Here's The Trailer For Barry Levinson's Found-Footage Horror Movie (Yeah, You Read That Right) THE BAY!
Nordling here.
Judging from the title, Barry Levinson has made a monster movie about a giant Michael Bay terrorizing a small summer community on the Fourth of July. But the trailer is surprisingly effective - I certainly never expected Barry RAIN MAN Levinson to make a found-footage environmental horror movie - and I've been wanting to see it since I first heard about it last year.
Now, it's almost here, and here's the trailer. You can find it also at Apple:
THE BAY opens November 2nd in theaters as well as on VOD. Can this please play Fantastic Fest? Here's hoping. I really dig the trailer a lot.

And while I like Levinson, I am so tired of this genre
by I_Snake_Plissken

Pretty average. Also, don't see much in the way of a reason for it being found footage - looks like it could have easily been shot with a tripod.

Where's the "FUCK YOU MICHAEL BAY" guy when you need him?

Really, Barry Levinson? Found footage?
-
really, I've had it
-
I'll give End of Watch & Chronicle credit for taking the found footage into a different genre. But in all honesty I'm tired of it.

And I'm a big strong man...

A shaky-cam, unfunny version of "Slither."

I don't understand who was supposed to have shot all this found footage.
by Gabe Athouse
Like the shot of the upper story of a house - there's a struggle inside, a gun goes off. We see it and hear it. How did this happen? Who set up the camera and then ran a mic into the fucking house? Who set up a camera pointing inside the woman's car in the last shot? ANSWER ME! Michael Bay must have something to do with this.
-
This is why I rarely go to the movies.

Also, looks like a silly concept that takes itself too seriously. As someone said above, unfunny Slither

Not amazing or ground-breaking, but taken seriously for what it is. I don't mind found footage and pretty much just ignore the "why the hell would they film that" conundrum. Has a lot of classic horror phobias: fear of the unknown, fear of parasites, fear of insects, eco-disasters, etc. Sure, it will be predictable and rely on jump scares, but that happens to work. So really I'm not sure what the fuck you are all bitching about.

Also, hate found footage. Only not entirely arse on I've seen is Blair Witch, and that's only because at the time it was an interesting experiment

And the government could not possibly have confiscated ALL of these different sources of footage. And not one person uploaded anything to YOUTUBE?

Found footage movies have got to go! (or at least be retired for 10-15 years)
-
The thing about gimmicky genre movies is that they need to have a cool conceptual hook. Like, Cloverfield, despite its flaws, at least had some interesting things going on with the monster. In real life, something like this would be scary, but as a film, its fucking boring. Bugs and zombies.
-
If anything remotely interesting happens today there are gonna be a few dozen bystanders shooting it with camera phones and uploading it to YouTube in an hour.
-
snore.
-
run of the mill boring ass bullshit.

TOYS.
You heard it here first.

So this is not to be confused with the dead "found footage" ABC series, The River, produced by Oren Peli, dealing with some kind of aquatic menace?
by openthepodbaydoorshal
And unfortunately, because of the cost factor, I don't see the found footage genre going away any time soon.
-
he's still setting stuff in MD. I'm sure at the end, there remains a threat that whatever is in the Chesapeake is going to move up the potapsco to Baltimore and west through the potomac to DC. etc. etc.
-
I see Barry Levinson has been doing TV movies for a while (ahem).
-
it was somewhat clever with Blair Witch (a mediocre film, at best) but has been increasingly annoying as hell ever since. The Bay looks like about 50 other "horror" films/TV shows put out in the past 5 yrs. Pass.

This is based on a true thing that is unspeakably horrible
by Raptor Jesus
There is a parasite that climbs into fishes mouths, eats their tongues and then sits there eating all the food the fish eats. Darwin and his contemporaries had their faith in God shaken by true nature stuff like this. In nature there are horrible parasites and suffering beyond belief. How could there be a God that would allow such things, they wondered?

You know...like all magic/supernatural fables.

How can something look so good and so tired AT THE SAME TIME!?!
by UltimaRex
Answer me, how?
-
So, will there be found footage from the hidden popcorn box cam?
While this genre is kinda fun- finally caught Chronicle and enjoyed it for what it was- but, I'm sorry, cinema, it ain't. Grainy surveillance video, shaky cams and shock edits, while potentially cool, are no real substitute for excellent writing, brilliant direction, effective editing, beautifully composed shots and, oh yes, AC-TING! I'd say the found footage genre is more akin to to the grindhouse grist of the 1960s.
-
Seriously, why do they keep making this shit?.....oh that's right because 95% of Humans are dumb enough to pay to see it (and then buy it on Blu,the Uncut! version of course)

doing it in all the wrong way. Oh, Barry...Such a shame. Loved, "Rain Man", "Good Morning, Vietnam" and shit, even, "Toys". But this...Really?

I was there. I thought the government covered this up. But nooooo.

I don't have any problem with this being 'found footage' at all...
by J.B.M.A.
It's like saying "God, I'm SOOO tired of slasher movies" or "Fuck this serial killer crap" - it's a complete nonsense. The film will be good or bad based on its script, cast and direction - not if it happens to fit a narrow genre trope.
-
We seem to finally have a found footage movie with a budget behind it. And a proven director. So maybe this will be a found footage tent pole, like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity. Speaking of found footage, anyone seen Atrocious yet on streaming? Creepy as hell.

A small summer community on the 4th of July... just outside Baltimore?
by tangcameo
Will a gigantic creature flatten a traincar Diner full of guys in tuxedos who just left a wedding? Will the people whose names an autistic man remembers out of the phonebook end up dying a mysterious gruesome death involving toothpicks and pancakes, on a Thursday, definitely on a Thursday. Will a .... will a... damn. Couldn't think of a funny one for Avalon.

This was filmed in my hometown and my daughter has a small speaking role in it. We were on set for a couple of days. The whole experience was really cool and I hope the movie is great.

But that's because I'm a Tori Amos fan and have the movies she had non-album music on. I even have Mona Lisa Smile - and i LOATHE that movie - except for the 15 seconds Tori's in it. It makes Mad Men look progressive.

Man, that is truly an untapped sub-sub-sub-genre of horror. Maybe this film will make mutated crustaceans the new long-black-haired ghost girl of cinema?
-
Seriously what are peoples expectations nowadays. Sheesh. You have a VERY capable director making a horror movie, which by the trailer looks to be on a huge scale. All these armchair critics, who probably couldnt put together a beginning, a middle, and an end to a story blasting it. I thought it was especially creepy when that thing came out of the fishes mouth onto the hand of the fisherman. Thats some scary shit. Maybe they aren't zombies, but moving vehicles for the growing slugs that get to huge sizes. Who knows, all I do know is I am looking forward to this.
-
They should have set this movie in the gulf of mexico and tied it to last years environmental catastrophe.... but that's just me. You know Barry Levinson made OZ, right? This director is a goddamn genius. Sorry there isn't enough winking at the camera and smarmy ass dialogue to keep your fucking whedon twits happy.

Bitch, please. Maryland is the LAST fucking place that tongue-eating, mind-controlling oceanic bugs would want to invade. We are the natural fucking predators of anything like that. Boiling water, some Old Bay, a mallet, some corn on the cob, and these things would make a tasty Sunday treat during a Ravens game!
-
I keep a can of Old Bay in MY FUCKING CAR (I am not lying) just in case I purchase something I want to put it on. If one of these little things tried to fuck with I'd reach in my glove compartment and Old Bay the shit out of it. And it would be delish.
