Maybe perhaps the Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day does belong with her… Little Miss Living with her rosy cheeks and beating heart.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Day 1 of Fantastic Fest is underway already. In advance of Frankenweenie’s world premiere opening night movie special thingy, I’m off to interview some of the folks involved including one of my favorite living character actors and one of my first crushes.
So, I’m on my way out the door, but since it’s all Tim Burtony stop motion in the brainpan, I figured why not go with a Corpse Bride BTS pic.
Thanks to Pat Barnett for this pic. Click to enlargen.

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s pic is alive (hint: not Johnny, not Franky).

that I was let down by this movie at first. On repeated viewings however, I have really come to appreciate and enjoy it. It's always amazing to see any glimpse of stop motion behind the scenes.
-
But yeah, it was all stop motion with some of the most advanced puppets ever (they used clock workings to animate the facial features so they wouldn't have to replace the heads or mouths).

Thank god we get one of these films every couple of years.

Stop-motion is among the most detailed and innovative techniques to come out of animation. We need it to keep going for as long as possible. Henry Selick seems to be in the lead for consistently good films with Burton tailing behind him. And of course, Nick Park & Aardman's plasticine productions have been the only ones to truly compete with (and often surpass) the latter two's efforts.
-
No, there'd probably be exclamation points for that.

"Paranorman" is actually an amazing movie. Me and a couple friends saw it last weekend. I don't know how they can market it as a kids' movie, though. It is INSANELY dark. When you find out the "twist" of the movie, you will be shocked.

Isn't it a little strange that the Corpse Bride still had a decent rack?

Quint, you should do an all-horror October for BTSPOTD like you used to with AMAD

Preferably one with Kelly Lebrock in not-alotta-cloths mode.

huge disappoinment. Great animation, score etc, but got lost in the haze of the superior "Nightmare Before Christmas". Still, i hope "Frankenweenie" makes up for it.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who was disappointed by this movie.
by cookepuss
I really tried to like it. I did. It just bored me to tears. Corpse Bride was one of only two movies to ever literally put me to sleep; the other being Underworld 2, which I tried to see two times and failed to stay awake each time. Corpse Bride was certainly no TNBC and I think that's what most people expected. Frankenweenie looks decidedly different so I don't think that many comparisons will be drawn, other than the usual Burton related ones.
-
This should have been the film Burton won an Oscar for. It would be nice to see him snag the Oscar for 'Frankenweenie'. Basically a film that got him his start way back when.

Burton's obsession with pasty faced protagonists (have fun counting them all) means he needs an examination by a good therapist.
by Ingeld
He has issues.

Has anyone ever submitted a BTSPOTD for an animated movie that wasn't stop-motion?
by Nasty In The Pasty
I'm honestly interested. There's this awesome pic from An Americal Tail I'd love to submit if I could find a way to get it off of the laserdisc stillframe archive I found it...

And this films get props for being the ONLY Burton movie since Edward Scissorhands...
by Nasty In The Pasty
...that wasn't an adaptation of an existing property.

FUCKING A!

In a common case of mistaken identity, Henry Selick didn't actually do THE CORPSE BRIDE, it was Will Vinton (the dude who did "The California Raisins" commercials and "The PJs"). Not really sure why Selick didn't do that one. Vinton's work is generally a lot slicker and less Claymation-y than Selick's.

Tim Burton shared directing credit with animator Mike Johnson.
