Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
The Alamo Drafthouse has started their own 70mm series and they kicked off “AlamoScope” with West Side Story, a title I’ve never seen in 70mm, so of course I went and enjoyed myself and fell in love with Natalie Wood all over again, as one does when watching this film.
Since I’m unoriginal and can’t think of anything that’s not on the forefront of my mind, I decided to dig up a West Side Story picture for this column. I went through the files and found a pic of the Jets uh… stretching?... on the streets of New York.

In a short time, director Robert Wise directed movies like "West Side Story", The Sound Of Music" and "The Sand Peebles".

Eclectic barely describes Wise's career. But he was always good at what he did. And he edited "Citizen Kane", so there's that. I quite admire the man.

I think.. the only thing i have ever seen even remotely as homosexual as this picture AND movie, was when Freddy PrinZe Jr. actually played Freddy in the scooby doo movie.

My Eighth-grade English teacher grew up in that neighborhood and they got kicked out of their own playground for the entire time the movie was shooting. (I think he's still pissed about it today.)

Wow, that picture is so funny of the West Side crew. Because if you have ever seen the PORN movie that Sylvester is in. They do that little sunshine stretch from above naked, then all roll over and have a big orgy. No joke, look it up. You will see the patented chin and bottom lip rip curl that Sly is known for the whole time. LMFAO

This was a fucking spellbinding film full of great music, great choreography and brilliant acting. If ye can't appreciate that then go stick on your DVDs with a load of sweaty muscley blokes spraying their big hefty guns all over some other muscley sweaty blokes chest. If dancing about with a load of other blokes with quiffs in the bronx in 1962 is gay then gay me up cos I'm coming out. No shame in loving West Side Story

You're a bit confused, Maria was sung by the (Richard Beymer) Tony character, and was actually dubbed by Jimmy Bryant. Tonight was also sung by the Tony character, Marni dubbed Rita in the Tonight medley later on in the movie, while at the same time dubbing Natalie in the song. A very versatile singer. And no, I'm not gay.

The music is without compare. The dance sublime, but NY was too sanitized and considering the themes, made the film not work for me.

It was a fine film adaptation of a great play! There is nothing "gay" about it. Yes, it is weird to see guys prancing around like pansies, but that isn't necessarily "gay." Besides, I think that the "gay pansy" act is overdone by many gay men. How do they suddenly turn extraordinarily effeminate the moment that they come out of the rainbow closet? I think that it is an act by many of these people. Gay is based upon their sexual urges, not the ability to sound more and more like a weak woman.

I love THE SOUND OF MUSIC. If Turner had MY FAIR LADY on right now I'd watch it. I think MARY POPPINS may be one of the most perfect movies ever made. One of my favorite memories from childhood is watching SINGING IN THE RAIN for the first time with my mom. And you know what? WEST SIDE STORY is just too Glee for me. I've never been able to sit through it. It's just so ridiculous.

I got my laserdisc collection out for one last hurrah to show my wife about what used to be awesome tech. I pulled out the West Side Story Criterion Laserdisc and put it in my old player and... fucking laser rot. goddamn fucking laser rotted to hell. sigh.
