Ralph Bakshi returns with an original short film that will ruffle more than a few feathers! Behold TRICKLE DICKLE DOWN!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Ralph Bakshi is a crazy person, but goddamn what a talented crazy person he is. When he came through Austin to show a double feature of Wizards and Coonskin he did a Q&A that showed him at his most humble and his most angry within the span of about 25 minutes. In fact, it ended with him walking out of the Q&A, screaming at the moderator as he left.

The man is passionate and puts himself out there. Always has, always will. And his animation style is incredibly striking and hits so many nostalgia buttons for me it's not even funny.

Now, Bakshi has still been working and he has come up with a new animated short that takes a not-so-subtle stab at Mitt Romney, so my conservative friends might want to wade into this one carefully.

So here you go, the first new Ralph Bakshi animation it, what? A decade? Trickle Dickle Down:

If the only Bakshi animation you've seen is his Lord of the Rings or Cool World, I highly recommend seeking out Fritz the Cat, Coonskin, Wizards, American Pop and the fantastic sword and sandle Frazetta love-letter animated feature Fire and Ice.

Bakshi is apparently hard at work on a series of "Bakshi Blues" shorts, so stay tuned to his YouTube Channel for more from the maestro!

    Liberals are scared

    by macheesmo3

why else would they be so angry about everything? it's hilarious! (and I love how the supposed "open minded" will not miss a chance to call the other side as many names as they can think of, stereotype and put into niches) You do know that just as not all on the left are vegan, homosexual eco-terrorists that not all on the right are rabid pro life, fundamentalist christians right? some of us actually could give two shits about all this social stuff (the only becomes an issue when you whiny malcontents bring it up to draw attention away from your deplorable economic policies) most of us care about minimizing the power of the federal govt, avoiding the nanny state and having Big Govt leave us alone. But you don't care about that, you'd rather whine about the rich while driving your $35,000 SUV to your wayy too large home so you can watch movies on one of your 5 big screen TV's.... the hypocrisy is amusing.

    Fuck Mitt Romney too.

    by Smarty_Feldman

Anyone who even thinks this smirking ignorant shitbag, living in his imagined world where Obama has done nothing but wrecked the country while being a muslim, should be anywhere near launch codes. Can you defend this fuck? You can hate Obama all you want. You can also say you're not racist...but can you defend Mitt Romney at all? What kind of mental backflips do you have to do to justify this horrible person as worthy of running for anything but PERHAPS a co. dog catcher?

  • Sept. 14, 2012, 2:22 p.m. CST

Cheese mo - I aint scared.

    by Smarty_Feldman

I am not scared when every fucking poll, including FOX bullshit has Obama with a wide, wide lead. I'm not scared, but you are right...I am mad, I am mad that Romney has what little support he does have. He's flailing, throwing everything he can at the President, because Mitt is so far behind. You can hate Obama all you want. Let's hear your defense of Mitt Romney, not just the republican way of doing things, but MITT himself...let's hear your defense of this fuck. And to think I have a problem with rich people as a liberal is a fucking straw man. I love having a lot of money just like the next guy, I just don't care for the illegal deceptive ways that people like Mitt obtain it. Do it right, pay what you owe and you can amass all the earthly possessions you want.

    by Isaac Baranoff

Mark Bode has a bug up his butt about Bakshi because Mark has NO FUCKING CAREER and Bakshi does. So he accuses Ralph of "stealing" characters that RALPH CREATED.

  • Gary Johnson has a chance of winning over former Democrats who are dissatisfied with Obama AND former Republicans who want nothing to do with Mitt Romney, due to Johnson being pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-legalization of marijuana, pro-business rights, pro-gun rights and wanting to get rid of income tax. Mitt Romney AND Barack Obama appear to be scared of Gary Johnson, which is why they are trying to keep him out of the debates...

The Republicans are for the rich??

    by The_Closet_Nerd

I am constantly told that being a republican is foolish because they are only for the rich. (I'm a middle class firefighter.) As far as as having anything in common with the rich Democrats OR Republicans, I don't. Who are the Democratic boosters? Actors, athletes, lawyers... All rich people themselves. And they are for more handouts, more welfare. But the rich Republicans (mainly business owners) got that way through work. Hard work. Not like actors or athletes that pose and play for a living. I know what it's like to have to work for my money, like many business owners do. They expect everyone to be responsible for themselves, not to look to others to take care of them. And that's why the Republicans will always get my vote.

    More like John Walker Animation....

    by Lao_Che_Air_Freight

I like Bakshi ok enough, but, what did Ralph actually have to do with this beside slap his name on it? Sure it looks like his stuff, what little of it is actually animation and not the camera panning over a couple of background paintings. Looks like someone cut out one of the 15 second doodles from the bottom of the screen in Cool World, and slapped it over new background painting, and then added 90 seconds of opening and closing credits, and viola, a new work by Ralph Bakshi. Worst Cartoon Ever (ok not really, but had to work CBG in there somewhere)

    by Monroville

So when did it become controversial to want babies to live? Don't we have a trillion dollar socialist system designed to "help" single parents out? As far as "forcing" women to have babies... as opposed to forcing women to: - pay taxes - obey traffic signals/rules - obey other laws, like you can't just shoot whatever man cheated on you If women are so upset about being forced to suffer for a child, then why can't that same woman "choose" not to pay taxes or be compassionate to anyone else? Why is it okay to abort a fetus but not the felon who created the fetus? You know, we have something called SCIENCE that can determine if/when a fetus can feel pain... would you pro-abortion types be okay with abortion being illegal up to that point, or do you just "want what you want" regardless of who is hurt in the process? And as far as the "fundamentalist christian" thing goes... when was the last time a FC blew anyone or anything up.. you know, as opposed to those peace loving muslims that have just dropped a number of terroristic activities (or threats of) around the world: http://www.drudgereport.com/ Are any of you really paying attention, or are your heads up your asses so much all you can see is your own shit? I can't and won't defend Romney because he is rich enough to defend himself... but to PRETEND he is even EQUAL to the threat Obama has made himself due to 4 years of disleadership and the actual RESULTS of his policies (because I don't remember Bush forcing us to go through irradiating body scanners and allowing TSA members to legally get away with groping children). Blame Bush for opening the door, but blame Obama for going full speed ahead.

But I do care what you think about film, fuckers! So, I personally don't like Bakshi's work. I find it sloppy, especially the character expressions which are overly exaggerated and emote to the point of being unpleasant to watch. Every character seems like a hyperbole. I rewatched Fire and Ice last week and find it's still just terrible; poor animation, poor sound and score, tedious language, and dull stories.

Actually, if he had left Romney's name and that stupid nazi shit out it would have been a fairly clever, albeit simple, critique of trickle down. Really. Bakshi did some decent stuff in the day, but just because he puts out political hack material for the messiah doesn't make this cool or news. Old Ralph was cutting edge in his time; this is material is simply conforming to the leftist majority in Hollywood, which is hardly controversial or original. Also, accusing your opponent of being a Nazi is the lowest, cheapest form of political discourse, especially without any evidence to back it up. It's second only to calling your opponent a racist for having a differing viewpoint, which is the preferred form of left wing political cowardice parading as insightful commentary today. Quint, I love your stuff, but this is beneath you.

    @isaacbaranoff - Re: Gary Johnson

    by alpeter3

Isaac, I'm a former Republican, turned Democrat in the 90s and I hate the Tea Party more than I hate the idea of waking up in bed next to that little shit, Joffrey, from Game of Thrones. I do plan to vote for Obama as a lesser-of-two-evils vote, but no, I'm not scared of Romney for the reasons others have mentioned, but I'm also not scared of Gary Johnson. In fact, I like Gary Johnson. If I felt he had even a small chance at winning, I'd strongly consider voting for him. He's socially liberal and fiscally conservative and he doesn't apologize for either. I wish more politicians were like him. Maybe he'll be a force to move us in the right direction but I think you and I both know he simply can't win. So we're forced to vote for one of two guys who, despite the rhetoric, BOTH want big government, they just each want THEIR big government. So I'll side with the guy who wants big government in favor of the middle class rather than big government in favor of the over-privileged. But thanks for posting about Gary Johnson. I didn't know much about him but now that I've read about him, I'll be keeping up with his campaign. I hope he sticks to his guns and maybe runs again in 4 years. Maybe by then he can get more of his message out and have a better shot at getting elected.

@the_closet_nerd Re: The GOP and money

    by Isaac Baranoff

The last time there was a sensible Republican with a chance of winning the nomination was Ron Paul. And the GOP shut him out so they could push in a candidate that could help push forward their corporate sponsors agenda. Pushing aside the fact that the GOP's social positions tend to be really bad, the Party also pushed forward crap like the Patriot Act, and supports NDAA, indefinite detention, endless wars, TSA, TARP, and the Federal Reserve counterfeiting system...and unfortunately the Democratic Party doesn't differ in the slightest in regards to these positions. Quite frankly, with the GOP supporting stuff like this, it's remarkable how they're still claimed to be supporters of small government and capitalism, with policies that increase the size of government and deter capitalism. They share a lot of the same financial positions as the Democrats. Actually, if you're voting based on your finances, you should just vote Libertarian, because they support both financial AND social freedom. And the Libertarian financial platform is better than the GOP's.

That's a perfectly valid reason to dislike Obama. But unfortunately the people still running the GOP are the same people who gave us our last Republican representative. The guy who take a good situation and turned it into a disaster. I don't invoke He Who Shall Be Whitewashed in the hope of starting a fight. I know that one's shitty job doesn't negate anothers. It's just an example of the mental gymnastics that Republicans have had to pull for a while now to convince not just everybody else, but themselves of the following points: -After Bush Sr. left office, the world was a practical Eden. Then twenty years disappeared and when everybody came to some black guy had ruined the country. -Facts are debatable and often just lies the media has created.... even when it's unedited video of them saying the thing they are denying. -There was this America in the past when everything was great for everybody. Unfortunately the time they end up referring to is pre-60's, when white men smoking pipes and pushing lawnmowers ruled the earth and the minorities and women knew their place. For those reasons, I can't support the Republican party in this election. If it comes down to voting for a wussy Muslim or a mental patient... I just won't vote. People may say that's a waste of my deocracy, but I'd like a little more common sense and honesty in my democracy. Until then the only way to get my voice heard politically is with a check. And most of mine bounce already. And just so I'm not picking solely on the GOP, I need somebody to help me make a shirt that says, "I Voted for Obama... and All I Got Was Jury Duty."

Ultratron, I think I love you

    by Ian Breske

    1) I loved Fire and Ice when I was 12 or so. Gave me a little boner. Watch it again and realize how much it sucked. 2) Barrack Hussein hates America and laughs his ass off at you white guilted liberals that elected him. 3) Are there any actual black people that would write in to this stupid talk back that watched that? Cause it seems pretty fucking racist to me. You wouldn't catch Allen West or Condoleezza Rice picking through a garbage can. Or taking a fucking hand out cause of their color. Democrats = slavery by handouts. Just like in the times of Lincoln.

  • But this is good practice for Bakshi if he wants to take another stab at Mitt Romney in four months when he, y'know, actually holds political power.

  • Yeah, Ralph, there's a reason Barry O.'s hitting up George Clooney and not you for campaign cash when he jets off to Vegas fundraisers during international crises.

I think I pinpointed what irks me about politics is contained in both of your points. It's the smugness. I'm not saying that you are smug, but the way certain people talk... that creamy fuck-you-ness just oozing from their mouths... it concerns me. I'll concede that if the Democrats win, it will more than likely be by the skin of the teeth. And I will also concede that the smugness is present there too. Maybe I'm just a walking vagina, but is it so wrong to state your distaste or grievances with somebody's differing political views without resorting to being mean or egotistical about it? And why is being a decent human being considered a weakness these days? Like I said before, I don't think you're smug. I think what you said definitely could be contstrued as so. That being said, you seem to have a sense of humor and your grammar is pretty remarkable, especially for this TB. I hope you don't think I'm a dick for saying all that, because deep down I know you aren't really a smug prick either. That being said, I agree with you on the video. It's a poor rehash with a message about as subtle as a chainsaw to the taint. I really hope this isn't the best Bakshi has to offer anymore.

    Bakshi's work is amazinng

    by Drew DeWindt

I have seen and enjoyed all of his movies and enjoyed the depth and complexity of the true story behind the story - the stereotypes used in Coonskin were difficult to swallow but important in the light the shined on race relations, the creatures used as Nazi's in Wizards were ugly and deformed monsters to show the ugliness and cruelty they did. The over the top sexuality in both Fritz the Cat movies as well as Heavy Traffic were used to describe free sexuality and the thin line that could be crossed into depravity - if you haven't seen his movies do all you can to find them and check them out - even the light Cool World which was far more commercial than the depths he usually reaches for!

Coonskin was his greatest film and it was censored not by evil right-wing Republicans, it was condemned as racist and censored by the LEFT and the NAACP. Young Leftards don't know their own history.

Don't believe it? Check out the youtube videos of interviews with Obama voters asking them about his policies (except actually reading off McCain's policies). Those numbskulls loved everything said as long as they thought is was from their black messiah.

The lefties are in love with massive taxes to fund their social experiments that have been failing since the 60's. Liberals refuse to acknowledge reality, they will lie to everyone and themselves about how human nature works. You will never be able to solve poverty. Sure, the government COULD pay for it, but it would never last and our country is too vast for such an idiotic concept. You know how u get out of poverty, hard work and education. IF you won't do either, enjoy your poverty, you are an idiot. There has been and always will be people who refuse to work. I've witnessed it many times in my own family, friend's family's and in my neighborhood. Laziness is and will always be here. Guess what it comes in all shapes sizes, races and colors. NOT one race holds the monopoly on laziness. Stop allowing the public to be taxed because they money is not going where it needs to... Seriously, WHY would anyone with a strong worth etic and dignity want to be a liberal today? Unless you enjoy being a wimpy, emo pussy? If the government and liberals are so hellbent on spending money, do it for something that's worthwhile... I do think the government should pay for free college. If you flunk out, you have to pay it back. Educating people would eliminate a lot of, if not all social issues... but then the Liberals don't want that because they want to control people and aren't happy unless there is some sort of disenfranchisement from some crybaby.
