....maybe when you guys post the poptards podcast here on AICN you could include a topic for discussion in the article for the talk back? some general comic book type topic related to the podcast but can be expanded upon in the talkback.
might be a way to shut the people up who show up and bitch about not wanting to listen to the podcast itself? not that i think you need to appease those people because...yeah.... they are morons. but i do think it could go a long way to make for some better conversations in the podcast talkback.
it's just an idea i'm throwing out there.

@Sonnyhooper : Today's topic references our rantings about Liefeld's tweeting this week. GO!

I watched that video on Poptardsgo.com and was literally dumb stuck. I couldn't even put into words the combination of thoughts I had at that moment. LOL it was like what the hell, nutcase, man-child, why are you!? All hitting my brain at once. Than reading Douche's article it's mind bottling(Blades of Glory) as to how this guy gets work. But that was a hilarious article Douche.

Also never saw the clip of him driving while inking. That does explain a lot.

Now it just looks like testicles hanging from someone's mouth while they're sticking out their tongue. Yeah, I failed a Rorschach test. What's that got to do with anything?!
-
....what the fuck is going on over at DC comics if the situation is sooooooo fucked up that a guy like Liefield is throwing up his hands and basically saying........ fuck it. im outta here.
i mean how messed up is the editorial situation over at DC when a guy who inks comic panels while DRIVING a car gets so fed up he decided to walk away from a steady paycheck in a down economy? DC is basically scraping the bottom of the comic creator barrel by just hiring Rob Liefield, so what does it say about the company when even the lowest common denominator is walking out of your door?
thats somewhat mind boggling in my book.

Where are the written reviews? This is bullshit! I clicked on the link and it took me to a record of a bunch of dumbshits talking. GAY!

It's my understanding that he makes the majority of his cash from licensing his creations out to anyone who will option them and then waiting for the rights to expire and then licensing them out to someone else. He's still living off of the rep he earned at Image. Plus, remember, the guy made a ton of money during the image years so he's probably got that. I seriously doubt he gives crap about any comic stuff he works on in the slightest. Comics owned by DC and Marvel, unfortunately, is not where the big money is in the long run. He's coasting on his old rep and will probably be able to do so for a loooonnnggg time.
-
Make fun, but don't address the question of "where are the written reviews?"

I bet there is a program that will type out the podcast as it plays so that you can read it...does that count as written??

You must do it for me. I expect it tomorrow

To address random voice that wasn't JD who asked why the superheroes don't just cross the ocean and take care of the criminals who were over there, I say: You're ignoring the amount of time involved in the story. They went to spain. They got ready. They pulled their job and left. There was only about 20-ish minutes of ruckus. How would the superheroes in America here about a former supervillain's house being demolished AND travel to Europe AND stop them in that amount of time. It's not like they were CONTINUING to pull crimes. Come on, dude.
-
YouTube does that. You should look at the transcripts of our USM interviews. Hilarious.

You call it "knocking out of the park", I call it: "Silver Age Retread"... again

seriously? Liefield if THAT well off? ummm.... but how? why?
by sonnyhooper
...i mean, how much can the licensing rights for Youngbloods and the rest of the crap he created be worth? thats like saying the 90s band the Spin Doctors don't need to make money anymore because they still have all of the money from Pocket full of kryptonite.
does he still get money off of deadpool or something?
-
Aug. 28, 2012, 1:57 p.m. CST
Yeah I dunno...those guys made a TON of cash in the 90s while murdering the comic industry
by Poptard_JD
-
I don't think he owns any of him, I mean, wasn't the whole Creator's Rights thing the driving force behind Image?
-
Aug. 28, 2012, 3:10 p.m. CST
I can't imagine him being that well off. I mean he's no Todd McFarlane
by Wcwlkr
That created an entire toy company from Spawn, as well as a mediorce live action movie. An not bad animated HBO animated series. So how much money can Liefield still have off of that stuff. Than again maybe he did a great job saving it in a lucrative Money Market account with low risk and decent interest pay out.
-
....the question still remains....WTF is going on at DC? the whole deal makes it sound like no one really has any idea of what direction to go in and all they have is a throw-every-piece-of-shit-idea-against-the-wall-to-see-what-sticks plan instead.
thats kind of a shame actually.
-
...were purchased for large sums of money back in the day. LARGE sums. I imagine he used up a chunk of that change buying them back at greatly reduced prices years later. But I'm sure he'll never be anywhere near what most people would think of as "poor".
-
That's a little surprising, she has been around forever it seems. She came out when Lady Death was big news. Heck, I'm stunned they are still publishing her. Her creator Budd Root is way more talented than Rod Durham, so I'm not surprised the book is weak.
-
He's probably right about the screw-ups at DC. George Perez left for the same reasons, and the comics themselves pretty much prove there is no coherent plan to the whole universe. And yes, I believe he was hired to kill those books. Who knows why. I'm just curious if DC will try to reboot Hawkman, or just live with the mess.

I don't read any regular superhero books anymore, only old trades and specials etc. Am I to understand that the "New 52" version of JLA is basically The Avengers?

I listened to this week's podcast. You gave love to Alan Davis. I'd love to see/hear a retrospective on JLA: THE NAIL which is just about my favourite JLA thing ever.

1) The irony of the Image movement was that they were the last guys who had anything to complain about, as they made millions during their time at Marvel, since their deals did include royalties/incentives, which Jim Shooter had been the first to institute. It got to the point where Jim Lee was demanding a personal jet to fly his girlfriend back and forth between the coasts. Seriously. 2) Even though those royalties/incentives are nowhere near what they used to be (as comic sales are tiny compared to the early '90s), as someone else mentioned, Liefeld can still make plenty of money by optioning, and reoptioning his characters for use in other media. Remember, we're still in the midst of the superhero movie boom, and any property that has even a HINT of a following is quickly snapped up by some studio or other, even if they never actually get around to making a movie out of it. So yeah, Liefeld is living comfortably.

Say what you want about Liefeld, at least he managed to make some deal with Marvel to hand restitutions to the Kirby Estate for FUCKing the King over royaly
by Stalkeye
Pun intended. Even Alan Moore couldn't influence marvel to be so "generous'. rob is a lousy artist but I still give him props for how he helped Kirby's surviving family members and of course Deadpool.

^ That is a good point. he did do that and you have to give him props for it.
