John Ary here with a look at Noburu Iguchi's Karate-Robo Zaborgar, a Kaiju film based on a 70's kids show from Japan. In a time when practically every commercial property from our youth is being mined by Hollywood, transformed into a darker grittier version of itself and then rebooted after a few tries, Zaborgar is a refreshing change of pace. Iguchi has taken the core concept of the original show, updated it with modern special effects, added some adult humor, and imagined how the actions of the main character as a young man would effect his life 25 years later. The result is a fun man-in-suit adventure that stuffs 10 pounds of explosions, missiles shooting out of cyborg lady bras, robot kung fu, and old school camp into a 5 pound bag.
