Do Some Close Quarters Combat With This New UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING Trailer!!
What’s up, Contenders? Terry Malloy here reporting live from the Waterfront.
The folks over at Coming Soon.net pointed me over to a new trailer for UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING, which is being released by Magnet.
I’ve let you all know before that I’m actually a bigger fan of the latest UNISOL film, REGENERATION, than I am of the original film. So I’m quite excited to see what director John Hyams has in store for us in this latest iteration. Sure, it seems like SO much of the original mythology from the first film is gone. But, to be honest, this franchise lost almost all of its steam before inexplicably gaining new life under the watchful eye of Hyams. So, I’m okay with doing away with the Vietnam flashbacks, or the requirement that the UniSols remain refridgerated or they shut down. Hyams seems to be taking these characters on very unexpected journeys and I’m all for something unique to come out of a longstanding franchise.
What do you think?
My favorite aspect of this new trailer is the insane looking close quarters gunplay going on. Even though I just spent a whole paragraph above talking about the characters and their interesting departures from earlier films, we all just really want the action scenes to kick ass. And if the stuff we see in this trailer isn’t ALL the good stuff, then maybe Hyams will manage to offer a sequel on par with his last outing! Here’s to hoping.
UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING will be available On Demand Oct. 25th, and in theaters Nov. 30th.
And I’m Out.

Van Damme is the star and yet says nothing in the entire trailer?

Did you really say "in theaters?" You're friggin' kidding me.

Just looks terrible to me. Not into that at all. This "franchise" said all it needed to say with the first movie.
-
That movie is as overhyped as Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus were a few months ago.. And those didn't live up to their hype..

...coz I saw that cat get, like, ripped the fuck up. but I'm so behind the times, the only sequel I saw was the Uni Sol 2 without Van Damme. you know.. blood brothers...? the return looked pretty shocking.

Was hoping this would kick as much ass as the previous.

Going by the trailer though, it won't. Which is not to say that I don't hope I'm surprised - I'd love for it to thoroughly brutalise me - I just highly doubt it will.

...the horror, the horror...

this is even geting a theatre release. Seems hollywood are relying on old action heroes these days. Looks dreadful. Can't be any worse than some of the so-called action fare we are subjected to these days. Was that Ray(Darth Maul)Park, hooded and carrying the bat?...for a moment there it looked like him.

It's really good to see the that the quality of films starring Van Dame have not improved!

He's covering this and the new movie by those Act of Valor numbskulls. Does this guy have a big piece of spam for a neck, is he one of those big dumb John Cena looking idiots that watches the SuperBowl and catcalls women? This guy has the worst taste since Uwe Boll. Get him outta here, this site is for good filmmaking!

Good film making? Have you been to this site? It's atrocious.

I hope this can match it--even if the trailer was lackluster.

And then I watched this trailer and realized that he's truly fucking terrible.

@goldentribe: AGREED! That trailer music is pure misery. Action beats looked solid though.

Looked pretty okay. I'm not sure he'd pull off Luke Cage though...

To be completely honest I want to see this for Kurtz...er, Luc...

The rest of it looks suitably action-y (Random Scantily Clad Chick aside), but a bald JCVD leading an army/cult? That's just too cracked out not to miss.

Forget Van Damme and Lundgren, if its got Scott Adkins, I'm in. Check out Undisputed III: Day of Reckoning for great MMA action

I've seen the original Universal Soldier, haven't caught the rest though i did watch Regeneration about a week ago.

And it was ATROCIOUS! Poorly directed, script made no sense, terribly weak action, no motivation or character development...it was on life support quite frankly. I expected a little more than what i got. This...looks just as bad, if not better. Not a well made trailer at all. And as much as i like Scott Adkins and have been hoping for him to get a bigger profile, he seriously runs the risk of repeating himself if he just does the same 4-5 signature kicks instead of mixing new stuff up for each film.
