fine, Bob...

Who want to bet that the Nicole Kidman's character is the least evil of the 3?
by albert comin
There's also a "Shadow Of A Doubt" vibe to this, if every character were a motherfucker. My point is, trailer is not to be trusted in regard to who the characters are. But boy, i'm there.
-
Welcome back Ms Kidman, it's been a while.
-
It has my vote.

That trailer is way to long. So many things in trailer could potentially ruin surprisese in movie

And not completely out the question when you consider Ang Lee and Hulk. Someone get on the phone to DC quick! :D

In OLDBOY style the Uncle ends up being Kidman's Daddy and Cousin at the same time.

FUCK YOUR STUPID SITE. I CAN'T EVEN MAKE IT STOP. I used to love coming here every day. I think I'm about done now.
-
I'm liking the look of this.
-
Does anyone else see a difference in the quality of the shot at times during the trailer? Sometimes it looks rich and deep and other it looks washed out and somewhat blurry. Wondering if that's a stylistic choice of something else.
-
:D ...... i'll show myself out.
-
Dark knight definitely needs to go South korean...they know how to combine realistic yet visceral action with beautiful visuals.

Wentworth Miller should stick to acting because this looks truly awful.

cant wait for this

I think the differences of the visual stylistics indicate how far into the story a certain shot is from. I suspect this will be like his previous movie "Sympathy for Lady Vengenace", where the movie starts almost technicolor but becomes more and more washed-out as it goes until it pratically becomes black and white by the end. My guess is the more washed out the images from the trailer are the futher in the story it cames from.

but with vampires lol

I think Chan-Wook Park is one of the very best directors alive.

I have very little reasons to think otherwise.

Such a shame.....

Kim Ji-woon would be a great choice too for a new Batman movie
by albert comin
He makes great intelligent entertaiment (A Tale of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life, The Good, the Bad, the Weird), so i would love to see some of his magic aplied the the dark knight. He might be even a better choice then Chan-Wook Park, in some ways.
-
Another good choice. But tbh I'd rather them both be cranking out their own movies.

Was the patrolman with the aviator sunglasses a nod to the cop in Psycho? This does look good.

Should the tagline be "The family that slays together, stays together"...?

I haven't seen sympathy in close to a decade, so I only have the vaguest recollection of what you're speaking of. I'll definitely be seeing this as I've loved everything else he's put out. I'd like to see him do an American film with the kind of ambition and vision that he had with Thirst.
-
Oh man, THIRST was great!! Definetly a new twist on the vampire genre. And i'm quite a fan of Song Kang-ho. THIRST is also the movie that makes me believe that Nicole Kidman's character will be the least of the evil 3. In THIRST, what we though was the evil mother-in-law turned out to be a wise fgood women who knew exactly what kind of twisted woman her daughter-in-law was. Chan-Wook Park never goes for the obvious, does he?
-
I think you're right, I'm getting a definite Bad Seed feeling from the trailer
-
would do with a Robert E. Howard or H.P. Lovecraft movie.

YES! I LOVE CHAN-WOOK PARK! If you think 'Old Boy' is his only good flick...you're dumb
by DukieMichaelNamondRandy
The Revenge Trilogy, Thirst, his short films and..well, to a lesser extent "I'm a Cyborg, but That's Okay", only because his perversity can't hit 10 in a comedy as well as his hybrid brand of feel-bad-feel-good thriller. hope this hits that 10 despite my dislike for Kidman!

'I'm a Cyborg, but That's Okay' was bad. I couldn't get through it. It was 'Cuckoo's Nest' without the drama or insight.

And I'm sure it was intended to be humourous, there's humour in all of Park's films.

In a short span, Korea produced some of the best and most interesting filmmakers in the world
by albert comin
How did this happened? What's Korea doing right that Holywood can't? What are they drinking and where i can have some of that?
-
Wait, this isn't a Stroker Ace remake? My bad.

Was always a bit ambivalent about this flick, even the title...
by Darkness
It might turn out to be one of those typical Psychological thrillers, with an ending that never lived up to the promise. I thought it was a 'Bram Stoker' biopic in the beginning: that would have been something. Mia Wasikowska looks her gloomy, expressionless self again, and Nicole Kidman trying to convey emotion through her botox. When Korean filmmakers take on material outside of their comfort zone, they always come undone; hopefully not for the director of "Oldboy"...We don't want another Chen Kaige, with "Killing Me Softly"
