Who Might Captain America Be Loving In THE WINTER SOLDIER??

The Kidd here...
Marvel Studios is trying to move quickly on securing their female lead/love interest for the follow-up to CAPTAIN AMERICA, and they may have narrowed their search down to three candidates for the slot.
According to the New York Post's Page Six, Anna Kendrick is the front runner on the short list right now. Right behind her though are LIKE CRAZY's Felicity Jones and Imogen Poots from last year's FRIGHT NIGHT remake, who is currently working with Terrence Malick on his KNIGHT OF CUPS.
Which Marvel character is up for grabs at this point to seamlessly transition into Phase Two of the Marvel Movie Universe?
My sources are telling me not to be surprised if the Russos have the introduction of Sharon Carter/Agent 13 lined up for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Carter was the niece of Peggy Carter and also an ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. field agent for Nick Fury. She also was Steve Rogers' girlfriend from time to time, so add all these elements up and not only do they make for a strong female character to help front CAPTAIN AMERICA 2, but it's an expansion of the Marvel Movie Universe that can be incorporated into the next big goal - THE AVENGERS 2.
Kendrick has yet to break through as a lead actress thus far, doing all of her best work in supporting roles... but this would be the opportunity to take her career up a notch, and, while I really dug Jones' performance in LIKE CRAZY, I'm a big Anna Kendrick fan who'd like to see her take on something as cool as this.

....But seriously, this needs to happen. Anna Kendric is a fucking good actress, extremely attractive, and has some appeal for female viewers.

Makes for very odd pllow talk, have always felt that relationship was weird. Think I would rather see Dimondback as the love interest.
-
Poots!
-
I'd like to!
-
Kinda sad how they locked themselves out of that whole world by the end of the first Cap film. Of all the Avengers characters, Cap seems like the toughest to extend into other films. Hope they figure out a good angle.
-
Hayley Atwell was built like a brick outhouse in Captain America. Is it too much to ask that her descendants carry on the tradition?
-
Sharon Carter is supposed to be a spitting image of Peggy, so bringing back Haley Atwell makes the most sense.
-
Comfortable? Good. Now, play the scene where you an actress seducing a producer . . . . Yes, that's good. I've got a part for you. I've got a big part for you!
-
The thing I like about the choice of Kendrick is it looks like she's got something going on upstairs. An engaging, smart heroine should *look* like they actually think.
-
from that Clooney movie to the awesome Scott Pilgrim to 50/50, the chick is just adorable regarding this movie, I think I am one of the few who had no positive feelings of Captain America... so, I hope she doesnt take this role... it cant be any worse than her obligatory studio pg13 movie about singing/dancing

Anna Kendrick is nerdy cute, but no way for a romantic lead against Cap.

I have to agree with the idea of bringing Hayley Atwell back and recasting her as Sharon Carter.
by Sean
She did a wonderful job of balancing toughness, intellect and sexiness and having a good rapport with Evans. You believed that she could fall for an idealistic, old fashioned dork like Rogers. Failing this, none of those 3 options seem like a great fit. I like Kendrick and needs that big lead role but I don't know if this is it.
-
Bring back Hayley Atwell!! Or how about Kelly Brook? What is going on in Britain for there to be so many babes?

I only just saw LIKE CRAZY last week and Felicity Jones' performance in it, it was good, and she was adorable off the scale. However...

You might've picked in fact one of the very worst pics of Imogen Poots there that I've ever seen. Because I immediately fell in love with her in Fright Night after about 5 minutes. She was mindblowingly hot in that movie..
-
She'd make a fine love interest for say, Michael Cera. Not Captain fucking America!
-
She was right.

The article linked article doesn't seem to mention romance.

The other two look too young to be taken seriously.

loved her character, her acting, her accent, her accents, ect ect ect. In my mind Cap went and personally thanked the waitress who said "Cap America saved my life" from Avengers. Super Soldier Sperm!
-
This is what happens when film executives try to think! Don't think, suit! Just re-cast Hayley Atwell - a superb actress and ridiculously hot to boot. She has an immense figure, genuine beauty and there is so much that could be generated by the leftover tension from her relationship with Steve from The First Avenger: it was one of the better aspects of the movie.
-
Aug. 21, 2012, 2:30 a.m. CST
Agree on Poots, she's the only one that would really fit the role (if they can't get Hayley again)
by DidntPullOutInTimeCop
-
She was soooooooo fine in the first film! But wouldn't the character be better as a granddaughter? How could a niece be 70 years younger than her aunt?? Actually, can anybody explain how old Howard Stark was when Tony was born? He's in his (late?) 20s in Cap 1, but 70 years later Tony is in his mid 40s. Did Howard Stark become a dad in his late 50s then?? I'm not familiar with the comics, only the MCU.

by whatevillurks

and I really liked her in Up In the Air but I don't see here as a leading lady. She still looks too girlish and unbelieavable as an agent of Shield. Jones is freaking hot but may be a little too hot for the role. She would make a great villian, like Diamondback. Poots is perfect IMO. She is gorgeous, looks great as a blond, can be believable as a shield agent and has the accent. Works all the way around.
-
Seriously - updating this story just writes itself. Cap now released from his repressed 40s surroundings is torn between his latent homosexual attraction to Bucky and Bucky's resurrected alternative leanings. Meanwhile back in Avengers 2 this unleashes Tony Stark's more right wing republican instincts and with it his homophobic streak. Thor just stands around looking confused thinking Cap yelling about being gay means he's up for draught of ale and a jolly good sing song day of carousing. You really can't have all these ultra-buff guys in tight form fitting outfits without at least one really embracing 'the alternative lifestyle'. And it adds a really nice ironic twist that the ultimate symbol of america is a confused closet case, released into a 21st century with a much more open attitude to his hidden desires. This sets up the Winter Soldier tension perfectly. Also lots of great scenes in Avengers 2 where Tony Stark keeps hiring beautiful escort girls for Cap to try and 'cure' him. And then we have a perfect excuse to have all the female leads exploring their bisexual urges too. Y'know, just in the interests of balance.

Sharon Carter is blonde. Why only have one blonde out of the three?
by Detective_Fingerling
Always thought Ali Larter would make a good Agent 13. Poots is the only one on here that makes any sense. The other two I just can't see as blonde. As far as Kendricks goes, I don't see her as a shield agent. She only knows how to play mousy, uneasy, uncomfortable fast talkers in movies.

Bring Back Hayley Atwell!!! Best idea I've read on here.
by HapaPapa72
Do it, do it, do it. I promise I will go see the movie five times at least. Yeah, she's built like a brickhouse, but I fell hard for her Peggy Carter too. I was genuinely sad for a day or two at the end of CA knowing he would never see her again.
-
to me, this is obvious. Righetti played the unnamed female agent who meets Cap as he wakes up. THAT AGENT, should be Sharon. In fact, I was amazed when they didn't do that in the movie. Righetti is hot as hell, can act, and resembles the gorgeous Atwell enough to be a relation. This way, they keep the continuity. Also, I just recently realized that Phillips horn dog secretary is jophrey's manipulative new wife on Game Of Thrones That chick is stacked! But I digress...get Amanda Righetti. Give her blond hair (they could have darkened it so she looked more like Peggy when cap woke up)
-
no offense to those ladys above but Yvonne Strahovski would be a much better sharon carter she already played the part on chuck

by Al
Also probably Old Lady Attwell in the future. "Sure, Steve, fuck my granddaughter!" she says with her hand shaking.
-
Make her a shemale! Caps reaction to finding whats in her pants would be priceless!
-
The first one was terribly predictable and boring. Story was piss-weak, but that's to be expected from a super hero flick.
-
Let me just say that I totally agree with everyone who feels that Haley Atwell should return in the Captain America sequel - whether it is set in the past or the present. Having said that, I wish the first film would have ended with a scene of Steve Rogers finding Peggy Carter in a nursing home and having that dance with her... picking her up and holding her as she passes away in his arms. You could also have had family members outside of her room, and Sharon could have been among them. This would have taken place after word had gotten out to the public that Captain America was found alive. I do understand that mathematically, in terms of years, it probably wouldn't have worked, but one of the great sub-plots of Steve Englehart's classic run on the character was the Steve/Peggy/Sharon love triangle. I'd also get a kick out of a Cap/Agent Maria Hill romance (any chance to see more of Cobie Smulders), and an unlikely Cap/Madame Viper love/hate relationship (think every James Bond film that you have ever seen... lol).

And her 'pecs' are even more impressive than his.
-
That moralistic fuck probably doesn't believe in sex before marriage. Ergo, all three of these fine women would be completely wasted on him.
-
Anna Kendrick, pistols, and black leather sound finger-lickin' good to me. Cap triple-teamed by Cobie, ScarJo, and Anna? Somebody else out there besides me has gotta be thinkin' it!!
-
She killed in the role. The new character is supposed to be related to her. It's a no-brainer.
-

by blueant
So much to explore. Cap.America meeting Gen.Patton, etc...Modern era like the gay ass political leadership of today would seriously suck.
-
Since Sharon is supposed to be a dead ringer for Peggy (other than the hair color), can't we just get Haley Atwell in a blonde wig (ala Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen) pretty please??? I'm just picturing her in a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform and ... and .... gotta go--
-
in a comic book movie, where can you have them? Agreed on Hayley Atwell as Sharon Carter.

Wow, looks like I touched a nerve by bringing up Atwell. If anyone at Marvel/Disney is reading this talkback: I think the sentiment is pretty clear.
by kevred
They hit a home run the first time out with Atwell. She's gorgeous, can act very well, has great chemistry with Evans, and the family connection makes her re-casting possible. She's head and shoulders above these other mannequins. Make it so, Marvel.
-
It's already been announced that she's not coming back. This isn't the Guiding Light or some romantic comedy. I don't want to see her embarrased in some blond wig. Maybe they will have Red Skull Jr. in the movie as well.

-
gimme a break yall...Anna Kendrick? she is only 5 feet tall, she is tiny (look up her stats on imdb if u dont believe me). the choice from all 3 is not so obvious tho: Imogen Poots, while being a natural blond, blue-eyed babe like Sharon Carter, is only 5'2", not much better than Kendrick, but at least a blond. they r lookin in all the wrong places. they need some one who looks the part (chris evans looks the part of cap, why cant sharon carter?), with the sensibility of a Kate Beckinsale (not suggesting KB, she too old for dis shit)
-
...and she's got some genre cred on the resume (28 Weeks Later, Fright Night, V for Vendetta) Not that it's required, but I like the whole package. I vote Poots. Does Kendrick have any physical roles in her history to be considered here? SHIELD Agents gotta do stuff. ...and she has really thin lips...don't trust thin lipped people.
-
Evans isn't that tall. If Hemsworth can be with Portman then Evans can work with Poots at her height. They just look better together. Ultimately we'll need someone who has chemistry with Evans, something that Atwell/Evans had in spades. We just don't need the soap opera nonsense of Atwell showing back up in a wig. Just give Evans a sweet moment with an Atwell made up to look like a 99 year old woman and then let her die. Personally I'd rather see Cap with Black Widow or Maria Hill but this isn't The Vow, so who cares. Just give us some great villians Marvel. I loved Loki and Hugo's Red Skull was adequate but Marvel has yet to blow me away in the villian department.

Love you guys arguing on casting "logic" in a comic book film
by kevred
Did you just now get to the "logic" over whether someone can or can't be cast in a role after reviewing the dozens of illogical moments in every comic book film to date? You're right, it's not a romantic comedy, it's a comic-book film. Logic takes a back seat, or at least it does to those who aren't uptight nerds. We have a black Nick Cage, American Black Widow, and you think anyone playing Sharon Carter is going to either have to be blond or need a blond wig? very rich, parissun and stalkeye. We know you love Poots, parissun, which is fine; and presumably, stalkeye either has his hot-for choice or is either simply too uptight about movie casting. Fine. Just don't pretend there's some logic that invalidates another choice.
-
Those we've seen so far have been great, but Marvel has loads of great villains. They could have a knockout bad guy with every film and not remotely run dry. Hope they make it a point of emphasis.
-
i was wondering when the hell cap was going to see peg carter at a hospice or a retirement home, coz u know she would be at least in her late eighties today - i was expecting 2 c that at the end of avengers, but never happened - hope 2 c it in the sequel to the cap movie. that would be a really emotional scene. i have seen it in comix where cap eventually met up with peggy, and she was all "look at me, i am old, wrinkled and out of shape while u still look the same when we first met... -peace out
-
...from the deleted scenes from Avengers.
