Dinesh D’Souza and Ron Christie are total fucking hacks.

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

I saw Dinesh get eviscerated by Hitchens on numerous occasions. He's an intellectual fraud. On the other hand, I think that there is actually something mentally wrong with Christie. In fact, he's my #1 suspect for the true identity of Chrrrrriiiiisssssmmmm (sp?).

    by PDepew2181

I tend to not watch the show except for the New Rules segment anymore since the rest of it just depresses me too much.

  • from the ridiculous speeches to the Reagan hologram that almost was to Clint Eastwood arguing with a chair, I'm surprised John's head didn't explode like the guy in Scanners.

the irish people went to the polls last years

    by emeraldboy

and demolished the founding party of the irish state. and put them into opposition and re elected the other founding parties Fine gael and Labour. In 2010 the ecb sent Leninhan and Cowen a strong letter which said if you dont support the bailout we will cut you off. Lenihan and cowen went along with this bullying. from the ECB. irelands economy and indeed Europes economy is now more or less run by the IMF/EU/ECB. all except the uk. Who made the brave decision to stay out of the Euro. Ireland must be the only country not to have a property tax. Our idiotic shower have no plan bar the fact that they plan to have a property tax in place by the middle of next year. the december budget is three months away. our finance minister has not yet choosen what form of property tax a site valuation tax or a tax based on the house amount. then there are water meters. prior to coming into irish politics the irish health minister is Dr James Reilly was a gp and a property developer. His house is quite stately. Anyhow he has been involved in a legal case which saw him being listed in a legal newspaper called stubbs gazette along with five other named defaulters. they jointly ran a nursing home in ireland. Dr james Reilly lambasted his predecessor in the run up to the election. unleashed 130 million euros worth of cuts to the health service mainly in the area of home care packages and home. oh and if your are a patient in ireland. they will send you home for the weekend. beds will be closed in irish hospitals. the govt said this was regrettable. Tainaiste Eamon gilmore said that he had not spoken to his cabinet Colleague. FG and labour dont get on. this is ireland 2012. disabled people are being thrown on the scrap heap. there are no jobs. there are if you know where to look, i suppose. the irish govt says train get a job or lose your benefits. like in the uk. one more thing. While I think its great to see paralympians getting recognised in sport. I am uneasy about the idea of Having two tiered disability funding for sport while other services are being cut. america is the self styled greatest country in the world its treatment of disabled people is dreadful.

  • He's not CEO of every company nor bank. Look at the job description. He can help the economy from getting worse but that's the extent of any president's power.

  • Aug. 31, 2012, 4:45 p.m. CST

    @mistergreen: the hell he doesn't.

    by tailhook

The primary function of government is to spend your money. His name is on every bill that gets passed and on the budgets he proposes. The more in taxes he levies on companies, the less money they have to pay you, the less money they have to hire more people and grow. The more regulations he proposes, puts his name to, and imposes... the more money companies have to put out to meet those regulations, the less money they have to pay you, the less money they have to hire more people and grow. This jingoistic horseshit of the president having no power is ludicrous. They only say that to justify the fact that Obama is not a competant leader. He's a born follower. You know what they call it when you lead from behind? Following. Every step of this administration, he's been led by the nose by forces that he does not have the ability to marshal and lead. He got rolled on the stimulus as it became an all-you-can-eat buffet for Democratic backers. He got rolled on Obamacare as rather than proposing a measure, he left it to Pelosi and Reid to 'figure out' what could feasibly pass, and then he got behind it. Leadership at the end of the day harkens back to Jack Shephard from Lost. 'You can't lead, if you don't know where you're going.'. Obama had no clue where he was going and at the end of the day we've had 4 years without a rudder to guide this country and have wasted a heck of a lot of money in the process. You may not have liked where we were going from 2001-2008, but it wasn't unambiguous what our motives and direction were. Not so today.

Obama can't control unemployment or gas prices

    by Mugato5150

But he can enact policies that could help those things. Policies that the republicans have obstructed at every turn in their self declared goal to make Obama a one term President no matter how badly it hurts the country. Even if it fucks up the country worse than Bush did. If that's possible.

  • i mean, its par for the course. if its friday, mahers lying or distorting facts or being racist or a misogynist or showing extreme amounts of bigotry about something. its sad...

  • thats ALL pelosi and the dems ranted about with Bush!!! ahhh, willful ignorance is bliss, i suppose.

  • Aug. 31, 2012, 5:06 p.m. CST

I think there was a lot more to rant about Bush than gas prices

    by Mugato5150

Like invading two countries under false pretenses to shredding the Constitution after 9/11, for allowing 9/11, for fucking up Katrina, to turning a surplus into a record deficit well I could go on but you get the idea. Or probably not.

    awesome saying anything bluray!!!

    by Matthew

I vote Democrat, I am pro union, pro minimum wage increase, pro universal health care, pro not turning sick kids down for preexisting conditions, pro environmental protection agency, pro clean water and air ect , I am against the whole conservative anti science pro theocracy anti evolution, anti woman, homophobic evangelical nonsense. The republican base is very fundamentally religious, people like Rick Santorum want America to be more like a Theocracy. The republican base is strange as they deal with poor people and the middle class like the atheist Ayn Rand which is very different from the teachings of Jesus Christ who was against the rich and for the poor and meek, but they use religion to subject women and gays, to take away their freedoms and rights. Jesus doesn't even mention gays or women's reproductive rights, let alone birth control. Jesus does say to feed the poor. Although Mitt Romney believes Jesus lives on the planet Kolob. You could argue some of my points but you can't argue the Republican base is a bunch of creationist that think sex is shameful.

Your comments are so hilarious! Dude, where do you come up with this stuff? It's comedy GOLD! I'm archiving your posts so I can revisit them and play them back to you (so you can deny them, like every other fact). Ha ha! There's a reason why someone like you have no influence in the Real World. Simply because, you don't matter. And your only purpose in your life is for the entertainment of others. Like myself! Go ahead! I can't wait for your next hateful rant. I would consider myself honored if you tore me a new one. Especially because I'm a registered Republican. I plan to post and print your comments to my local Republican party office as to the wonderful Republican response to Democratic rebuttals. Thank you, jay2517! Give me some more juice to share!

Prediction: 2 months into Romney's presidency...

by Immortal_Fish will be blaming everything on the man, retroactively. Every stance you took claiming that the President can do nothing to influence the economy will become instantly forgotten. Even when gas falls under $3 and unemployment falls to the sixes, it will not be enough for any of you. You bitch about Dubya being inactive for seven seconds. Then you give a pass to OwebamAA+ for being inactive for more than three years. Pathetic. Time to put the grownups back in charge.

  • +1 for Maher because of that. lol Jay, what's Mittens hiding in the tax returns he refuses to release?

  • Aug. 31, 2012, 6:45 p.m. CST

    Who controls gas prices....

    by DougMcKenzie

There are so many individual items that affect the price of gasoline on an international, national, and local level that one man sitting in an office does not determine it. Sudden unexpected shutdowns at refineries, planned turnaround maintenance, market speculation, spikes in demand, weather conditions (both day-to-day and seasonal), trade agreements, individual station's market fixing, to state and municipal taxes. To say Romney will have gasoline under $3 a gallon in to months of office is frankly complete and utter assinine. It's divorced from reality and homerism at it's worst. Oil was expected to hover around $115/bbl this year, but it's actually spent most of the below that and bottomed out in June around $90. The was completely off almost every prediction. Now it's weird that some people are saying it would be a really good thing to see gas under $3 a gallon, but that would only likely happen if we saw a severe market crash ala 2008. Why do people want that to happen? Oil, and thus gasoline and other fuels produced from it, are an investment property nowadays for many people, especially as interest rates remain suppressed. I know, next to house prices, it is one of the market forces people are most conspicuous of in their day-day lives. But there is essentially NOTHING a president of the U.S. can do to cause the price to be slashed in half overnight just because he wants to. A long term strategy and construction of infrastructure could have a slight effect on reducing prices... that could instantly be wiped out by speculators in 5 minutes. Countries do need comprehensive energy strategies. But these should be more about reliance, preservation of resources, market efficiencies to minimize spikes, and local job creation. Those are the types of things a President, Governor, Mayor can talk about in regards to oil and gasoline rather than price control.

  • and quit projecting in ur posts! its sad to read :(

  • Aug. 31, 2012, 6:53 p.m. CST

Also Pres Bush did cause the price to spike

    by DougMcKenzie

By starting a war, and disrupting the production capacity of one of the world's leading oil producing countries The fat that the price of oil spikes during the War and following upheaval in Iraq was inevitable and entirely see-able. I don't see Obama or Romney ever being in any position to do something that drastic thou.

  • and Romney's hiding nothing, he has released his returns. where have u been? Are carriage breaks in a message forum all that you can really offer society? Then rest assured you win. Okay, I'll bite. I would like to understand the data behind your retort how my "stupid" prediction is familiar. Gas was under 1.90 when Obeyme took office. It is twice that now. If you suggest we heard yap about fixing the price of gas 4 years ago, then I agree. Doesn't mean it predicted affordability in today's market.

  • Sept. 1, 2012, 4:04 a.m. CST

Right now, its Romney's Election to lose.

    by tailhook

If he stays on the message they presented at the RNC and doesn't get dragged down into mudslinging or he doesn't go hari kari on himself like McCain did by 'suspending' his campeign(that was the one thing he never recovered from, it wasn't the Palin choice. Allthough I have serious doubts he ever would have won.), Romney/Ryan is just going to decimate the Democrats and Obama in November. It isn't even going to be close. I really don't think the Democrats quite appreciate just how strong the winds are for actually fixing this mess they've only exacerbated. We need to go 9/11 on this shit. Replace 'war on terror' for 'war on spending'. And if Romney so much as twitches and tries to pull an Obama(promise to fix things and then paying off your backers and allowing the problem to persist at the cost of $5 trillion), you aren't going to have to worry about the Left.. the Right is going to fry him for dinner. Last but not least, I don't give a fuck who you are, what you orientation is, what your peccadillos may be... you can be anything you want in this world if you have the money to pay for it. The only way that happens is fiscal responsibility. If you don't? Someone else will decide for you how you are to live your life. I guarantee it. Freedom only exists for those who make enough money to support their chosen lifestyle. You can make $15k a year and be fairly happy or you can make $150k a year and be absolutely miserable. It all comes down to how well you spend what you've earned.

According to this article at Forbes, 21 trillion has been stashed in off shore accounts. That's 21 trillion that if properly taxed and channeled would greatly assist everyone across the world. So I'm pretty sure Romney has not revealed more Tax returns because to do so would illuminate the pattern of tax sheltering in the cayman islands and other places. He's only released a few years. His father released 10 and so far as I know most presidents have permitted people to stare at the finances full bore. Here's the article link:

  • Its wouldn't beifit anyone except r politicians and worthless projects that only make things worse.

  • It wouldn't benifit anyone except for politicians and worthless projects that only make things worse.

  • BTW: He's released 1 year's tax returns. Singular = 2010 (but has magnanimously promised 2011 "at some point"). No. Nothing out of spec there - perfectly above-board. Oh, and decrying the "No he didn't" tactic of debate in the same breath as using it yourself = Priceless asshattery. You should be proud - Bravissimo...

    by tailhook

as you don't have to be born in ths country to be eligible to run or serve as President of the United States. The main requirement is that one or both of your parents be full citizens(i.e. naturally born a citizen, their citizenship was passed on to you). The only time the location of your birth comes into play is if you are the child of foreign nationals(plural). At that point, to be a citizen you must have been born on US soil.. something that was added to the constitution with the 14th amendment. Just think about it this way.. your parents are American and they were vacationing in Italy. Your mom goes into labor early and you get born in an Italian hospital. Are you an American Citizen? Yup. Do you suddenly get disqualified for running for president at 35+? Nope. If, upon your birth, you are considered an American Citizen.. you are entitled to all rights therein.

  • Sept. 2, 2012, 1:35 p.m. CST

    Hey Jay...

by Red Ned Lynch the middle of the convention Romney held a fund raiser on a yacht that was flying under the flag of the Cayman Islands! It's name is The Cracker Bay. Romney went there to party with 50 uber-rich contributers in the middle of the convention! Plus, of course, Romney's admitted to his Cayman Islands financial shenanigans. He just claims they were never - ever - done to avoid paying taxes. But he's supplied no proof of that of course. So we don't have any FACTS to base that belief on. And just the knowledge that the Cayman Islands are famous for being used for just that purpose as a reason to...hmmm...perhaps doubt the veracity of a candidate who has surrounded and riddled with contradictory positions every issue America faces. And Romey has released a partial return for one year, 2010. His old man released full returns. In fact, John McCain in 2008 is the first candidate ever to run for President who released less than five years of consecutive tax returns. That's another of those pesky facts. Once again, not my fact. Just a fact. So far Romney has released one year and promised another one at some point. So that's where people get that notion about Romney's tax returns. You know that one place...the place you try your best to never visit...what's it called? Oh yeah. Reality.

  • Sept. 2, 2012, 1:47 p.m. CST

    by Red Ned Lynch

It would seem from Romney's more recent statements that he intends only to release an estimate of that second year. So one 'estimate' and Jay, what was that you were claiming again? Oh, and sorry, not it's. Its. Yuck. Once again, McCain in 2008 was the first and only candidate from a major political party to release fewer than five years. So whether there is something even more shameful in them than Willard manipulating the system to accumulate enormous IRAs and pay only 13% in taxes or not...he certainly hasn't released them. But hey, at least he showed his true patriotism, picking a yacht flying the Cayman Islands flag to party on during the convention. Because Willard the international elitist has no patriotism for what he called the United States company. His patriotism is reserved for his international brotherhood of financiers. And what better flag to represent them than the Cayman Islands?

Bottom line if you have any interest in intellectual freedom you're going to have to stand up to them eventually.

  • Also - it's been scientifically proven that the more facts you throw at them, the more they dig in and seek "less pure" venues for communal reinforcement.

  • They are intellectually incapable of anything past STAGE ONE thinking. ...I just presented you with facts. And you responded with none. Just a shouted proclamation that Willard 'pays his fair share'. And then you hysterically claimed that I said it was a fundraiser. But my posts are right up there, 11 posts above yours and I made no such claim. Willard was partying with his big money donors on a yacht flying the flag of the Cayman Islands. In the middle of a convention in which a major political party nominated him as their candidate for President of the United States. This wasn't an official soiree aboard a vessel flying a foreign flag. This was a private party of international elitists who see themselves as men of the world, untethered to such quaint notions as nations or national pride. Guess that must have touched a nerve, huh? Now I noticed what you didn't do is continue to spout the lie that Willard has already released his tax returns in the traditional manner for political candidates. But then you couldn't do that, could you? The facts...they burn. Oh gosh, wait. You're a conservative, which means you think you get to rewrite other people's words and then argue against the words you made up. Also ignore your own mistaken and dishonest positions once they become untenable and take up new ones as though the old ones never existed. Sorry, Jay. I forgot what you were there for a second. This has nothing to do with my personal feelings. It is traditional for candidates to be open with the American people. Your candidate refuses to do so. Both Georges did it. Reagan. Clinton. Fact, Jay. Over three decades of candidates from both parties, every single one of them, released no fewer than five years. Willard's daddy released a dozen. Willard won't. You said he had, over and over again. Just facts, Jay.

When it comes to Willard's tax returns...

by Mr. Nice Gaius's clear that he has chosen the lesser of two politically damaging evils. In other words, his refusal to release more records (specifically the ones for the years that EVERYONE wants to see) is based on a decision to save his business record from further scrutiny. It's a hit he's willing to take because of the hotter heat he'd face down the road. Unlike his father, he leaves a lot to be desired in the financial transparency department...which is why even conservatives think he's hiding something. Isn't it interesting that when Willard was screening the VP slot, he asked T-Paw for several years worth of tax returns. Not quite the same for Ryan who, as we now know, released only a couple of years worth as well.

It used to be considered patriotic to pay one's taxes

    by evergreen

This led to men walking on the moon, and so on. Now, for some reason, angry white people think most of their tax dollars go to shiftless, homicidal minorities. In actual fact, the majority of our tax budget is devoted to a bloated military whose only realistic mission is to defend against a possible alien invasion. A typical Republican from 1969 would raise an eyebrow and show you budget projections on his slide rule. A typical Republican from 2012 will quickly change the subject to primordial fear of icky lady-parts and darkies.

  • So, to amend your FACT: He has released his RETURN (singular), not RETURNS. 1 YEAR.
