Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here on a tiny break from safari to bring you an exclusive poster from the film DUST UP, the Ward Roberts directed "grindhouse western mixed with a horror comedy" film that hits On Demand on October 2nd. The film stars Amber Benson, Jeremiah Birkett, Ezra Buzzington, and Travis Betz.
I don't know about you, but horror-comedy-grindhouse-western seems to cover quite a bit of what I'm into, so this could easily be an incredibly entertaining flick, or end up horribly bad. Given Roberts's last movie, LITTLE BIG TOP, I'm willing to bet it should be a pretty fun 90 minutes of campy goodness. Come October 2nd I'll be able to check it out, but how about you ladies and gents?

they started making actual films based on the fake trailers. Then they just started beating it to death. But that's what Hollywood does, which is why we have a good 20 years or more of The Avengers and their solo films.

I unfortunately have to agree with the Boilers this time. Grindhouse isn't easy to replicate honestly, and making it intentionally comedic can become a lazy excuse to mask all shortcomings.

This is true with a lot of low budget/no budget horror as well. There's nothing wrong with horror comedy/action comedy in itself, but it's a much harder blend to pull off than most amatuer filmmakers understand. Only some of the best (Dante, Raimi, Landis, etc.) have actually succeeded, but they did it so well that they made it look easy. They made it look fun. Their successes launched a thousand well intentioned imitators. Most of them are almost unwatchable. Not funny, scary or exciting. It takes real balls to try to make something that recalls the grindhouse era of filmmaking with a straight face, because if you fail it's going to be epic. You risk the label of the modern Ed Wood. You might never work in this town again. If you make it a "comedy," you take all the risk away because you're now bullet proof. Ah, you were never serious anyway. And that can be boring as Hell.

I think the term GRINDHOUSE just gets thrown around a lot referring to crappy indie movies, but I saw it at a screening in LA, and it killed.

Reminds me of flicks The Van or Malibu Beach. One can only hope that this movie also has actor, extraordinaire Stephen Oliver reprising the role of Dugan!!!

Amber Benson is gorgeous and talented, and if you don't know who she is, or don't think she's "hot", then it's your loss.
