Titan Books And Aint It Cool News Want To Give You One Of Five Copies Of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Novelization!!

Our friends over at Titan Books are offering Aint It Cool readers a chance to snag one of (5) copies of Greg Cox's novelization of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, described thusly by Titan:
What do you have to do nab one of these?
** Sometime between the time you read this and 11:59 PM CST USA on Saturday August 4, send an e-mail to me via the link below. You can enter twice a day for each of the contest's five days ( = 10 entries total).
** Include your name and mailing address in this e-mail. The address is to expedite prize shipment only and will be summarily discarded once book recipients are chosen. No spam, no mailing lists, etc.
** I've already pre-selected ONE time of day between today (Tuesday) and Saturday (five days, one copy awarded per day). The person who e-mails me at (or closest to) this time will receive 1 (one) copy of the book. NOTE: I've been asked this before, so...for clarity...I'm using whatever time is stamped on the Yahoo mailing address established for this contest as the determiner. I'm in Central Time USA, so I guess that's a CST time stamp (?).
** CONTEST IS OPEN TO INTERNATIONAL READERS!!!
** In the subject line of your message, BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE HEADING: "Bane of my existence!" If this subject line is not included, I may not actually see your entry.
** Be sure to send from an ACTIVE (and frequently checked) E-MAIL ACCOUNT. If I try to reach you & my message bounces back? I'll trash your win and move on to the next closest winning contestant I can reach.
** The five recipients will be announced next week.
** Titan will have your addresses in by hand Monday morning August 6 & they've been kind enough to handle fulfillment in this contest.
** As a general FYI, you should know that...due to the number and frequency of entries...recipients in past contests were sometimes selected by matters of seconds. Literally.
So that's it! Best of luck, and thanks so much for participating!

so thats what that feels like...

It's a great read. By the way.. have you seen what the novelization of 'The Dark Knight' goes for on Amazon.com? WTF!?
-
Contests on this site that say they give out awards, but never do. Yes, Herc, I'm talking to you...
-
... over the fact that a bunch of buildings didn't explode and form the Bat symbol anywhere in the actual film like they did in the poster (or the cover of the novelization above), like he stated in his review, or did he at least get over that one?

What's with pushing Batman Products? Didn't you guys hated the movie?
by mistergreen
-
Oh look this book is written by Greg Cox, brother of Brian Cox from ALIEN! Right Harry? ps. Maybe the novelization has Man-Bat in it as well as Batman, just for Harry.
-
Does the novel explain why Matthew Modines character with an apparent IQ of 3 somehow became chief of police?

Asking for the mailing address MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. You only ask once somebody wins. THAT'S IT. No other time. Fuck you.

Unless of course, you are selling our address to affiliates in order to completely screw us over... well, then that's perfectly alright.

Its really just the script of the movie in novel form. Nearly every line of dialogue is verbatim from the movie. You're not missing anything if you've already seen the film.
-
I know what you mean, he was operating at Eric Cartman levels...
-
That one gets applause :)
-
The worst of the worst were sent here, except for the Joker, who, rumor had it, was locked away as Arkham's sole remaining inmate. Or perhaps he escaped. Nobody was really sure. Not even Selina.

Was Harry profoundly disappointed by this novelization as well?
by Mr. Pricklepants
-
...the pages didn't rise up in a pop-up-book version of the buildings outlining the bat symbol in the sky.
-
Jul 31, 2012 12:51:05 PM CDT Harry hated the novelisation because... by scratchmonkey ...the pages didn't rise up in a pop-up-book version of the buildings outlining the bat symbol in the sky. I bought my son the giant DC Universe Pop Up Edition book and the center piece is a pop up of Gotham, with Batman and Robin and an LCD Batman Symbol that is suprisingly bright. Maybe we should send one to Harry.

What are the odds that Harry has wiped his dirty fat ass all over the pages in protest.

When I was growing up I found myself orphaned at an early age. Fortunately I found myself in the care of a doctor. This doctor worked in these very walls that I now find myself in. You see, this doctor worked in behaviour modification. Each day after work he would ask me how my day was. With the ever present memory of my recently deceased parents I would tell him...sad. He would take me to the basement and attatch electrodes to my head. He would light me up like a christmas tree until I told him I was happy. But I had tears I would get zapped again for lying. Finally I got fed up with the questions and the lies. I decided to do something permanent about it. I decided to make a smile that would never, ever, be percieved as a lie again.

Want to hear a review of TDKR by two guys disappointed with the movie
by jim
but who are able to articulate why? http://tinyurl.com/cpgadqb

sure, it says so on the page, and they say so early on, but I'd thought I'd throw out the warning anyway just to be triple-sure no one who hasn't seen it yet will listen (unless they want to be spoiled but haven't been yet).

I'll buy the novelization if it explains why Batman lied about the autopilot
by Al
Who the hell was he trying to keep it a secret from, the audience?!
-
You got the part about Bruce Wayne/Batman just wanting a normal life right? He wanted everyone to think he was dead.
-
you can find it on MTV's site here http://www.mtv.com/videos/misc/820585/exclusive-batman-the-dark-knight-returns-part-1-trailer.jhtml?xrs=playershare_fb

Made everybody feel sad. Alfred probably had to pay for the funeral. Only reason I can see for it would be to dodge taxes.
-
July 31, 2012, 3:30 p.m. CST
Why, because Morgan Freeman keeps MAKING him be Batman?
by Domi'sInnerChild
He could have quit any time he wanted. He even left clues and showed himself to Alfred afterwards. Total dick move.
-
The last scene felt very Inception-y to me. Alfred said he imagined seeing Bruce in that same scenario in the beginning. Was he doing that again perhaps out of grief?
-
July 31, 2012, 4:11 p.m. CST
No, no, no. Alfred died while dreaming about Batman being alive
by Domi'sInnerChild
Batman actually died of infection while in the grimy prison with a broken back. All the stuff with a big timer on the bomb, Gordon rolling around inside trucks, cops stuck in the sewers, Robin running around, etc. was just Afred loaded.
-
July 31, 2012, 4:32 p.m. CST
Alfred had Alzheimer's. So, the ending was all dementia induced delusion.
by SergeantStedenko
I thought that everyone understood that based on the way he was acting throughout the whole movie. Crying like a pussy, abandoning Bruce and such. The Alfred I know and love never acted like that.
-
Selina isn't at the funeral. Blake gets the info for the batcave. Bat signal mysteriously fixed. Missing pearl necklace. And, of course, the most obvious evidence of all: the auto pilot has been fixed by Bruce Wayne. Even if we DIDN'T see him alive and well with Selina in the end, it would be clear that he's alive.
-
July 31, 2012, 4:56 p.m. CST
I'd buy that. It's like Alien 3, second half of the movie is all just a dream
by Domi'sInnerChild
They just cut Alfred waking up in the old folks home like they cut Ripley waking up with the surgical scars.
-

Also, Alfred clearly tells him where that cafe is, and that he goes there when on holiday
by Mattman
It wouldn't be hard for Bruce to plan to be there at the same time, as long as he knows Alfred is on holiday in Italy (which, considering the money/resources Bruce probably had stashed away, wouldn't be too hard).
-
He's faking his death, martyring Batman. He knows what a powerful example that will set. Although it is kinda funny he didn't whisper to Selina, "Hey, don't worry, autopilot fixed, I'll catch up with you later." Later on, she must have been pretty pissed at him for making her think he was dead. Of course, presenting her with that necklace probably helped.
-
July 31, 2012, 5:20 p.m. CST
Another method, "Hey guys, tell them I blew up with Bat. Catch you for beers at the mansion later"
by Domi'sInnerChild
He had no motivation to fake his death to a small group of friends with the autopilot line.
-
July 31, 2012, 5:51 p.m. CST
domi'sinnerchild... true, but I guess he figured the less who know, the better
by Mattman
And maybe he doesn't want people lying for him anymore... especially Gordon. Ya know?
-
July 31, 2012, 7:11 p.m. CST
The whole unnecessary death faking thing was just one tiny hole...
by Stifler's Mom
in a movie full of them. Just one huge gap of logic after another. This novelization should be printed on slices of Swiss cheese.
-
think it's odd the site didn't set one up. anyway I though it sucked, I LOVE nolans #2 so I'll always have that.

Does Batman fake his own death and run off with Catwoman after she kills Bane? Is Miranda still Talia?
by Queefer Sutherland
Are there any differences from the stupid movie?
-
I'd love to present Catwoman with a pearl necklace ;)
-
Lotta symbolism in this movie ;)

Catwoman blasting big strong Bane like he's nothing makes insecure dudes very uncomfortable
by Mattman
Which is why it's awesome.
-
Maybe I'll check back around Hobbit times.
-
Aug. 1, 2012, 2:14 a.m. CST
Yeah, cuz it's exceptionally clear in the movie that Batman wants to fake his own death to his closest compatriots
by Al
Which is why he lies about the autopilot repeatedly for no reason at all. Smart script!

No thanks. I'll just save up my allowance and wait for the next Scholastic book order in my Grade 6 class.

Banes voice=Darth Vader by way of Christopher Lloyd with a dash of Connery
by Samuel Fulmer
Kind of silly. Still loved the movie, but man, Bane's voice was just too much.
-
I remember how excited I would get when that box full of Scholastic book orders would sit all day on the teacher's desk, only to be passed out at the very end. I couldn't concentrate on anything but that damn box. As for the movie, I thought the first hour built things up nicely, right through the fight in the sewers. After that it completely lost focus. More attention and detail should have been paid to Wayne and his exile. The idea of Wayne/Batman losing his touch is a good one in theory, but in execution it takes the audience right out of the story when he's not the center of the story. And if they wanted to make it a Gotham story/movie, that's fair, but give Gotham the attention it deserves. Intercutting empty NY, LA, and PB locales randomly is just plain lazy. Many of the points Harry pointed out in his review I really couldn't argue with.
-
BTW, I'm Bruce Wayne not some random dude you've been trusting. Now I'm going to go kill myself so it'll be even extra sad. I know you have issueing lying which almost got Gotham detroyed and is why I'm killing myself right now (WINK WINK), but for christsakes TRY not to spill the beans on this for once when you unveil the statue for birds to poop on. Try not to drink and cheet on your wife. I'm out.
-
Bane frees all of Gotham's prisoners, but no sign of The Joker...You would think Bane would want to free Gotham's most famous criminal.
-
the novelization is nothing but an exact prose version of the film script. No extra/more thorough info or surprises to be found.
-
i remember, however many years ago, reading the novelization of Lethal Weapon. the book contained a class scene where Riggs is involved in a shoot out at a school. i was confused as to why that didn't feature in the film, was delighted when it surfaced in the "director's cut / special edition" disc.
