Neil Gaiman Now Penning Third Draft Of New DOCTOR WHO Likely To Air Next Year!!
"Only a fool or a mad man would try to do it again ... so I'm on the third draft," Neil Gaiman said of his new “Doctor Who” script, which will likely evolve into an episode airing next year.
Gaiman made the comment while accepting a Hugo for an earlier “Who” teleplay titled “The Doctor’s Wife.”
Gaiman, famous for his excellent “Sandman” and “Death” graphic novels (among many other things), said the new episode would air no sooner than the second half of season seven.

love Neil Gaimans writing. Hope Guillermo del Toro sometimes would do a Neverwhere-Movie. He or Terry Gilliam would pe perfect for this.

err... well yea, considering each of the 2012 episodes of series 7 have long been totally in the can, that's a pretty obvious detail
by TheSeeker7
That his would air no sooner than the back 7 of 2013. In fact, honestly, I'd kinda taken for granted that even most of those had been shooting already.
-
I've always suspected that they would have to make Mayhew an American to appeal to a US audience, but I would love that. The second I read the novel, (which is vastly superior to the BBC serial it was based on), I saw Rhys Ifans as De Carabas (and, strangely, Ronnie Corbett as Mr Croup, which is kinda odd. The brits will know why) I love Gaiman's work. I was lucky enough to read one of his poems, as a reading, at a wedding I went to recently.

and, hang on... that article says The Doctor's Wife was originally set for broadcast within series 5, but got bumped to 6. How's that possible? It has a moment that references something that didn't happen til the END of series 5

When Amy and Rory keep getting split up in the labyrinth of hallways in the Tardis and time keeps fucking with them, she runs into a super "old" version of Rory, and he complains "I already waited 2000 years for you, how could you do this to me again ?!"<br> <br> Of course the 2000 year wait references his guard duty as the Last Centurian that occurs during the 2-parter finale of series 5.

long after the decision had been made to produce the episode as part of season 6.

She's been a tree, a mermaid, Delirium, Scarlet, and possibly herself in Gaiman's work. Maybe there'll be a nod to her in this new epi.
-
Seriously, this is the calibre of writer you should be getting for Doctor Who all the bloody time, not Chris fucking Chibnall and Mark bore-me-fucking-sideways Gatiss.
-
He seemed to be deep into the writing more than a year ago, and yet we've heard nothing.

I'm confused about this. Can MOV or anyone shed light?
by chronicallydepressedlemming
I thought the reason we had such a long hiatus until this season started was so there wouldn't be any mid season split and that all of season 7 is done and in the can. so either: a) Gaiman has got mixed up and its Season 8 he's writing for. b) this is old news and the episode has already been shot. c) they are still doing a mid season break. so why did they have the long hiatus?

scratchmonkey, you don't like Mark Gatiss?
by chronicallydepressedlemming
The guy seriously knows his horror and Who. He's the ideal person to be writing for the show. True, alot of his stuff for Who so far seems to be lighter than what I would have expected from him, but I'd love to see him go to town on a proper horror episode.
-
i'm the only person on the planet who hated "The Doctor's Wife" aren't I?
-
There is going to be a split. We get 5 episodes now, a break until the Christmas special and then a break until the rest of series 7 next year. I, like most other people, am not particularly happy about this and many people suspect that the rest of series 7 along with the 2013 Christmas special is all we might get next year. A lot of Who fans feeling a bit miffed at this.
-
To further clarify...the delay was never about removing the split. They liked how the split worked last season; it's not going anywhere. The delay was about a combination of avoiding the Olympics and the production team moving from Upper Boat to their new facilities. And I know (as sminkypinky says) that many who fans think we're only going to get the rest of S7 and the 2013 xmas special next year, but there's simply no real evidence for this. From what my sources have told me, the current plan (*always subject to change*) is something like: * Early 2013: the remainder of S7 * Summer 2013: a special of some type * Fall 2013: The first part of S8, which may be as 2-3 90 minute specials instead of 5-6 45-minute episodes. Every effort will be made to have at least one air on the anniversary day itself.
-
House was creepy as hell.
-
My understanding was that the latter half of s7 is already being filmed? If true, I doub't he's writing for s7. So, either s8 or possibly the 50th anniversary special? Doubt that though, I'm sure Moff would take that gig.
-
Why can't I travel back in time to correct my spelling before hitting submit?

Gaiman getting the writer's duty for the 50th annv. would be an excellent choice! And Terrance Dicks is still alive, if anyone's interested!

I disliked it, a lot. It felt mawkish, contrived, and far less "Who" than anything even RTD threw at the wall. The most annoying thing is that so many people love that episode and I just don't get why.
-
I suspect though that it will get pushed to being a special or to Season 8 though. I wonder if he's going to get to use his Planet of the Rain People beginning here that he had wanted to use for the beginning of The Doctor's Wife.
-
...that he would be doing a cybermen story. Rebooting them if you will... which makes me very happy because the current ones are cack. I hate the zombie style of them and that awful 'delete' catchphrase. The classic ones were much better in regards of character.
-
Is nonsense. I'm pretty sure the 'delete' catchphrase is already gone, by the way. But in any case, the rumor came from some tabloid with no basis in fact. It's *possible* that the Gaiman story is for the latter half of S7; there are still a couple episodes to shoot. But S8 is also more likely.
