Teaser Trailer For ZERO DARK THIRTY!
Nordling here.
SPOILER ALERT: We kill Osama Bin Laden.
So this December, we're going to see Kathryn Bigelow's much-talked-about, controversial film on the search, and eventual takedown, of Osama Bin Laden. The trailer's fairly intense, and as a historical document of the past few years, I don't know how much is conjecture and how much is accurate (I'm sure events were changed a little bit for dramatic effect, just judging by the voice-over in the trailer alone). Either way, this is a must-see movie. Thanks to JoBlo for the trailer:

I'm very happy BL got what he deserved, but boasting about it like this will only fuel the hate. I am truly and deeply scared of what will happen on the midnight premiere of this movie and will keep my kids locked away tightly from any theatre that day.

Actually, Clinton started the search for Bin Laden, not Bush.
-
That is all.

that played the "real" osama bin laden. cool, huh?
-
I'm no fan of Bush (the president, hehe).... but I hate hearing about how Obama took down Bin Laden. It'll be in interesting to see just how political this film is, and if falls on either side of the fence, or right down the middle.

Bush made Bin Laden and the war against terror a non-priority and put all of his focus on Hussein and Iraq. Bush went from saying Bin Laden is wanted dead or alive to he's not that important. It was President Obama who made taking down Bin Laden and other al quaeda leaders a priority. So quit changing facts to suit your political agenda.
-
And how the hell did she win Best Director? Any movie that has a horrible performance by Ralph Fiennes in, doesn't deserve any awards for its director. In fact, that said director should be barred from making films.
-
I absolutely loved Strange Days, but I don't see how you can call The Hurt Locker "crap." It was intense, emotional, and riveting. What more were you looking for from it? And Zero Dark Thirty looks amazing.
-
Pathetic attempt to cash in and ride the wave of the forced, empty nationalistic pride that occurred in the wake of Bin Laden's killing. Americans are stupid and will see this in droves.
-
Then I don't have a reason to watch. Unless Channing Tatum is playing Bin Laden.
-
Bush even made the mistake of calling Bin Laden Saddam in an interview. 9/11 was the best thing to happen to the Bush administration, whether you believe in conspiracy theories or not. It gave Halliburton and the Carlisle Group something to do, generating massive profits for Cheney and others invested in those companies, in addition to shaping our foreign policy for the next several decades. The War on Terror, like the Vietnam War, is not meant to be won, but sustained. Through the use of 'homegrown terror cells' they will continue to frighten the population into submission, and through films like this the myth will become fact.
-
and that they aren't releasing this before election day to "remind" everyone that Osama Bin Laden was taken down by Obama Bin Laden. Oh, whoops
-
The Nazis did the same thing with their propaganda. The Inglorious Basterds paid homage to this. In that film you have the German high command seeing a movie that is meant to inspire hatred for the enemy while at the same time glorifying their soldiers and the violence they dish out to those trying to destroy their way of life. This movie, like Act of Valor, is propaganda. It's meant to brainwash people, through the use of film, into believing a myth and thinking a certain way.
-
is it because of the subject matter or because of the director. I can tell you now, I have interest in neither!
-
Don't see why they shouldn't throw Obama in there, pulling the trigger. He needs a second term.

by GunRunner
In that famous picture, you can actually see that he's still wearing his golf windbreaker in the WH Situation Room. Apparently they went in and did the operation anyway, then decided to call Obama in at the last minute and let him know.
-
I know it's propaganda, which is why I say fuck it to hell. It is indeed no different than what the Nazis did. The US wants to foster hatred for Muslims and Arabs and subsidizes Hollywood films by providing weapon and vehicle props. Pathetic.

I have rarely been so disappointed in a movie that received so many commendations. But that movie was one of the least realistic and dumb movies I've ever seen. Completely ignores the chain of command, acts like the defuser units were autonomous instead of attached to a larger grouping, 500-pound bombs being pulled out of the ground by one guy.......it irritated the hell out of me because it was so unrealistic.

Hurt Locker was a terrible film. Felt like I was watching an episode of CSI:Miami.
by kevred
Terrible writing, poor acting, lousy plot, not even filmed well. I went in expecting a really good film. I was appalled at the melodramatic nonsense that I saw. This one, judging by this little snippet, looks like just as much melodrama with even more pretensions to being something special. Looks like someone has found themselves a method: co-opt something so serious that no one can really criticize you without seeming to criticize the holy efforts you're 'documenting'.

"I do not concur in the words of Barack Obama in a plan to enter an ally of ours... I don't think those kinds of comments help in this effort to draw more friends to our effort," Romney told reporters on the campaign trail. Mitt Romney "So, we're going to invade the country through which we get our supplies -- that means the routes closed. We can't resupply them by air, and you're forcing the Pakistani military to fight us. This is crazy." Fox News' John Gibson said on August 3, 2007: "Obama suggested we invade Pakistan, this week. He's a loser. Jon Gibson Fox News Obama backed policies that would have abandoned Iraq to its fate, he bitterly opposed the surge, and once insisted that US forces invade Pakistan in search of Osama bin Laden - seemingly without regard for the potential consequences of attacking a nuclear-armed nation, ally or not. I find it utterly precious how quick the Right Wing Posters are to act like Obama didn't do anything.
by Lobanhaki2
There was never going to be raid on the Bin Laden compound, with all the risks and implications without the say-so of the commander in chief. Obama didn't crash the meeting concerning the raid, going, "oh, why didn't you guys tell me this was going on!" The problem is, there are a great many theories the right prescribes to that fall apart the minute you look directly at the facts. So long as you're caught up in your hatred and despisement of Obama, you won't see it. You won't notice Obama's repeated praising and crediting of the soldiers involved in the raid. You won't think through what had to happen policy-wise, who had to be informed and what had to be done to get Bin Laden. When Bush got Saddam Hussein, dragged him out of his hidey-hole, I did not feel sorry for that dictator, nor did I deny Bush his credit, despite my severe reservations about how he was carrying out that war. It's time to build your view of the world around something else than your opposition to Obama, and all the other Democrats and Liberals. It's time to have a theory of the world where politics is the secondary, not the primary driver of goals and ideas. Politics will always be a matter of treacherous human interactions, and anybody who bases their worldview on it will end up getting things distorted as the politics are mutated to better position one party against another in the electoral battles. Republicans have to downplay Obama's role in a successful taking down of Bin Laden, because that credit will get him elected. He has to be milking it. He has to be off on a golf course, just dropping in. He has to be the empty suit and everything else bad, or else the narrative the Republicans need to market in order to beat Obama will never sell. You got somebody opposite him now who is making it blaringly obvious to anybody who's not a conservative that he thinks that the behavior that his tax returns might be evidence of us is so distasteful to voters that he doesn't dare release it. But too many of you will simply buy into the endless rationalizations, and let that go. Well, you get people like Bush when you rationalize things like that, when you have people who, when handed things like the ability to fight wars, to get our enemies, to improve our economy and resolve our energy issues, waste them. Republicans are having to hold back Obama in order to portray him as a failure, as a do nothing. Democrats, on the other hand, didn't have to do much, in fact couldn't do much to make Bush the failure he was. Bush simply would not lay down the political angles of things long enough to take care of things in a practical manner. You can always explain away a policy shift, rationalize the politics away. It's easier to do that, than to explain away, sweep under the rug, the consequences of incompetence.

It's an emotional vote, one that you can't even explain to someone who might have a different point of view, existing outside of real policy and thought. I don't even like Romney, but I would take anyone over this guy, including some other Democrats. I used to think the Clintons were the worst thing the Democrat Party could throw at the country, and now I'm finding myself missing them. I REALLY wish Hillary had won that primary.

That wasn't your point though. Bush didn't start the hunt for Bin Laden, Clinton did. Yes, Clinton didn't get him, but neither did Bush. Now I'm saying Obama deserves credit, I believe those working on bringing Bin Laden down do, but the search did not start under Bush's watch.

an enemy so devious and deadly that we must continuously give up more and more freedom, blood, and treasure to be protected from them, was created, financed, armed, trained, and lead by the US government to fight the Russians in the 1980's. Osama Bin Laden, aka Tim Osman, was a CIA asset and a close family friend of "ex"-CIA commander George H.W. Bush. Al-CIA-duh was financed, armed, trained, and lead by the US government to attack Serbia in the 1990's. Al-CIA-duh was financed, armed, trained, and lead by the US government to attack Libya in 2011. Al-CIA-duh is being financed, armed, trained and lead by the US government to attack Syria this very day. Are we noticing a pattern here? This is all established historical fact reported extensively even in the mainstream Corporate media except they'll never connect the dots and spell it out for Joe Sixpack as he watches Faux News and CNN. Al-CIA-duh is and always has been a mercenary force of, for, and by US and NATO intelligence agencies (and the Wall St./City of London Globalist Banking Cartels those agencies actually work for) used to attack its perceived enemies and further their Geo-political goals.

Apathetic films love Al Qaeda and the U.S. Military more than anyone else...

I agree this is a movie length form of BS propaganda. I dont believe Bin Laden is dead, first off, we dont have any proof. Since when do we respect the rights of people from other nations ?How does a "supposed" terrorist get killed and then conveniently buried at sea so no one can see ? theres a video ? show it. pictures ? show them....but those can also be faked, altered, but it would have been more believable than nothing. Personally I dont believe he left the US payroll since the russians were in Afghanistan. He played a roll in what was a big worldwide movie, and since dumb americans need to be focused on who the news and government say are the bad guys now...iran and north korea, then saddam and bin laden, the old bad guys had to get retired. Retired as in living on a beach somewhere with government pensions, taken care of for the rest of their lives for playing the villains the US gov needed to get you to rally behind spending billions and billions of dollars on a fake war effort. Dont get me started on Obama, the fakest president ever. Installed by the gov to give americans the belief that they made a concerted effort for change together, only for him to be a big dufus, thus making you all believe that change was a failure and we need to go back to people that know how to get things done, thus Romney will probably win in an almost landslide this november. But also keep in mind, even though youre voting, it doesnt count anyways....if you got through the 2000 election believing that George Bush Jr really won fairly then youre as dumb as they want you to be. Gore won the popular vote, decisively, but since the actual votes Americans cast mean nothing since the president is elected by the electoral college which doesnt have to follow the popular vote, Shocking ! isnt it ? Votes have not counted since the Supreme Court installed Bush and the American people did nothing, said nothing, didnt really care, so the gov kept on doing it. so keep on eating your hamburgers, watching your reality shows and get fatter and stupider, thats what your government wants. dumb ignorant idiots.

Romney will not win. Not even close. Obama's second term is in the bag. Then Biden will lose to Jeb Bush. Whether this is better or not is a question I leave to you...
-
According to this talkback: bin Laden is alive Obama wasn't in charge when bin Laden was killed Bush didn't shift focus form Afghanistan to Iraq Iraq was a humanitarian mission Bill Clinton is at fault for 9/11 George Bush is smart The economy is worse now than it was when Bush left Seriously, guys, take off your blinders and accept while you are entitled to any opinion there is only one set of facts. Fuck, I should NOT have read this AFTER the Idiocracy talkback.

the end of the movie will have Obama at a cafe in Paris sipping tea and bin laden nodding to him across a table with Gwenyth Paltrow

why fake it in 2011? Why not do it this year when it would be a much bigger boost to Obama's reelection campaign?

...I thought it looked okay, but not great. Does this have to be [REDACTED] now?
by Bill C.
That said I'm glad it didn't look splashy and stupid either. If it strikes a happy balance (or preferably skews a bit more towards the serious side), I'm okay with that.

....and what is grand. We shout our opinions at the top of our lungs, or in bold type (see above), only to dig the heels of those who listen deeper into their own perspective. Governments lie. People divide. Progress stalls, but does not die. Every generation is a little smarter than the last, while falling tragically short from their potential. Political leanings are outdated folks! Take each candidate on their own merits, and don't be surprised when they prove to you later, that politics are a craft of embellishment. A craft of illusion. Information and emotion don't usually play nice together. We wear our opinions like an albatross and recite them just as our parents did their own. We think changing our beliefs is 'flip-flopping,' rather than the possibility of growth and change. New understanding does not undercut your being. We are not defined by the things we say, or think that we believe in. The only parties that are worth being a part of include good music, nudity, and vice of personal preference. I'll bring the beers.

Kathryn Bigelow: She lived long enough to become the Villain

Just Kidding

Sorry, but it's true. It started out okay, but then it just got hokey. There were four of us watching the movie and all of us just saw it for the warmongering bravado it was. Really piss poor movie and I was shocked it got the Oscar - could only happen in a country as obsessed with war as the U.S.

thulsaboom -- well said! Both parties are part of the problem
by Michael Morning
And the other part of the problem are idiots who actually think that one party is better than the other.

The fact of the matter is that the two-party system is intentionally polarizing. Neither really speaks to what a thinking individual should believe when it comes to all subjects, but the die-hards drink the Kool Aid and stop thinking for themselves, just parroting the beliefs of the party, whatever the topic. The two parties are first and foremost businesses. They make billions while the sheeple fight their battles for them.

Obama and Romney are two sides of the same coin. Neither of them gives two shits about the people. They are both rich "suits" hawking the product of their party and the agenda of the powers-that-be. They occasionally throw crumbs to the plebes in order to keep them fighting their battles for them and keeping the left vs. right debate alive, but in reality they are self serving scum.

Both Obama and Romney are multimillionaires, so it's ludicrous that everyone has jumped on the bandwagon to get Romney to release his tax returns. Who cares! They're both rich men, so why the pissing contest over who's richer? We know Romney is a multi-multi-millionaire while Obama is merely a multimillionaire.

Defining them both by their words and deeds, I say vote for neither. Ron Paul was the only real choice, and he's no longer in the running. It's time to get back to independent thought and get more independent and third party voices into the mix. This left vs. right nonsense needs to end for the country to ever progress.

You know, where at the end they throw Megatron in the Ocean..... They could replace Megs head for OBL. SEAL Team 6 did jack shit.... OBL was dead years ago.... What is it that they say? Pictures are it did not happen. How about a body?

Will They Show ST6 Getting Shot Out of the Sky in Afghanistan?
by Darr Furr
The whole "operation" right down to the Pics of Obama and Co. watching live footage reeks of a publicity stunt. This is not a Right vs. Left Issue. This is a "we have a government what ceases to be for the people" issue. Detroit is using 40 year old textbooks..... NASA is relying on the Russians to ferry stuff into space.... The general infrastructure is in decline.... But we are waging perpetual war for the likes of GE, Boeing, etc....

People saying The Hurt Locker sucked must've really, really wanted Cameron and Avatar to win those Oscars.
by hank henshaw
Ok, maybe Hurt Locker wasn't "Best Movie" material, but it was pretty good. Besides, I liked that it showed how some people that love to be in the military as just fucked up in the head.
-
Hurt Locker was good but no way am I seeing a movie about Osama Bin Laden. Jesus who fucking cares? Show this as a double-feature with that bullshit movie about the passengers hand-to-hand fighting Al Qaeda in the plane over pennsylvania. Anyone who believes this crap deserves the government we've got.

He was elected Governor of California based on his "trust me, I'm a businessman, I know how to run a state like a business"(sound familiar) routine. Now California is a fucking beat shit-hole full of whiny bitches with such a sense of self entitlement that they are more concerned about paying for their pot prescriptions than they are about paying their internet bills. Didn't anybody stop and say "Yeah, but the business was Planet Hollywood, and they serve fried chicken with batter made of Cap'n Crunch, which sounds good but is actually the most disgusting shit I've ever eaten."

Arnold was elected based on his celebrity status, Jack
by Darth_Inedible
I honestly don't remember Arnold's alleged 'business experience' being a huge selling point. He was elected because he wanted to freeze budget and state hiring and get the state's finances in order. The theory was that Arnold was a sensible, non-threatening celebrity Republican would could lead the state through the necessary hard choices. But of course when your state is run by public unions and other hard left interest groups doing this is impossible, so of course Arnold 'moderated his tone' after being elected and failed the people who elected him.

This film was originally based on a book written a month before President Obama was elected.
by leroyspoboys
The book is called 'Kill Bin Laden' by Dalton Fury (a pseudonym). Published October 2008. The film also had the same name for a couple years. Our guys actually finding and killing him during Neptune Spear was just icing on the cake and caused some last minute re-writes to this film's script. Easy money.
