Fun Happenings with Warner Archive and the Paley Center this weekend in LA!
"Monty Cristo" here.
If you aren't familiar with Warner Archive yet, they're the crown princes and princesses of the Manufacture-On-Demand DVD world, making it possible and affordable to collect "deep cuts" from the studio library that have been impossible to find for some time. These include not just loads of shorts, serials, and feature films, but TONS of TV, especially from the Hanna-Barbera library.
Well, in conjunction with the Paley Center, they are screening a pile of great content this weekend, with talent in attendance for discussions afterward.
Hit this link for info on the full program, which includes Patrick Duffy and Man from Atlantis, Superboy, Michael Gray (Billy Batson) and Shazam!, Herculoids, Ron Ely and Tarzan, and more.
The full passes for the event are only $25 for non-Paley members, and this is one of those things that makes me jealous of L.A., you bastards.

The 2001 A Space Odyssey 20 min trims are at the Warner vaults
by Ricardo
Can I purchase them? No, right? So it kind of defeats the whole fucking purpose doesn't it

Boo fucking hoo. Ever thought to consider, you live in an adult world, where there are rights issues, with Kubrick's estate and all? Just because a company has something in their possession, doesn't mean they can do what the want with it if there are varying contractual obligations to uphold. I love the goddamn movie too but not having access to something even Kubrick deemed unnecessary is going to rock my precious boat. I suppose you're up in arms about the 'real' ending of The Shining left on the cutting room floor, too... I swear, there are so many whining jackasses on this site it's becoming too loud from all the braying. Grow. Up. Do something important with your life, go protest something worthwhile like for animal rights or against Corporate Malfeasance instead of bumming about 20 goddamn minutes that, once you watch them, you'll just go "Cool, completed that, got THAT ticked off my checklist, now down to the corner Winchells to buy me a donut, yeah!"

Never realized how similar Man From Atlantis is to Namor the Submariner
by Ash Talon
I know I watched Man From Atlantis when I was young, but I don't recall much from it. Other than his dolphin swim technique. Interesting that its concept is essentially Marvel's Namor the Submariner.

That played at BAM on my 30th birthday (just a coincidence) with Murray introducing. According to him, the rights are ALL screwed up, and he's doubtful it will ever get a video release.

The difference is the concept of Namor is that he is
by Bedknobs and Boomsticks
openly hostile toward humans for encroaching on and damaging the seas. Bit of an anti-hero.

there is avery good reason why the WB has a huge problem
by emeraldboy
with making superhero movies outside of Batman. Supergirl is the ghost that Haunts to the studio to this day. it Took WB four years to get over that debacle. but the filmmaking fall out from that movie still remains.
