Ain't It Cool Exclusive GREYSTONE PARK Trailer
Nordling here.
Oliver Stone got his start in genre filmmaking - his first film SEIZURE was straight-up horror, followed by a pretty insane performance by Michael Caine in THE HAND - and now his son Sean Stone is following in his father's footsteps with his first feature-length film GREYSTONE PARK, about a camera crew exploring the depths of an abandoned insane asylum, cameras in tow, and what happens to them there.
Here's the synopsis:
Based on true events, the film follows three aspiring filmmakers trying to document unexplainable events in an abandoned insane asylum known as Greystone Park. Urban legend has it that anyone who ventures into the forsaken hospital will suffer the consequences and face their own horrors. The trio stumble across a mysterious realm of escaped patients, ghosts and demonic shadows, as they try to uncover the truth behind Greystone Park.GREYSTONE PARK stars Sean Stone, Oliver Stone, Alexander Wraith, Antonella Lentini, John Schramm, Monique Zordan and Monique Van Vooren and written by Stone and Wraith.

Hope so despite camcorder dynamic.
-
I think they need to take a 10 year break on these movies as I don't think it's scary any more, maybe come back in ten years and it might have an effect again!
-
And no film has ever overcome what Eddie Murphy states in Delirious - first ghostly voice you hear in a house, "too bad we can't stay baby" and drive the fuck away there and then.

`Based on True Events`, `Urban Legend` - I think those sentences cancel each other out.
by higgledyhiggles
This genre of filmmaking really has become bankrupt of all interest instead relying on `exciting` cover art work to sell it to unsuspecting teenagers. Do yourself a favour and demand more for your money.
-
paranormal activity 4 looks better.
-
Ugh, yet another filmmaker's offspring in the pipeline. With a paint-by-numbers, derivative, low-budget horror flick. At least the DVDs will make nice coasters.
-
make it happen. or dc make it happen with animal man. we need men who communicate with animals. its been far too long. i saw greystone and starting thinking about greystroke

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA
-
looks like a shitty syfy channel show
-
I think enough is enough with these camera-view movies. I liked the Paranormal Activity flicks enough, but I'm hoping #4 is the last one. Okay, Trollhunter was neat, and apparently that superhero one was supposed to be really good. But Cloverfield kinda showed that you can only put so much gloss on these movies before they become ineffective, and the numbers of failures in the genre are racking up. Apollo 18, Chernobyl Diaries, Devil Inside, Diary of the Dead, Last Exorcism, Amityville Haunting...some of these have good qualities, but the numbers are racking up of less-than-memorable additions to the concept. And, as a horror fan, I just don't find them very effective anymore. Really, all of them have kind of blended together in my memory, and I have a tough time recalling which one was witch.

Some of the real life stories/histories of abandoned places
by Steve Lamarre
are a lot scarier than the fictional stuff people come up with.
-
......and the drawing shown at the beginning of the trailer looks a whole lot like Danvers State Hosp. where "session9" was filmed.
-
yeah, it kind of reminded me of the storm troopers in Half-Life. speaking of which, why can't we get a Half-Life movie? who wouldn't love a guy fighting inter-dimensional aliens and zombies with a crowbar?

Who else is tired of rich director's offspring saying " I can do it too!"
by Ray
This guy's a winner- I'll direct, star, and throw in my famous dad for good measure! What a pretentious asshole.
-
but in a haunted house..
-
...paid AICN off to run this trash? With all the promising young independent directors posting their work online in the hopes that ANYONE will see it, we get this highlighted instead. I'm actually embarrassed for the site. It's "exclusive" because no one else would be caught dead running it, guys.

that he's David Bowie's son, he lets his work speak for itself. This guy is doing the opposite. He even cast his father. And holy fuck that trailer was boring as hell.

by kevmoley
this type of filming is getting old
-
Were there any AICN reviews (or anything at all)? Last I remember was the trailer posted here... just checked IMDB and it seems it has come and gone from theaters and already hit DVD?
-
That's true. For a quick glimpse, it does look like it might be going somewhere interesting and creepy.
-
It's generally pretty hard to tell with this found-footage stuff.
-
I watched it on TV years ago. The show is called "Ghosthunters" the episode is "Garden State Asylum". To make a movie based on that bullshit is stupidity at it's best.
-
The plot synopsis is the most cliche ridden thing I've read recently. Hooray for having rich parents that let you do whatever you want, I guess. Must be nice.

by IAmTommyWiseau
That way, if it turns out the place is haunted by violent ghosts, I'd definitely be the last one they try to kill.
-
Whenever I see "Based on True Events" attached to a horror movie, I tune out. Guess what kids? There are no demons, ghosts, vampires, etc. Hence it can't be based on true events. I am so sick of found footage bullshit movies. Enough already. Also this prick is probably just as full of shit as his Daddy, so fuck em both.
-
...that are exactly like this. "Found footage" of an insane asylum ghost hunt. And this doesn't look it's any better than those.

Why do filmmakers keep using the phrase, "Based on True Events" ? .
by Nichole
Hasn't worked since Texas Chainsaw used it to reference Ed Gein. I'm sure at some point I will see this, but Hot Damn, this is repetition at its finest. It is NOT based on real events. You are just referencing a ghost story. Fuckers. Sorry, it's 105 degrees in Oregon today. Where is my dismal rain and cold?

We are all an agreement about this film. There is hope yet.

Unlike the 'Blair Witch' or any of the found-footage movies, you can actually go to Greystone. So before trashing the flick, maybe you should give Sean Stone some credit for having the balls to break in and explore it for himself. Check out his talk with Alex Jones about the experience -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZCg3ZoaPgM

All the places Ghost Hunters and the like go to, are real places too. With interesting History. Doesn't mean this movie is going to be anything different. I guess, I will just say, The Trailer didn't sell me. Seems like rehashed ideas, which is unfortunate, for the son of Oliver Stone. If THIS is the movie that really shows ghosts, and changes my mind about everything, then I will step back and gladly eat every fiber of my underwear. But No, this is just another movie. I believe in ghosts and I watched your link. Cool stuff, for sure, but this movie looks like a big bag of turds that I don't need to look at.

They actually went to an old building and they actually filmed this stuff. Now that is frightening. Also I'm a big fan of people using using terrible film effect plugins in post. So... great.

I think that's the former insane asylum in Philadelphia -- forgot what it's called, but my brother said he had a friend who worked there. Or something. Not sure what to think of that trailer. It's creepy thinking about what probably happened in the asylum, but as an atheist, I'm not scared in any way of "supernatural" thrillers. Give me REAL insane-asylum horror, and you'll scare the crap out of me. But paranormal ghost stories with hand-held camera shots don't do it for me. They never really did, actually. Ever. That said, for fans of supernatural horror, I hope Sean Stone delivers something a bit unexpected. Hard to tell from the trailer if he will.

Just because your dad is a famous Oscar-winning director doesn't mean you have the same talent as your dad.
by Mr. Pricklepants

That looks dreadful. Absolutely dreadful. The biggest problems with these stupid fucking FF movies, besides them being shockingly repetitive, is that the actors are so obviously acting. First rule of a fake documentary should be act like you're in a fucking documentary. You can just see every one of these desperate drama students trying to be discovered in this movie. Just awful.
-
But they're two different asylums, Greystone and Danvers State Hospital. Two pretty cool looking building with a lot of history and I'm sure plenty of ghost. Session 9 was a pretty good movie though.
-
Why not just ask the Stone family why they chose to single this site out for this punishment?
-
I'll take that any day over this. FANTASTIC film that is deeply disturbing. Not this one. SESSION 9.
