Mr. Eko Becomes THOR 2's Other Villain!!

The Kidd here...
You may know him as Mr. Eko from LOST or Heavy Duty from G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, but soon enough you'll be calling him Algrim the Strong in THOR: THE DARK WORLD.
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has joined the cast of THOR, reports The Hollywood Reporter, as the most powerful of the Dark Elves, who is coerced into fighting the God of Thunder by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston).
As the comics go, Algrim is betrayed by Malekith when fighting Thor, and manages to survive a fall into lava due to his enchanted armor. He is affected by amnesia, but can at least remember his desire to gain revenge on Thor for the events that transpired.
Hmmm... sounds like how a sequel could play out for Alan Taylor with the characters involved...

He should play his character from Oz. Now THAT'S a villain.
by The Krypton Kid
-
As in, that's what happens to the character in reality. He gets transported to Asgard by Smokie, or something...
-
AHH.

expand his universe beyond one story on film. Sure Marvel could have just stuck with one hero, but they took a chance and each time it has payed off for Marvel/Disney. I look forward to Phase two more than I did with the Phase one films. I never thought I'd say I love a group of action fantasy as much as I love Star Wars but I love the Marvel films that much. I've never been much of a comic reader beyond the Marvel Star Wars run from 1977 through the early 80's, each Marvel film is new ground for me and I don't really care if they stay true to the comics or not. It's fun, lighthearted entertainment that has heart. Kudos to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for creating much of what is the Marvel universe.
-
I hope Marvel Studios continues to tap the themes from Simonson's run on Thor - by far the most influential/epic in that book's history.

He will always be Simon ADEBESI before Mr. Eko or Heavy Duty...come on now
by MRJONZ72
Its the single most memorable and scariest character he's ever played and the one that thrust him in peoples minds..To this day I still wonder how that hat stayed on his head. I know of people that know of Adebesi not by watching the show but by others talking about him...okay okay I may be a little hard on ya. Mr. Eko can be a semi close 2nd..but most folks if you put his picture up. I guarantee you they still say Adebesi before Heavy Duty. Maybe not guarantee but you know what I mean.

Marvel Phase 2 stand alone movies could be as good and big as Avengers. I think they kept the budget lower on Thor in case it bombed. I think Thor cost 165 million while Green Lantern cost 200-300 million dollars. Smart move by Marvel but probably why the Destroyer fight was short. Alan Taylor from Game of Thrones directs an excellent cast, and I imagine the budget might be higher, plus the sets from Thor are still good, and Joss Whedon might provide some helpful ideas too, Thor 2 might be insanely awesome!
-
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as anybody is cool and all, but Jesus, I thought Amora was a given for the sequel. Nucking futs!

All Thor has to do is give Adebisi some TIT's and it's a wrap!!

Loved that dude in Oz.

I've been Bamboozled!

Casting a black villain in a movie called The Dark World?! I thought we had progressed as a society past the point of disgraceful, offensive stereotyping. Thanks alot movie industry for reminding us of our dark unfortunate history. Doh! Did I just use the word dark? Now you got me using insulting coded racial terminology. Now I have to go read my NAACP newsletter twice to make recompense.
-
defeats his enemies, will he throw them over a table and victory fuck them in the ass? Who has the most dangerous Hammer now Thor?! This is turning into a different type of Marvel movie.

Pricking someone with an AIDS infected needle.

Awesome news. I've always liked this actor, ever since he played Kahega in CONGO.

the guy has had some memorable TV roles but is notoriously difficult to work with
by Titus05
the entire cast of HBO's Oz was amazing!...almost every one of them has gone on to bigger things because of the show- J.K. Simmons, Kirk Acevedo, Harold Perrineau, Lee Tergeson, Dean Winters I'm surprised Eamonn Walker (Kareem Said) never had any other breakthrough roles after Oz
-
Great, great villain. In fact, after his character was killed, I felt like the show went down the drain. (How DID he keep that hat on?)
-
It's pretty badass looking.
-
...but once again, us old timers gotta say "Don't forget Kirby!"
-
Me too. I never liked the way Mr. Eko went out.
-
Oz, the first true gritty show that has haunted me to this day ... the show that should be shown to kids to scare em straight.
-
I loved his acting on LOST. He deserves this big time.

I hope they do that Simonson story that has Loki turning Thor into a frog
by Chuck_Chuckwalla
Probably not the whole story but maybe Loki changes him into a frog for a few seconds and turns him back, just to fuck with him.
-
...only cause he was my choice for Black Panther.

Titus you forgot the guy who probably has had the biggest career out of OZ
by DougMcKenzie
Chris Meloni. I don't think anybody really understood what they were watching when they saw OZ. The Wire, Soporanos, Deadwood, Carnivale, and OZ are truely some groundbreaking complex material. Watching those shows I never felt like I was being treated with kid's gloves. I want THAT HBO back... I mean aside from GoT and The NewsRoom... frankly it's too lightweight.... True Blood is a fucking soap for god's sake.

Revenge! Falls into lava? How is this not Darth Vader?
by Nautilus_nrm1
-
hmm.. 3rd time's a charm??
-
Eko was probably the best written character on Lost, with Ben Linus a close second. I think a little Eko-speak would work well in Asgard
-
You mean Chris Meloni has a bigger career than Vern Schillinger himself, JK Simmons? Not quite. We Are Farmers Bum Ba Dum Bum Bum Bum Bum.
-
Count me as yet another person who considers Abebisi from OZ to be this guy's signature role. Eko was barely in LOST, and I pity anyone who has to put GI JOE at the top of the CV. If those are your frames of reference when talking about AAA, then you missed out on one of the best characters in any TV show ever made.
-
...to avoid a "THOR vs. THE PLANET OF THE EVIL BLACK PEOPLE" thing. Some folks might not appreciate it.

Amazing true story about how I've known this could be true for 2 weeks.
by FieldmanNo.1
About 2 weeks ago I was on the London underground heading North on the Piccadilly line. 2 seats up was a guy reading a script. I was bored and nosey and I strained my eyes to see the script. I saw names like Volstagg and Sif and realised it was Thor 2. Then the guy reading the script caught my eye and looking back at me, decked out in black Nike was Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje! I felt really embarrassed at being caught out and blurted out "Any good?". He smiled and with effortless cool shrugged his shoulders to say "not bad at all". He then put his fingers to his lips to say shhh - you can't tell anyone. It was almost like he knew I would have loved to have scooped this on AICN. Then when I got off the train he shook my hand - a proper gent. I genuinely wanted to respect his request to keep quiet and so that's why I am revealing this now.
-
thats one hell of a story! 10 x bad ass

Thanks for sharing that!

Anyone that can knock Chuck Zito out with a big can of Tomatoes and ass rapes his wannabee Mafia Don is reason enough to put this character over the other roles played by Mr. Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

After last time when iddiot fan boys got their knickers in a twist about Idris Elba in the first movie,I think this sends a clear message to them....ACTORS act,not matter what colour they are,it's a fantasy story.Hopefully if Beta Ray Bill was in this or future Thor/Marvel films who would you use?My money's on a black actor.
-
Crazy as hell ruthless as hell. This dude had by far the most cringe worthy scenes on that show. A show which they should use as a scared straight because it would ensure you wouldn't want to go to prison. But pretty much most of the things he's been in I've greatly enjoyed. Way to go Adebisi!
-
Cause I'd be buggin' if they were.

Literally just talked about this yesterday.
