Learn Which Player Is Joining Kristen Wiig And Andy Samberg Out The SNL Exit!! (Hint: Not Jason Sudeikis Or Seth Meyers!!)
Abby Elliott is done with “Saturday Night Live.”
The daughter of fellow SNL vet Chris Elliott is quitting the show after four seasons.
The actress had been cast in the Fox sitcom "Ben & Kate," but ended up being replaced by Dakota Johnson ("The Five-Year Engagement," "21 Jump Street") before the pilot shot.
Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg, who had longer runs on the show, are also not returning when SNL begins its 38th season this autumn.
There have also been reports that Jason Sudeikis, who has starred in recent movie comedies like “Horrible Bosses,” “Hall Pass” and “The Campaign,” could leave the show as well, though he might stick around to keep playing Mitt Romney until the November election.
Another report indicates SNL head writer and Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers is a top contender to replace Regis Philbin on the daily morning show “Live With Kelly.”

Never really saw her do anything but tiny background parts. Well, I guess she won't be missed...
-
With Wigg leaving, I was thinking of Elliott as the next go to girl for quirky skits. She has great talent with her impressions (as they fit her perfectly) and she isn't clearly trying too hard to land some of her jokes (as Wigg admittedly was).

I'm cool with it as long as Bill Hader and Nasim Pedrad are still there

So maybe she'll get a chance to shine a little more, but definitely feels like the wrong people are leaving (Armisen still has his moments by I could do without, Keenan is complete dead weight at this point).
-
I might watch the show with him on it.

Once they've established some sort of movie carreer or they've gotten a better job on TV, they get the fuck outta there. It's like a sinking ship that won't sink.

With Wiig gone I thought they might actually give her some stuff to do.
by SnootyBoots
Guess I was wrong.

No big loss, the only thing she contributed to the show was being the go-to girlfriend in sketches and causing Fred and Peggy's divorce.

This show hasn't been any good in at least a decade.
by yeah i'm a jerk!
Who cares who is leaving? None of them are any good. Get some decent writers. Maybe these people have talent, but it's hard to say when the stuff they are doing is not funny.

Damn, the "Bein' Quirky" bit was just starting to hit it's stride!
by Al
Ah well, with one recurring bit gone that ups the chance of more "What's Up With That?" I totally mean that, in a non-sarcastic way. I love that skit. Only happened once last year, I believe.

Make the last season the 2014-2015 season and go out with some remaining dignity. The era of the Digital Shorts is over now which is arguably the last great aspect of SNL. Lorne Michaels will be about 70 then and it makes sense. Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Abby Elliott and probably Jason Sudeikis are all done with the show and I can't see any current or new cast members being all that great or really stepping it up for another great era for the show. I like Tear n' Kill 'Em and Jay Pharoah but they aren't given nearly enough to do and maybe that will change with 4 people leaving. It's also possible that Jay Leno will be leaving The Tonight Show as host in 2014 or 2015 and Jimmy Fallon will most likely take that over and then Seth Myers has already said he is not replacing Regis but he can replace Fallon on Late Night. I would not doubt that a lot of this is in the works already anyways. You had a good run SNL, but it's time to hang up your hat after 40 years.
-
she was good on the show
-
With two major players stepping aside, the rest of the cast have an opportunity to pick up the slack.

You might as well predict the demise of The Today Show or Meet The Press
by Hercules
SNL is the highest-rated scripted show on NBC. It beats everything in late night and almost everything in primetime.
-
You would think all the females in the cast would be champing at the bit to fill the void left by Wiig. I swear Wiig has accounted for at least 33% of all screen time on "SNL" the last five years.
-
Elliot was just a small talentless turd
-
They broke away from the formula that has become SNL. The old school SNL episodes didn't have the formula of throw away political bit as an opener, followed by 1 of 3 monologues (super short, song number, Q&A with audience), commercial parody, talk show parody or spoof, celebrity self dig sketch, Musical Act, Weekend Update, Digital short, 'edgy' sketch, reccuring sketch, Musical Act, filler sketch... out of time How about instead of the shit musical act we get a 3 min stand up bit from an up and coming comedian? SNL could maybe have us laughing a few times an episode than? Just my thought

The least funny is the big black guy and he'll never leave the show! lol

More What's up With that? It shouldn't make me laugh hilariously but it does and I don't even think I got to see it last season LOL.

Stupid career move. Unless it wasn't her choice.

if a cast member leaves SNL and there were never any skits for her to be in, does it make a sound?
by TheBaxter
also, what is the sound of one hand clapping? Answer: the same sound made by an SNL audience while sitting through another lame skit.

@walfrid - You hit the nail on the head. Also, let's get rid of Vanessa Beyer.
by Cletus Van Damme
My nightmare scenario is sitting between her and Gary Busey on steak night.
-
I can't believe that "get a life" dummy made something as fine as her. They didn't seem to give her much to fo on SNL anyways. As pretty as she is she 'll find something in Hollywood.
-
Shit hasn't been funny since they stopped the Toonces sketches.

Dear impressionists: if you have to say who you are before you do the impression so I know who you are - it's not a good impression.

With the leaving of some of the top stars, she was perfectly positioned to move up to a more Wiig-like position on the show, and not just a supporting player. SNL is basically a four-stage gig if you go the distance(some actors never get past stage 1). You're a newcomer(like first 2 years), you're accepted(second 2 years), you're featured(next 3), and then you take the fame you've built and quit to pursue a larger career. Abby just got through #2 and was set for #3 and is inexplicably trying to jump to #4. Good luck to her on that. Easily one of the stupidest mistakes i've ever seen anyone make, because to a lot of the general public she's just a name on the show and not exactly a prominent one like Wiig or Samberg. Next 3 years would have done that for her. Hopefully it works out, or I see her getting strung out on drugs and alcohol in her future and becoming a poster child for idiotic career moves.
-
NBC being canceled is more likely and no I'm not joking. Their ratings are in the dumps (unless you count the once every 4 years Olympics), and with today's current television landscape that's not good news.

I guess my step-mother knows Vanessa Beyer to some extent or another
by mr.underwater
And while I don't think I've ever seen her on the show, that association sullies her in my mind, as my step-mother is really, really obnoxious.
-
I really loved her work on SNL. Especially the "What is this" sketch. It's a sketch that I felt they could be really proud of and she did it so well. Well, if she's gone, it would be funny if she showed up on BBC America since Samberg will be on the BBC. Awkward channel choices for the win!

Most of my favorite recurring bits are no longer: Doonice was my favorite, but Secret Word was heeelarious! No more Quirky either. Much as everyone is hating on him, I love What's Up With That? and Scared Straight. The Japanese (but not really) kids is also funny.
-
Vanessa Bayer acts the same in every skit and everytime I see her Miley Cyrus skit I want to puke. The Californians is easily one of the funniest skits last season and the only one to NOT shine in it was Vanessa Bayer. I wish it was her leaving and not Abby Elliot. At least we still have Padred... As for Fred, well he is decent in some things, but with some of his chums leaving I think it might be time for him to hit the road as well.. Besides Jay Pharoah's Obama is much much better...

She's Iranian, I believe.
