UPDATED WITH GLORIOUS HD!! Behold The Stunning 5 Minute International Trailer For CLOUD ATLAS, From Tykwer & the Wachowskis!!
HD versions are now HERE at Apple, along with a fun reel offering insight from directors Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer...
A beautiful five minute International trailer for CLOUD ATLAS has found its way to The Net via FirstShowing, Mtime, and JoBlo.
Say what you will about the Wachowskis - this is one of the damnedest spots I've seen in some time, and has effectively shifted my interest in the project from interested-but-ambivalent to wholly curious and tremendously excited. Want. More. Now.
Based on a novel by David Mitchell, CLOUD ATLAS is due in theaters late October.
We should be getting an officialer, HD version of this 'round midday via iTunes.

Why is Terrence Malick directing so many films these days?
by thefastestprofessoralive
First Man of Steel and now Cloud Atlas!
-
I loved how all the stories came to life from the book (and were instantly recognizable), but god help me if that sub-Terrence Malick Hallmark narration accompanied by tinkling piano or Ladysmith Black Mambazo pervades the whole fucking film.
-
This looks crazy. Love a lot of the people involved but could be very confused. I'm getting a 2046 meets THE FOUNTAIN vibe...
-
It's like i just watched a trailer made up of trailers from three or four different films. Deeply confusing. I don't know if i'm excited for this or not. The Wachowskis can get a bit too philosophical (i.e. Matrix Revolutions) and this seems pretty heavy handed but what a beautiful talented line up! Paint me curious!
-
Wait! Don't go yet! Look this is all awesome! See?! There and that! Wait! I'll show more! Please watch our movie! I used to have a penis!
-
Aranofsky's "The Fountain", but on a much larger scale. We will see....
-
Yeah why do I want to watch the entire movie in condensed form. I'd rather just wait to check out the critical consensus and then download at some point. It looks too pretentious to sit through at the theater for sure.

but it sure looks purdy. Looking forward to seeing Hugh grant as a futuristic cannibal barbarian.
-
I really had no desire to see it, but that at least has me a bit intrigued. But it does make me a little leery, even though they're promoting connection. I see a very convoluted disconnected story potential there. It definitely looks it's swinging for the fences in regards to hitting an epic.
-
People who read it aren't allowed to answer. Recognizing a plot you already know isn't different than gleaning a plot from that.

10 minutes of a pompous, overstuffed, new-agey dialouge...

I've never heard of the book before the movie news bits, but this looks FASCINATING. I especially enjoy the Korea bits.
-
tomorrow it will still suck.
-
This is going to be a hard sell. Looks more like Tykwer in the first part, then the Wachowski's in the second. It's funny how they keep the Wachowski's apart as single credits, rather than The Wachowski's. Not sure about this one, but will probably give it a try. Any film which shows Hugh Grant playing against type as a serial rapist gets my full attention.
-
'Lana' = Larry.
-
Yeah I said it
-
Thanks, I just googled it. I never knew about this. Well, no comment on that subject. But the movie looks epic & beautiful. With 165 minutes running time, 3 directors it's their biggest project yet.
-
Trailer looks like a commercial for people with ADD. Read about the book here: http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Atlas-Novel-David-Mitchell/dp/0375507256/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343311680&sr=8-1&keywords=cloud+atlas

The guy in the top hat makes me think I've wandered into the trailer for OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL
by Yotz Von Frelnik
Awesome looking movie though! God, I hope it's as profound as it seems. I hate it when something comes up that looks like it's going to be revelatory and ends up lame.
-
'Lana' 8==D Larry minus the 8==D
-
I completely agree. I'll pass on this one.
-
The premise intrigues me, plus I like The Matrix Trilogy and Bound, so I gotta see what those Wachowskis are up to. Tom Tykwer is awesome as well. Run Lola Run, The Princess and the Warrior, and Perfume were all excellent. Darn it, I still need to see The International. It is also fun to see Hanks getting into some big sci-fi/epic stuff. He did that science fiction web series, and now he's in a big crazy epic and ambitious film that spans a large timescale, and appears to be playing a scientist type. I don't know if most of you guys were aware, but Hanks also wanted to adapt Arthur C. Clarke's novel 3001. Tom Hanks should team up with Morgan Freeman and get that Rendezvous With Rama movie going.

Folks comparing this trailer and the Sooperman teaser to Terrence Malick are insulting Malick and overall sound ignorant.
-
Amazing book, I really loved it. It's very "literary", not at all "mainstream" or "beach read page turner" which parts of this trailer seem to feel like. I mean, all that stuff is in the book, but the tone of this trailer isn't really what I remember feeling as I read the book, even the futuristic action-y parts...that said, this movie looks fantastic and I really can't wait for it...most of you douchey kids, however, wouldn't be able to make it past the first section of this book. It has big words.
-

-
because it's a story within a story within a story, etc., etc. A friend told me the first part which is set in the earliest time turns out to be a story read by someone in the second part which is actually a story being written by someone in the third part, and so on and so on. And every time it shifts forward in time from the past to the present to the future. And then to end, it somehow reverses backwards through the levels of stories to tie up all the narratives and then ends.
-
'The Cell', 'Matrix Reloaded' trailers are two that come into mind. However, 'The Fall' trailer looked great and the movie was great too! Definitely the trailer is intriguing. I hope the movie lives up to what the trailer promises.
-
There's not many movies where you could watch 5 minute trailer for and still have no idea what's going on

As opposed to the book, where half of each story was told before being interrupted, and then finished later on, this looks like it'll be edited so the stories switch back and forth to accentuate the parallels in the narrative.

Very impressive, but only watch it if you want to see about a dozen reveals
by kevred
Really, this style of trailer where they rapid-fire dozens of shots of completely different scenes in quick succession, giving you no choice to see more than you want to see, is getting annoying. You don't get a sense of the overall plot, but you get the "wow" moments of about a dozen scenes - unexpected things happening, "what do they do next?" moments spoiled, major things happening to major characters... It's exciting, but the problem is, it's stealing that excitement from the film. It's pillaging the emotional power of things that should be special moments in the film and piling them up in a desperate effort to grab attention. It's like someone proposing to you with a diamond ring and string quartet on your first date. You don't want all the magic moments dumped in your lap without the right context before you've even gotten to know the story! Old trailers seem slow and clunky in comparison, but I'll take that any time over this show-as-much-as-possible route.
-
"Say what you will about the Watchowskis..." Ok, well here goes.... Other than making an incredibly brilliant film at the end of the 20th Century...that being "The Matrix"...the Watchowskis have had a horrifically bad and utterly disappointing film making career! Both Matrix film sequels were wretchedly bad, so much so that not even Monica Berlucchi in all her Italian Goddess hotness could redeem the films...in fact I was hoping the Watchowski Brothers would make a 4th Matrix film and call it "Matrix IV: The Refund and we (The Watchowski Brothers) are sorry to you the fans of the first Matrix film for ripping you off and disappointing you so badly" Then the Watchowskis followed up with the "Speed Racer" live action film...visually, it was a stunning piece of work...but the film was not that good...still..it was better than the two Matrix sequels!! As far as this 5 minute long trailer is concerned and the trepidation I have about ever seeing another Watchowski film in the theater? And as with so many films that get released now a days where the trailers sucker you into thinking "Whoa! I want to check this one out" only to end up getting ripped off by a shitty film when you see it in the Theater and shell out $9...it seems to me that all the best parts of "Cloud Atlas" are in this trailer and that the rest of the film is going to be one long epic and major failure.
-
Also, The Fountain was a steaming pile of shit. I was all excited about it after reading raves on this site. I want my two hours back.
-
nice. can't wait to see it.
-
What the hell was that I just watched? I tried to stop watching the trailer so it wouldn't spoil the movie but I couldn't. 3/4 of the way through, the trailer it had me crying. What sort of wizardry is this?
-
Do you people even watch films, or do you just jump on the first bandwagon that passes on by?
-
This is more watchable than a Malick flick. Have you seen Tree of Life? wtf was that shit. And this Cloud Atlas is complete shit. But again, more watchable than Malick.
-
I get the feeling that the narrative structure of the film is designed solely to serve itself, much like how The English Patient was essentially one big circle. I don't see how passing a story down from one time period to another could be interesting for too long, and I have to believe this film would have to be nearly 3 hours long to adequately cover each time period it touches. Strikes me as another style over substance concept.
-
are just that, dipshits. I've read the book twice and I can tell you that there is VERY LITTLE of the MANY plots (a separate plot for each time period) evident in this 5 min trailer. It's got a lot of the theme in it, but almost no plot; learn the difference.
-
I think I'm leaning towards the boring right now but that's only because the trailer was so long and I was bored!
-
...when I learned that David Mitchell's book would be adapted into a film with Tom Hanks. Amazing trailer though, very much looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
-
I'm not really getting the comparisons to his films at all. This looks like it's own thing. And for that I am very very excited for it. Also, using M83 music = awesome.

Superman did indeed look very Malickian. This film on the other hand doesn't at all. If anything, this one would be more akin to Darren Aronofsky

God I loathe, hate, absolutely despise that mind numbling boring, beyond stupid, nerve grating, and non-sensical movie that was The Fountain. Yes, I've seen The Tree of Life. What does that have to do with my comment? If you think this looks like TTOL or any other Malick film you need a new pair of eyes, my friend.
-
...the comedic old-age make-up in 'J. Edgar' is still finding occasional employment. More movies could do with the unintentional hilarity it inspires. And what's up with Jim Sturgess and funny little wispy moustaches? He always seems to be wearing some fake bumfluff whenever I see him in anything.

But seeing how LoTR made billions it shouldn't be a suprise they'll keep trying to milk that horse. Watch if this makes money I'm sure we'll get Cloud Atlas 2 LOL.

wcwlkr, nah I suspect the Wachowski's are done making sequels for a while.
by RedJester
After all, the first two didn't work out particularly well for them...
-
... this looks incredible. Gave me goosebumps actually. The book is very good and worth giving a shot before October. On the first read through, it's challenging, frustrating, dry in parts, and perhaps a little unsatisfying because of how it is structured (which I won't spoil, that alone is part of the genius of it) because there isn't a real climax or "ah ha!" moment that neatly ties everything together. On the second read you can really appreciate how good it actually is, because you can really immerse yourself in the "voice" of each character, and you can understand the way things weave together better. I keep going back to it on my e-reader to read a passage here and there. It looks like they have really punched up the action in the Sonmi (future Korea) story, which is fine. It's great in the book, but I have no problem with pumping it up. While I understand why some might compare this to the Fountain based on what is shown here, the two stories have very little in common.

Pacific Rim will stomp this dull self indulgent crap into dust....
by cameron
Gone are the heady days of 1999 when we marveled at The Matrix, the Wachorski's are just more 'coulda been great' with Bryan Singer and M Night Shamalamadingdong. after reading Cloud Atlas and Life of Pi i'll take Ang Lee's movie over this - hopefully Ang will smooth out the crap ending of the book. after being disappointed by the crud this year - john carter, avengers, prometheus, tdkr - after so much hype bring on THE HOBBIT!!!!!!! some minty fresh toothpaste to wash away the bad taste of over hyped bloated superdooperheros. I'm just waiting for Pacific Rim and Godzilla in 2014, excuse my freedom but, FUCK THE REST.

I just hope they actually use some of David Mitchell's language. His imagery and adjective/noun combinations are brilliant and is what makes his novels so consistently beautiful to read.
-
Beautiful, well-intended disasters. I'm getting the same vibe from this, but I'll keep an open mind. The visuals are rather striking; sometimes we all forget that there's more to film than the goddamn script.

So... Brazil had a threesome with Matrix & Fifth Element?
by James Robinson
Looking forward to seeing this.
-
also looks like it would have to be a 6 hour movie in order to make any real sense, if any.
-
this looks to be a good adaptation of it. The stories are nested like matrushka dolls. The characters all flow from one story to another in the sens of being the same soul, but some stories are different times, and some are fictional within the world of the other story. It is a beautiful book with action, plot, suspense, comedy and depth that I do not expect most of you to appreciate. Who knows how the movie turns out, but it looks pretty faithful to the book from that
-

Meh. I'm really quite tired of the "everything is connected" cliché.
by Royston Lodge
-
Since the Wachowski's are involved it looks to be going that route.
-
But it didn't really stay with me, I seem to remember thinking it would be hard to make into a movie because of how the narrative is structured. i.e. it doesn't lend itself to meet the expectations of a typical moviegoer. Be interesting to if they were brave enough to stick with the book closely or do the typical hollywood thing of trying to bend the material to fit.

-
...and the director of one of the worst movies ever Run Lola Run together on a ship called Cloud Atlas that's taking on water. What do you do? All torpedoes away!
-
For a while every trailer was "Kubrick-like". Now it seems everything is proclaimed "Malick-like". I share the sentiments of another poster. "Do you guys even watch movies?" You guys sound as dumb as Harry when he says "that's not Batman!"
-
She's just a person, and if you have problems with the decisions she's made about her own life, then you're an asshole. Cloud Atlas looks incredible. It's good to see there are artists out there still willing to take chances on risky material.
-
They once angered me but now I couldn't care less about them. Anyone who isn't extremely intrigued by that trailer just isn't compatibale with my tastes and can be totally ignored. That looked bloody great.
-
Haven't read the book, but I can say I'm definitely excited to see this film. Trailer looks gorgeous in HD and its from the Wachowski's - say what you will, they (and the talented folks they've worked with) are two key contributors to this era of visual FX & storytelling. Sure there were a few underwhelming features (although I've enjoyed all of their films to varying degrees), but add in Tykwer and this has the makings of greatness. To those who have read the book, does it make sense to start reading now, or go clean slate into the film?
-
Wow - that trailer was... well either the film CLOUD ATLAS is going to be awesome or awful. Nothing in between. I have questions... 1. Keith David on the cast list. Where was the awesome motherfucker in the trailer tho? 2. Did they show too much? I saw stuff like Halle getting car crashed and Tom Hanks rescuing a little girl - are these spoilers? 3. Tom Hanks in chainmail wooly poncho. Is this the future or the past? 4. Never even heard of the book but its a fine line between pretentious booshit and art. Which do we have here? 5. Sarandon. What the fuck you doing there bitch?
-
Seriously, you fuckers breed like rabbits. This movie looks incredible. I'm glad I waited for the HD version. In fact, the only negative is Halle. I am just not a fan, but I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt due to the rest of this looking so beautiful.

-
Can they hurry up and cast him on Game of Thrones? Given his talents as an actor, I think he'd be perfect for (incredibly minor spoiler alert) a certain kind old man from Braavos. You know he'd kill the scenes he has with "no one." And it's such a small role, time-wise, that it would work out great.
-
But I'm not entirely sure *italics*why*enditalics*.

Too bad too because it looks like it trying something we dont see often enough from big budget films, its taking a risk by doing something different and thats why I love the Wachowskis. I thought the trailer was moving. It gave me a sense of hope. Maybe Im reaching. I for one look forward to it. Its always good to see Hanks push the envelope a bit. Too much safe Hanks. Its also been awhile since Halle Berry had a movie I wanted to see. Stop the hate. Too much of that shit in the world already guys.

I did watch the whole trailer and it really pushed some buttons somehow. I will be buying a ticket on day 1 for this one, which I almost never do. Between Electric City and Cloud Atlas, Tom Hanks is back in my good graces after some of his recent choices. I mean I didn't actually hate Larry Crowne for example, but I can't recommend it at all. -
Nice trailer. Lots of imagery. Still haven't a clue what it is about.
-
...plays the leader of a tribe of post-apocalypse cannibal warriors in one of the stories! Can't wait!
-
But to be honest, at least for me, the book could never make the jump from feeling like a writing exercise to a full-fledged novel. Which makes me wonder if the film can make the jump from filmmaking exercise, to full-fledged movie.
-
Anyways, the movie is great... the spot does a good job of getting the mood of the film across, as it's not purely a comedy/drama/action/whatever. I doubt it'll do well, though, it's a bold film and it takes awhile to get a feel for everything. Also interesting to see all these big actors play different roles, sometimes in very heavy makeup. Anyways, hopefully it'll find an audience.

When she speaks she sounds like a guy putting on an effeminate inflection of what a woman is supposed to sound like. Movie looks decent too.

Those giving Lana crap need to shut the fuck up and keep said cruel thoughts to themselves. How does it feel to be stuck in time as the world progresses around you?
by RedJester
Also, this trailer has more human emotion in it than every movie the Wachowski's have ever done. Perhaps this is due to them working with Tom, or perhaps they've just grown as filmmakers significantly.
-
i LOVED the book, it's one of the most relevant stories of our time, and the movie looks AWESOME!
-
Count me interested.
-
The only positive thing that I took away from that trailer was the conspicuous absence of Jonah Hill.
-
...I find the root ideas of a film like this juvenile and pathetic. Who paid for it..? The Spiritualists..? Really, Hollywood, it's time you looked around you at the sad and sorry state of our existence NOW and made some commentary on the motherfuckers who play with our REAL lives day after day, and not some imaginary force. Oh, what's thatyou say..? They're the people bank-rolling you (and this shit). Oh, OK. I better shut the fuck up then. Hilarious trailer that takes itself way too seriously.

Can all the people who don't like this sit in a circle and felch each other for the next 5 years?
by melonman
Has the potential to be brilliant or SOUTHLAND TALES 2. But unlike a hell of a lot of movies it genuinely has ambition.
-
Looks like a compendium of short stories flowing together so lots of variety. Film will be good in interest value first up just to take in different narrative mesh, then if works as a whole film, sure it will have decent re-watch depth value as do ta Matrixs n SpeedR. A more un-leashed type fantasy film version of the T.V. show Quatum Leap except with more quatum leapers, looks like good Genre Stuff. But not till next year i think till here so BAH!
-
That is all.
-
I am usually all for criticizing footage/posters/whatever for an upcoming film and defend those who do so from their attackers. That said, accusing a movie you haven't seen based on a book you haven't read of being "style over substance" based on a preview is one of the most profoundly stupid statements on a site that has seen a lot of them. You're entitled to be wrong when you're speculating on new material, but how are you going to to tell people who know otherwise what a story is actually about when *you* don't even know what it's supposedly about?
-
Definitely. I mean, I love pretty much everything Tom Tykwer has ever directed, and The Wachowskis, despite a few hiccups along the way, always bring a kickass visual style and storytelling chops. I had no idea this movie was happening so I'll be excited to see it.

...Troll A. You are getting the attention you pathologically need; hope it makes you...whatever. You can't be happy, what with being a pathetic schlub and all. If you weren't such a waste of space, you'd know that Lana still "has a penis" since the procedure essentially turns it outside in to create a vagina. That's oversimplying, but you probably can't follow anything too complicated. No one would ever opt for gender reassignment unless it was vital to their well-being. I've counseled and interacted with several folks who were at various stages of the process, so I have some perspective. ( yeah, big word...look it up ) Quit talking out of your ass, Troll A.
-
People giving Lana shit for her sex change... like, why the fuck do you care? I'm an American, and I believe as long as someone isn't hurting another, they have the right to do whatever the fuck they want. She earned her money, made her decision. I'm sure all you guys are bastions of "normal" and "manliness." Seriously, what the fuck happened? I thought this was supposed to be a geek site, not fucking high-school meets Glenn Beck. I seriously would not be surprised if Mr. Coward James Holmes was once a talkbacker at AICN.

Complete with Oscar bait, Agent Smith, Fifth Element... they got the formula now, guys! The Key to Hollywood! Option an overbuzzed "postmodern" novel, do it as a massive genre mash-up that brings in multiple demographics, makes mall dwellers think they're "smart" AND "cool" when they figure it all out, and wrap it all up in a nice Christmas box full of money. This is so crazy it just might work.

How about this: try having a complete thought, then write it into the "comment" part of the Talkback form. Oh, and "Trannyformers 4"... um, yeah. Not funny, really, and actually pretty stupid and obvious when you think about it. And ignorant. And intolerant. I'd encourage you to think before you post.

i spent a hour trying to find it online to download it... theres a bunch that ends abruptly at the 3 minute mark finally i prevailed and found the full song and have been listenin to it like crazy

That's not a good sign. I'm familiar with the book... I just don't see this film doing big business. Maybe, Shirley Maclaine should have acted in the film? She would have been splendid at pimping out the whole reincarnation angle.

"What The Bleep Does The Tree Of Life Know About The Fountain" sums it up perfectly
by Hardboiled Wonderland
I still think Cloud Atlas looks freaking amazing and I will definitely see it. But as others pointed out, it'll either be a masterpiece or a complete pile of shit. I'm personally more excited for Ang Lee's Life Of Pi. Maybe the Wachwoski's can direct the sequel, Life Of Pie: Diaries of a Hungry Transexual. When I reincarnate, I want to come back as a transgender film producer.
-
The trailer looks good. Both emotional and philosophical, and let's hope that the Wachowski's have learned from their mistakes in Matrix R&R. That is, forget that you're telling a story in film, instead of having moving pictures that might or might not convey some sort of philosophical point. But, from the looks of it, I like it. Looks quite hard on the Sci-Fi side, but it looks daring, visually interesting en emotionally captivating. If this works commercially we might get to see more 'daring' films. Inception paved the way and proved that audiences don't mind to think if it's a cool story (and don't bloody start hating on Inception -- it was one of the most awesome summerfilms that we've seen in the last couple of years) and let's hope this will pave the way for more ambitious films. The audience just has to show it doesn't mind to think. Nothing wrong with titties and beer, but ain't nothing wrong with deciding our place in the universe neither, yo.

Hollywood/Wachowskis are desperate: 6-7 movies for the price of one
by Jared Bond
And they are all STUNNING!!!! I don't want to seem too down on this-- it is really daring and ambitious. But will it mean anything to audiences besides eye-candy and lots of stars? Also, it's nice to see Asians speaking English in dramatic roles. Really though, I just would have been happy with a proper continuance of The Matrix. It's like they wanted to wrap things up so soon. There are so many more interesting stories and questions that could have been raised using that premise. There was enough potential material for a damn TV show! Why do things always have to be "TRILOGIES"? I think 4 or 5 movies would have been cool. I mean, there's a lot to be told in waking up the whole damn world and resolving the issues with the machines. A note to artists: When you make something that makes it really big, don't start thinking that you're the king of the world and nothing you do can be wrong. Get help and other opinions. /rant

I couldn't give less of a shit about the Wachovska-whatevers (they made one good movie), but this is a great trailer, and Twyker is a great director. He has yet to make a great English language film, but the guy has an amazing eye. This looks like "Magnolia" meets "Synedoche New York", and since those two films make my soul excited - high hopes indeed...

Loved Run Lola Run, it was exactly what cinema needed in the late 1990s

Heaven was very underrated too. Adapting Mitchell's Cloud Atlas novel is the way to go for Tykwer, especially if the Wachowski's bring their original Matrix A-game to the party.

...so - a) My first post- The "first draft" title being What The Bleep Does The Tree Of Life Know About The Fountain was my take on what I got from the trailer.A mix of popular new age films/docs that present ideas on Quantum Mechanics/String Theory/Parallel Universe/lives etc and even though it seems familiar territory (to me any way) that I'm down to check it out because it's not a remake-hash/boot of Robocop/Total Recall/Footloose/Red Dawn whatever...Neo/Architect cameos was just me hinting at The Wachowskis Matrix series having themes of gnostic theologies mixed with new age stuff since they are creators on this Cloud Atlas movie. What The Bleep Do We Know-documentary/film The Fountain-film The Tree Of Life-film b)My second post was in reference to the French electro-rock band M83's song being used in the trailer. They are pretty good.I recommend Saturdays=Youth album as a starter if you are not familiar with M83. c) My third post was in reference to jackofhearts29 post on how Hollywood has the new formula for the moviegoing / mall dwelling plebeians to get movie millions AND make them feel important/enlightened in regards to the movies possible themes...but most likely would rather watch a Transformers 4 flick because it's easy for the plebs to digest. The Trannyformers was just a low brow take on what AICN talk backers have referred to Bays robot films as and that Larry is transgender. Also Wierzbowski from Aliens instead of Wachowski. My comments were just a mash up (kind of like this movie looks to be) and was meant in no way to enlighten or offend. But hey at least one talk backer (hardboiled wonderland) got my "first draft" reference. He even agreed. So that's all.Oh by the way one of my Aunts(uncle?) is transgender and I worked at a bar in West Hollywood out here in L.A. for 5 years so I'm pretty familiar and tolerant of alternative lifestyles.Just making jokes and humor is subjective so I understand your point of view from an internet talkback.
-
I have no idea if this will be good or not, but the trailer looks really cool to me. And if it's not your cup of tea, fine, but does it really deserve your angry bitter wrath? It seems that most of you don't even like movies anymore, outside the narrow confines of your Marvel or monster universe. Most of you will scream for some virtually unknown "Ant-Man" but shit all over everything else that comes out. Enjoy watching Thor a million times. I'm going to see a few other movies.
-
I'm going to go watch Thor for the eightybuzillionth time. Possibly jerk off on one of my Godzilla toys. Thanks for the reminder executor. You really saved my ass there. p.s. Kieth David.
-
Did not know...but thats cool. I think a good percentage of people on earth have thoughts about being the opposite sex to varying degrees, but are too afraid to explore it because society is still very homophobic and primative.
-
but rather, she went the full route.
-
is probably what this movie is gonna turn out to be
-
You made my morning. And it has been a very, very dark morning. It is nice to have something beautiful to look forward to.
-
The Wachowskis haven't made a good film since 'The Matrix'. This trailer looks like everything else they've become known for. Long stretches of ridiculous dialogue filled in with special effects to make the film seem more interesting then it really is. I'll reserve my final judgement till I see the film (and I hope I'm wrong) but until then, I'm approaching this with upmost caution.
-
Yeah maybe nothing else they have done has worked completely but they did hit one out of the park.
-

Refusing to see a movie based on the director's sexual orientation...

co-director Tom T's INTERNATIONAL (the OTHER QoS, the one Sony held back) had better architecture than this ... but then again that was REAL architecture. Still, this looks impressive visually, though the Berry is usually a pretty strong 'miss this' warning sign.

style over substance IS DOABLE in a six minute trailer
by UndisputedVipers
If you spend 6 minutes using broad themes and spitting out single words in between overly emotive goodbyes and embraces while using a pretentious song, you can definitely do style over substance in a trailer. The Wachowski's original Matrix was good, but became overrated because it was the movie of the MOMENT. The .com burst was happening, and this was the cyberpunk/mystery/sci-fi/action/supernatural film noir that would become associated with it. The filter lens, special effects, and music were all of the moment. Maybe The Matrix would be more of a classic if the sequels had delivered on its promise of a magical Zion, intriguing philosophy and an epic war (not fought with Gumby Neo). The preview for Cloud Atlas uses six minutes to try to convince us that everything is connected, but I felt more depressed and disinterested than I did wowed. I understand there's nothing new under the sun, but I sometimes wish people would stop making sci-fi and fantasy where man-woman love is at the center. I don't know. I just don't find it that profound. While I think the point of existence is to glorify a Triune God (through repentance, confession (NOT to priests), praise and obedience), I don't mind and sometimes LOVE signing up for a humanistic, Buddhist, atheist, or agnostic sci-fi/fantasy film...I just find them weakened when the main arc is a human love story. People have made a lot of comparisons in the Talkback to other movies. It reminds me more of the new Dunst movie Upside Down and What Dreams May Come, neither of which I have any interest in. Don't get me wrong. A great romance can be the foundation of a good sci-fi film. You could argue it was the thrust of Source Code (though, without giving spoilers, the movie is far more complex than that) and I loved that movie even more than I loved Inception. I guess I'm more interested in the conflict between good and evil, and I didn't see any specific villains in this trailer other than a slave master.
-
We only have to wait until October, I'm down.
-
Except for that slave guy... Black folk won't watch this flki, unless we see some blck people!
-
He has yet to disappoint me so I am excited to see this. 9000rpm, you are a fucking idiot. No way in hell is Run Lola Run one of the worst movies ever made. You may not enjoy it, but to call it one of the worst is just idiotic. Example, I do not like Gone with the Wind, but as a film lover I know its one of the greatest films ever made.
-
I cannot wait for this, Fountain was fantastic (and highly recommended if you have not seen it yet).

by Emperor
I am leaning toward complete disaster...

People who get sex reassignment don't just make that decision because it sounds like fun...it's not buying a new car. One must undergo intense phychotherapy and live as the opposite sex everyday for a full year before a doctor can warrent such a surgery, so as to make sure that one doesn't regret that decision. And from what I hear it's quite painful, so why put yourself through those extremes if it's not 100% what you wants to do?
-
This thing better be 10 hours long because I don't see how all that disparate crap is going to hang together into a coherent narrative. This looks to be a monument to pretension that puts Aronofsky to shame. Still, it's good to see Tom Tywker working. I haven't seen him do anything since The International, which was forgettable potboiler trash. And why do they keep Halle Berry work? She sucks.

and fanciful notions of life and origins on scales shooting far past what would be conservatively titled ridiculous that they ought to just come out of the closet and admit they're some of the most superstitious gullible bunch of oblivious suckers on this planet in our lonely universe. A bit like holy fuck it's as good as can be. A bit like bloated and no fuckin way batman would do that for dogface. A bit bloated. An absolute must see 70 mil IMAX. Now
by UltraTron
Harry you gotta remember can't see movies in IMAX because he doesn't live near a real 70 mil IMAX theater and probably reviewed the movie at the drafthouse which has sound with a certain character that is neat but hardly reference quality. In reference quality IMAX this mutherfucker sounds like no other Muther Fucking movie ever made. The drums sounded like an army of Asian ninja thong drummers juiced on bane venom. Go see this fucker if you've ever read a batman comic. Scene of him with the mask off armored up in the batcave made me jizz all over my popcorn. Scenes had chills running up and down and I jizzed in several people's popcorn. I know for a fact that I jizzed in Harry's popcorn- that's how far it shot and I think I already established how far Harry lives from an IMAX theater. So Bane is the BEST fucking batman villain yet and don't believe me imagine ledger walking out in front of him and he's the heavy. Man he sounds better than anyone since Skeletor mutherfuckers. Think about this shit. Ultimate batman fight of the century 70 mil IMAX fuck yeah! Batman a fucking moron who should shoot a mutherfucker with a nuke cuz too much at stake to be picky- no question. Go see it and wish it sounded and looked like it should if it ain't IMAX and wish you could actually enjoy how visceral it is. Or be lucky enough to see all proper angel trombones. It was like being at a football stadium if you sit close. Batman yadda yadda. Bring on the next one. Oh is that Mr. Freeze on the ice? I didn't catch his name I thought it was gonna be riddler or penguin but the ice..
