Updated With More Secret Casting And More Alexa Vega!! Robert Rodriguez Is Using Lady Gaga In MACHETE KILLS!!
The Kidd here...
The Little Monsters will be pleased.
In some rather bizarre yet unique casting, Robert Rodriguez took to his Twitter today to announce that he just finished working with none other than Lady Gaga on MACHETE KILLS.
Oh, she must be providing some music for the soundtrack, right?
Nope.
Lady Gaga is taking on the role of La Chameleón, and, according to Rodriguez, "she kicked SO MUCH ASS!"

I thought this might have been a joke posted by Rodriguez and someone having some fun with Photoshop, but my sources tell me that this is the real deal, and I've got to say I'm rather intrigued.
I've been hearing for quite some time that MACHETE KILLS is trully off-the-wall and way crazier (in a good way) than the first film, and adding Lady Gaga to the cast may have just confirmed that. What type of insanity does Robert Rodriguez have up his sleeve this time out now that Lady Gaga is in the mix?
Rodriguez is also using SPY KIDS alum Alexa Vega, all grown up, for a character named KillJoy. Interesting...
UPDATE: Thanks to Alexa Vega's Instagram, we have a good (and I mean REALLY good) look at her in character.

UPDATE: Lady Gaga and Alexa Vega are apparently just the tip of the iceberg, because as soon as this story went up, I heard from one of my sources who's been lying low as of late that they're not the only surprise cast members hitting the set of MACHETE KILLS. I've got it on good authority that Cuba Gooding Jr. is also a part of MACHETE KILLS. Who he plays at this point is still a bit of a secret, but I'll take at least being able to pull this information about from its spot close to the vest. Now SHOW ME THE CHARACTER POSTER!!! (See what I did there?)

She's only the best thing in music!

Yeah, me neither.

that guy hates gaga and what she represents i wanna promote a cage match
-
Not to sound creepy but she grew up, she filled out. Don't care for this Gaga bullshit stunt casting. Not enough to keep me away but what a gimmick. Lets get people from various demographics to go see this movie that they normally wouldn't see. In his next project....I Spit on La Migra....he will get A) Former badass needing a badass role to reboot his career...Al Pacino. B) Former badass who's fallen off the map...Cynthia Rothrock. C) Cheech Marin, the lucky charm. D)Various RR alumni...George Clooney, Elijah Wood, Selma Hayek, ect. E) Someone risque....Kramer from Seinfeld. F)Somone trendy....Daniel Tosh. G)His nieghbor, niece, son, dentist, ect.
-
just wow
-
And there was nary an indication that she would be on-set today. Word also leaked that someone else un-announced is in the cast. Rodriguez is REALLY going all-out on this. I saw some stuff both on set and on a laptop screen that I can't talk about. Everything made this feel like a big improvement on the first, which I thought was okay, but didn't light me on fire.
-
...Lady Gaga is packing a serious amount of "rosbif" - is that true? I like a bit of rosbif, up to a point, but not when it looks like you've got a turkey wattle hanging between your legs because that shit's just nasty.

As far as Roberto, his major problem (for me) is ACTING and PACING
by Monroville
He is extremely talented when it comes to the technical details, and his overall stories are entertaining. The problem is the acting (which, short of Antonio and Selma, is universally horrendous in just how bored everyone seems to be with what they're doing) and the editing... his films tend to drag and meander with no sense of timing. The best he's been when it comes to editing/timing is DESPERADO and ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO (and that may have had a lot to do with Depp being a major character).

Oh god. Just when I really didn't need any more awkward wanking fodder. I mean Emma Watson is bad enough. And now this one's got jugs. Big, wobbly, juicy jugs that no doubt shake and jiggle from side to side, like two plates of blancmange in an earthquake, with every little movement she makes. All the time. FUCK.

No, I haven't read the Machete Kills script, so yes there is a chance it will be the Taxi Driver of the new millennium. But take out the "look, famous person!" factor, and you just have another cheeseball neo-duster. For a guy who hangs with Tarantino, Rodriguez sure does stay inside his comfort zone. Never seen the Spy Kids movies, but every other movie is interchangeable.

I love the guys saying shit like: "I hate Gaga that..." Why do you even care? People who care that much about popstars are way more pathetic than their fans. Seriously if you for some reason pay enough attention to Gaga to flip shit when she's put in something your life must fucking suck... To those bringing up race... Go start that shit on a Tea Party blog because you can't do that here. Also actually watch Machete and you'll see how fucking stupid you are. That movie had nothing racist about it. is getting a lot of folks way too upset. Scapegoating, or are many of you actually so quick to refuse watching a potentially enjoyable film simply because of one person's involvement?
-
That Spy Kids kid isn't a kid. She's *all grow'd up* as they say in the park.
-
....Gary Oldman, got it half right...or half wrong....depending on how one sees it, recently when he said - 'sports' stars should stay out of films'....what he meant was....'POP stars should stay out of films'....i.e Timberlake, Rihanna, and now, GaGa....why? Especially, in the case of Timberlake...is or 'are' they so absorbed with 'fame greed / monopolisation', that they wish to take opportunities, which could be given to MORE talented, aspiring actors who have been 'trying' for years, but, who are 'usurped' by those who are so interested in self-aggrandisement, that they forget 'others'....it is PATHETIC...and NO, I'm NOT an aspiring actor...I just believe in 'fair's fair'...those with logic will agree....end of. (And fyg, I actually mildly enjoy the aforementioneds' music, when the mood takes me, especially the most latter).
-
Let's be honest about it...Robert Rodriguez does have some talent, but with the greatest of respect to Danny Trejo, he is NOT a lead actor...never has been, never was....he should have left it, as a nice 'nudge-nudge-wink-wink pseudo-trailer' within Grindhouse....otherwise, Trejo is best in bit-parts like Heat, 'Dusk', Predators etc....and Machete, was at best, average...Planet Terror was baaaad.....he needs to be less Mexican-centric....Rodriguez has to be v v careful, because, he owes people a DECENT movie after so many average ones....
-
That movie was a Mexploitation film. Did you honestly expect it to NOT go over-the-top? Seriously? That was part of the fun, when it went just ONE step further than you expected it to. If you identified with the comically villified whites in the movie, that sounds like a personal problem. Besides, Southern California could probably do well with even more Mexican immigrants. I never felt safer there than when I was the only white family in 3 blocks living on the other side of the 10 freeway in Pomona. Even though I was warned not to move there. I used to take my kid for a walk every afternoon, sometimes in the early evening. I never felt unsafe, threatened, harassed. EVER. I helped one of my neighbors there apply for jobs and his wife would cook dinners for me and my wife and kid every few days after. This went on until we moved out. One of my other neighbors chased off a peeping tom that was looking into my bathroom window. I was invited to every party in the neighborhood, always felt welcomed and embraced and never felt left out of anything there. I met more of my neighbors there than I have my entire life in other places. Here in the predominantly white neighborhood where I live now I've had crap thrown at me 3 times from cars while jogging, been menaced by loose pit bulls, am constantly BEYOND disturbed by ... not kids... but guys in their 30s-40s blasting bass so loud the walls shake. And I don't mean I'm one of those people who complain JUST because I could hear someone else's music. I don't do that, and generally hate those people. Hearing something is not being disturbed by it. There's a difference. If I hear it for 10 seconds.. whatever. Who cares? But ALL FRIGGEN NIGHT?? Back and forth??? In a residential neighborhood, over and over and over all night? I'm surprised no-one has shot at them. I never feel safe walking at night anymore because of how bad it can be during the day. I can't wait to move. People love to blame immigration, illegal or otherwise, for what ails our country right now. But your own disrespect for the educational system, your thuggish, neolithic attempts at taking us back to what you blindly view as *a more innocent time* like the 50s when good men could get away with whatever they wanted and everyone clammed up *real good*, and your willingness to consider things like corporate *personhood* and wildly unfair taxation couldn't have ANYTHING to do with it. Could it? I think our country could use a few more people like the ones I met in SoCal. And a few less of the wannabe white gangsta trash in my area. If you want to talk about race. If you don't, then I would say you could do better worrying about how your tea party teabagger politicians are making sure that the rich write off everything they pay for or own while the rest of us pay out the ass in taxes and end up paying 3/4 of our income toward rent or mortgages (it was NEVER like this before.... EVER!! Period) while the economy collapses along with the middle and lower class consumer base. Rent control wasn't just regulation. It was helping to hold up the teetering economy. And no-one will address it, not even the so-called *occupy* movement. They don't need to be occupying parks and city centers. They need to be occupying abandoned properties and refusing to leave until it's possible to pay a fair price for a home somewhere other than the deserts of Nevada. I'm way off subject, but that shit pisses me off. That movie was NOT racist. CALLING it racist is racist. And as overly sensitive as you blame the politically correct of being.
-
I think you make a pretty good point there. And I too enjoy me some GaGa from time to time for SOME reason. Do you think some of them turn to acting because music can't make them millionaires anymore? Not sure I fully think that's true, just wondering what you think about it.
-
Hey dude, how goes it, mate? Hope you're doing good. Cheers, for the response....my opinion?...I truly think it is (sadly) self-absorption, and 'fame greed'...I mean, let's have an analysis....GaGa is doing consistently well, musically, in terms of sales...thus, doesn't need to do 'this'....both of Timberlake's solo albums sold well (albeit he IS the weakest link of the three) - and I could <hypothetically> imagine he feels the vain need to 'compete' with his Missus Jess Biel....Rihanna makes an album every year, on average...doesn't need to do it either...tbh, maybe I am being slightly unfair...the blame should lie with the 'casting people' of certain movies, as well as the directors, and then the 'pop' stars who agree to appear in these movies.....to conclude, the 'one' that really irks me the most is Timberlake....he was actually okay in Alpha Dog, but he is just himself in every film since, and should just stop. I appreciate I can come across as overly-opinionated to people, but I just 'think' of actors one sees in various TV series (for example), who you see many times - never know their (real) names, but always think - 'you know, they're consistently good at what they do...yet they never make it into movies...'...not fair. I have seen damn good ones in The Wire, Breaking Bad...to Arrested Development...to even, ultra mainstream stuff like 24, Weeds..even say 'Coach' in Friday Night Lights...I just want to see actors, not pop stars, getting 'easy entry' into films...just because they're already famous/reknown....

As long as news about this production keeps getting posted, I'm going to keep saying it: the script was bad. And the constant, incessant barrage of bullshit celebreality stunt casting "news" that keeps coming out of this production just supports my belief that newer drafts have NOT improved the writing.
-
Machete was an amazing bit of comedic cultural critique AT MOST. Propo-WHAT?
-
And I think Rodriguez is Tarantino's whore and that his films suck dick. People can call Machete rascist or not-rascist, "Mexploitation" or high art, and I could not attest to know if either statement is true because I refuse to see his piece-of-shit films. I stopped watching a looonnngg time ago, you know, like back after he made those shitty kids movies, and over-indulgent "geek" films with Tarantino that were really just sloppy, pointless, narcissistic, and (most importantly) unwatchable wastes of celluloid. At least Tarantino will occasionally redeem himself because he has real talent, but Rodriguez keeps churning out the same pathetic drivel year after year. There is a point when people need to transcend this need to support a no-talent hack because they share the same heritage. There are lots of directors whose work deserves to be seen, but Rodriguez is not one of them.
-
Seriously, he has lost what made him great. He goes for gimmicks now. Sin City, green-screen computer aided crap. Machette, deliberately shitty 70's looking drive-in cheese. It's all gloss now, no substance. Go back and watch El Mariachi again, and see what he did with no money, barely any special effects, and friends playing most of the roles. It was and still is one of the greatest action movies ever made. He did it with good writing, and great direction. Desperado still had the writing and this time more talented actors, and again, home run. Then he slacked off. Spy kids is shitty. Sorry, it is. Of all the great kids flicks, Spy Kids isn't one of them. Sharkboy and Lava-girl? He let his kid write that one. And it shows! Both those flicks are the same glossy special effects shit-tastic films he's been making lately. Yet, his short film in "Four Rooms" with the kids and the dead hooker in the mattress is awesome! Take the big budgets, special effects, and retro-drive-in crap away from him, force him to be creative in writing and direction again, and he'll be great. Untill then, he makes stuff like Predators, and we all remember how that turned out.
-
Adding her to Machete Kills is a stroke of genius. I like her a lot and I am convinced she will kick major ass in this movie.

It's also a talent that should transcend her youth, not unlike Bowie, Elton or Madonna. When the shock and glitter of youth fade, she'll hopefully be around for the long haul as a competent songstress or who knows actress? Only time will tell.

Lame. This should go straight to DVD.

Basicly get a bunch of A-listers and have them all do overextended cameos. Based on the genre of movie he makes, this so works. I think he first figured this out doing Sin City. Can't wait for that sequel.

The poster is showing her shape-changing into a wolf. It's clearly some kind of pro-werebitch immigration agenda Rodriguez subscribes to, if you're a nut.

A set visit doesn't buy a positive review. The only time I'm an easy lay is when my wife gets home. I thought the first one was okay, but like I think I said above, it didn't light me on fire. by openthepodbaydoorshal
And Rodriguez has become Tarantino with a lobotomy...a film geek thats been drooped on his head one time too many.
-
Is the title. It had already convinced me to stay away. Which means I can't honestly say, however much I'd like to, that Gaga's involvement is what's put me off it.
-
Count me out. The first part was one big letdown already...

And I would have bet the farm Lava Girl would end up the naughty kitten of the two

Maybe she's the stunt casting? R.R. should remake Lady Killers (horrible 80's all woman assault team) with all hit go to actresses (Salma, Alba, Gugino, etc.).
-
...my boner. Alexa Vega brings it back to life.
-
I'm not a fan of the music of Ms Gaga, but she's a talented woman. And she does over-the-top really well, which is what RR movies are all about.
-
Just wanted to congratulate you on all those brilliant changes you've introduced to AICN - man alive, you sure have kept to all of those promises you made back in February - its almost like this is a totally different site to the shit one I gave up visiting a few months ago. Good job I came back to read AICN's collective take on TDKR otherwise I'd have missed all these incredible improvements you've made. I mean, you have turned AICN around from being a sinking ship to a sleek luxury cruise-liner! Heck even your boss Harry has turned from being a slack-jawed yokel into an great film critic who writes with authority on his chosen subject matter. Great job mate, well done.

ARE YOU FUCKING NUTS??? what about this movie is racist? don't tell me you're one of those piece of shit tea party mother fuckers that thinks you're losing your country. if anything the film is anti-racist, the same way SWEETBACK'S BADASSSSS SONG was

She really went all silicones on us. Even young she seemed pretty vain and artificial. She must love the idea of becoming a bimbo.
-
Has anyone seen the picture she posted on Twitter where she's supposedly naked in a chair? I can't tell if she's got some skimpy pants on or if she's actually flashing one of her gammon flaps. Either way it's certainly not fap material.
-
He hasn't made a decent movie since... i don't even now. He must really throw good parties.
-
Wait, there are still music videos?

A Rodriguez film + a bottle of whiskey = a great night at the cinema, always. Full faith in entertainment value, if not always in quality.

Why is it gay to not like Lady Gaga? Would you say the same if people were complaining about Kim Kardasian being cast? Or Katie Perry? Or Madonna? How about Justin Bieber?
-
uh, is that a good or bad thing?
-
Of an AICN troll: What, <insert film here> is popular now? I hate it, it's garbage, <insert director> turned to shit after his third film, wah wah wah I wanna be a hipster. Oh, they cast <insert popular crossover star here> in it? He/she sucks, no talent, sellout, I won't watch it, it's gay! Yeah. STFU the lot of you. I'm no fan of Lady Gaga, but I also think Lindsay Lohan is a fucking trainwreck sideshow, but she worked in Machete exactly BECAUSE of that. Tom Hardy was hyped to fuck as Bane, and I thought he was only average. Meanwhile no one thought Heather Ledger would make a great joker... In other words - wait til you see the performance before fucking judging it. I've got enough faith in RR after the first one when it comes to quirky casting. De Niro, Don Johnson, Lohan, Cheech Marin, they all worked.
-
My Insert Film Name etc. lines were parsed and removed by the site thinking they were html. Damn.
-
Rodriguez is a hack. His movies blow. Big fucking deal. This movie will make nothing at the Box office... as did all of his movies except for the Spy Kids tripe.
-
Although how can you top swinging through hospital windows on a lower intestine? I think Machete would also work as a series of short films done by different directors with Machete in different scenarios in each film.
