The Next Bill Murrays Or The Next Ann Risleys?? Meet SNL’s Three New Cast Members!!
With the summer departures of Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abby Elliott, “Saturday Night Live’s” Sept. 15 premiere will feature three new players imported from Chicago’s Second City (which has already given us everybody from Bill Murray and John Belushi to Mike Myers and Chris Farley to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler):
* Aidy Bryant was an ensemble member of the Second City E.T.C Stage.
* Tim Robinson performed on Second City’s Mainstage and in its national touring company.
* Cecily Strong has performed as a member of the Second City national touring company

its looking like the republican national convention up in here am i right?

COME ON. -Namaste-

I do admit, I tune in from time to time, but after a few minutes, I switch the channel. The "humor" is forced and awkwardly performed by a cast that think they are just the funniest thing since Mitt Romney. These new members should fit in just fine as Second City seems to crank out stale, awkward "comedians" that think they are hilarious, but are actually quite the opposite.
-
Tim Johnson is on one of the best teams at iO here in Chicago and is fucking hilarious. Maybe he wont translate well to sketch but it's hard to judge from mediocre videos.

Or the next cast members whose name you'll never remember because they're not worth remembering.

Wouldn't brag about it to my friends, but i'd still go for it

We went to college together! She's one of the funniest people I know. Congrats girl!

You mean like Ann Risley?

geared toward the two or three fortysomethings who might remember, but likely can only recall the inexplicable charles rocket.

And I support that.

Ha! I recall a drunken Charlie Rocket dropping the F bomb

bomb on live TV..and I remember larry davids sigle appearance

damn famous...has yet to make me laugh
-
That's hardcore. And I have two things to say about him: a) Piscopo conspired to destroy his career. He really WAS the funniest person of the Season 6 cast. And the most intelligent. b) I've been to the Connecticut town where he killed himself. There is something strange about that town. A creepy vibe you cannot describe. Go to Canterbury CT and see for yourself. It's straight out of American Horror Story.

One of the last cable things I ordered before switching to iTunes was SNL
by tangcameo
Found out Kate Bush made one appearance back in the 70s. Managed to find it on my cable's on-demand. Saved it and cancelled my cable. Poor Charlie Rocket. And what a sad but ballsy way to go. Not many deaths by sword these days I don't think.

... with other cast members.. like Terry Sweeney and Brad Hall. And Ann Risley.
-
...that "Ugly Baby" skit was fucking terrible. That guy will not be around for long.

Ann Risley was better than anyone who has been on this show in recent years. That's not saying much....This show sucks.....
by yeah i'm a jerk!
Kristen Wiig=Not funny Andy Samburg=Not funny the other nameless tools on that show=Not funny Why drag Bill Murray's name into this?
-
There's not enough talent. This upcoming season has Sudakis and Header. That's it. And neither of them are really movie stars. They mostly play suporting characters. SNL needs a star, badly. They keep producing supporting actors, not stars. Kristen Wiig isn't a star. Bridesmaids was a hugely overrated movie, but she didnt carry the movie. It was an ensemble movie. Andy Samberg's movie career has had a horrible track record. But look at all the people who have left SNL in the last few years. No one has become big from SNL in a while. They keep bringn
-
They keep bringing in a few so/so people and a lot of bad ones. My guess is that all the talented people turndown SNL. They need to find maybe three really good people and it could turn the show around. But everytime they bring in new people, most are DOA. And these three newbies don't really sound promising.
-
All these straight edge, hipster douche comedians make me want to puke in my Wheaties & Beer. Give me the high, coked up motherfuckers who all slept together again!!

Ooh yes one more thing why do people always have to say something negative just to be negative? You don't have to hate to stand out like your the expert on something.

the better the yadda yadda.

The problem is the writing. I don't feel like there's as much envelope pushing as there was back in the 90-early aughts. It's not perfect but I actually have higher hopes for some of these featured players once they go "full cast" then I have had for quite a few of the recent ones. I still watch the show and enjoy it quite a bit sometimes. Taran Killam. Sorry, guy's just funny. He'll be one of the first to break out I think. Not sure what it is but his Brad Pitt is funny as hell to me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yH1nrIby8YA Once Kate McKinnon settles down she seems to have the making of a pretty talented comedienne Jay Pharoah just isn't that good. Yes he's great with impressions but that seems to be the extent of it. He's about as funny as my roommate which is not what I'm looking for on a show of this caliber. I saw him as "himself" on ESPN's First Take and he just fell so flat. Too bad really cause there are tons of talented black comedians out there SNL just can't or won't get them on air I watched some of Aidy Bryant's stuff the other day when I heard she got hired and she's def got some talent.Certainly a better actor then at least a couple that have come through SNL lately. It's true that Herc picked some awful skits to showcase some of these new cast members which is odd given what a defender he is of the show. Check out her "Shrink" appearance on vimeo. Quality dry humor http://vimeo.com/40542343 In fact as I watched that short I found myself really interested in the actor playing the shrink and he's got some great stuff out there as well. Gonna keep my eye on him

Just because somebody has talent doesn't mean you can be a SNL player. It takes someone who can handle the rigorous schedule, mimicktry, writing, improv, setting aside ego for the team. Just because you are a good comedian or can do great impersonations doesn

Ben Stiller left the show, janeane garofalo left,Sahrah Silverman and a host of others have left for one reason or another cause the system didn't work for them. So it's not that SNL does'nt try to get talent its does the talent can work within the SNL sys

Say what you will about Mad TV, but they had the most diverse cast, and although no true breakout stars, a lot of talented utility players..

Jay Pharoah may not be great, but his Denzel is fantastic
by I_Snake_Plissken
The skit they did last year where they were trying to find a co-host for Kelly Lee and Pharoah showed up as Denzel was hilarious. His rapid fire progression of Denzel expression changes (for no real reason) was genius. Worth looking up online if you haven't seen it.
-
They will let Jay Pharoah do something else besides impressions.

I guess Wiig's huge hit and Oscar nomination aren't enough. Nor Fey's career in TV, books and (crappy) movies. And Poehler, with just a prime time series, she's nothing!

Will bet you my life savings ($137.23) that she plays Snooki on the premiere. Other than that, I guess she gets Rachel Dratch's old sketches that didn't make air.

Only a handful of strong talent after the first two seasons

Eddie Murphy Billy Crystal Phil Hartman Will Ferrell After that comes lower tier comics like Short, Farley, Spade and Sandler. And then a whole litany of mediocre talent.

Not every performer goes on to be a big star okay people. Not the way the world is. For Michael Jordan there was Scottie Piipen,President Obama there's VP Bidden,George Clooney there's Brad Pitt. So enough with which SNL players were bigger than the next.

Say what you will about Madtv but it ended and nobody put up a fuss to bring it back and there sketches will never be as memorable as the SNL ones.

-
Michaela Watkins (fired for being too funny!?) Casey Wilson (funny but never breaks out, ends up better off in a multi-season sitcom) Chris Kattan (finds popularity by being paired with a more talented co-star and aspires to a post-SNL career as fruitful as Rob Schneider's)

I hate to speak ill of the dead, but Rocket wasn't funny on the show - I loved him in supporting roles that he would pop up in after SNL, but he had Weekend Update and The Rocket Report - TWO segments where it was just him - and nobody was laughing. In those shows, it was the goddamn weinerville puppet that was getting the biggest response. And a young comedian named Eddie Murphy.

I'm sorry, but I think Lorne needs to go. It's time. Everybody wants to talk about Jay Leno needing to retire, what about Lorne? The only thing he can do at this point is harm the show. And SNL might want to look for talent in places other than Second City/Groundlings/ICO/UCB/Harvard Lampoon. That is part of the reason why their comedy is so inbred.
