Can I come????

You forgive him for his review? In other words, you forgive him for his opinion? Like Harry's review is this high and mighty opinion, the opinion of all opinions? Good lord people move on. And for the record TDKR was bad. Like, stupid bad.

it's like this. You'd like to see dark knight rises in IMAX 70 mil square format. You would like that because it's
by UltraTron
like.. Well sorry kids but it's the only actual tall format IMAX blockbuster movie ever made besides avatar and what else? What? Yeah. So hope ya saw that one because it's the only one with skyscrapers that look actual size and shit. All other IMAX is just blown up with black bars. Harry didn't tell you that shit I know. He's not the most technical or practicle person on these types of things.

fix your computer.

Those actions sequences are amazing.

Oh, HARRY'S *hosting the first public screening* of the restored RAIDERS. I guess my screening last November was a collective hallucination...and theirs, too: http://raven.theraider.net/showthread.php?t=18467&page=27

etc.

It's a squalid college town with a (singular) theater pub. Yet they get great billings.
-
Were you negative against, "The Dark Knight Rises"?...Oh well - each to their own i guess. As for, "Raiders": The epitomy of the summer movie experience; i'd watch the friggin' thing anywhere. It's Spielberg's Citizen Kane.
-
actually we have many theater pubs in town.
-
That's what Paramount said to bill it as.
-
Sept. 5, 2012, 2:54 a.m. CST
@headgeek: New York's IFC was the first to have the 4K restoration>2K DCP last year. First screening in an IMAX auditorium would be your proper billing.
by justmyluck
-
Paramount is who states what the event will be billed as.
-
Their phrase. You're hosting the first public screening.
-
No different than going to a standard theater and sitting in the very front row.
-
The website? DVD review? etc.,...
-
oh god i just made a BBT joke.
-
Harry, Let us know what you think on the transfer. Taking my boys to go see it on Sunday. Excited to take them as they have not only never seen it on the big screen, but have never seen an IMAX movie. Can't wait to see it on the big screen again!
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKpHUhtoLOw This is why I am the ultimate superfan!!!!
-
You're a moron. Move on.
-
Samsara. it was FILMED in 70mm, not this cash grab blow up nonsense.
-
Just before the movie starts, Knowles will come rolling down the stairs of the auditorium of the theatre, recreating the scene where the giant boulder chases Indy.
-
Assuming anyone who sees this can survive the BO that will doubtless permitae the auditorium courtesy of the event's host, can you let me know if the print includes the new CGI shot of the nazi vehicle dropping down the cliff? Raiders was recently shown on BBC HD here in England and the original matte painting of the cliff face has been replaced by a pretty piss poor CGI effect. And no, I'm not joking (any fellow Brit care to confirm this please?). I'd kind of expected movie expert Harry Knowles to already have reported on this. But then I remembered this isn't 1995 any more and this site is a piece of shit nowadays.
-
This man had no dick (sorry) The BBC version had a pointless cgi effect..
-
Don't forget Knolwes believes everything the studios tell him. Like *Harry, you're opinion is important* And *Harry, we have great respect for you* And *We want you to host the first Imax screening because you are such a movie expert* Of course the reality is that the industry collectively thinks that Knowles is an idiot and AICN is a joke, but it the overall scheme of things some false compliments and a bit of studio swag are a very cheap way of getting a bit of publicity.
-
Thank you. (nice Ghostbusters joke btw).
-
Well, since you posted it you should expect some critique. That looked really slapped together without much attention to any detail. Kind of Ed Wood with a Handycam.
-
...can sukk a d}kk. If I had access to nukes, I would blow it up. No town should be so privileged to host such cool events.
-
...the hel} made Austin the center of the G0D Dammd universe?
-
rlenker3, Jesus, AINC, and Zilker park man. Not in that order.
-
Thanks Harry!
-
quit Harry Hatin' (it's fuckin boring) and focus on the fact some of us GET TO SEE INDIE ON THE BIG SCREEN. that trumps your whining and pedantry quite soundly. I'm happy for him and the fellow geeks that *once again* get treated to some first class geek hospitality, something unfortunately lacking here in Sydney (man i wish we got more events here...).
-
I live in Houston and I cannot attend

what the hell is in Austin? Harry just sign a god damned deal with universal, throw a bunch of tampon ad's on the front of the site and make this dream a multicultural interstate affair.

Here it's showing close to me. Liemax is useless, for this. Still, hope everyone has a ton of fun. And if you can find the any youngling who hasn't seen RAIDERS in a theater, drag them along. They'll thank you later.

I have had the bluray since day 1 that pre orders went up. But considering its projected letterboxed onto IMAX screens (and not even the true Large Format IMAX screens) I will wait for the Egyptian or the Aero Theatre to do another 70mm screening of the trilogy out here in L.A.

Plus it cant top last years L.A. Times Hero Complex screening with the Q&A with Speilberg and Ford
by Levi Tinker
last years Hero Complex screening was awesome, and the screen size of the theatre used, was just as big maybe even a bit bigger than the screen area actually projected on for a scope movie on a IMAX screen.
-
I really have nothing to complain about. The transfer IS stunning. No artifacts that I noticed. I took my thirteen year old granddaughter. And she really liked it. Her comments "I could see every drop of sweat and every fly on the face of all those folks in the desert." and " We should see a movie more often." Isn't that what its all about? We all love movies otherwise we wouldn't lurk about this site....and being able to share our love of film to the next generation, of a really good movie, thats just perfect in my mind.

Taking my sons tomorrow. To a TRUE IMAX theater, not one of those AMC screens :)
by AlienFanatic
Looking forward to it. I can still remember how excited I was as a kid both before and after I saw the movie. A film that will stand the test of time. Kinda makes you appreciate how good Lucas and Spielberg used to be, as a team, and how much has been lost over the years. I wish they could do one more that erased the disappointment of Indy 4.
-
Beautiful transfer. Sound was tight and it looked like it was filmed this year. For my first IMAX experience, it was everything you could hope for.

Karen Allen In A Sheer Nightgown With No Panties In IMAX?
by DickBallsworth
Do they sell tickets by the roll?
-
...and it truly looked like it was shot this year. Crystal clear, amazing sound, and not one fix or redo of ANY shot ANYWHERE. Have seen this movie a huge amount of times, being my favorite movie, and today I saw things I have never noticed before. Expressions on Indy's face, characters in the background, even the color of an extra's eyes! Truly worth every penny... A must-see.

@rendertwit: The is still the snake reflection removal. Had you seen RAIDERS projected on film before, or just DVD?
by justmyluck
-
I saw it on film when it was released in '81, many times on cable, then wore out my VHS of it, then on DVD. The reflections are still there, just harder to see because of the lushness of the rest of the image.
-
Not only are they there (but like I said, harder to see), but they look like they are on very clean glass. I think this is why they are harder to see. There was so much dirt on the original prints we all remember, that the reflections were more prominent. With digital projection, we aren't seeing a build-up over time of dirt, and this is the pristine version of the film. The most obvious of the reflections is when Marion and Indy are in the shot together and moving back as the snake hoods. That one I clearly saw (and yes, I was looking for it). If I hadn't known it was there, or hadn't been looking or it, it would be easy to miss. You are correct though, the Blu-ray will settle the matter.
-
There seems to be a hint of the snake's reflection in the bottom part, though it might just be another snake's body ghosting off the glass. But the cobra's reflection is not there. Other observations: you can see the eyes of the gold idol when they push in for a close up... also the arm holding the boulder that rolls after Indy has been semi-erased in that it's gone from the first part of the shot, but when the boulder is almost at the bottom of the ramp, the arm is still there. Other things like the pneumatic ram that tipped the truck over in the Cairo marketplace is still in the shot too. Only thing I'm not 100% on is if they used the CG background when Indy bumps the German staff car over the edge of the cliff or if it's still the matte painting. I'm leaning toward the painting though. All that aside, this film has never looked better (understatement) and it's absolutely positively a required purchase. :)
-
Waiting for it to start. My inner 4 year old is bursting! Althought this time I won't look away when the melting faces show up.
-
4 films starting at 10:30?

Okay, I've whipped out the RAIDERS Laserdic and have the Blu-ray and that running merrily together and duly report...
by justmyluck
Yes, the glaring reflection of the cobra in the glass has been erased, like I saw projected last November. The reflection is actually there for a few frames when Indy drops into the shot, then the left side of Indy's jacket turns into a morph job, if you analyze it. There was also a small triangular reflection (piece of tape on glass?) near Indy's right shoulder, which has also been erased. The other, more subtle, reflections are still there, untouched. In response to *dickballsworth*, the matte painting of the cliff has been restored back (i.e. it's the 1982 version). The prior CG dickings around on that shot were pretty minor, so I pre-recorded the TV with the laser playing for that shot and analyzed it with the Blu-ray frame by frame. The only difference is that you can see the texture of the original painting now due to the clarity, which may be why it was previously dicked with. I also didn't notice any changes with that last in last November's screening. As for the boulder arm touch-ups, I can't notice any differences there between the LD and the Blu-ray. Actually, I'm looking for a mechanical ANYTHING popping out somewhere and can't see any. Maybe it's something I missed all this years, so feel free to point it out!
