An amazing animation for an 80's ROBOTECHesque STAR WARS animation! EXCELLENT!!!
Harry here again, Here it is with finished score and sound fx... I just fricking love this thing. That's awesome STAR WARS:
Hey folks, Harry here... I've been writing about cool stuff popping up online for over 16 years now and I never ever get tired of seeing the sheer amazing talent of the folks that make up this Internet we all live on and enjoy. But Otaking77077 has animated something that I would love to see as a feature length animated film. I'd definitely enjoy a STAR WARS manga-esque series animated at this quality. Just take a gander at this thing:
See, ain't it cool?

Why isn't Lucas looking for this type of talent?

I would throw down a good amount of cash if they made some straight to video stuff of this quality and tone!
-
I still love the look and feel of the original design work. I have never warmed to the smoother Flash-Gordon-like prequel designs. I wish the new trilogy stuck closer to the original films instead working up to them. In my mind, they should have been instantly recognizable as SW films even if it they were pre galactic empire days... Those Y wings and X wings could have been the old Republic ships and slightly face lifted to look newer like what the design team did with the Tantive 4 did in ROTS.
-
The beat Star Wars animation of all-time!!! That is beyond worthy of a movie or ongoing TV series:))) Truly amazing work!!!!
-
Otaking77077 did a really cool 3rd Doctor anime fan film a while back, but had to take it down after reading the fine print of an employment contract he'd signed with the BBC. As is the way of things of course, someone else went ahead and put it back up: http://youtu.be/kt3qZYUPi2Y

Flawless anime style, but the art isn't quite up to Anime/Robotech standards. About 85% there. I'd love to see this Star Wars series.

But this Japanese anime re-envisioning of Star Wars simply is not complete without the addition of bad English dubbing, scantily clad moe girls, and tentacles. Can't have an anime without those three things. In all seriousness though, that was brilliant. I would put down cold hard cash to see the OT redone in this style. Or rather, to see some EU books rendered in this style. Imagine seeing Zahn's Thrawn trilogy like that? Pure awesomeness.
-
...and that mistake being any Star Wars film released after Return of the Jedi. Cock flipping fucking bastard.

I have no desire to see the faces of Tie Fighter pilots. Especially if they look like Miles Mayhem from M.A.S.K. I want them to remain mysterious.

I'd love to see more of that!

...come on guys this will never pass. We need Ewoks! We need silly Gungans. We need stupid cartoonish aliens in podraces to sell toys with. Tie fighters? Star Destroyers? We can't sell that to a 6 year old!
-
A live action TV show showing the formation of the rebellion that takes place between episodes III and IV, with movie quality special effects. Oh wait, that's what Lucas is doing, so shut the fuck up.
-
Is one dumb mother fucker. Recreating dog fights from Star Wars isn't a story. But as long as it has pretty fucking pictures and tugs on your nostalgia strings, I guess it's a-okay! This reminds me of that awful Mortal Kombat web series. The initial test trailer had you all sucking the guys dick because all it showed was the gory action. But when it came to the actual web series and had to rely on characters, plot, dialogue, framing, etc. it was a piece of garbage. The dog fights in Star Wars were great because of their context. This has no context. It looks neat. Great! So did Transformers for 2 minutes...fucking hypocrites.

by Ricardo
... to mid 80s japanese anime orchestra soundtrack (with 20 horn pieces and one string buried on the mix), and actually shoot it 16mm (print out the animation) and you got youself a MASTERPIECE. Too good for GL, though. DAMN. How long until that loser dies and Nolan reboots the prequels?

This rapes all the clone wars and every second of the prequels combined.

This level of animation + the Clone Wars series writing
by Detective_Fingerling
would be amazing. Kids these days probably wouldn't enjoy that kind of art style though.
-
But I wasn't impressed. Anime just doesn't do it for me. The style is so...played out. I realize I'm in the minority on this. It's a shame these days that we have to choose between shitty CG pretending to be hand drawn animation (cell shading, I'm looking at you) or anime where it's jerky like beef, the tech looks awesome and the people all look like underage Asian girls. That said, this was better than the prequels.

...and then this super cool shit unspools before my eyes! Jesus--and Lucas--please give this guy some $ to make this a direct-to-video something or other. Cool making this as magna, SUPER cool if the story is told from the pov of The Empire (portraying The Empire as the "good guys.")

interesting how it was from the Imperial perspective not the Rebs... And yes, I want Thrawn on that bridge too!

Damn, that was good enough to already make me imagine the storyline in my head.
by MCVamp
STAR WARS: ACES OF THE EMPIRE In the waning days of the Galactic Rebellion, Darth Vader trains a crack team of Imperial Pilots to crush the Rebel's space power. The destruction of the first Death Star kicks things into high gear as the order is given: Seek out the Rebellion and their now-infamous Rogue Squadron, and break the Rebels' spirit once and for all. The series would take the heroic view of the Empire at first, and slowly dip into chaos as the Emperor's evil is revealed, testing the loyalty of the Empire's Aces.
-
But that is faint praise. I've shit turds that are better than all six hours of the prequels.
-
This animation ROCKS and no one gives two shits about Clone Wars.
-
Including the zooming-into-the-helmets thing. Any mystery the TIE Fighter pilots had has already been shattered by the prequels-- they're all Jango Fett clones. I like that this animation decided to throw all that out. I think George just retroactively made the Imperial Troops clones in order to assuage his guilt over the body count Luke, Han, and Leia racked up. I look forward to the finished product.
-
Sept. 17, 2012, 11:19 p.m. CST
By the Empire's end days, they weren't all clones anymore...
by MCVamp
Or at least that's the impression I get. If Lucas had wanted to drive the point home, I imagine he would have had Temura Morrison overdub all of the stormtroopers, and believe me, HE WOULD HAVE DONE IT.
-
I think those few minutes of anime Star Wars have possibly given me reason to hope that Star Wars might one day be worthwhile again. Not only that, but the overall look and feel of that anime was crisp but also had a nice retro vibe. Fuckin' A man. This is the best thing I've seen all year. Somebody give this guy a budget and contract to make a Star Wars anime movie or series. Hell, don't stop there. Do this same anime treatment to some other classic stories. I'd also love to see this kind of thing done with Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Aliens. Or maybe a Last Starfighter anime done in this style. I could even see this kind of anime treatment working for something like Mad Max. Amazing stuff. Somebody sign this dude up to make awesome anime Star Wars, or Kickstart this thing!

It's easy to seem cool when you're just showing money shots with no story or chartacters
by kevred
It's neat looking, but it's just stuff blowing up. There was a lot of neat-looking stuff in the prequels, too. Take the busiest action & space shots from those films, and it'd blow away anyone who hadn't seen the films, too. And look, the bad guys are the protagonists, and they're both men and women, and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
-
This might be the best thing I've ever seen on this here site!
-
He's taken a defined anime style and added his own elements to it to create something new. There's a nostalgic Bakshi feel to it, although the actors seemed a little stiff. Lots of shit blowing up. This guy knows his action sequences - leaves me wanting more. Much more.
-
That was easily the coolest thing I've seen today.

the cockpits from the TIE Fighters games. I like the details of the Star Destroyer hangers. Cool stuff.
-
If there isn't a good story behind it. Yes, the visuals look GREAT, the animation is nearly FLAWLESS, but the level at which many of you are willing to cream yourselves over is almost disgusting. Yeah, the visuals are great... but that's ALL you fucking have- visuals. And suddenly I'm reminded of so many of the prequel debates except now YOU are on the other side. Because IF those characters decided to open their mouths and there was a lot of talky, expositional scenes with really bad voice acting and whatnot... all of you hypocrites wouldn't have a damn thing to say. Story matters. Don't act like this is superior to 3 movies when there isn't one line of dialogue uttered.

"the TIE Fighter pilots had has already been shattered by the prequels-- they're all Jango Fett clones" - BULLSHIT
by D.Vader
That's how the army was STARTED, and that's what we were shown. But most of us know that the troopers in the OT are NOT all clones. Han Solo went to the Imperial Academy, remember? Biggs too. Or did you guys conveniently forget all that? Yeah, there were a lot of Clones in the early days and some remained by the end, but in the OT, they took anyone who wasn't a non-human.
-
Sept. 18, 2012, 1:03 a.m. CST

there are no mediums that can convey fantasy better than COMIC BOOKS and old fashioned 2D ANIMATION now that comics have come into their own, hopefully someone will see a film like this and realize the untapped potential of 2D animation. put a movie like this in theaters. stoners will come out in DROVES.

PS- Heavy Metal Magazine (AKA Metal Hurlant) is now a TV series. Why hasn't AICN reported this??
by sasquatch_with_a_swatch_watch
This short film has a strong Heavy Metal vibe to me.
-
But to say this blows away everything else- Clone Wars, the Prequels, etc- is just so laughably immature and stupid. Because it precisely ignores everything else- story, dialogue, character, etc. But yeah, its pretty damn badass to watch.
-
I have no idea why there aren't any Star Wars based cartoons / video games being released by Lucasfilm / Lucas Arts that are set in the OT universe. The OT characters and vehicles / ships are what people identify with.
-
Still worth a watch, much cooler than the Robotech edited version.
-
Harry you child of the 80's, I can understand why this reminded you of Robotech which came out in 1985. While some readers posted that it had a Gundam flavor, which was 1979 at the earliest if you happened to be living in Japan. Reminded me of G-Force ! I don't think anyone under the age of 40 would know what the fuck that is. Post Star Wars anime released on American TV in 1978 by way of Sandy Frank Productions. It had a team called G-Force with the not too clever title "Battle Of The Planets." It had the obvious rip off robot "7 Zark 7" was the R2D2-like robot but with arms. You Tube it, this was done 30 + years ago of having Japanese style animation and homage to Star Wars. I'm loving what they did here combining a good ol' fashion TIE fighter VS X-Wing battle thou like others have posted I'm a little confused why they did not use John Williams score? Still very cool, waaaay better than the first showing of Boba Fett in the animated sequence made by Nelvana for the Star Wars Holiday Special.
-

What The F**k Was That?
-
Kudos for reminding me about the Heavy Metal show, can't wait for that. Also agreed on comics and that we need more badass animation in America, though of course budgets and funding keep it from happening. Still, plenty of awesome anime titles out there.
-
He did some impressive (though perhaps not as coherent) Doctor Who work a few years back. It's a bit more rough, but still lots of great stuff. His Cybermen were particularly cool looking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt3qZYUPi2Y
-
Wow - that was a real pleasure to see some proper old skool X Wings and TIEs dogfighting again! Put that sequence together with model work, matte paintings and maybe just a hint of CG and you'd have one of the most entertaining space battles ever shot. ps. I dont like to think of those fucking crocodile dundee clones as having ANY part in the Original Trilogy. They have some wierd accelerated birth to become 30 year old men so lets just imagine that they have a very short lifespan - all dead before the events of A NEW HOPE!
-
TIE dog-fight in Macross-style? Fine. Is it too much to hope for Order 66 done like Evangelion?
-
This kind of thing really does exist luckily. But hell yes, this short is badass.
-
Being sick to death of all things "Star Wars" lately, this has re-informed me of how great it could be. Different mediums add fresh perspective. See George: This is how it's done. Where were these guys during the prequel pre-viz? These two minute segments were far more entertaining than anything the lumberjack-shirted-one ever concocted post-1983.

*The opening sequence in Revenge of the Sith was better than any space battle you've ever seen ... * Fuck off. Thrill to the drama of the 'Buzz Droids'. Gasp as everybodies favourite character 'Commander Cody' picks up one on his tail. Laugh as Obi Wan and Anakin 'banter' at each other - producing so many quotable lines. And swoon as faceless droids and faceless clones zap away at each other in the CG-spastic background.

This really rocked my socks! More please. With some Lucas cash splashed around for a bigger budget.

It's a bit sad when fans produce better Star Wars than anything Lucasfilm has done in over 20 years.
-
What IS the deal with Tobey Maguire's Robotech Movie plans? Anybody hear anything? After Robotech introduced me to Macross in its true form, I look at Robotech like an ugly ex-girlfriend that introduced me to my current girlfriend, her ex-best friend. Star Wars is like my ex-girl friend's mom that looks hot in her high school yearbook but now sports way too many face-lifts.
-
This is what a prequel stuff should look like.
-
I'm actually a huge fan of Macross. But Macross had an awesome story with texture and awesome battle scenes. Lucas Prequels had some great action but it's the stories and characters that sucked the life out of it. I'm not putting down this work. It's really well done, but this isn't what Lucas needs to focus on. He needs to focus on tight storytelling that has a soul to it.
-
OK, jaded as I am, this still made me sit up and take notice. Well done!

THIS is anmation kids! Frame by frame! Motion-tweening or shape-tweening your shitty drawings on the timeline in Flash is NOT animation.
by Autodidact
Now watch some fucking moron misinterpret me. I'm not saying you can't use Flash to do "real" animation. I'm saying that so many people these days consider themselves animators for dropping a symbol onto the stage and then motion-tweening it or shape tweening it. Most of these idiots couldn't animate a bouncing ball on a flip-pad. With its layers and frame-by-frame timeline, Flash is the best tool for doing traditional cel animation besides actually painting on celluloid. When you take extra cost, space required, messiness, supply issues, and technical concerns of the traditional method into account, Flash is probably superior.
-
Gotta watch the blu-ray again soon.

peter_bishop, sorry my friend but I didnt love the ROTS opening. When I watched it I didnt feel love. I didnt feel hate... in fact I didnt feel very much at all - and therein lies the problem! You get that awesome fanfare, the iconic crawl, and then... it just didnt do it for this massive Star Wars fan. Strangely enough I did enjoy THE PHANTOM MENACE. Im not going to lie and rewrite history, I did honestly enjoy that movie at the cinema. Neeson and Darth Maul kept my interest up, and it was really Qui Gonn's character that took me along for the ride. AOTC and SITH were different - both had a few moments (mostly involving Ian McDiarmid) but they just didnt take me with them. Portman and Hayden Christensen were such a pair of planks, and pretty much everything felt a little off - like the whole movie was some sort of hybrid photshop greenscreen animated feature. I mean that scene in Dexters Diner was like some creature had wandered off the set of MONSTERS INC. The tactile, solid, real, used universe of the OT was missing. And yes that *animated feel* includes the space battle at the opening of SITH.
-
I was not saying the fucking tools mattered. Plus, of course he's using 3D. All the ships are done in 3D and the characters are hand-drawn, most likely in Flash. I have done lots of animation this way (3D cel-shaded environments/objects with hand-drawn vector characters/softs).
-
Well put. I would even go as far as saying, for me personally, that is how I felt during the Phantom Menace, too. I did not feel a lived in and breathing Star Wars Universe. Having just watched a New Hope on the excellent BluRay set, you felt a much larger scope than any of the prequels. Autodidact: This animation was awesome. Futurama also does a lot of Flash/computer assist for vehicles and almost always when Bender is floating around in space. This animation is proof that you can do those things and make it epic. I am not an animator, but I can see the use for computer assist for vehicles as they need to keep a very uniform shape or in the instance of an armada, to keep in formation and all look identical. it is practical and can look really smooth when done right.
-
They should use the first three sequel books. They were shitty literature-wise, but the story stayed true to the characters. Moreso than any of the prequels did. I would love to see the scene when they are talking about the Chimera getting destroyed in Return of the Jedi and how that caused the fleet to crack watching the flagship get taken out. It would be a classic anime flashback scene with a great voiceover.
-
At the same time, REDLINE was done entirely without computer assists.. totally hand-drawn. And it is the most amazing animation I've seen in a long time.
-
Sept. 18, 2012, 8:45 a.m. CST
I am just railing against people who think doing a few motion tweens accounts to animation. I'm not saying you can't use motion tweens or CG

Was fun to watch, but it took too damn long to come out. I felt like I was watching Wind Ninja Chronicles (Ninja Scroll here) for the first time again in terms of style. Story was a little meandering, but not as crazy as a lot of other anime features out there.

Re: I Can't Believe I'm The First To Point This Out, But ...
by ArmageddonProductions
... this seems like a pretty goddamn good compromise for that proposed live-action series Lucas is sitting on. Give this guy a tenth of what they're claiming a live-action episode would cost, surround him with a decent animation team and have at it. True, they'd be likely not to hit whatever mainstream demographic they're planning on aiming for (non-STAR WARS fans? People who would rather not watch cartoons?), but I'm pretty sure a cel-animated show like this would go over pretty well ... Fox Sunday nights?

by Dan
Let's go through the bullet points: 1. Lucas Sucks 2. Lucas is a hack 3. Prequels suck 4. Childhood raped vigorously 5. Lucas needs to "step away.." 6. Star Wars is dead.... 7. I hate Star Wars/dead to me/but I'm a liar who will return if only_____ happens... 8. Lucas needs to die already Did I miss anything? Get a life.... I want the HEIR TO THE EMPIRE adapted...not sure if it would suit this style as this looks too much like the Fett story in Holiday Special....

Only because it's Star Wars though... give me a good story and let's see what happens!

The problem is the directing is trying way too hard to seem like its cool which by doing so makes it hard to follow at times or even senseless. RELAX GUYS! Just tell the story and present it in a cool way...instead they are trying to "look" for a story while jerking off doing it. Amateur directing.

The best of Star Wars isn't about the hardware. Something Lucas forgot in the belabored and buzzkilling Phantom Menace. The best of Star Wars was its original characters - Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca; they're the reason I watch the original trilogy over and over again despite the effects looking somewhat dated. I'd be all for a well-done animated SW movie if those characters were included. The original actors could do the voices. Why Lucas has never done this speaks volume for his remoteness and creeping senility...
-
shhhhaaaaaaataaaaaaaaaaaaaap

Someone please let this man make this into a series or a movie.

And that it's just in a funk right now, kind of the way Star Trek has had it's ups and downs. Although it'll be tough to ever top Empire, it could be done.

There's no question that otaking77077 (and JPL4185, who added the sound) are extremely talented. That footage looks a hell of a lot better than anything I could do, and I have nothing but admiration for otaking's vision, ability to see things we've all come to take for granted in new ways, and motivation in realizing that vision so that I could share it. Really nicely done! I was truly entertained. At some point, though, I come to the same question about most fanart... why not apply one's energies to one's own creation, rather than fleshing out someone else's idea? The Star Wars universe is wonderful, and rich, and detailed, and evocative... but I feel more enriched by exploring another exciting new world than by yet another take on George Lucas' almost four-decade-old dreams. With so much talent brought to bear, why not take the next step and put it to work for your own story? Besides (and this next bit will likely piss off even more of the people I haven't already alienated) George Lucas and co. have done a fine job of wringing every last bit of exposition out of one idea for almost 40 years, rather than coming up with something new and equally exciting. Worse yet, each further iteration of the backstory and mythos seems to shrink the grandeur of the story rather than expand it. The vague references to the glories of the Republic and the Clone Wars that Obi Wan passed on to Luke along with his father's lightsaber were so much more evocative than the prequels were, or could ever be...

Oh, this isn't an official Lucasfilm production you say? Of course not! Lucasfilm coffers are MUCH better served by releasing a Star Wars based sitcom than something NOT COOL like this. (Han Solo to Chewbacca: "Chewie, I'm back-a!" Get it? A million yuks, that Corellian! Who knew?) After watching this low quality, slap dash fanime, I'm looking forward to SW: Detours more than EVER!!

^^ agreed I feel the same way. I dig TCW but seeing this made me realize how much I miss traditional animation, particularly anime style. Coincidentally I'm currently watching secret world of ariety.........fucking amazing. Seriously though GL, LFL - GET ON TOP OF THIS POTENTIAL MONEY TRAIN A S A P !!!!!!!!! Look at the overwhelming positive response to this sample vid from all us SW geeks and even non-SW fans. Fuck that tv series that may never happen - take those finished scripts and animate them like this........or better yet take some of the awesome OT era EU stories and animate it like this. Thrawn trilogy awaits!
-
MAKE THIS PLEASE
-
And I agree with those who say there's more heart, soul, and excitement in these two minutes than the entire six hours of prequeldom where instead of enduring what must surely be at last a half an hour of screen time watching ships land and take off, this actually showed something I'd never seen before in Star Wars: namely a TIE pilot getting into his/her craft and taking off, backing up an AT-AT (Beep! Beep! Beep!), and actually feeling some empathy with the heretofore unsympathetic (not to mention fascist) Imperial pilots-wow, they're actually individual human beings rather than faceless clones! I'd pay to see more SW like this.

Lucas needs to get this guy. The animation is awesome, fantastic and totally and completely OT. The way it should be. The way the fans demand it. I would whore out my wife, my daughter and even my ten-year-old son if it would gurantee it would be made even without Lucasfilm's permission. Especially if that fat disgusting, pedophile dictator is strapped to a chair, limbless with eyes clamped open and tears rolling down his cheeks looking at true art again. Nevertheless, I think that Lucas should promptly hire this guy, pay him what he's worth, and then kill himself. Because we all know that Lucas loves to dabble and interfere. And no one with any sense likes him anyway or thinks he deserves to be treated like a human being. Release this thing, Lucas, disembowel yourself on the net singing the Nub Nub song, and allow us fans the honor of pissing and shitting all over your dead, diseased carcass forcing your adopted spawn parasites to fuck your human waste covered body. It would only be more worthwhile if they were underage.
-
Far superior to Clone Wars. Let this guy make an original trilogy series!
-
Sept. 18, 2012, 5:50 p.m. CST

the TIE FIghter PC game, which is incidentally the best PC game EVAH. There you could see how TIE's were launched, it featured dogfighting Bombers and Interdictor class Destroyers. This little clip could possibly be the redemption Lucas is desperately needing. I have never undestood the really childish Lucas bashing. I agree that the new Trilogy isn't of the same magical, lightning -in-a-bottle uniqueness as the OT but come on...compared to other sci-fi of the last years it isn't as bad as poeple make it out to be. But if LFL has the gumption and testicular oomph to make this reality, it'll gather the strayed Star Wars flock in one fell swoop. It will be a day long remembered! I so hope that Mr Lucas or one of his minions will stumble upon this item and thread and see that this is gold waiting to be made. Chances are of course that all the whiny haters have made it next to impossible that anyone from LFL will visit this website ever again. irony. well, i hope there are still people who believe in the Force of Star Wars. Like i do.

as opposed to original work is people tend to work alone, instead of trying to collaborate. Sometimes it's because of not having the right friends, and other times it's ego or control issues. Being able to draw, or animate, or sculpt, is no guarantee that one also knows how to tell stories, or flesh-out and develop characters. Comic books, for instance, have long needed teams of people to perform individual aspects, such as writing, editing, pencilling, inking, lettering, coloring, etc. I suspect this animator would need to team up with a talented budding writer.

Thought I'd mention that.

The childish Lucas bashing is pathetic and sickening... no wonder the man retired... I do hope someone talks heed and uses this or anything innovative to make some new Star Wars stories... Would love to see a show based on the early rumblings of the Rebellion...Ackbar, Mon Mothma, Bail Organa- all hiding and manuevering around Palpatine's schemes. See the political and the military aspects.

-
...this guy would be a Billionaire.

Would totally kick in $50 for kickstarter if it guaranteed me a sweet bluray when it was done.
-
Would love to see this as a series...told from the Imperial perspective; you don't get to rule an entire Galaxy by having an army that can't shoot straight and not having popular support. With Good, mature writing, and this animation style...it could be something quite refreshing in the very very stale and predictable world of Star Wars. Will NEVER happen while George is alive though, he'd never allow it. Maybe we'll get lucky and old the old Grey Goiter will keel over mid stroke into Mellody.

http://www.freemake.com/downloads/ The 'Converter' will snag youtube videos and save them in any format, but the'Video Downloader' is easier (you'll need VLC or some other player that plays flash movies) Whichever you choose, I advise selecting 'custom install' and opting out of any extras or toolbars etc which might be malware. Or for an all-in-one downloader and player you could choose RealPlayer which is easy to use, just let it install the browser addons, and most youtube vids will present a little tab in the corner offering you the option of downloading'em. http://www.filehippo.com/download_realplayer/
-
THANKS! I'm at work, no time to look... I've noticed there used to be an option to download but they've since stopped it... Everytime I find a program, it stops working so thanks again.

is not because he gets lulz from it. its because Star Wars was only done as a means to raise money to fund his so-called 'art house' movies. The problem is, every studio hated every 'art house' treatment he showed them, and said, "why not make another of those outer space ninja movies?" and that little creative spark inside him went supernova. Its now a black hole into which all his joy is drawn in, never to escape. So he hates Star Wars, and hates all of us, for taking away the career that he really wanted to have. He wanted to be the next Hitchcock or Coppola, and all he ended up is the guy who made that outer space ninja movie.

Awesome vid and awesome music, just stirred up bad memories. Seriously, I just hit the big Dark Malak / Revaan twist at a little past the halfway point and it Kept. Fucking. Crashing. With that admittedly great musical score playing over and over as it crashed. Had to eventually use a freakin cheat code hackorz level warp to get out of there. Sigh. Like I said, frustration . But I beat the game eventually. Solid music, too. And also very good vid.

Very cool clip. But this always give fanboys an excuse to shit on everything else.
by Jeditemple
I loved the clip and the guy is very talented. It'd be really cool to see Lucas hook up with the animator and bring Star Wars up to another level. But as always, the haters just take another dump on Lucas and anything that's been done before...whether it's the prequels, Clone Wars, Detours, etc. It's getting old hearing the same whining and bitching.
-
the man is responsible for five fucking masterpieces, let's count them out 5!: THX-1138, Star Wars, Raiders, Empire Strikes Back, American Grafetti, one could say Acolypse Now, but really only in it's early stages... A flashy action piece. No story. No characters. Last time I checked, everyone gives Bay, JJ, and Whoever else shit for the same thing.<p> This is an excellent demo reel, nothing else. Actually proclaiming this is BETTER than even the prequels is like acknowledging that you're a moron. Is it well done? Yes. Exciting? Yes. Would it be fun to see a whole film like this? Yes. But to actually proclaim this is better is moronic.

by Nintendarth
In sixth place, comic book adaptation/remake Dredd bombed with just $6.3 million from 2,506 locations. That's less than one-third of Kick-Ass's $19.8 million, and only a little over half of the original Judge Dredd's $12.3 million (and that movie was considered a flop 17 years ago!). It's at least up on Shoot 'Em Up ($5.7 million) and about on par with April's Lockout ($6.2 million), though those comparisons suggest Dredd is on track for less than $20 million through its entire run. The audience was predominantly male (75 percent) and older (69 percent were 25 years of age or older) and they gave the movie a "B" CinemaScore. A 3D share is not currently available. Dredd's awful performance is the latest example of how the Comic-Con/online fanboy crowd just doesn't make up a large portion of the moviegoers in this country. The movie came out of its Comic-Con screening in July with tons of online buzz and very strong reviews, and it maintained a 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes through at least its first 25 reviews (though it ultimately wound up at a more-reasonable 77 percent). As a result, the fanboy audience was very aware of this movie ahead of release, and anticipation seemed to be pretty high among this group as well. Ultimately, though, it's just not a big-enough group to drive strong business. For a good dissection of the hazards of targeting fanboys, check out this piece from earlier this year in The Hollywood Reporter.

that article might be true elsewhere, but not with Star Wars....
