Cool News
HERCULES ON THE RADIO!!
Joss Whedon’s SHIELD, Scott Free’s COMA, THE NEWSROOOM Finale, Carlton Cuse’s PSYCHO Prequel, Gov. Schwarzenegger And More!! NEW TEMPORARY TIME SLOT: Listen And Call In LIVE 10pm PT / 1am ET!!
My big idea for a radio topic tonight is: How long will we have to wait before Arnold Schwarzenegger gets invited back to address the Republican National Convention?
Joss Whedon is writing and probably directing ABC/Marvel’s “SHIELD” pilot, so we’ll probably have something to say about the creator of “Buffy,” “Angel,” “Firefly” and “Dollhouse” and his hands-on return to TV.
I’ve also seen every minute of A&E's Scott Free Labor Day “Coma” miniseries, so that could come up.
Also? HBO’s “The Newsroom” completed its first season six days ago.
Plus? Look how fast my poodle moves in triple-digit Las Vegas heat!
We're also expected to give away some cool prizing tonight: A Bikini Shannon from "Lost" action figure and a "Return of the Jedi" lunchbox.
“Ask Mr. KERN” will have a different timeslot for the next six weeks.
The radio show airs Saturday 10:05 p.m. to Midnight Pacific Time.
No matter where you are you can listen to the show LIVE by hitting the “Listen Live” button at kernradio.com.
Best of all, you, constant reader, can join this very nerdy conversation.
The toll-free call-in line is:
1-800-640-5376
Call in drunk, as I always do, but watch your language. This is not a podcast. This monster goes out over the air on all 50,000 watts of Southern California’s KERN-AM.
Have something better to do tonight? Want to listen to older shows? Head over to the “Ask Mr. KERN” archives!

I left the e off Krewe in my last post. Oops. What do you think? Does it fly, just lay there, or crash and burn? Or are we just a bunch of savages? The Krewe of KERN? The Krewe of Herc? The Krewe of AICN? The Krewe of Uneditable Posts? The Krewe of TB Trolls? I don't know, just my two cents worth. :)

Herc - How long will we have to wait before Arnold Schwarzenegger gets invited back to address the Republican National Convention?
by L.H.Puttgrass
Hard to say. Anything is possible these days. Nothing surprises me anymore. But I imagine the whole 'cheating on his wife thing' will keep him on the outside looking in for quite some time. Family values are a bit important to the Republican Party. Having Arnold up there on the podium wouldn't look too good. He's better off making movies.
-
Sept. 1, 2012, 7:36 a.m. CST
l.h.puttgrass family values is only important to the GOP when talking about Democrats
by Chain
We all know of Gingrich,McCain,Sanford,Vitter,Foley and the rest. But most people don't realize that Clint Eastwood has 7 kids by 5 different women. NTTAWWT. but when the party looks down their nose at others their hypocrisy should be pointed out.
-
Glad you weathered the umm...weather.
-
Bewe. :b
-
... "animals" or "savages". In a GOOD way. I guess we can also touch on Clint's speech to the chair. For the love of God... I don't want this to break into a political discussion tonight. Or EVER.
-
The SAY ANYTHING cover is awful. But the INDIANA JONES cover... is that new? Or had I never noticed before how homoerotic that cover is... with his little smile and the whip and open shirt? And what's with his left hand? It's like the pose you'd see on a mannequin. Jesus, the more I look at it the weirder it gets...the smile is truely troublesome...
-

Guys, come on. I was just responding to Herc's big idea for a radio topic tonight question.
by L.H.Puttgrass
No matter what party he was in, I would think that they would want him to lay low for a while until the media loses interest. Which can take awhile depending on the situation. Arnold being a former governor of California and a big-time movie star makes his radioactive half-life from this about 3000 years. Hell, I bet the GOP wishes he'd get out of the limelight and retire. But he probably can't because he's going to have to settle up with Maria and his kids. I don't know how old the kids are or if he and Maria have settled or are going to court. I don't know what Maria is up to. The only Arnold stuff I've heard lately has been about the movies he has been making or the trailers for them. I don't actively look for news out of California concerning politics and such, especially since they re-elected Governor Moonbeam. I kind of grew up there in the very late '60s, most of the '70s and was stationed there from '88 to '90. So it is hard for me to believe that they put Brown back in Sacramento. California must have had some very slim pickings and been very desperate. Again, I was only answering Herc. I know that both parties have their collection of horn-dogs and/or pervs. Arnold is just the most recent to be dragged out of the closet.
-
Breathe, baby. It's all good. LOL I wasn't targeting you. I just don't want to get into politics. At all. There's enough of it on the radio for anyone to get their fill. What I DO want to talk about tonight... a lot... is the S.H.I.E.L.D. series. I'd love to hear the plot lines and stories and characters that everyone would like to see introduced through this show. It could be HUGE!
-
Sept. 1, 2012, 11:18 a.m. CST
welivestill...ornot - No problem. I just was clarifying I posted that response. Herc proposed a question about Arnold.
by L.H.Puttgrass
I have no problem with the question, but you're right. Screw politics. It always seems to touch off a flame war here in the talkbacks. It never matters how tame or civil the subject was in the beginning. BOOM! goes the dynamite!! And the war rages!
-
Good (Insert proper timezone response here.) to everybody! Have a good day.

whose name I could surely find if I wasn't too lazy to go to IMDB right now. Hell there was even a line spouted by Hackman "If you could put an end to most/all human disease forever just by sacrificing one living person, wouldn't you have to do that?" etc etc... It maybe co-started Sarah Jessica Parker... ?

Nah, we might get süed.
-
Be fair... I don't get into MY politics, but I do believe the show goes way over to left wing political views. WHICH I don't mind except that the show does get very preachy from time to time. If I really didn't like the show I'd stop watching. If you give OUR show some time, you'll find that most of the genres and movies I love will come under my fire. Not because I hate them, but because I'm a jackass and I want them them to be better. Make sense? In any case, mcgoo, I dig your passion and love the input. It's important to disagree, but have civil arguements about this stuff.
-
I've noticed it too. We have 12 hours till showtime... maybe it'll work itself out.
-
EXTREME MEASURES maybe? That's off the top of my head. I remember the movie. Experimenting on homeless people and such.

You live with Isaac the bartender from Love Boat? Awesome. Give him a thumbs up for me when he comes back. But not a wink. A wink would be effete.

welivestill...ornot - thanks for the nod- you do have a cool show-- was I being uncivil? -
by Michael Lunney
if you go to the Thursday or Friday TV talkbacks, you wll see many people praising me for being civil amidst a sea of unending petty political partisan sniping I lean left, but I do not care to make conservatives my talkback enemies, as so many others do The attacks on Sorkin's portrayal of women just seems so tunnel vision of the entire show. Sorry, no offense meant, just my opinion, just like yours being expressed peace, my radio friend...
-
I didn't mean to imply you were being uncivil. All is well.
-
I hope you're back, dude.
-
Now that Sorkin has helped to find a terrorist organization acting "in the open" in our society. I have begun tracking their every movement and then passing the intelligence I gather on to the appropriate authorities, ie. the Hollywood elite. See below. The most recent bit of intelligence I have gathered is shocking. I do need some help. Should I be passing this on to Sean Penn or Danny Glover? I can't remember who is the intelligence gatherer for the Hollywood elite.... http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2012/08/31/koch-brother-breaks-gop-supports-gay-marriage This guy is WAY extreme.

by L.H.Puttgrass
He was a teetotaler, a boring slowpoke windbag who only brought a lot of hot air and water. Lots and lots of water. I'm okay. Posted about it in last week's TB. Hope you are doing better.
-
I can't speak for the rest of the team, but my problems with the show haven't been with the women per se, but each of them have either a glaring character trait or have had an action that ruin the characters for me. Mac- the 'send to all' plot point would've been perfectly placed if this was Sports Night and she was Dana. It came off to me, on this show, as too easy a gag that really didn't have a payoff. What I'm surprised Sorkin DIDN'T do the entire season, which I would've found more believable, would have been for Mac and Will to have been fighting off-air and have her throw the affair in his face in front of everyone and, accidentally, right as they went to air. Maggie- no one... NO ONE... in her position would think that LOL meant 'lots of love'. That joke fell flat and made her seem incompetent. Again, not trying to be an armchair script doctor, but having Charlie (or even Sloan, for that matter) make a mistake like that would've made some kind of sense. Sloan- I had *no* problem with her the entire season (not even her 'off the record' faux pas) until her sticking around ACN was, instead of wanting to do a good job with the news, put her in the middle of the Don/Maggie/Jim disaster, which I feel has been the show's only truly big misstep.
-
Thank you. This week the Kock brothers. Next week, Scott Walker. Praise Sorkin!

Alright. I think I've got it now. So... Lost... Lost the TV show... had, um... action figures? Really? Really.
-
It makes me laugh, too, even though I'd have bought a few when they first came out of not for their ridiculous price point. One of the downsides with McFarlane toys is that they're prettying sculptures (that Shannon figure just... lays there). The good thing about them is how crazy detailed some of them get. The Eko and Sawyer figures are pretty damn cool. The best toy they released was a miniature playset of the blown up entrance for the hatch. It reminded me of the cool die-cast miniatures that were made for the original Star Wars trilogy.
-
I went digging into the prize vault and came up with this. I wasn't crazy for the show, but many of you are. Gonna give it away WITH the SW:ROTJ lunchbox thingy. Not sure what we'll do to give those away... guess you'll have to listen...

Far be it from me to disparage the lovely Maggie Grace, but the single worst bit of acting on Lost had to have been in the beginning of season two. She walks up to a group of people on the beach and mutters (a very kind word for it) 'have you seen Vincent?' It's probably better than I'm remembering it, but it's been stuck in my head for years. If it was one of the sounds included with the toys, I'd fight you all for it.
-
means I'll get to sleep earlier. Normally I stay up until 6AM to hear the end, but now it starts at 6AM I might as well go to sleep at a decent hour. Say 5AM. Yes, you guessed it, I live in the UK. I am also an insomniac.

they still have the same philosophy the movie goer will buy any piece of shit with a name slapped on it every ape sequel was given a smaller and smaller budget and as a result, the end product was shit but at the time, for scifi fans, it was the only game in town...so we ate it up dont care that rise of the apes was good (i dont think it was, as we will never see a true rendering of the original book) whatever comes next will be pure dreck

Man, if you have no guest, the show will be a win. I think you guys really found the groove this week. Seriously, major improvement. It's always been fun, but this week was special. And you end with the Cave!! Way to go out with a bang, guys and GAL. Steph!! Speak up, we love you.

Movie Mike just broke a table when he read your correction. Well done, sir!

Congrats on the win. I expect I'll be piping up more next week with Herc in the hot seat hosting.

They did ads for both, I hadn't seen the one he was referring to. So it looks like I may have to cover repair costs....
-
That poor table. Gone. Just like that.
-
I read your handle in my head as reals dias, for reals.

It was fun.

Thanks as always to everybody who listened, posted and phoned! You're the reason we do it LIVE!

in case anyone missed it. Delete if inappropriate.... http://www.indiegogo,com/saveandrew I've been through the ringer lately, but it's nothing compared to what this guy is going through. Thanks for letting me say it on the air. You have no idea. VERY appreciated. Thanks for everything, for the great show... for giving me the time I needed to remember the answer. SO fun!
-
hold it together, man. My thoughts will be with you.
-
If firefly had an opening theme more like Buffy it might not have been canceled so fast.

About an hour after the show and finally drifting toward dreamland, my little one had a nightmare. Get up, get her settled, but end up crashing next to her in a twin bed. Then like clockwork adeceasedfan Jr. is up at quarter til 7. Urmphh. I shake 'em off until 8, but they demand food. No more zzz's. Hangover city, but with no drinking. I should've archived, but I live for live. (Did you get that?) I love this show and you guys, so it was worth it. Next week will be different without the little ones around. Sleeping in baby!
