New Trailer For Joe Dante's THE HOLE Brings With It A Release Date!!
The Kidd here...
Joe Dante's THE HOLE has been sitting on the shelf for far too long, having been finished three years ago. It was back in 2009 that the film first premiered as well, and yet here we are in 2012 with nothing to show for that. Today that changes with Big Air Studios announcing a September 28 release date for the 3-D flick, and sending along a new trailer for THE HOLE to go with it.
With Dante's name on it, I'm in no matter what, and this definitely has an 80s adventure feel to it, so here's hoping that positive advance word holds up. The trailer at least looks fun (via Yahoo!):

It's only OK, nothing special. It's very much like The Gate, except a lot more sanitized. Acting was OK, the youngest kid was only mildly annoying. Consider it for a rental, but only if there's nothing else decent on the shelf/in your queue.
-
That's too bad.
-
Thought it was pretty good too.

That guy is a Christopher Lloyd ripoff from Back to the Future
by Rupee88
Doc Brown or whatever his name is. Anyway, this movie is made for kids and not me so have no idea if it's any good.
-
I expected more from the guy who brought us Gremlins. Guess 'the Beard' had his hands in that one more than we thought.
-
News, by definition has to be new. This news was on comingsoon 4 fucking days ago. Jesus, why do I even come here any more? All I get is old as fuck news and lame competitions. This site is a pale, pale imitation of it's former self.

@beangrud Great casting. She wouldn't even need prosthetics to scare the crap out of people.

Three kids. A hole to hell. Some little creepy pre-CGI stop motion creature.
-
From nazi neighbors from hell to doorway to hell in your basement. Well at least Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher aren't your neighbors anymore.
-
It's on DVD now in the UK. It's decent, relatively scary for a film aimed at under 16's.

We've been without Dante's unique "Monster Kid" cinematic voice for too long!
by The Reluctant Austinite
"Looney Tunes Back in Action" was really the last theatrical release we've seen from Joe Dante here in the States, which tuned out to be one of his more disappointing films. I really miss the vibe he used to bring to the cinema. From "Piranha" and "The Howling" to "Gremlins" and "Innerspace." Dante had a real feel for youthful adventure, as witnessed in "Matinee" and (the first half of) "Explorers." I really, really loved his TV series, "Eerie, Indiana," which I own on DVD and have watched numerous times. It's unfortunate that this has set on the shelf for three years, as it was obviously made to take advantage of the 3-D boom that has now nearly passed. Hopefully it will be given a release worthy of the wait. It's being released by a distributor I'm not familiar with so I hope our city even gets it.
-
... watched and sold this on Blu a good 18 months ago. I hate to be a naysayer but in my opinion it really wasn't very good.
-
That's fucking Bruce Dern. Show some respect. You should probably turn in your movie geek card, too, while you're at it.

Was hoping this was based on the old "Mel's Hole" story from Coast to Coast with Art Bell.

The Crossroads are real people. Go down there right now...Mississippi...well past the towns and the sounds and the fading metal screech of modern life... Into the back fields and wheat rows....where the roads have longer memories than those who walk them and keep their grassy paths clear... She was probably looking for a circle k so she could get more gum or bartles & james wine coolers and saw something shiny off in the distance....so she continued to walk... ...until the sun started to set and the concrete faded to dirt and grass..sounds of highway replaced by bird and wind...and, off in the distance, a set of peculiar roads crossed at a peculiar tree with a sense of timelessness or something unformed in the mind...something off... And there, upon those crossroads, a wind stirred and poor Courtney Love watched as Legba himself rose from the shadows...she was terrified at first but by the time he got near enough to see his face, she he was a kindly older gentlemen...she forget she was afraid only moments prior...he wore a hat and carried a cane and he spoke kind words to her in a happy, comforting voice...like an old church pastor or hometown mayor..."Well! Good day to you, young lady! My name is Legba! And, pray tell, sweet child, what is your name?" ... And thanks to that indiscriminate red jump suited asshat, we're stuck with Courtney Love forever. *sigh*

FUCK POLITICS, FUCK THE ELECTORIAL PROCESS, FUCK MITT ROMNEY, REPUBS, DEMOS. ETC
by Norman Colson
obama has done bad but when your cleaning up GWB's bullshit after all this time, you dont have a surplus you have a defeceit. still fucked up. I know romney will not get any black voters, hispanics, most not even asians. This vote will fall upon white middle class americans. My message to all these people are wake the fuck up, you think mitt romney cares about you? he doesnt care. All he wants to do is get rich and rob the white house. This man cannot be even truthful about his own taxes, lying at every turn... He doesnt care about americans and the workforce and the unemployment. The same people who voted for obama, made the choice for the best possible choice at the time. yes. but mitt romney is not a good presidential canidate. he doesnt speak from the heart and is not concerned with the plight of middle class white americans. He doesnt give a shit about your farm, land, college education, your hopes and dreams nor your future. He will say anything to get your money and your vote. and most likely you'll fall for it, because he looks like you. or you relate to him, (lol) this guy is a billionaire or damn near it, keeps his money in offshore accounts evading the irs like it's a damn joke. This guy said he wants to give senior citizens coupons for healthcare! What THE FUCK? WHY WOULD I WANT OR NEED A COUPON FOR MEDICARE? what kind of bullshit is that. Oh and let's not forget Legitimate "rape" nothing says legit about raping a woman. "Rape" is cool, im sure her body will expel the bastard child forming in her stomach. Give it time to sink in "LEGITIMATE RAPE" American republicans. I bet once you vote for him you'll wish you didnt.

I'm so cool I saw this a whole 5 years before it was even filmed.

When a celebrated Director remakes his own 'classic' movie, you'd hope/think it would be superior?
by foles
Sadly, it AIN'T!....and for the record...I LOVE Joe Dante.
-
I'd recommend this as part of a double feature with Under The Bed (if and when that gets released into the big wide world)
-
in a Joe Dante movie? How can I not at least give it a play?

Wow, I saw this online more than two years ago and thought it was very good...
by Clio
I just assumed it was released back then. It really is a lot of fun, and far better than some of the crap horror films we too often see. It has a light-hearted touch, with some really creepy scenes. Good stuff!
-
Keira Knightley doesn't have enough tit to whip....she might wish she did. But damn, she's the hottest gal around with the body of a ten-year-old boy.

Sad to see a Dante film without Jerry Goldsmith's name in the credits
by Nasty In The Pasty
Goldsmith was as important to the overall feel and tone of Dante's work as Bernard Herrmann was to Alfred Hitchcock, and John Williams is to Steven Spielberg. In some cases, Goldsmith "got" what Dante was shooting for better than Dante did...Explorers is kind of a mess, but Goldsmith's achingly wistful score captures the hopes and dreams of adolescence better than the film does.

I even have a signed poster of this movie. It´s a nice horror movie for kids.
-
One of the best 3D movies I've seen as well.
-
The Gate, got the 2d and 3d disc here in the UK great little movie that deserves more praise
-
As many, if not more, legitimate scares than anything else going around at the moment. And Dante uses 3D for the first time like a master. You'd think he grew up watching classic horror and 50s sci fi obsessively......
-
What the fuck, have they run out of titles? There's that Keira Knightley one, that shitty kiddy movie from a few years ago. Get a new title. you lazy fucks.

Be nice to have a 'The Gate' anamorphic, much less a widescreen hd disc...
by Darth Macchio
It's the only 4:3 disc I've got and that's only because I've never seen it in any other form in the states (even an all-region import I found once was still 4:3) That's kinda bullshit really...I wonder how many fantastic little movies never made the jump to the new technology medium? Which films never made it from reel to vhs? Which films never made it from vhs to dvd? Which films never made it to blu? Many lost films I'm sure...even if not "universally recognized" as great, there's still quite a few movies that just seemed to have been abandoned... Just one more obvious facet of the incongruous nature of combining business and art for profit.
