UPDATED!! Jim Carrey In KICK-ASS 2? If Universal Gets Their Way...
The Kidd here...
No offers have been made, and there's no telling if Jim Carrey even has interest in doing it, but Universal is at least making overtures to him in the hopes of nabbing him for a supporting role in the Jeff Wadlow-directed KICK-ASS 2.
According to Deadline, the role Carrey is being targeted for is the Colonel, who founds the superhero group Justice Forever, which eventually recruits the title hero (Aaron Johnson) as well as Donald Faison's Doctor Gravity and Robert Emms' Insect Man. Together, they all band together to take on Red Mist (a returning Christopher Mintz-Plasse), who changes his name along the way to the Mother Fucker.
Carrey is said to be a huge fan of Matthew Vaughn's first film, but whether or not that will carry over into some participation in the sequel remains to be seen. Universal has their fingers crossed, and it'd definitely be a different type of role for Carrey to take at this point in his career, as a hard-R superhero flick is hardly the first project that you'd associate with him. I'm hoping where there's smoke, there's some fire on this front.
UPDATE: I'm hearing now that Universal has an offer on the table to Carrey. The ball is in his court if KICK-ASS 2 is something he truly wants to do. If so, I'd expect a deal to come together rather quickly.

Er, I mean, Justice Forever. First and foremost!
-
He was like 17 in that, one of his first movies. Directed by Michael Glassberg. See it.
-
The ironic, ordinary-loser-as-homemade-superhero story had already been done to death, BLANKMAN, MYSTERY MEN, SUPER, etc, and KICK-ASS tried to seem so novel and original. Cage was the best part of the original, and he's dead.
-
righty then.

Carrey's really gotta choose some better films to work on
by Christian Sylvain
The guy's been kinda hit and miss for the past couple of years.
-
I mean.. I think everyone here should have some idea of Carrey's talent in .. an almost supernatural way of contorting his face to easily play characters completely alien to himself.. but why toture the poor bastards here into seeing that god awful POS film? and trust me.. the film itself is AWFUL.. But even in that unholy union, Carrey showed his unnatural talent.. and he has in great reserves, if anyone (including Carrey himself) can get around to unleashing it. That Carrey showed some potential we've yet to even see out of him.
-
Losing Vaughn was a bummer but the cast is looking pretty damn good and if this is true then I'd love to see Carrey's take on "The Colonel" who I imagined someone like Harrison Ford or Russell Crowe when I read the comic.
-
I really wish they would have stuck closer to the original novel. I bet Carrey would have gotten that oscar he has been wanting.
-
First third was ok, but then it was all "Look, we wrote a little girl saying cunt and shooting people! We're so hipster!"
-

How are they going to make Kick Ass 2 controversial..?

Have a 90yo grandmother say "cunt" and shoot people?

Kick-Ass was fun. Didn't really like McLovin, at all. But Chloe, Aaron, and The Cage were a blast. Would love to see Jim join the insanity. He'd fit right in.

the thing is the comic was so much better. her dad wasn't really a disgraced ex cop
by saintsaucey
He was just a loser who had been selling off his comic collection to fund this midlife crisis and he brought his poor daughter along for the ride. There was no unrealistic jet pack, kick ass didn't get the girl in the end. Plus Kick Ass came out before Super.

Damn, I wish I wouldn't have read that. That name change would have been an enjoyful surprise when watching the film for the first time. I love "Kick-Ass"!

The Colonel should be an italian, mobster-type actor.
by Royston Lodge

There is PLENTY controversial in that comic for the sequel.
-
Stop using the word "hipster" as a catch-all for every fucking thing you don't like!
-
Lets bring him back, while we still have him

On the surface this sounds like a good opportunity for Carrey...
by Sean
But reflecting on how mostly awful Kick Asa was, i'd much rather he does something else. How can he recapture the magic of the days of Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb And Dumber and The Truman Show. Then...he was untouchable.
-
It's hard to remember back that far, but I have glimmers of memory, of him being kind of funny, I think. Maybe I'm wrong.
-
I'd rather see Carrey in a sequel to that. That whole cast was great. And that shot of Bolty at the end ... man, that was fucked up.
-
I love Super.

I loved the movie Kick Ass, very fun enjoyable time at the movies. Anyone who didn't like Kick Ass I feel bad for as they might be a miserable fuck who gets no joy out of life. Jim Carrey suffers the same fate as most leading men in comedies, after a while you have seen their act over and over again and you are no longer a teenager anymore so you don't find the same things funny any more. Jim is rich he will be fine, but he must struggle with do I still talk out of my ass or do I do more serious movies, damned if do damned if don't, Kick Ass 2 might be a mix of both serious/ comedy for Carrey

This is the kinda work I wouldn't mind seeing from Carrey, Cage acted inspired in the last film.

The pedos will be out in full force if Chloe Moritz is in the next one
by wcolbert
Mark my words. She's hit puberty now, at least, but even so, not much better than some of the things I read after Kick-Ass came out when she was what, 11? Anyway, Jim Carrey is a very odd choice... then again, I've learned not to rule Jim out from more serious roles (well in this case semi-serious). He's done some pretty great dramatic stuff. It's just that being funny comes so naturally to him that it's hard to take him seriously for the first 10 minutes or so when he doesnt do a comedy -you keep expecting him to do something insane/hilarious or make a face. I still love The Truman Show :)
-

He's a weirdo now. Probably sings on for this so he can take a run at Chloe Moretz.
by Xenodistortion
He's a total creeper now & hasn't been in anything good since the 90's. Dude fucked his career up after getting shafted for Man On The Moon. His poor choice of roles + questionable behavior via internet videos = kind of a nut bag. He's the white Eddie Murphy. Clearly talented, but completely misdirected and kind of crazy from making too much money early on.
-

xenodistortion - if you're referring to the Emma Stone (or whatever her name is) video, that was a joke
by wcolbert
She even made a reply video and they're friends. Besides, she's well legal, even if she's 20 years younger - what guy even in his 40's wouldnt take a run at her? She's hot. Otherwise, I'm not sure what videos you're talking about.

carey, who was brilliant on tv, became a one trick pony in the movies...until man in the moon
by walt
he shouldve become much more choosy after that...he didnt and no, he will suck in this role as he will do it over the top as for moretz as hit girl being a pedo magnet...blame millar, whos entire career is based on how much can he top ennis and ellis i swear to christ, i wish i was running a con would spend all the guest money on getting ennis, ellis, morrison and millar in a room together probably would only understand the curse words...but it would be brilliant
-
This story could be about anyone. I.e. 'They haven't offered it to Meryl Streep/Miley Cyrus/Larry David and they in turn have not expressed an interest in it'. I would hereby like to go on the record as saying I haven't been offered the role and that I have no strong preference either way as to whether or not I get it. Alert the press.

Kick Ass 2 comic was pretty poor...Don't think a sequel's going to give us anything new.
by cameron
Kick Ass was fun and pretty self contained. but i guess with the success of all these SH movies we'll be force fed sequels and more SH's for a few years yet. WE NEED YOU GODZILLA!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Wave enough benjamins in front of his face and he'll do it
-
It wanted to be a movie about real super heroes. Then at the end you have a little girl flipping around and the hero flying around in a jet pack. I don't mind either one but pick one or the other.

Jim's last good movie was ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE etc. (2004)

In my opinion it's his best ever performance. Loved Kick-Ass, would be cool if he does the sequel.

I find it hard to believe Jim Carrey would be cool with getting beat to death, decapitated, and having his dog's head placed on his bloody stump of a neck for the cops to find
by Dogmatic
like The Colonel ended up. His death was really frightening...especially as a comic book fan....the way they were just belittling his comic book collection and memorabilia while they beat him to death.
-
Aug. 21, 2012, 9 a.m. CST
I still don't know HOW they are gonna get away with half the stuff in the Kick-Ass 2 comic. Such as (SPOILERS)
by Dogmatic
MF and his gang killing a whole neighborhood's worth of kids gunning them down in the streets followed by gang raping KA's would-be girlfriend almost to death.....hanging KA's dad after beating him nearly to death complete with defecating himself....having a hero beat to death, decapitated and then beheading a German Shepard and putting it's head on the corpse to be found....which reminds me...a German Shepard eating a man's manhood while he is interrogated by the heroes....and it goes on and on....

by UltraTron

As long as some of that stuff happens off screen, like the decapitation and kid killing, they can have it "in" the movie. When it is implied, it can be just as effective. With some proper editing, all can be achieved. For example, we didn't see Anakin kill all the padawans but we know he did, and that was only PG-13. It will be easy to get all those ideas "on-screen."
-
Just saying.

If he takes it, and nails it, he could be on the path to comeback.
by kindofabigdeal
People still loved Cage's performance in the first even though he's still starring in movies titled 'Stolen'. What else do you expect from the star of Knowing and Drive Angry. Maybe Carrey will follow suit and star in Napped, where he's a man who's trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter. He's a circus clown/magician who must use his 'set or particular skills' to beat the baddies.
-
They need to remake that for theaters . . . . . . . . . . with Carrey playing the father! Call it "More Faces in the Mirror."
-
it's the only way emma stone will sleep with you. She told me last night!
-
the final nail in the coffin. Carrey is so over he should have credits projected on his back, and the first Kick Ass was a stupid piece of cine-shit. That Chloe Moretz is getting creepier the older she gets and she was already class A with that mutant 'too close for siblings" brother of hers.
-
Drop the gang rape and dog killing ... People don't wanna see that shit. Welp, I mean in Republican world- this may be considered a 'legimate rape.' I just trolled so hard ... ignore me! Anyway- please drop the rape and dog killing scenes ... pretty sure 99.9% of the general audience does NOT want to see that in a movie.

Jim's never done anything as vile and nasty as this is supposed to be
by Blarg Barfington
I vote no. Just be Plastic Man, you were fucking BORN for it.
-
Have them light up the schoolyard, none of the bullets hit of course. KA enters before any kids die, or even get shot, but the kids-in-danger ratchets up the tension. Rather than a gang-raping, MF rapes her solo. You get the point across without crossing any X-rated lines. Its not like raping the girlfriend hasn't been a prime protaganist motivator since oh.. Kickboxer. The stuff with the dog can be done as is while being inferred(i.e. camera angles that hide the act while you 'hear' it and see his screams), but not much is actually shown. Lets not forget the original KA had a hero being burned to death on screen. That movie allready set a pretty high standard for violence that any sequel is going to have to find a way to top or be called out as a watering down of the material yet do so in a way that doesn't completely turn everybody off. At the end of the day, you're there to entertain with a violent story, not go so over-the-top as to make people throw up.

In other news Shia labarf will fuck on camera in his next movie. Yay! I cant wait! It was my second choice.. But wonderful
by UltraTron

That is all.
-
The character kinda looked like either one of them anyways, and he was a bit on the older end of things. You could always have Jim play the cop who catches Hit Girl and puts her in jail...
-
JC sucks, Im just not a fan, ok a couple of his movies were ok, but please not KA2, he was god damn awful as the Riddler. I agree someone like Rollins or Ward as the Colonel but not the one trick pony thats Carey, he's sooo yawwwn!
-
Motherfucker needs to make another Ace Ventura & leave the internet videos to someone else. If their intention is to be funny, it's not working (at least for me). He sounds like a wrong choice for this movie too. Nobody should have to follow Nic Cage in a sequel movie. The dude has fallen far.
-
There's no way they'll do almost anything from the comic in this, the extreme violence will be absent and so will the impact. Just not a great idea.
-
Is not as good as the 1st, Theres a ton of room to improve for the movie.
-
Quote for the decade!
-
Kick-ass was terrible. Everywhere else it was pretty damn entertaining. The Talkbackers are assholes as usual and no one pays them any mind outside of this dank website.
-
Exactly. These miserable fucks will bitch about A N Y T H I N G.
-
I just watched God Bless American where an infant is thrown into the air and blasted to a pulp with a shotgun. In Rambo, one of the "bad guys" throws a baby on the end of a pitchfork. It is like you people have not been watching any movies. They can get away with showing all the the items listed as impossible to film and still get an R rating. There are also many movies with violent graphic rape that maintain an R rating like Irreversible, The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, Death Wish and many more. These are just off the top of my head. Those scenes will be in the movie.

I though KA was great but what's with idiots confusing this film with pedophilia.
by Stalkeye
Hmmm, only thing I can recall, is some whacked out pre-Teen who was technically "brianwashed" by her father (Big Daddy.) to kill criminals and the like. The relationship of Hit Girl and Big Daddy played off as an extreme parody of Batman and Robin and that was basically it. What's next, Batman facing accusations of being a Pedo? *SMMFH*
