Cool News
In recent days, a Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day has appeared on the horizon of this beautiful resort community. A BtSPotD in the shape of a killer shark.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Just when you thought you knew everything about Jaws… shit like this comes along.
So, remember that really cool Jaws onset tour hosted by Peter Benchley I posted a few days ago? Well, the site set up by Benchley’s wife also featured a few behind the scenes pics, so I naturally started thumbing through them and found two that I hadn’t seen before and one of them showing something that I wasn’t aware happened in the film.
Peter Benchley cameos as the reporter on the newly reopened beaches during the 4th of July sequence. We see him talk to camera, we see him interview Mayor Vaughn (“As you know, Amity means friendship!”) but that’s about it. Now, it appears that Benchley didn’t just interview Vaughn, but also Hooper in a little bit that didn’t make it into the movie.
I like the little detail of Hooper taking his thick glasses off during the interview, by the way. Kind of shows a level of self-awareness the rest of the film only hints at. It’s Jaws, I get obsessive. Sue me.
So, the first shot features Benchley’s character interviewing Hooper and the second is of Benchley chilling around with Robert Shaw in his complete Quint get-up.

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s pic comes from another one of my favorites, a movie that totally has nards.

Loved the clip as well
-
I remember seeing bits of it as a lad, but I've never gone back to it. And Monster Squad FTW.

Cool pics...tho I wonder if Dreyfuss was actually interviewed...
by Logan_1973
Or if they were just horsing around, or if the pic was staged. Cool to see no matter what.
-
Great pics...that is an interesting notation to the legacy of Jaws. I wonder what Hooper had to concerning the safety of the beaches. And can't wait to see a glorious Monster Squad BTS pic!
-
Remember he was out on one of the boats later keeping watch. Maybe that's why this was cut because it would look like he's being interviewed and then suddenly out in the boats talking to Brody via walkie. Tomorrow's pic isn't spectacular, but it's a very nice shot of one of the monsters.
-
You're probably right for the reason of it being cut. I imagine originally they planned for some interplay between Hooper giving them the disturbing facts and the mayor trying to smooth things over. And any image from the movie will be spectacular in my book....unless it's a graphic close up of wolf man's nards...or maybe especially if it's a graphic close up of wolf man's nards.

is Horace.
-
When he's out of earshot we say, "We're gonna need a bigger boat!" Kills me every time.

So Quint, did you have a nerdgasm when you came across these pics?

Jaws is one of those movies that if you haven't seen--you need to get the fuck outta here until you do.

Bitches love pickles.

Where the story AICN?

Adele let that slip on Jonathan Ross show months ago!

Obviously the scene was being filmed..... Where's the footage?
-
...that I assume everyone has seen and at least enjoyed / appreciated to some degree. The Blu was a sensational experience even on my crappy outdated TV. It's better with Bruce than any CGI piece of shit. Even if Bruce looks phony, he has presence--he communicates a threat. CGI is weightless. And I will always love this film. Maybe not as much as Quint, but still.

Rashomon, we approach this from entirely different points of view
by I am_NOTREAL
...and I admit Bruce does not look like a real shark throughout. But I'll take take over all the empty CGI shit anyone wants to throw at the screen. And that ain't the ravings of some old school codger lunatic, I've felt that way since my early 30s.

SO glad they didn't go with a more literal version based on the book . . .
by elmo
It was so annoying, with Hooper having an affair with Brody's wife and other turgid stuff, could you imagine if the movie had all that bad soap opera in it?
-
There's nothing soft about it
-
to whoever it was that informed me of the Documentary- Special When Lit, not only was it a fun look at the history and future of pinball, there was an uber fan of Jaws featured who prolly would make Quint crap his pants if he ever visited the man's house. he had the barrels! THE ACTUAL BARRELS!
-
Utter shit, but good working-late-background-noise. I would never have watched it if Richard Dreyfuss hadn't made his Hooper cameo in it. Oh and of course, I must recognize Kelly Brook's contribution. That woman makes me proud to be British (because, let's face it, there's not much else).
-
There's nothing creepy about your obsession with Jaws. In fact, your writing, and your Jaws obsession are one of this site's few remaining draws.
-
Is that Spielberg playing the Shark arcade game on the beach, when the camera dollies with Brody out onto the beach? I've since misplaced my Jaws Log and I have the other Making of Jaws book (autographed, funnily enough, by Joe Dante at one of those movie conventions in the 80s -- it had "Dante" inked on the spine so went up and asked him if he'd owned it, he said no, then proceeded to sign the book for me. Cool dude, very nice man), so I can't research this myself. If so, he's got quite a 5 o'clock shadow goin'.

Piraña is great. Watch again after seeing piraña 3DD. The first one is miles better. It's actually a bit of a well rounded production that does everything pretty right.
