Promotional Art For DOCTOR WHO S7 E02, E03, E04, E05!!

Here's the fourth of five Pond Life mini-episodes ramping up to Saturday's debut of DOCTOR WHO Season/Series 7 in UK North America.  Via BBC...

We've already seen some spectacular promotional art from  Asylum of the Daleks, the first episode in DOCTOR WHO Season/Series 7, premiering this Saturday on UK and North America.

BBC has now issued art from four subsequent installments in this Season/Series run.  In keeping with WHO-overlord Steven Moffat's assertion that this new batch of episodes will be more self-contained and cinematic in nature (I'm paraphrasing), this art is very clearly designed to evoke theatrical one sheets.

Hooray! Then one at Christmas! Then eight more sometime next year! This new trend of splitting television seasons into fractions is irritating in the extreme. A 13 episode season is on the small side already, but now we have to cut it up, as well? Pretty lame.

Seriously, I get it's just a TV show, but c'mon can get better talent from any A-level art program...

  • Turned into Angels somehow. Perhaps left that way as a device in order to keep the other angels calm and non violent. Together forever in a way, but lost to The Doctor for all time. Maybe I'm way off base, but that's what the poster is screaming at me anyhow.

Looks cool, They shot the western episode in Spain, which is not the UK or America FYI. Too bad they can't just shoot inside a sound stage only like the pre 2005 series. I like the Rory is the master theory but I doubt it now. What is Rory anyway? He was human but then a robot with the fingers flip down gun hand like on the old series bad guy, a Roman Centurion for 2K years but I think he went back to human somehow I forget. If you conceive in the tardis you have a timelord baby like River? Or Rory is a time lord, but he has a dad this season, or is his dad the Master? Creationist think dinosaurs and man existed at the same time FYI

@horn - not just Amy and Rory. Look in the Doc's eye.

    by veteran_of_mu

There's something in there. And it ain't the little worm from Prometheus. Also worth noting the background to TPOT is full of tiny images of 11 and Ponds. That is all.

    in the poster for TPOT

    by emeraldboy

rory is wearing his nurse's uniform.... one of the MOff's unanswered questions from series 5 was who was prisoner zero. in the poster for tpot you can make out a spaceship.

    I really want

    by maelstrom_ZERO

...a poster of the pic for Asylum that the BBC released recently, where you can see the reflection of the Doctor and the Ponds in a semi-shattered eyestalk of a Dalek. Am I the only one who would pay an exorbitant amount of money for that? Because that pic is brilliant. I mean, come on BBC. At least release that pic at a super high resolution so I can plaster it on my desktop. Also, the movie poster for Asylum is oddly absent from this series of pics, which is a bit depressing.

I've also thought.. what if TPOT

    by HornOrSilk

Connects to the Angels, too.. counting down and all. Or is it borrowing from Diana Wynne Jones?

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 8:43 a.m. CST

    by ByTor

Say what? The Asylum poster is the first one!

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 9:09 a.m. CST

I'm not sure about TPOT being an angel countdown, hornorsilk

    by DoctorTom

The original title put out for the episode was Cubed. That didn't really sound like a link to the Angels. If anything, the black cubes look like the opposite of the Time Lord message cubes. Anti-Time Lords? And while the poster for The Angels Take Manahattan suggests that Rory and Amy might be turned into Weeping Angels, the title suggests that they might be turned into Muppets. Okay, don't really see that happening, but the poster might be more symbolic of them being affected by the Angels. It could still be one or both of them being sent back in time by the Angels, with the Doctor finding out he can't rescue them when he meets old versions of them in the present right after they were sent back.

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 9:13 a.m. CST

Was pleasantly surprised by this episode

    by DoctorTom

It looks like the Ood wasn't a last-minute draft from the bench when they couldn't get a Yeti costume after all. Still, I would have liked to have seen the crew realize the old "Yeti in a Loo" Pertwee comment. I suspect that tomorrow we'll have the Ood spitting out some prophecy for what will happen to the Ponds. I'm also wondering if they'll use the Ood's presence as a trigger for things to make Amy and Rory have an argument that leads into Asylum of the Daleks.

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 9:32 a.m. CST

    by HornOrSilk

True, TPOT is just a "reading into it" kind of thing. However, it looks like there is a 1 on the Doctor's eye in the Angels poster (I can't zoom close to know). Nonetheless, from the wiki entry of TPOT... seems like it is a "Love and Monsters" kind of story... with an alien invasion and UNIT. Now I still won't be surprised if the angels are somehow involved.

  • But perhaps it will still set them free somehow.

  • I don't believe it - but here's fodder for the mill:

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 10:10 a.m. CST

    by HornOrSilk

More likely a live celebration of some sort. Not an episode. IMO.

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 10:12 a.m. CST

Another thought on The Angels Take Manhattan

    by DoctorTom

There's been speculation that the Ponds get thrown back in time by the Angels and get old. I've guessed that they might try using this to tie in with the 1990 on Rory's ID badge in The Eleventh Hour. It occurs to me, though, what if with their being thrown back in time they actually end up raising Melanie/Mels? We don't know who Mels was staying with in Leadworth. Finding out the Ponds actually did get to raise their daughter would be a nice twist on things.

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 10:19 a.m. CST

doctortom -- I don't think that will be the case with the angels

    by HornOrSilk

I still think it is possible neither will have anything happen to them and they just tell the Doctor off.

    Ponds Waving on a Hill

    by SminkyPinky

Season 5. I can't remember which episode right now. The Dr and the Ponds looked over and saw different versions of the Ponds waving at them, apparently happy. Now, I might have forgotten or missed a meaning in the episode in particular, but if I've not, has this ever been addressed and could it be relevant to their impending departure?

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 10:35 a.m. CST

sminkypinky - Ponds on a hill

    by DoctorTom

That was the 2 parter with the Silurians. I don't see that being relevant to what's going on now. It was relevant to that story as, in the story itself it was said they were not at a fixed point in time, so that even though we initially saw Amy and Rory, after Rory's death we only saw Amy on the hill on the other side. After the events of The Big Bang, we don't know if the two of them are still alive, together and happy in 2020.

Guess it will be like the concerts. A live celebration embedding an episode of DW. Maybe not the usual 45 minute thing, but maybe half an hour of an actual episode or so?

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 10:43 a.m. CST

And I'd bet there will be more than Doctor present...

    by wtriker1701

    That would be awesome... if...

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 10:48 a.m. CST

    by DoctorTom

I'm not sure if it's going to be a celebration with just a little bit of live episode. They might be daring and try the equivalent of the 2005 Quatermass Experiment shot live. Now, it might just turn into a bunch of the different Doctors running into each other and playing off of that, but that wouldn't be bad either.

  • Aug. 30, 2012, 10:53 a.m. CST

See if the did a live story, Power of the Daleks should be it

I've said it many times. If you must do that, do one of the lost stories. Power is the best.

The artwork for Dinosaurs on a Spaceship is embarrasingly bad.

    by sasquatch_with_a_swatch_watch

It's like they were going "well, its just gonna end up on SyFy anyway, lets give them DINOSAURS VS. SPACESHIPS.... VERSUS ROBOTIC HEDGEHOG"

  • If I may suggest, Doctor, but this "fez" seems to offer inadequate head protection in combat. Much like this "bowler" you insist I wear. This headwear makes little combat sense. I cannot claim the honor of battling with a bare head with this perched on top, yet it offers no protective capabilities, except perhaps against a stray rain shower. No, Doctor, I'm sorry but Sontarans do not pick their headwear because it "looks cool"

That Asylum of the Daleks poster wasn't there this morning, I swear it. I even checked the BBC's website too. But it's a beauty, so thanks BBC! I'm actually incredibly hyped for Asylum and A Town Called Mercy. Daleks are always great, and a Western-styled Doctor Who episode? Count me in thricely. No man can stop a Stetson-equipped Doctor. So excited.

dr who season 5 and 6

    by emeraldboy

were like a big jigsaw puzzle. slowly but surely moffat has been putting all the pieces together. There were things that showed up in the trailers last year that for expense reasons moffat couldnt use. like for example there were scenes with Egypt and cleopatra and pteryodactyls. the first five episodes of season 7 pull all the of Moffats story strands together. one question was who was prisoner zero? another who were the people who sanctioned the cloning? that ended up cloning the dr, amy and her baby and why? who was madam Kavorian? who was she working for? and why did she send river song into the future to kill the dr? who are those robotic machines who say were very cross with you? whats the deal with the angles in Manhattan? the dr it seemed went on some kind of time trip. but for what purpose? and he seemed to leave amy and rory behind. what was that about. is the dr on the run again? is he prsioner zero. all roads seem to indicate that season 5, 6, 7 are all connected in some way.

  • Aug. 31, 2012, 7:41 a.m. CST

    @hornorsilk - Exactly.

    by V'Shael

The trouble and strife just appear in the background with no context or explanation. If they had shown trouble occurring in the first of the Pond Life episodes, instead of going for 4 months of toilet humor and newly wed weirdness, then maybe this wouldn't have felt so shoe-horned in at the end.

To those who reassured me, thank you. It wouldn't have kept me from watching, but this will make it all the more pleasant. Pity the whole 'meeting out of sequence' thing would make it rather difficult to have her as the official companion for a season or two, though.
