I'm first!
-
i wish i hadn't seen the raid before watching this. hopefully i won't be comparing it to the raid the whole time and i can just enjoy it for what it is.
-
but I fear it will be a huge bomb, regardless of quality. September is a terrible month.
-
Sounds like a John Carpenter/Alan Howarth score.
-
... it reinforces the message that this is a darker and more violent film than stuff like The Avengers, and Dredd standing over his disintegrating city perfectly reflects the film's thematic concerns.
-
Each one of those buildings is multiple city blocks wide and 200 stories high. They've followed the comics very closely.
-
The Cityblocks in this film are all a FULL One kilometer in height, more than One Thousand meters, taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and the blocks have more than 200 floors each, with a population of 75'000 people. You don't need to have the blocks crammed together like in the crapulent Stallone film (of which this is NOT a remake). The Blocks in StalloneDredd were 1500 feet in height tops, you can hear it in the background at the start of the film. That tops out at 450 meters tops. The buildings in this film are at least twice the height.

Love the poster! But that doesn't mean the film will be any better for it...

Mr. and Mrs. Kowalchuck would like to announce the birth of their son, Dredd Kowalchuck.
-
Looks strikingly similar to every superhero poster in recent memory. Hero stands head held high in glory while the world burns and explodes around him.

September is a dumping ground for turkeys. This is a turkey.

judgement. Bah.
-
but I've always had a soft spot in my wretched heart for Stallone's Judge Dredd. I'm not going to argue that its an underrated gem but to this day I can turn it on and still enjoy it, flaws and all. Not to mention, Alan Silvestri turned in a far better score than the movie deserved.

Still not sold on this movie. Will be better than Stallone's, but still will fall short to what Dredd movie could and should be.
-
ripoff
-
Since you probably never touch a Judge Dredd comic in your life, let me clarify to you. He's legal name is Joseph Dredd.
-
they all try to be stylish by using one words ''Edger'', ''Dredd'' etc. next we will have ''spider'', or ''bat''
-
My first thought too.
-
Those were the posters that they looked at when making this.

"September is a dumping ground for turkeys"... You're right; no good film has ever been released in September. Ever.
by sauchieboy
It would have been better if they'd put this low-budget film up against Prometheus, Batman and The Hobbit.
-
Ok negative scumbags. Gaze into the fist of truth. There has been not one - NOT ONE - negative mainstream or internet review of this yet. Most of the reviews aren't just good, they're stellar. Now I know most of you are uneducated fuckers regarding the history of the Dredd story, and that's fine. Sucks to be you but there you go. The simple fact is we've got a science fiction action drama coming out that has ludicrously good word on it, and you pieces of stomm are still bitching about heights of city blocks and oooh it looks like some other poster I saw once....fuck me. I'd cube the lot of ya. No parole. You don't deserve good films.

that tune from the trailer has made its way into my spotify playlist. I reckon it will do well enough. Karl Urban is solid, Dredd is a pull. the trailer ( after multiple viewings i now love it). I'd wager those who have seen the raid wont confuse the two (really? the raid, yes balls to the wall.. but story?!?) It will do well enough. I'm looking forward to this. the only fault, flogging the 3d dead horse.
-
has anyone in hollywood stopped to think what they are going to do once they run out of old movies to use to crank out horseshit remakes of? reimaginings of rehashes? oh i can't wait...

Dredd is clearly hundreds of feet tall.

"Maybe they should have given him bat ears"... y'all have seen posters and films more than ten years old, right?
by sauchieboy
Dark Knight invented nothing. If that poster communicates that Dredd is the kind of film that fans of Chris Nolan's films might like, it'll have done its job and it won't have lied either.
-
Aug. 2, 2012, 4:54 p.m. CST
"Ugh, get the fucking 3D off of it"... the film's being released in both 2D and 3D. Why would they NOT mention that on the poster?

This film is a brilliant action/sci-fi movie. haters get fucked! Fantastic poster too!

"has anyone in hollywood stopped to think what they are going to do once they run out of old movies"... this has nothing to do with the Stallone film, though ...
by sauchieboy
... different story, different cast and different production company. It's based on a comic with a 35 year publishing history. Apart from a lead character with the same name and being set in the same city, the two films have nothing in common. This film is no more a remake of the Stallone film than Farewell My Lovely was a remake of The Big Sleep.
-

I remain guardedly optimistic. Hell, it's got to be better than the previous version at the very least.

This looks like really early Dredd. Everything I've seen SCREAMS this. Ok the story might be slightly similar to The Raid (awesome film) but that's no reason to hate? Why don't we all take a breath, wait till the release and then 'judge'. After great reviews and word of mouth I hold high hopes. If it sucks, I'll take it back.

Looks JUST like the Daredevil movie poster.
-
Therein lies the difference.
-
A) It's the same as the teaser poster. A final poster isn't meant to promote the movie as "coming." B) The tagline will be pointless when the film is out. Wouldn't JUDGMENT IS HERE be a better tagline? Here is what I mean - altered tagline with UK spelling of judgement: http://www2.picturepush.com/photo/a/8883690/1024/various/Dredd-film-poster----new-tagline.jpg Seems more appropriate? I think so.

by LabattsBleu
too bad this wasn't the first film, as I think a lot of people will pass on going to this because of the bad taste that created by the Stallone film. sounds like this could be a nice little sleeper hit that will kill with its DVD/BluRay sales...Similar to the Chronicles of Riddick, which didn't do well at the theaters, but really found a strong following afterwards.
-
Aug. 2, 2012, 5:55 p.m. CST
Yeah..whatever happened to just leaving a film's title as is without trying to shorten it in order to make it sound "cooler" or be easier for kids to memorize? Are kids today THAT dumb?
by wcolbert
Judge Dredd becomes "Dredd"...Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles becomes "Ninja Turtles"...thank god for directors who refuse to dumb down the title of the movie to appeal to today's retards. Can you imagine Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the ring being shortened to 'the fellowship'? People would have no f#cking clue what it was about if the read the title. Yet I'll bet you there are some clowns who would do just that. A minor annoyance, granted, what really counts is the content of the film, but from a marketing perspective, it just makes no sense. Oh...and the whole trend of interchanging numbers and letters or whole words in sequels needs to stop. 2 Fast 2 Furious? Trans4mers? Seriously, in a generation when using "u r" to stand for "you are" is deemed acceptable communication practice and "lol" is used in place of a period, even when the person in no way is humored by anything or is laughing....THAT'S not helping matters. Every time I read comments on youtube videos I am SHOCKED by the inability of people to even spell simple, everyday words properly - did they even GO to school? Is it that difficult to spell "though" that you must use "tho"? Do people really not realize the difference between your and you're? FUCK, this society is screwed.

This is the final poster so you don't need to promote "coming"
by coolfan123
Judgment is here sounds more definite. It's the final poster so why not b edefinite about 'judgment' rather than stating it's coming. And once the movie is out the tagline is redundant. In years to come we'll look back on the poster and say "Hey, judgment is still coming!" :P If you forget the fact people responsible for this poster stole/copied the idea from Daredevil, it does have a nice Block Mania vibe. Sadly, this film will not capture the tone and scale of that classic Judge Dredd strip. Another thing is the lame title of the film. If you asked people with ZERO knowledge of 2000AD's Judge Dredd to come up with the most unimaginative title for a new Judge Dredd film, I guarantee you they would come up with: DREDD 3D It's so cliché and unimaginative. It's also a tad insulting to the source material. 2000AD doesn't feature a comic strip character called DREDD 3D. Sheesh, how about they respect the source material and start by getting the title RIGHT??? Sigh. For people like the DNA film producers to say they want to get this film right, they sure ruined the title! What a lame B movie title. Crappy!
-
Aug. 2, 2012, 6:01 p.m. CST
The producers of this film have such contempt for the source material...
by coolfan123
... they can't even be bothered to put the word JUDGE in the title. That sums up their regard for the character. Perhaps in the distant future some film production company will acquire the rights to Star Wars and remake episode 4 and call it WARS 3D. Can't wait. :P

Rob schneider was so fucking annoying; who in the bloody hell threw him into the mix? And yes, Sly should have kept that helmet on - that's the whole piont of the character. Still, it's fun in places; with a great cast - A sexy Diane Lane; a "Kabuki" Armand Assante, and the great Sydow. One of the films redeeming features is Alan Silvestri's powerful score - Give your speakers a symphonic bashing with that one! As for the Urban version: It looks like an improvement, but the "Matrix-style" slow-mo could be detrement to the pacing of the film. With Producer, Andrew Macdonald, and writer, John Hodge on the credits, this feels as though it could have been a Danny Boyle film. Oh, and enough with the 3D already: If i want to experience true three-dimensions, i will take my goggles, step out into the middle of a busy road, and watch the onslaught of oncoming traffic instead - I just want to watch the film for christs sake!
-
And this looks like it good be good. Reviews make it sound like a solid film. Bring it on.
-
Stop defending that abortion.
-
Looking forward to seeing it again.
-
I see you"ve raised your ugly trolling face again!. What's up? Run out gerbils to shove up your arse?
-
And I say this as a Cure fan.
-
... Garland- who wrote 28 Days Later- is a producer on this film too.
-
Hold me back!!
-
http://www3.picturepush.com/photo/a/8884541/img/various/Dredd-film-poster12.jpg The problem with this film is its lack of originality. Has anyone seen Robocop? Sure you have! At the beginning of the film Murphy and Lewis chase after a van. Have a guess what vehicle appears in Dredd at the SPOILER REMOVED? Yep, a 20th century van! Garland has no imagination. He took 16 drafts to do a Dark Judges screenplay and couldn't get it right. Sheesh, that's proof he has zero talent. This film will do poor or moderate business and it will be the best possible outcome because there's no way Garland has the imagination and passion to do a decent sequel storyline.

ROBOCOP was greatly inspired by Dredd so turnaround is fairplay

As a Brit-geek of a certain age Judge Dredd is as important to me as Star Wars. I'm so pleased about the positive buzz on this movie but I have one concern. The helmet is massive. Am I one of the few seeing this as a concern? Please be good Dredd film. Please be good.
-
The flying cars concept may work in the comics but I think they just wouldn't make sense at all on film. Judge Dredd is a Lawmaster riding Judge. If all a criminal has to do to escape him is jump in a flying car and fly away then this would take alot of the power away from the character. So I love this real world approach to the character that doesn't at all betray the look and spirit of the character. Also the idea of flying cars in the future was really popular in the 70s and the 80s and as the years have gone by we've seen we're no where near that type of technology so it just wouldn't make sense for the film and would look ridiculous. It seems that alot of things around us tend to still look the same- cars, buildings, vans etc but our technology like laptops and phones become more miniaturised and advanced. Also although Judge Dredd inspired it- Im getting sick of the Blade Runner look for futuristic cities. The look of this reminds me of the great sci-fi movies from the 70s like Escape From New York and I love that
-
Who didn't/doesn't?

...this is going to bomb. Turkey of the summer (right next to PROMETHEUS, the difference being that PROMETHEUS made good money despite being a turkey).

by Erik Radvon
August is my defacto shitty action movie theater going month. Not that I think this is going to be shitty, but you know what I mean...lowbrow/best with a couple beers kinda flicks. Judge Dredd is late September seems odd. Oscar-type stuff is already on the horizon at that point. I was really looking forward to seeing this in the heat of a lazy summer. Oh well.

"I.AM.THE.LAW."... Urban gives that line a very different kind of reading in the trailer ...

Look folks, this looks like as close to an authentic translation of the Judge Dredd character as we are ever likely to get. The Stallone film was a horrible Dredd film for a number of reasons. If your only experience of the character is that film you know nothing about it. The uniform looks spot on to me. You cannot have a movie with the massive eagle, shoulder pad and green knee-pads without making it camp. Since he's not a superhero you have to give him a uniform at least vaguely practical looking. The bike. Looks nothing like the comic but does look like something that could be used to chase and kill people. Without ripping off the bat-pod or having a CGI contraption they couldnt afford they probably couldnt do better. The Gun, has to be something that looks like a pistol a man could use. If they gave a big pulse rifle sized weapon people would hate that. The standard lawgiver from the comic again, just looks ridiculous anywhere but the page. Its not vintage flash gordon. Agreed, i'm a little disappointed in the city seen in the trailers. Seems to make a block war look like something we wont ever see. I'll live with that if everything else works. Most importantly, the character from the reviews sounds spot on. Urban looks like him, sounds like he's imagined to sound. It seems thay havent toned down the fascist side of the character. Thats good. You're not supposed to like him. He's not nice. Thats the point. He may save you from the monsters then give you 20 in a cube for puking on the sidewalk. You cheer him and feel uncomfortable for doing so. I want this to work so they can expand the world and bring in the more overtly fantastic aspects. Fatties, Boeing, Chopper, Cursed Earth, Monkey Criminals, Judge Death. Its all there waiting. You cant have that all at once in one movie and expect people outside the hardcore to understand it much less like it. My only real concern is that the black humor is missing, thats the special sauce that makes Dredd work. Its also the special sauce that Robocop stole in 1987 to great effect. Understand the character before you criticise. It doesn't look flawless, but it looks better then I expected to ever see outside of an animation.

In British English, the spelling judgment is correct when referring to a court's or judge's formal ruling, whereas the spelling judgement is used for other meanings.
